  3. This was buried midway through one of the recently moved posts so just keeping it prominent as the event approaches. Subject to slight change now we are getting breakfast laid on courtesy of Lexus Derby. F-up The Peaks & Dales Finalised route plan Here is the near enough finalised route that takes in the best of the area and avoids too much civilization and/or roadworks. I’ll do a condensed printout of this for everyone on the day so we’ve all got something to follow if anybody ends up getting separated. I’ve listed all the main locations and route planner below, broken down into the 4 ‘Legs’ of the journey. For reference a “(T)” means we go Through the place and a “(P)” means we go Past the place (genius!). As before, the route will definitely start at Lexus Derby on Saturday the 29th September (for both day trippers and overnighters) and will continue on Sunday the 30th September (for overnighters only) with the second day being an open agenda. On day two we can take in the best of the previous day, a load of new locations, go sightseeing, do any combination of the above or do as you wish! The starting point address is as follows; Lexus Derby – Orient Way, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8BY – 01332 426 185 - This is on the North side of Derby but easily accessible via the M1 - A52 – it’s almost right on the A6, easy access for the first leg of the journey. We’ll meet there any time from 09:00 onwards on Saturday the 29th with a view to leaving as close as possible to 10:00 or 10:30 at the latest. MAKE SURE YOUR TANK IS FULL WHEN YOU ARRIVE! – THIS WILL SAVE US A HUGE AMOUT OF TIME Leg-1 – Lexus Derby to Matlock – roughly 25 miles taking about 45-60 minutes – ETA about 11:30 assuming a 10:30 departure from Lexus Derby Lexus Derby - Start Duffield (T) Milford (T) Belper (T) Ambergate (T) Whatstandwell (T) Cromford (T) Matlock Bath (T) Matlock – Stop As previously advised, when you get into Matlock it feels like you are driving past everything and heading out of the village but it's a big one way system and the main access point to the village is on the North Side. Although quite early into the day I reckon we could easily stop at Matlock for half an hour for Bacon rolls and coffees and/or a toilet break or just blast on through to Buxton. We'll assess what people want to do on the day and take it from there. For Leg-2, from Matlock, we’ll head on up the A6 towards Bakewell and onto Buxton as outlined below; Leg-2 – Matlock to Buxton – roughly 25 miles taking about 45-60 minutes – ETA about 13:00 assuming a 12:00 departure from Matlock Matlock – Start Darley Dale (T) Rowsley (T) Bakewell (T) Ashford in the Water (P) Brushfield (P) Taddington (P) Blackwell (P) King Sterndale (P) Buxton - Stop The route past Ashford in the Water has a good stretch of pretty open dual carriageway so you can stretch the legs on your beloved vehicles. We follow the A6 all the way from Matlock to Buxton so I doubt anyone will get lost on this stretch (famous last words). We should arrive in Buxton at about 13:00. We’ll take a stop here for lunch so please do your bit here and take a look at Tripadvisor etc for any places you’d like to try (this research will also come in handy later on as you’ll see). At a very quick glance the Green Pavillion café and the Royal Oak Tavern both get good reviews. Again we can decide on the day where we go but let’s assume an hour and a half to stop here to fill up and buy Bakewell Tarts etc. For Leg-3 from Buxton we’ll leave via the A6 again taking the route outlined below. This takes in some amazing scenery in the early part up to Hathersage then some good fast winding A-Roads, again through some pretty spectacular countryside between Hathersage and Ringinglow. No speed cameras along here either!! It looks like a lot of locations below but rest assured it’s roughly the same length as the first two legs. Leg-3 – Buxton to the Ladybower Inn – roughly 30 miles taking about 60 minutes – ETA about 15:30 assuming a 14:30 departure from Buxton Buxton – Start Fairfield (T) Dove Holes (T) Then following the A6 towards Chapel-En-Le-Frith (P) before taking the A623 towards…. Sparrow Pit (T) Then heading Towards Castleton past Speedwell Cavern (P) Peak Cavern (P) Winnats Pass – We’ll drive down this, great scenery! Castelton (T) Hope (T) Hathersage (T) Hathersage Booths (T) Ringinglow (T) Left at the Norfolk Arms (P) past Mayfield Alpacas (no joke) along Fullwood Ln, Andwell Ln, Douse Croft Ln, Gore Ln, Harrison Ln, Blackburn Rd and Lodge Ln to….. Rivelin (T) then West (left turn) onto the A57 (Snake Pass) towards Manchester Ladybower Inn - Stop It'll take us about an hour to do the route above from Buxton so we'll arrive at Ladybower Inn, overlooking Ladybower Reservoir, at about 15:30. We should all be in convoy but if you hit the traffic lights at the corner of the reservoir you’ve gone slightly too far!The Inn is about 100 metres back up the road you’ve just come down. You’ll easily spot The Inn on the right as the car park (on the left) will be full of F-Cars! Asbo Dave™ and I stopped here for lunch and it’s a perfect place for refreshments and toilet break before the last leg of the journey. Let’s take 45 minutes to an hour here before we head off. For Leg-4, the final Leg before the overnight, we’ll be following the route below along the A57 (Snake Pass). After the recon mission yesterday I can confirm that whilst there are a few rougher sections on here, they all look recently filled and nothing to worry about. 90% of it is a good 8-9 out of 10 with even the roughest bits being a solid 7. Fear not Sean! Leg-4 – Ladybower Inn to Buxton (via the Snake Pass and Glossop) – roughly 40 miles taking about 60 minutes – ETA at Buxton about 17:30 assuming a 16:30 departure from Ladybower Inn Ladybower Inn – Start All the way along the A57 towards Glossop Glossop (T) Left Turn at the Train station junction towards…. Charlestown (T) Chunal (T) Little Hayfield (T) Hayfield (T) Chinley Head (T) New Smithy (T) Chapel Milton (T) Chapel-En-Le-Frith (P) before taking the A624 onto the A6 towards…. Doveholes (T) Fairfield (T) Buxton – Stop So, we’ll end up right back in the heart of rural Derbyshire where we had lunch.

  12. Yes - stick to the proper Toyota Type-IV. The fluid has various friction modifiers and other properties and the seals within the system are engineered to cope with that particular chemical makeup. It's not worth trying to save a few quid now and then possibly have a major tranny failure later. When we bought our 2005 RX300 it had 79k miles on it and, as with every secondhand car I've ever bought, I changed all fluids as a matter of course. I intended to drop the pan from the transmission to install a new ATF strainer/filter so bought that as well as the gaskets etc. I think the strainer and gasket set were about £80 if I remember right and I bought two 5L tubs of Toyota Type-IV ATF for £75.60 from my local Toyota main dealer (nearest Lexus dealer is about 30 miles away).

  14. I’ve not posted on here myself for ages either. My F is now ten years old and 86,000 miles on the clock. It remains a fabulous car. I was staring at the white F and a bloke at a bus stop said “that’s a nice noise”. Don’t think he expected me to know what it was or how it made the noise! rare things on the road as we know....

  17. Little bit more done, progress is slow at the moment but still plugging away at it. Had some new parts come thanks to H-tune and titan motorsports. Nice adjustable exhaust cam gear, the ATI titan v2 crank damper and a gates kevlar cam belt. Just need to order a new alternator belt and start sorting the finer details out.

  18. As an ex owner of a BMW straight six turbo I'd agree it's a lovely engine. However peruse the forums and you'll find numerous reliability issues and the reason I sold it . I'm not sure that will fit in with Toyotas ethos so it surprises me somewhat.

Hey guys, seems obvious to me that the standard headers are pretty crappy, after looking at what the options are in the States and the prices, plus shipping, plus duty etc, they seem pretty spendy. So, I am looking at getting some made over here and the more people that are interested, the better prices we can obtain. be rest assured that they will not be cheapo crap, I work as a buyer for a British car manufacturer so have lots of contacts. Who might be interested?

  20. 1999 Saab 9-3 2.0i S Auto Convertible. Slow but uncomplicated. It's a birthday present to myself (50 in October) and will be (I hope) a high days and holidays car. Looks pretty good in the photos but obviously you never know until you see in the flesh. Cheap as chips so if it all goes Pete Tong I don't get too badly burned. No service history other than the last one but MOT history looks good, spoke to the testing station and they said there was nothing to really worry about and they did the last service too. And totally unrelated to the selling dealer which I always find reassuring. £140 for 6 months tax and £170 for classic insurance. If anyone is wondering why I'd choose something like that for a mid-life crisis car, I have a 5yo 7yo and 10yo. Anything smaller or with less seats and it would never get used! Anyone want to chip in with Saab related tales of woe? Bearing in mind I spent most of last light looking up hood faults.

  24. I'm not sure if it has ACC and PCS, but if it does then it is fully spec'd, so at the price and mileage i'd say it's an OK price, particularly as you can probably knock them down a bit. Obviously there seems to be some rumours which i'm not privy to, so i'd say it's like all cars buy on condition. # I like the colour combination of the stone interior and red paint.

  29. When I read "taking the carpets out", I thought of the little 2 sq foot thing in our Micra, that's under driver's foot! Not half a car! Intense stuff! Saw an SC briefly the other day, here in Bristol/Shirehampton.....revived my interest (just after swearing NEVER to drive long distances again!)

  33. I had a coolant leak on my BMW E60 & it turned out to be a small leak where the pipe goes into the engine (rubber grommet) so don't panic yet. Sidelight bulb is on a stick & visible once you removed the engine covers you just twist it & pull it out, main beam is easy too there are many guides on Youtube:

  40. Just a small point, my GS Exec Edition does not have either of these, so it is not standard across the GS range. In fact, it looks like the only trim level that has lost them on the ES is the F-Sport. Also, it's not unheard of for a brand new model to have a lower specification than the model it replaces as manufacturers will often spec up the last versions of old models to help them sell.

They're not lying about the fluid lasting the lifetime of the car, when that fluid's burnt up the car's done :D I'd say 50k miles or so and don't use anything but the original specified fluid and a Toyota filter if the filter is replaceable. Toyotec did mine earlier in the year for a total of about £300. They showed me a jug full of the old liquid - it was dark brown and clearly used up.

  45. Pleased to hear your problem is now fixed. I feel it is somewhat of rip off that Lexus do not supply some of the smaller component parts costing perhaps a few pounds for there cars, and instead only sell complete assemblies costing many hundred sometimes thousands of pounds. The list may be added to, but here is some items I know of. Ride height and headlamp adjuster links that snap due to seized ball joints. You have to buy the complete sensor costing £150 upwards. Reluctor rings. You have to buy complete drive shafts at many hundred pounds. Gearbox oil pump bearings "less than £10". you have to buy a complete pump at an eye watering £2500. Traction battery replacement modules. You have to buy a complete battery. Again circa £2000 plus. LED rear light units sealed so you cannot replace faulty LED's. I had a Prius where all the other lights were bulbs, and could be changed except the stop lamp. Cost £186. Ok not strictly Lexus, but the same stable Toyota. I know to some degree all manufactures do this, but that in it's self does not make it right. John.

  46. I had my local indie garage who are also Lexus enthusiasts change the atf fluid in my 2005 GS300 last Saturday. I did a bit of research beforehand and the general opinion was to use genuine Toyota fluid which i bought from Ebay. They could only get just under a litre back in but then started the car and went through all the gear options drive, reverse, neutral and then checked the levels again but it only took the total fill to just over a litre although the book says 1.5l. It has been running fine ever since and the gear change seems smoother unless its just my imagination. My car has done 70k and the fluid had never been changed since new to my knowledge. Spec says 1 Litre can of AISIN Premium ATF 6, suitable for all Automatic transmissions that take Dextron 11, Dextron 111 and Toyota T-1V (Type 4) grades, basically all except those that take the new WS (World Standard) fluid. Always consult your handbook for correct application. Seems to tie-up with earlier comments about Aisin making the gearboxes etc. However my handbook for GS300 year 2007 says use ATF JWS3324 or NWS9638. Looking on Google WS seems to be different that T-IV. Also an extract from the product details suitable for all except those that take the new WS (World Standard) fluid.   48. Yes mate I wrapped mine last year. Not that difficult to be honest and most of it comes apart quite easily, there are videos on YouTube showing how to get things apart. The wrap is probably the cheapest option and cost me about £20 but you can't rush it and make sure everything is clean before you wrap it. Get some samples before you decide as the pictures vs how it looks and how it suits the car vary a lot. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
