  1. I sort of digressed off topic with excitement of placing the order for my exhaust, as u well know @Big Rat it’s something that I’ve been toring with a couple of years, with the confusion I decided to opt for a company that haven’t made one for the F, hopefully it’ll turnout good as I’ve stated I don’t want “raspie” 😳......🤞🏻.......think it’ll bring another option into the fold.....”hopefully” 😉

  2. Having jumped ship from Mercedes 2 years ago I would be reluctant to return to the indifferent build quality and reliability of the newer Mercedes. Now in 1997 I very nearly bought a 6 months old C36 AMG - absolutely fell in love with it, but they wanted £42,000 for it and I would only go to £40,000. I ordered a new Audi A4 Quattro tiptronic estate ( bad move) and a week later the Mercedes dealer rang me offering to sell me the C36 at my price...…………….. I think that in those days the AMG cars were the real deal.

  8. Yes, Paul! I did see this clip earlier yesterday day. Sam sent to me the link 😜😜 I was telling him, if I would drive like this in a multi-storey car park with the Musa exhaust, valves open, the cops would be waiting for me by the time I get to the ground floor 🚔

  10. Evening all. Been taking a look at the various stopping points and some suitable eateries to save us having a gaggle/flock/herd of hungry F owners wandering about as lack-of-food-related anger sets in. Did a fair bit of Googling and Trip Advisering and the following look like some good options for the associated legs of the trip. These are just suggestions of course so feel free to do your own research and post any suggestions; Leg-1 Matlock - Late Breakfast Parking here will be on street as close as we can get to this place but it’ll just be a quick stop for tea and bacon rolls so we’ll pretty much be stood by the cars anyway. Matlock Cafe, 9 Bakewell Rd, Matlock DE4 3AU According to all accounts this gaff does the best bacon rolls in Matlock. Leg-2 Buxton - Lunch Loads of choice here. All the guides say to park by the Old Hall Hotel and walk back past the Crescent and Opera House then take your pick. We’ve got 90 minutes scheduled and we’ll obviously be eating here later on so, personally, I’ll be eating pretty light at lunch then a decent meal later on. A few good options are shown below; Cafe at the Green Pavillion, 4 Terrace Road, Buxton, SK17 6 DR No. 6 The Square, 6 The Square, Buxton, SK17 6AZ The Lone Star Cafe Bar, Old Court House, George Street, Buxton SK17 6AY Leg-3 Ladybower Inn - Refreshments By far the easiest choice...... we are already there. Leg-4 Buxton - Dinner (or “Tea” if you are a proper Northerner) Back in Buxton and the choices are far wider for the evenings entertainment. I’m not sure how many of us will be staying around here other than the overnighters but if any day trippers are planning a brief respite before heading on home then the Premier Inn, where the overnighters are staying, has a decent bar so we can chill for a while and finish off the day. Any wishing to join the overnighters for food can stay on. Let’s assess numbers on the day and those of you with phones that weren’t made in the late 17th century can take a look at TripAdvisor and pick a suitable gaff for us all to grace with our presence. Any comments or suggestions are always welcome. Really looking forward to this now!

  11. I have seriously considered the very same although the proper one, C63 amg but would have needed the estate for the dogs, I love the look and sound, not so much the costs, I decided against it and bought the dogs their own car, a very nice little Yaris 😉

  17. Some time ago, before i had my ISF, a good friend of mine very kindly lent me his CLS63, which was the 6.2 V8 and it was epic. The noise and the experience was fab and i looked at one seriously before i bought the ISF. I understood that the ownership costs were significantly higher than the Lexus which put me off but it was a lovely car.

  21. I had IS200t for whole Saturday, drove around East, South-East England - Motorways, fast A/B roads and some city traffic in London ~600miles, same for RC300h... as for BMW - I have it now for 4 days, drive daily to work, been to East cost during weekend, did 750miles so far and will keep it for another 2-3 weeks, because my 12years old IS250 is sadly a write-off for now. V6 or V8 has nothing to do with being blokish or antiquated - first of all what is important is whenever engine is NA or forced induction. I prefer wide and late power band of NA engine and I prefer sound and smoothness of the engine and lineal power delivery. This smoothness is what you want in Premium car - not jerky small volume turbo engine which is rarely on power, but kicks you in the head and brakes your neck when it gets there.

  22. Sorry it's not legal, stick on number plates never have been and just because it passed an MOT means nothing. Take a look at 6.3.A http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/561/part/II/made Although the chances of you getting pulled are slim, but if you came across an arsey copper then he could book you for it.

  23. Its not a trap they have fallen into, over the years i have come to the conclusion not to take any notice of magazine or TV programs concerning car reviews, they either don't take the car on its own merit or the journalist / TV presenter's have there preferred manufacturer. Other than looks the RC & RC-F are two different cars, insurance, fuel and running costs for a start, then ride comfort the RC is a lot more comfortable. But silly me, as per usual the RC is not fast enough, its 0-60 is to slow and it doesn't go round corners on two wheels so buy a RC-F, in fact don't bother , buy a Baguette Veyron you can pick up a cheep one for a Mill.

  25. IMHO "heritage" means nothing in context, is another term for "perception of brand" (simularcrum). And there is some kind of fallacy here: what if somebody brings totaly new premium brand without heritage (like lexus in late '80 - reason of very existence of Lexus was to cut any perception and mental connections to common toyotas in '80 US especially). I think second part (over and above) is most valid. And this is core issue - it is necessary and essentialy condition, but in public and personal PERCEPTION of norm and what is above norm, not in reality. And on later level of this game, people are stupid "pattern recognition" monkeys and they project this perception to other "similar" objects, like "merc CLA with tiny diesel is similar to premium mercedes car" 😐

  26. After reading your post I have been having a look at pictures of the RX400 front online ... have a look at them ... it looks like on others there is a trim around the bottom of the headlight similar to that which runs around the sides and top of it ... looks like its missing in your pics .. especially the second one which shows it up best.

  28. So why we are talking exhausts....... @DAW @Cezar B @Womble72 I make no apologies for posting this twice I put on the LC forum but Lexus filmed this in the car park next to Mrs Rats office in Cabot Circus Bristol a few days ago, they knew about it but she forget to tell me 🙄

  29. So you basically called my view outdated, just to rephrase my post and ultimately say the same thing? I know people who considers Golf as Luxury or Premium... so what? BTW I realised today what is wrong with IS200t gearbox - it is not gearbox problem at all, BMW320d does exactly the same thing (with it's 7 speed auto) - the problem is in tiny turbocharged engine which has narrow power band, meaning that you are never in the right gear to be on power and gearbox keeps trying to put-it in the right gear... but because power band is narrow, by the time gearbox sticks into say 4th, you already off the throttle and then by the time there is gap again in the traffic it already has it in 6th - never gets right.

  31. Well I can't say this was easy, but today I replaced the spark plugs on my RX450h. It took me about six hours, having watched a You Tube video on the subject, I could have done it quicker but was having a good clean up as I reassembled it. I think it would be a four hour job if you just got stuck in.

  32. i went straight to the 2 wires that go into the floor lighting remove the under panel below the glovebox and above the pedals, the panel on the passenger side is held in with a few clips the panel on the drivers side is held in place with 2 screws disconnect the plug from the light and you will see the 2 wires just tap into these. here is a video of the lights in the dark. these lights cost me £64 , £29 for the lights £32 for dhl posting (received in 4 days ) £3 import duty Lexus illuminated door sill.3gp

  36. Thanks mate. Apart from the dump valves, you honestly don’t really hear the supercharger. Makes the kill that much sweeter! Lol. Now when I upgrade to the new Rotrex that will support up to 900hp, I’m guessing that may be a little louder, but maybe not? I half expected something out of Mad Max, but it’s surprisingly quiet most of the time. You’ll see next month mate.

  40. The other advantage of NGenco is that it does a pretty good job of filling existing chips and can be colour coded. Important for those cars with a vanilla bonnet. Chances of finding an RCF with no chips will get less and less. What’s the average RCF mileage these days - 20.000?

  43. I've been looking at a set of coilovers for ages now. Just waiting on the right excuse to order them! Good to know they doesn't upset the ride too much. One thing I'd advise is to clabber the adjustment collars and threads in marine grease or something similar. It won't look pretty but it will protect them from the salt and water they will see over winter. I don't see a make in the pics, how do they stack up to BC and D2 brands?

  44. I've always taken "average mileage" to be 12,000/year but some folks these days say 10,000. Either way, that car is still below average mileage and will go on for many, many more miles yet. I'm not sure if that engine has a timing belt or timing chain but if it's a belt they should be replaced at 100,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. If it's not been done, maybe use that as a bargaining chip on price. I think you should also be able to get a hybrid health check done at any Lexus dealer for about £60. The car may be too old to get a hybrid warranty but at least a good health check result should put your mind at rest about the hybrid system at least. Other than that, just enjoy.

  45. Thanks for all the responses and good luck messages Update: @Malc the exhaust was heavily blowing round the cats and was advised this was non-repairable due to the amount of metal that had rusted away. the rest of the exhaust had really thin metal due to corrosion as well in some places hence why i went for the new system. @steve2006 the CO2 emission level was .64% on fast idle (max 0.3% for pass). servicing is fully up-to-date with all invoices. @black400 thanks for your suggestion of catclean - got 2 bottles and took it for a run, sadly no luck and it still failed the emissions - i think i know why now, hard to clean cats when you have no cats fitted!!! 😒 lamda sensors were also bringing up a fault code, changed those (£400!!), still failed the mot. sourced 2 new cats for £75 each (non genuine Lexus but come with a 2 year warranty - longer than 1 year Lexus warranty 🙂) but they did the job and car has passed MOT. Upon inspection of the lexus supplied cats, the mechanic stated they were missing the honeycomb centres. Further investigation by myself confirmed that the catalytic convertor parts originally supplied to me from Lexuswere in fact incorrect, this is shown on the original invoice. The part numbers supplied were 17550, when in fact the correct part numbers for the exhaust configuration with catalytic convertors should be 17400. So Lexus have ordered the incorrect exhaust system when I provided them with my vehicle registration. In fact the "cats" are showing up as "sub-mufflers" on the original invoice and they didn't even notice this when I raised the original complaint last month! @royoftherovers i've taken your advice and formally written to the dealer principal today (cc Lexus UK) explaining the above and requested a refund for all the fees incurred as a result of this issue (just over £1k). If I don't get the fees refunded I'll definitely be taking this further. I was thinking ombudsman and then small claims in that order. what a palaver! Will keep you all posted. thanks again.

  47. Actually, once I hired a car Full size luxury saloon which meant to be "C-class or 3-Series equivalent" and when I arrived to Portugal they game me Alfa-Romeo 156 Estate... I am like "what the hell is that" and they looking surprised "yes we consider Alfa as premium"... I am like "for***** sake - so what if I go to Russia - they will give me Lada because they consider it 'Premium' or in India maybe they will give me a 'donkey'..." after a bit of discussion they would not budge and in the middle of the night in the airport I didn't have much leverage - either to take car or walk away. So partially to answer your question - I do not consider Alfa as premium, nor I guess most of Britain, but it could be argued that is "premium Italian" as Citroen is "premium french" . @st4Good point about reputation, maybe reliability affects brand reputation, but not how premium it is? Now think about very public Lexus airbag issue (which wasn't even Lexus fault at all) - imagine how that looks and sounds to average Joe and what brand image it creates - "those Lexus with exploding airbags" - people don't do research, don't do fact check are ignorant and I am certain most would still answer that Mercedes is one of the most reliable cars or that German cars are reliable even though it is factually incorect.. More reliable then French and Italian - yeah perhaps... In short - what you think are facts.. is not necessary common knowledge and what makes car premium is Public perception which will always be ill-informed in reality.
    1 point
  48. I don’t agree. A premium car should be A) more reliable B) last longer and have a longer service life. One of my gripes with the Mercedes I’ve owned is how poorly made the car was - from rusting at 4.5 years old, to off rattles, to injectors and manifolds needing changed at little over 5 years old and leaking steering racks and random engine faults. Yes the cars were “nice” but they were also **** **** that shattered the illusion you owned a premium product that was worth paying a premium for. If a car is worth a premium it is because it’s appeal lasts beyond having the latest reg and that it’ll give its owner faithful service long after the new car buzz has worn off. A car is no good if it’s unreliable - and nothing takes the sheen off a car than seeing it rust when it’s new and watching it disappear onto a low loader as it’s failed to proceed. Toyota reliability should be a given in any upmarket car, not a USP - which it appears to be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
