  1. The 400 is a superb drive, and most report it as reliable as a brick, but when I was looking for my current car the best ones I could find seemed a little rough around the edges. I test drove three 400s, three 430s and two 460s and of the 3 the 430 was the best compromise for me and I opted for an early face lift (2004 on an 03 plate). The 430 has the most useful gadgets of the 460 without the irritations of most. The non-radar cruise control works, although I would prefer the Honda Legend style of control buttons on the steering wheel rather than the stubby stalk. The Nav is OK, but I rarely use it as I prefer my TomTom or even Google Maps/Waze on my phone. The hi-fi is OK, but not as good as I expected it to be with the Mark Levinson logo on it (it does need a speaker fixing/replacing). As for drive-ability, the motor is awesome, the gearbox mostly good (gets confused occasionally), the suspension awesome, the ride sublime, and the seat comfort only slightly worse than my old S-Class. I could care less about the rear seat massagers/recliners and the fridge is mostly useless for me. Where it really surprised me was hustling through the twisties. For a big old barge, boy can she move. Fast, precise, controllable, less roll than my Legend or the S-Class, and endless power to blast you out of the corners, and all that whilst remaining quiet and refined. I liked the 400s (felt like a better quality version of the Legend) but I love the 430. I disliked the 460, felt vague and unconnected. Might make a great limo, but not a drivers car.

  2. Hi all, registered in 2016 but I’ve never been on to say hello. Apologies. I own a 2008 ISF with a Hayward and Scott exhaust and recently added Works alloys. Had it 3 years and it’s been the best car I’ve owned. Look forward to chatting and getting involved.

  3. Whether the prices asked for Premium over Regular are justified in terms of measurable benefits have occasionally been discussed on LOC Forums without much consensus of opinion. As regards my own view, I remember being taken to task for suggesting that putting Premium in your car is a bit like expecting premium-priced pet foods to deliver wetter noses and glossier fur when you may really be letting the natural desire to pamper the object of your affection get the better of you. Not that there is anything wrong with this, far from it, but, much as I have tried over the years to put a positive spin on the possible advantages in terms of mileage or power and performance of using Premium, I have objectively found none or very few - and although the advertised claims of some brands may well be accurate, they presumably derive from testing in controlled conditions that have little to do with real life. The 10% premium typically asked over Regular in the UK mentioned by Matt is well above the norm of most other European countries, where I would guess the average to be more like +5-6%. Be this as it may, even if, as Peter would reasonably maintain, you end up laying out the same cash for ten tankfuls as you otherwise would for eleven, few of us will notice the difference within the economics of owning and running our types of car. Really, the only thing that irks me somewhat about the price of Premium is the oil companies' reluctance to narrow the gap between it and Regular, which they could probably do without reducing their margins too much if one is to judge by their expenditures on Premium-specific advertising, forecourt displays, and promotions such as double loyalty-points etc. My own practice, based less on conviction than force of habit, is to fill up with Premium only occasionally, say every 6-7 re-fuellings, thus supposedly and desirably "flushing out" the fuel system (and keeping in mind the unpleasant and probably not wholly accurate comparison with clogged arteries resulting from an unhealthy diet), even though I'm aware that the same result could be achieved with judicious squirts of injector-cleaning fluid. I should add, however, that I recently heard that flushing-out by either of these methods could, if you're unlucky, have the dire effect of not removing deposits and encrustations but of merely shifting them to other possibly more critical locations.

  9. Despite owning the 430 for 6 years I still love the Mark 4 - I saw one drive past today and boy did it look good ( I stopped to admire) - The paint was gleaming ( R reg) and it just floated past silently - If i could afford to run 2 cars I would buy one because one thing is for sure and save a piece of history The 430 is a great improvement on the 400 in my opinion. After 6 years I still look forward to a drive and admire the quality of materials and workmanship and I have immense respect for her - I cant think of ANY other car I would feel the same with.

  10. I saw the link to the club on FB and thought it sure I’d signed up a while back but forgot to introduce myself etc. I thought it was about time lol Thanks for the comment about the alloys, I think they suit the car/colour plus the arches are filled more.

  12. As Richard says, it must be fit for purpose so you do have the full weight of the law on your side. They must by law rectify any faults or refund you. I assume you have a receipt?

  15. I am not so sure this will be the case, as battery technology changes rapidly at the mo. Try buying a OEM grade battery for 10 year old mobile phone or DSLR, and you are more than likely to end up buying a less robust Chinese copy which keeps it charge for as long as it takes a cup of tea to cool down. I wonder if at some point we we start to see independent battery specialists popping up to maintain the Pruis or 600 as a classic car??

  18. Little update, ive had a change of plan with the project......... So this was the original plan i had body kit wise but ideas have changed. Im thinking of keeping the body standard looking. Now i may struggle getting the power down but im thinking it may be possible to get a 265 wide sticky tyre on 9.5 inch wide rim. The more and more i look at pictures of a standard body IS300 lowered the more i feel its the right thing to do. On another note i have sorted the down pipe, i ordered a down pipe off topspeed pro. This pipe is designed for a left hand drive car so it was a risk as i have the manifold 1 side and the steering column the other side to contend with. A quick trial fit shows its not going to fit but......... the down pipe came with a vband flange..... problem is my BW s364 turbo has a marmon style flange. So i ordered a marmon flange off ebay to get welded on, turns out by welding the marmon onto the vband it made it fit absolutly perfect!!!! in the 2nd picture you can see just how close it is to the column, this has pretty much the same gap the other side to the manifold. All i have to do now is get it joined upto to the center section with the 3 to 4 inch flare. This then gave me a new problem, the heater matrix hose was now touching and in the way of the down pipe. I had a couple of bits of spare coolant hose about as i had removed the transmission cooler and replaced another pipe. So had a play with these bits of spare pipe and cooked this up Almost bang on just need to join the 2 together. Then throwed it back on to test it. Perfect 👌 just need some heat protection for it now.

  19. 4 Michelin Cross climates fitted today at cost of £700. got the Michelin refund deal and as the tyres are 19 inch that means a preloaded Visa Card with £100 credit. Car is totally transformed and all rumbling has disappeared so clearly was a tyre issue. Will report further on their performance when i've done a few miles on them.
