  1. I was lucky enough to drive a LC 500 (V8) for the day today, while my own car was at the dealer's. Just loved it: what a car. Could not get enough of that V8 rumble. I was amazed how easy and civilised the car is to drive in busy traffic. I also found it extremely comfortable. Not sure I would go for black myself (I love the sonic red), but the red/black interior is just stunning. Sent from my LG-H930 using Tapatalk

  2. While I agree at first sight on the hybrids there does not seem to be a great advantage in fitting a larger capacity battery. In fact there are are number of advantages. The ability to be able to sit in the car listening to music or even watching a DVD without having to have the engine start up on a regular basis. The car can stand much longer periods of non use without the battery getting to the point where it cannot boot to ready. As a battery ages it looses capacity. Using a higher capacity battery helps reduce this effect. Loosing 50% of the 70 ah OEM battery capacity means the actual capacity would be 35 ah. Loosing 50% of a 110 ah battery means it would still have 55 ah's capacity left important as the battery ages. The difference in price is negligible if any at all. With non hybrids where a normal stater motor is used the higher capacity makes a big difference to engine cranking particularly in the cold. Be cause of space restrictions the CT only has a 45 ah battery, but still has much the same demands put on it as other hybrids such as the Prius. Having owned a Prius, and from reports in the CT section I know the battery in these vehicles is inadequate for it's purpose. Many reporting the inability to go to ready mode after standing at at airports ect, and having to resort to using external chargers at home to help bolster the battery capacity. John.

  4. Trust me - they don't. It really grinds my gears to hear Americanisms like this. Even worse is hearing someone in a pub/bakers/whatever saying, "Can I get a widget" NO, you cannot get a widget! You can have a widget and the person behind the counter will get it for you, but you can't get it because you don't work there! Sorry, rant over, now going to have a hot chocolate and calm down before bed 😁

  5. Howdy all, 2005 RX300 SE-L 80k Thought I'd post this in case it helps anyone out - Considering a new height sensor is about 300 quid, I thought I'd open up my faulty one and see what laid within before shelling out. Although I had no warning lights etc., the car was riding really harshly and kangarooing at the back from the tiniest bump, so something was clearly amiss.. Consulting my ebayed workshop manual: Straightened out paper clip connecting pins 4 and 13 on the OBDII port starts diagnostic mode (quite fun as it opens up a diag screen on the satnav which is interesting to play with).. The 'OFF' light for the air suspension flashes out code 14 telling me that the LH rear sensor is faulty. Took about 10 mins to take it off and test its resistance according to the chart - Mins was in the 100's of Kohms, so manual recommends replacement. Nothing to lose at this point, so opened it up and found that it's a pretty rudimentary bit of kit, with some steel springs that carry the signal (apparently via some black conductive paint on the lid) As you can see, it was all pretty rusty in there (and wet with WD40 in these pics!) So, I cleaned everything up, gave the springs a rubdown with some emery paper (If you do this, be careful when you take the lid off - Don't, as I did, let them ping out and have to spend half an hour trying to find one of them!) Do, however, pull them out and clean up the area where they sit into the base - I think this is where mine was losing connection. Anyhoo, cleanup, reassemble, check resistance (all good now) and put it back on the car - All back to wafty floatiness !! If I ignore the spring-finding time, it probably took and hour in total and cost me... errrm.. nothing. Well worth a bash if you have height sensor trouble..

  6. I need to do the spark plugs on my car as its approaching 90K miles and never been done. I have been offered a service kit from Lexus Birmingham to include: "service kit including oil filter, air filter and pollen filters as well as spark plugs and intake gaskets for £164.75 inc VAT. Does this sound like good value? I'm assuming iridium plugs but will check.

  7. RX400h had it's MOT and 125,000 mile service done earlier in the week, all it needed to pass was front brake pads, handbrake adjusting and 3 bulbs renewing, no advisories either so well chuffed! Service consisted of oil & filter, air filter and pollen filter. Already for the Winter but I'm hoping I don't need it as a "Snow Weapon" lol

  8. Update. The car went in today and is with them for a few days. A run along the M6 with one of the technicians driving resulted in him describing the car as 'very loose'. He also confirmed to me he could hear the noise which he said will be thoroughly investigated by himself together with the suspension and steering components. I also wrote a short 'essay' (like my initial post above) for them so I could give as much information as possible, describing what I feel and hear, what has been done in the past to try and rectify it as well as mentioning the potential causes of the problem which @NemesisUK and @is200 Newbie put forward. Thanks very much. Only slight downside is the courtesy car. A Yaris. Now there is nothing wrong with that except it's a manual so I have to learn to drive one of those again! I haven't driven one for years. Will hopefully know more beginning of next week.

  9. Major. It's true that the car shouldn't be driven after that, but I have a good relationship with the garage and they know I live just half a mile down the road, so we agreed I'd fix it and call them for a retest. Didn't charge me for now! (There are a few other issues I need to attend to) Sent from my PSP7551DUO using Tapatalk

  10. Welcome to the wonderful world of the 460! I've had mine for 6 years now and it has been completely reliable...…...just like my 400 was. Mine has 142,000km (88,000miles) on it and passed the Dutch version of the MOT the other day. I am very aware of the reported problems on the 460 and ask my garage (the local Lexus dealership) to pay particular attention to the air suspension and the steering links. They told me that there are no problems at all. BTW, the reason I use the dealership is because a) they know the car and b) they don't charge the exorbitant prices you guys have to pay in the UK. Mind you, I don't have to drive on the bloody awful roads that you have to suffer.

  12. I bought a lovely Wood wheel from America for twice the amount you paid - said it was for a '93 but turned out to be for a later model. Couldn't see how to adapt it so sold it recently after a year or two's languishing at home, for £149 plus delivery. Feedback read " Absolutely superb what more can i say. extremely impressed " Very glad buyer is pleased with it. They cost over £1k new I believe? Had some wood on my Riley but not a 60's icon but a '34 Lynx Tourer. First Car I ever owned.

  15. Totally agree with you on this, also when my wife and I are addressed as "guys" ; she most definitely is not a guy and the difference is very obvious..... Are you sure that "widget" isn't an Americanism......? 😂

  16. With the greatest of respect - that's a silly statement and if you genuinely would pay that then one might say that you have too much money burning a hole in your pocket. It's not like you'd even be getting a 'genuine Lexus battery' for that extortionate amount because Lexus don't make batteries! It's a 12V battery, nothing more, nothing less and it's an easy 10 minute job to DIY. Even if you don't want to DIY there's still no need to pay such a ridiculous amount, as the screengrab below from another topic on this very forum shows:

  17. I would definitely wait for some more opinions. For starters, I'd want to know why my Gel/AGM battery requires a change after only 3 years, when a normal acid battery will give more. Unless it's doing something unique, the 12v batteries in Lexus hybrids normally only help transfer the electrics of the car to the hybrid. Nothing special needed for that.

  18. Good point! if I don't buy some new bulbs that is in effect making the Vlands £100+ cheaper!

  19. Latest update - Wheels done, now just waiting for Lexus Sidcup to pay for it! Really good job, and the guy obviously takes pride in his work: I need to get some better pictures, but these were the only quick snaps I could get outside the garage while the sun was still up. One slight issue was that one of the Tyre Pressure sensors wouldn't come out, so a new one had to be fitted. Genuine part for £75 wasn't bad, but of course, I now need to get it programmed. I tried TechStream but I keep getting this error: So it looks like a trip to a dealer might be in order, which will no doubt be ridiculously expensive for the amount of work done. Other than that, all is well and I am thoroughly enjoying my time in it.

  20. Brake Caliper Specialists (BCS). See their site here: https://www.bcs-automotive.co.uk/ These guys do work for high end dealers as well as private jobs. If they are good enough for the likes of McLaren, they are good enough for me! Lol.
