  2. Had few more parts turn up and had a day off today so cracked on with it... New air con condensor came, got a quote off the dealer for over £230! This cost me just over £80 so quite a saving. Wanted to be stealthy looking like the factory 1 so gave it a quick spray with some satin black. Compared to the old 1.... Looks so much better now!! My alternator belt also turned up so that got thrown on. Also fitted my sparkplugs, went for NGK iridiums heat range 8 ready for some boost. Next up was the radiator, i ordered a mishimoto for some extra cooling and the original had a slight leak on it. Looks stunning! I then gave the fan cowling a good clean up and got that fitted. Now this is when i ran into a small issue, the fan cowling was hitting the crank pulley when fitted due to the extra size of the pulley. Luckily it was only a small part of the plastic so pulled it back out and trimmed it down with the dremmel. No pictures of this but now it has around 8-9mm of clearance. So with the radiator in and condensor fitted i then had to freshen up the horns as these was looking weathered. Quick clean up and some satin black and they was looking fresh again. And now the final pictures of it in the bay, getting excited now! Feel like ive got so much done and looking so much better, front panel will also be painted at some point and it has a couple of rust spots. Enjoy 🤤

  3. Getting out there. My car is filthy most of the time (mainly because it's my daily) but it is maintained mechanically to the highest possible order. In terms of favourite location.... There is only one for me. The Nordschleife. Not only the Ring itself but some of the roads around the Eifel region are immense and contain some awesome machinery. Not every day you share a stretch of tarmac with a Gumpert Apollo in front and an Aventador behind all going to the same location :-)

  4. Just wanted to say "hi" to you all! I recently bought a 2008 GS 450h and I've to say it is an amazing car! Luckily I also found this forum: it has already provided lots of useful information for me... BR. Sami

I have been trying for the past few days to find one after my local lexus dealer gave me the costs for genuine parts !!!!! 6. Although the RX300 and RX400h are the same body shape I'm not sure how similar their exhausts are but, someone on this forum had a custom stainless steel exhaust made for his RX300, cat back and guaranteed for life, for £395 all in.

  8. My local garage, Boroughbridge Auto Services, has just found me a complete stainless steel system for £600 +VAT. No idea where from, but he sourced and fitted it in 24 hours. Hope this helps.

  11. +1 to the notifications above that its probably the battery. A dead one like explained above will initially charge but will discharge very quick. The car does use power for its systems but not to an extent it will drain it over night. A dead battery will throw up a lot of spurious faults also that will lead you on the wrong path in looking for the fault. If yours has a Panasonic fitted then best guess its the original one and 9 years for a battery is not a bad lifespan for one. Like everyone else on here has said, the 068 is the correct one - also replaced one myself to my old 10 year old car and that was a replacement from the original one.

  12. Do you still have the OEM factory fitted black top/clear sides Panasonic battery in your car ? If so then as it is coming up to 10 years old then it had done quite well in the scheme of things ( all that electrical kit in a SE-L would kill a lesser battery in no time). Mine lasted just over 10 years and was OK one day and Click Click Click the next, so treat her to a Bosch (about £80-90 and all should be good for another 4-5 years) Check out this thread from last year that covers all you need to know about battery replacement for the 250.

  15. Defo get the Bosch 068 type. Did mine a few months back. The first signs of winter and your battery will no doubt get worse. Our cars are similar age...it happens ...some batteries go 10 years, some go 7 or so. Variety of factors lead to battery death. As John says they are often around £80 mark inc delivery on eBay from reliable sellers. Euro car parts are often quite a bit more ...like £110 or so.

  17. Both of my previous LS430's had rear sensors but not front ones. I do find the camera to be just as good and the front mast with a blue led tip is surprisingly good at letting me know where the front is. What I don't understand is if it does have self parking, where are the sensors? All of that aside, it is without a doubt the quietest LS I've owned which is nice.

  18. HI there, I had the same problem a few years ago with my 400h. All the relevant lights came on when I pressed the start button but no ready light. It was the 12 volt battery, as I was away in my caravan at the time I managed to jump start it using the van battery. Once I got home I got the battery load tested and it failed. Battery changed and no more problems. Hope this helps Bri

  20. Fair enough - you'll need the alternator checking as well. It's hard to tell if a battery is OK without a comprehensive test - just because it takes a quick emergency charge and gives reading for a while doesn't mean much Note that you are unlikely to get a type 068 battery at Halfords, and don't let them fob you off with something else (which might or might not do the job). The one you link to is a type 031 - completely wrong. Search for type 068 on Google - EuroCar Parts and Car Parts4Less usually sell them, but they won't list the 068 as correct for the IS250. That seems to be a secret known only to us on here!

  21. Probably the battery is knackered - it happens. Suggest you just get a new one - you need a type 068 (rare - most likely won't be in stock in your local battery shop). You'll find people here recommend Bosch S4026 or Varta E23 (they are identical to all intents and purposes) A dealer will charge the earth, both for the battery and fitting. You can get one yourself and fit it for about £80 or so.

  22. Sounds like something is either draining the battery, or the battery itself isn't up to it. I'd probably replace the battery to be honest, most likely to be it.

  23. Cleaning and modifying for me. The roads in my neck of the woods are very very busy and in an extremely poor condition. Love driving the car, just get no pleasure avoiding massive holes in the road. looking forward to the southern meet if it happens to go further afield 👍🏻

  27. I would like to add to this thread with my experience of three years with a GS450h. Mine is red with light grey leather, and piano black wood. It had done about 104,000 miles when purchased from Lexus Woodford. It’s now on about 125k. It is an 07 SE-L so it has all the bells and whistles some of which later became options e.g. sun (moon) roof, PCS and ACC. I had the PCS kick in one day but fortunately that was the only time. I use the ACC all the time on motorways and dual carriageways. I could live without the sunroof but it is useful to leave it open if the dog is left in the car. It does not have the active rear wheel steering option which I have never seen. Driving experience As Odysseus as the start of this thread! I would only add that it might well stick to the road like glue round corners but I don't stick in the seat so I don't know how much it could be pushed. As Odysseus so eloquently put it "the car would rather you stopped being silly and drove properly". Mrs Trout says this too. I do many fewer miles than Odysseus and don't find the tank too small. The boot is small but I am good at packing. It encourages not packing stuff you don't need except when going to the tip. I am not moved by the shape which strikes me as bland. It does not attract attention even in red which is fine by me. I am very impressed by its 0.27 drag coefficient. My best mpg is 45 (Old Sodbury to Oxford): my worst 21 - all short journeys in town which usually gets about 30. On 150 mile runs I get 36 if cruising at the limits or 40 if I slow down a little and the traffic is light. Maintenance The car came with 1 year Lexus warranty which I extended a further two years when it ran out. The only issue I had was dampers - all four needed replacing. Three were original, one had only done about 50k. After a long exchange with Lexus and the warranty company we settled with me paying for two at £695 (with no LOC discount). When this work was done the wheel nuts were overtightened to the extent that the security nuts were destroyed getting them off. I bought some used Toyota ones off eBay for ~£12. These look stronger to me and have not given any bother. (Or been overtightened.) I raised the over tightening with the Lexus main dealer responsible. They did not hold their hands up to this saying "Our technicians are fully trained etc. etc." I went elsewhere for the last service I had whilst under warranty. LOC discount was given for both main dealer services. Now that my warranty has expired my service plan is the minor-plus-MOT every year (see below) with extra items like plugs specified by me. My garage/MOT place for the last 50+ years is now fully able to service hybrids so I have gone back to them for service after brief spell away for warranty compliance. They are excellent and I commend them to anyone who wants an indie and can get to Kidlington just north of Oxford. See http://www.summertowngarage.co.uk. No connection other than a happy customer for 50+ years. I had nothing else under warranty but have done some things myself. The passenger wing mirror stopped tipping down when reverse was engaged - a very useful feature. I took it apart following the guide on this forum. (The guide doesn't say best attempted on a very hot day or when you have heated behind the mirror with a hair dryer. I tried when cold but was afraid if I pulled harder the mirror would break. In hot weather it was easy.) Nothing seemed gunged up and the mechanism was more enclosed than the one on the guide which was possibly why. I cleaned, lubricated and reassembled. It worked. Sadly pride comes before a fall and it stopped again a couple of days later. I assume it must have been a bad connection somewhere as it started working without further intervention and still is. Cost - just my time. I replaced the reversing lights which were only slightly more effective than a Morris Minor starting handle with LEDs. A great improvement for £7 on eBay. Now <£5! I have not have sticking/seized callipers. Forewarned by this forum, I cleaned up the calliper pins and applied the Lexus approved grease (http://proslip.com. Again no connection other than a happy customer). One horn failed. I replaced it with one from a local car parts shop for ~£10. (There were much cheaper ones!). I have now replaced all four tyres but like bulbs this is an expected running cost. So are new discs and pads and I have done the fronts £94. The rears might need doing in a couple of years. Also expected are bulbs. I replaced both dipped beam HID bulbs. One was failing exactly as described in the Wikipedia entry on HID bulbs but I replaced both. Their envelopes were very darkened and the light output must have been well down. The replacement bulbs were £16 and have been fine for last two years. Other consumables have been a cabin pollen filter ~£6 at Halfords with discount, wiper blades ECP for £22, 2 x navigation maps (genuine not pirate copies) £24 and ~£30 from eBay. The TPMS batteries are still holding up which is good after 11.5 years. At present I have a very slight weep of oil and also of coolant. I'm carrying a litre of each to top up if required and may have to tackle the cause at some stage. We do all check our oil and coolant levels regularly don't we? I do now. Acknowledgements Whist I used to do most car repairs myself, six years of a Camry and then 10 of a Mk2 GS300 ownership doing nothing meant I got out of the habit. Cars got much more complicated too - perhaps only garages with sophisticated equipment can fix them now. However I was encouraged to have a go by this forum which is amazingly helpful. In particular I must especially thank Britprius. He is a mine of information and has offered great tips and advice. The cunning minor-service-plus-MOT service plan is his idea and is a fantastic money saver. Thanks John. John

  28. Have you tried holding down the lock button on your keyfob then pressing the unlock button on the fob twice quickly. The led will flash 4 times ( I think). This also saves the fob battery.

  29. Sorted the fused pick up by using the ignition controlled circuit of the windscreen washers. Fuse number 9, 20amp right hand lower footwell fuse board. Dash cam comes on when starting car and then switches off turning car off. Quality of the mini videos when viewing on the laptop are very good. Would recommend the Nextbase 512GW model.

  30. Hi, keep the aircon on at all times, summer and winter. It's false economy to turn it off. Modern systems don't zapp fuel economy like they used to 20 years ago. Run the system at all times will reduce the bacteria in the system which causes the smells. There is oil in the system that lubricates the pump and if turned off will cause the seals on the pump to dry and leak. Modern Lexus use R1234yf gas which is much more expensive to replace than older gases. The cost of replacing the pump if the seals fail. My NX 300h returns 42 MPG with AC on at all times. Hope this helps.

  31. Mine's on the factory default position (middle) and seems just about right. Maybe it's model dependant? The only time I feel the need to intervene is when it's raining, flicking the headlamps to On. Why don't Lexus have the same system as Mercedes, whereby the dipped headlamps come on if the wipers operate for >20sec? The number of numpties driving around in the torrential rain today without any lights on ....

  32. Tomorrow, I'll scan the relevant pages from my 460 manual and post them on here. From experience, I can tell you that it is quicker just to park it yourself. It is a 'parallel parking' system.
