  1. To be fair any car over 10 years old and some 100,000 miles could end up with an expensive failure of eg engine or gearbox so I don't view hybrids much different in that respect - the cvt is simpler than a conventional autobox so may be more reliable and the normally aspirated engine has probably been less stressed than a small capacity turbo engine and a failure of the hybrid system (batteries) appears rare even on old cars going by Prius stats and isn't necessarily a write off situation even if there is an issue - at least no more than eg a replacement engine.

  2. Thanks everyone for your warm welcome! To answer a couple of questions above; Gordon-Keebles came as standard with the 327 Chevy small block (5.4 litres) out of the Corvette, but mine is fitted with a 383 chevy stroker (6.3litre) with Edelbrock aluminium heads, a roller cam and other go-faster goodies. It has 425 bhp and 495 ftlbs of torque, which in a 1300 kg car makes for reasonably sprightly performance! I loved my V10 Phaeton, so much so that I kept it for 12 years and 140,000 miles. It was the long wheelbase four-seater version with all the options, supremely comfortable and a great drive. It was only the fear of declining reliability and big bills with increasing age that led me to part with it. However, the joys of GS F ownership are helping me get over the loss! Mike

  4. Haha, I was only joking about that ☺️ Little update: Went in to Lexus Coventry to try and make some sense of the daft answers I've had from them on the phone so far. Spoke to a very nice chap called Tom, who agreed with what I was saying about not charging me labour twice. We've agreed at £395+65, so I'll be getting timing belt + water pump done on Tuesday. They will advise me at the time in terms of the current health of tensioners and pulleys (they are dear though!) Hope this helps everyone.

  5. Hi Vlady, thanks 😉 i appreciate it. regarding my previous GS, i added nice JNC wheels from US, Teins coilover, tinted windows, and some deflectors. that's actually, what i used to do on any car i have. That GS was nearly new with a 90.000 on clock, new paint... I expect to do same on LS this winter. But i would like to solve my different electronic problem before ... 😞 my feeling is : bigger, much bigger... but more responsive with the 6 AT, it feels faster. I really appreciate the silence inside, but would prefer to hear the Mark.Levi 🙂

  6. Four months into GS F ownership I finally got around to taking some pictures. So here it is, early car with fixed dampers, sonic titanium with red leather, Mark Levinson but no sunroof -perfect spec for me. The plate doesn't really suit but came off my V10 Phaeton which the F replaced. Plan is to keep it forever -one of the reasons I chose it over an M5 or AMG. I love the sense of occasion you get when driving, and the Jekyll and Hyde character. And, of course, the noise! I feel very fortunate to own three of the best sounding cars ever -the GS F, an S54 BMW Z3 M Coupe and a Gordon-Keeble. Hi to everyone on the forum! Mike

  9. Hi, Here are some pictures from my LS430 recently bought. I sold my GS300 sport edition to taste the V8 from the updgraded 2004 model. From now i do not regret at all, as It is much much more confortable and quiet. I paid it very cheap price, and decided to refurb it as totally new. - paint - leather - wheels... (I have already done leather + front lights ; not on pictures) However, i have few options not working, and i might need some help to find solution. I am also french, (used to live in London years ago) but hope to not make so many mistakes 😉

  10. There's no reason to warm the car up in cold weather. When I had my 300h work was 1 1/2 miles away and the car reached warm within a mile. Plus I believe it's illegal to leave a car running unattended. Sorry to pee on your bonfire.

  11. We went out today and I checked our IS300h. With the seat heaters set on Level One, they stay at that level after a restart. The HRW/Heated mirrors do switch themselves off however.

  13. Interesting views but .. if your LS is bankrupting you why go for an RX .. I have been running a 2011 450h alongside an LS600h and quite frankly there is little in the mpg between them .. I rarely get mid 30's in the RX normally around 28-30mpg and mine has the Panoramic roof which dosn't open nor can I fit roof bars because of it .. then there are the under trays front and rear so can't fit a towbar to mount my bike carrier without major surgery .. fortunately this vehicle will swallow a small whale !! Not sure I agree with members comments regarding Air suspension .. as I have mentioned before and just a few days ago I asked about fitting Coilovers as find this RX of mine can be very uncomfortable over potholed roads whereas the same roads where I live in the LS600 (especially) , my X5 and Q7 all with Air suspension just soaked it up and bearing in mind the LS600 was a 2008 model and had no problems in 10 years .. so food for thought and for sure if I buy another RX its deffo going to have Air suspension and a heated steering wheel .. Lordy do I miss my LS !!

  14. Don’t start Phil... all my friends are telling me I am mad! But it’s 430...not 400 ...& has been a troublesome & costly love affair! I am ready to move on! And RX450h seems a damn good alternative.

  15. Brake and disks performing well but these pics show the difference between genuine Lexus front discs and aftermarket Apec rear disks. Hint - Apec are the rusty ones!

  19. Attached screenshots of 17” and 16” wheel spec comparison. The new 16” wheels are now fitted. Before I had them swapped I took some decibel readings from the centre of the cabin, at the centre of the back seat. The app I used was SPLnFFT in the Apple Store. I then took the same readings with the new tyres over the same dry roads and I will post the results here later today but first signs show the decibel reading at above 70db with the 17” wheels and 65db with the 16” on average. Watch this space.

  22. We have a late (November) 2013 RX450h Advance and we love it. We paid just under £25k for it back in February with just over 33k miles on the clock. It has 95% of the bells and whistles that the Premier has but, crucially for me, no air suspension. I've never owned a car with air suspension but have been a passenger in many and I really don't think it brings anything over and above 'normal' suspension in comfort or performance. What it does add is a whole new layer of complexity and expense to an already complex and expensive car.

  23. Very nice wheels you have ! I’m still head over heels with my IS but I can see a day when one of these will look good on my drive Enjoy! 👍👍

  24. Oh yes, very slick n stealthy. I read somewhere a few years back that if you walk away from your car and don't look back at it, you've bought the wrong one... your neck will do overtime with the RC. Is that the rose leather?

  25. Because I thought it could be felt only through the steering wheel but can clearly be felt through the chassis, opening up more possibilities. If I'm honest, I posted this thread as I thought there may be an, "Oh yeah, that'll be the doohickey rams - they all do it and it's an easy fix".... I'm presuming it's a mix of old tyres and old bushes so will work through as and when funding allows. Thanks guys

  26. Great choice, and welcome to the sub-Forum. To judge by my own experience you are going to spend a lot of time just gazing at her sleek lines. I notice you wisely gave other cars in the park plenty of distance.

  27. Small update, my valve covers are finally back! Good things come to those that wait, they have turned out fantastic! The pictures really do not do this colour justice at all especially the far away shot of the bay, the finish is flawless. The work was done by maldon shot blasting and powder coating http://www.ctc-powder-coating.co.uk/ there colour range is outstanding with alot of wild colours. Now i know its looks a bit disjointed at the minute but once its all done it will look great (in my opinion of course 😎) Brake calipers will also be this colour or very similar so it wont be the only orange bit on the car. Roll on black friday for some more parts

  28. My commute is 15 miles on c-roads and single track lanes. Over the past two mornings the roads have been icy with below feeezing temperatures added to damp conditions. The initial signs for tyre grip are good. These Bridgestone do inspire confidence, and feel very grippy indeed. I don't think they're any better than my previous Falken Winter tyres, but they are quieter. Fingers crossed they are good if and when the going gets snowy...but so far I'm impressed.

  29. Thanks John. I am enjoying the car very much, and without wanting to tread on anyone's toes, I have a new RX450h as a loaner and it is making me miss my GS even more. I can't wait to get it back.

  30. Got back yesterday, I managed 460 miles on the first tank, averaging 36/7 miles to the gallon, I could have managed 40MPG although I did enjoy myself 😄 On the way back, the 2nd fill averaged 36MPG, got a quarter tank left with 420 miles recorded so will prob do about the same. More than happy with that 🙂
