  1. Time to officially introduce myself after a couple of posts. I've just purchased KM11EFO from Lexus Coventry. As most of you will know, it used to belong to MarkG. I considered all the usual candidates, C63, M3 etc but looking at the forums with all the trouble they seem to have, the IFS seemed the best choice. With a years warranty, and the option of a further 2, it was a no brainer. The 'fuel economy' and insurance cost was also a consideration, after driving a Prius as a taxi for many years. I'm retired now and wanted some fun. Driving home from Coventry I managed 28.6 mpg. Driving down to Devon 29.6, and returning, with a bit of 'playing', 30.6 mpg. Well pleased. I'm obviously not trying hard enough!!!! Insurance. Seems being an old git pays dividends. Saga, fully comp, 13 years NCD, £239.27. ( I did check this many times) Yep £2.11p more than my Prius!!!!!! which I'm keeping as a town runaround. Well Mark, thanks for looking after it, be assured it's gone to a good home to be cherished.

  2. Lexus has announced a safety recall of certain 2006-2013 models equipped with the 3.5L 2GR-FSE V6 engine — here’s a breakdown of the vehicles affected: • 2006-2013 IS 350 • 2010-2014 IS 350C • 2007-2011 GS 350 • 2007-2011 GS 450h The issue revolves around the diaphragm material in the fuel pulsation dampers of the engine. These components may harden and crack over time, causing fuel to leak and increasing the risk of a vehicle fire Reference; https://lexusenthusiast.com/2018/06/26/certain-2006-2014-lexus-models-recalled-over-v6-engine-issue/ http://pressroom.toyota.com/releases/lexus+is+conducting+a+safety+recall+involving+certain+lexus+is+and+gs+vehicles.htm

  3. You can also fill up with petrol at your local station and just drive off without paying - saves a fortune if you don't mind being a thief or committing fraud and tax evasion.

  4. The GS 450h had 4 trim levels. Base, SE, SE-L and Sport, SE-L being the top spec. The spec sheets below apply to the 2008 facelift model. The equipment levels on each trim level were downgraded slightly compared to the 2006 and 2007 model year cars but they still remain well equipped. A few examples are the rear lip spoiler and cooled (ventilated) seats feature are standard fitment on the original SE spec but were deleted from the facelift model, and on SE-L spec the PCS/ACC and electric sunroof were fitted as standard on the '06 and '07 cars but became an optional extra on the facelift model. You can tell a facelift model as the side indicators were moved from the wings and into the side mirrors. There are a few recent threads on this forum about what to look for when buying a 450h so have a read through them and good luck with your search.

  5. Hi Den the GS450H is a brilliant piece of engineering. However it does have a few weak spots. When buying check the following: Seized calipers - expecially rear ones. Rusted exhaust back boxes. Leaking Shock Absorbers - Lexus is the only supplier for replacements. Creaking dash. Alloys needing a refubish - this can be slightly tricky as you have to remove the chrome plastic inserts which can break and newones are only available from Lexus. Headlight bulb flickering or going out after a while - Remedy is to swap the bulbs over or replace them. Rust on the leading edge of the bonnet. Faulty TPMS Valves At higher mileages there is a risk of Gearbox oil pump packing - this can be a cheap fix if you follow the advice on this forum - Lexus will sell you a new gearbox HYBRID BATTERY: A health check is available from Lexus for vehicles under 10 years and 140k miles - this guarantees the Hybrid Battery for 12 Months. If you can't get the health check and have battery problems: it is normally 1 or 2 cells which are low - these can be replaced and the battery reconditioned for around £800. A member on here Richard is recommended. Hope this helps

  6. Welcome Paul, as I have already said, great to see the car in the hands of a petrol head. I bet the Ro80 ownership was interesting to say the least................ A few words of caution, there are members on here that will try and bring you over to the dark side, enticing you with words like "Silver" and "Carbon", they will hypnotise you with arguments about Unleaded and Super Unleaded fuels..........................and if all this fails they will ply you with Coffee and Cake, you must stay away from these people who go by the names of @Flytvr and @Big Rat and their cohorts. No doubt they will emerge soon.............................

  8. Hi there :) I've decided to make a topic so you guys can see the changes I'll be making and updating to my mk4 LS400 over the coming months. I haven't done much and because it's such a good example I don't plan on going totally crazy on it like I first envisioned. I mainly post from my mobile so each new set of pictures will probably be a new post to this thread in itself. If you have any suggestions then please be my guest :) Thanks for reading and here's a few pictures of the day I first got it. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

  10. I was under the impression that a 3rd gen GS would offer similar or even better spec than my 5 series, which was produced between 2007-2009. I have seen reviews and read on forums + the option list shown above for the SE-L is somewhat impressive. Not only that, the GS450h is mighty fast and very economical for its size. My car get 0-60 in 8.2 and returns 50mpg. I can live with 30-40mpg and a low 5 sec 0-60 lol. For example, my 5 series doesn't have ventilated air cooled seats, nor are the seats as comfy as on the GS; my car doesn't have a sunroof, no dual zone climate control, no memory seats, it's not an automatic (believe me, my left leg is as big as Arnold's, considering the traffic I get stuck at on M25 and M1); also, if you've not sat in an M Sport then believe me, I feel every single stone and uneven road, which is amazing on A roads and B roads. But I'm tired of it. I want a bit of class now. I want to relax and feel comfortable. I'm most definitely intending to avoid diesel cars because of constant issues, such as DPF and EGR, oil leaks (N47 engine is notorious for this), turbo faults (on my third turbo now), etc. I don't think I can currently afford a 4th gen GS. 11. You should select courier rather than post. You pay all the taxes and import up front which will probably work out cheaper and you will get the part in a couple of days.

  12. Since I rarely use the cupholders in the RC other than as occasional receptacles for small objects, I have for some time been looking for decent-looking flush-fitting covers, and finally, at a flea-market in Denmark, I came across the ones in the attached photo. As they normally retail for about €20 each (though available online for much less) I happily paid the equivalent of €4 the pair, brand new. They are made of thick-gauge stainless steel lined with rubber, fit perfectly and don’t rattle, and are part of a range of wine accessories called Grand Cru by Rosendahl, where they serve as optional lids for a water-carafe.

  14. Forget Apple! I repair computers for a living and can say that yes, Apple make some technically excellent stuff - but you are tied into their eco-system and you must do things Apple's way, or not at all. Quick example - I use an app called WiFi Analyzer on Android and it's great. When I had an iPhone for a couple of months I tried to get it from the Apple App Store and I couldn't. After a couple of indignant emails to Apple head office, their official answer was that they considered the app to be "too dangerous" for the general public to have and/or use, so they would not allow it - and yet it's freely available to anyone in the world on Android. I'm not sure if that's still the case as this was quite a while ago, but these are the things that you have to put up with when you buy into Apple. Go for an Android tablet and if anything goes wrong you can get it repaired at almost any shop or market stall that repairs mobile phones; go for an Apple and you must go to an official Apple shop and get ripped off price-wise. OK, some places do repair them but Apple only ever supply spares to Apple shops, so you know straight away that any repair done anywhere else is not using genuine Apple parts. There were a few cases not long ago where an Apple update stopped any tablet/phone/iPod from working if it detected unauthorised parts. And don't even get me started on their iStupid iNaming iOf iDevices

  15. I have just called into Lexus Bolton and asked about this. They said it comes under customised settings. They are doing it this Friday for free. They said it will take 30 mins including washing the car for me. Superb service imho.

  16. The CR2450 PCN2 would suit the TPMS modules the best for fitting purposes. Some companies do a tagging service (fitting tags to standard cells) if you ask. Those batteries are a little expensive "but still cheep compared with new TPMS units" as I paid less than that for 5 batteries. If you scroll down to the bottom of your link they do a product called wire glue. This would enable you to fit tags to your own batteries or "glue" the original tags to new batteries bought at a cheaper price, and readily available from other suppliers, and no soldering would be required. John.

  17. There are certainly sensors fitted to the car but they do not work at present. I'll try the toggle switch in the down position and see if that works. Many thanks for the replies - new LED number plate and reversing lights ordered along with a set of trim remover tools.

  18. You could be right. When I was looking round for an RX I did come across one with the front sensors and the switch was in that area. I've had some for a while but it makes no odds for the terminally cack-handed I'd still break it.

  20. MOT testers always amazed that my 18 year old LS looks pretty solid and no leaks. But I always worry they will pick up on something. The thing to remember is the Japanese MOT is so strict, that any car made for (and in) Japan is going to be a darn sight more robust than your average detroit dustbin, or euro-box. Just got back from Crete, I assume the Greek MOT standard is 'Does the car have a wheel in each corner, if answer YES, then Pass MOT'☠️

  33. I had a second generation (2010) IS 250 Premier with ML for almost eight years. Since six months I am driving a new IS Premier with ML (manufactured in October 2017), and I also find that the audio quality is not quite as good as the previous generation. What is most obvious to me is that the sound appears to come more from the center, and not so much from the sides. I am guessing that the overall "cheapening" (my subjective experience) of the interior compared to the second generation left less money for good, solid speaker enclosures in the front doors. Still, the ML processing does quite a good job with room correction of frequency response etcetera within the given physical means of the speakers, so the sound is by no means bad. It's just that I found the previous generation to be slightly better. As for volume, I usually keep it between 10 and 25, with 10-15 being the appropriate level with the family in the car and some background music while still being able to have a conversation, and 15-25 when I am on my own and enjoying music. My sound source is usually an iPod nano.

  38. So today it was japfest down at the Silverstone circuit, saw a celsior mk3 but not one other ls400 or mk4. I suppose a mk3 does count as a ucf20 but it's still cool to have been the only mk4 LS400 there! ( I didn't see any mk1 or 2, but did see a couple of ls430's) I spent around 6 hours cleaning the car yesterday including clay barring, machine polishing and waxing, which removed a load of previous swirl marks which is a nice bonus Here's a few pics for you all Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

  42. I have also removed the old rear plate which was stuck on with god only knows What, it really didn't want to come off. With it off I can now see all the holes drilled for aftermarket things in the past and also holes to fit number plates, which have now very nicely rusted and starting to eat under the paint, so it's somewhere else that's going to need a makeover [emoji102] Can also see the led number plate lights in effect [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
