  1. Last update for now. Got my new tyre sensor programmed at Lexus Reading today, so all is good for now. Lexus Sidcup really came through with not only payment for the alloy refurb but the sensor and programming too! Almost 3000 miles into my ownership now and still loving it every time I take it out

  2. Which is why I always advocate that if the government says we have to have car insurance they should supply it as in Road Tax.

  3. There are far too many parameters for anyone to draw a meaningful comparison. Age , occupation, post code etc. I paid £170 fully comp for my 2015 IS last year, however it was part of a multi car policy along with my two daughters and I'm pretty sure the price was offset against a slightly more expensive premium on one of those two, although I can't confirm. Prior to that I was paying roughly £200 for 3 litre BMW and my cost to change back to new BMW a few months ago has simply been an admin charge, so no increase. Every year the price increases but I just get another quote online, ring them up and they reduce it back down.

  4. I don't understand it either. I have a Volvo which cost me £195 this year, and less than £300 for the Celsior. I keep reading about huge increases but it never seems to be that bad, yet someone like Vlad gets hammered. I guess the car value comes into it though, as does location and a person's age. My Volvo cover increase this year was just £11, which unlike you Mike means we went to bed with empty bellies!😢

  6. I know what you mean and agree with that.... however government and "road tax" (now vegan cyclists would disagree with you "as in UK we don't have road tax") doesn't work that well either, but that is different topic altogether. Point being - if it is mandatory, then it should be fair and simple... no 90 question forms where depending on your hair colour you pay more or less. Simple static fee based on maybe 4-5 criteria directly linked with the car insurance category and drivers experience and it should only pay third party damage, no non-sense. If somebody wants to insure their fancy car with fully comp... then they can go and get additional insurance and it would still keep market competitive. Now we are legally required to pay thousands with little say and even less transparency of what we are actually paying for... meanwhile large insurances pays-off billions in dividends to shareholders. Basically... cashing in on people tragedies..

  8. Mine failed at 143k. New Denso compressor arrived today but without oil and O rings which I've now ordered. Local aircon specialist won't fit it quoting liability issues fitting a part that they hadn't supplied albeit brand new. I'll probably fit it myself and do a step by step photo trail. Will then get it flushed and recharged. The Denso book that came with compressor highlighlights that other parts of the system should also be changed. I'll do photos later.

  9. Firstly check any relevant fuses? Then determine exactly what's wrong. Get the car on a diagnostic reader, Techstream? perhaps?

  12. Three shillings per day, tax free, Any excess over three shillings was taxable, but you could get a wonderful 3 course Business Lunch at the local Chinese Restaurant in Liverpool !!

  13. I was only talking about luncheon vouchers a couple of days ago. Remember when job adverts would include that as a perk? Maybe insurance companies should reinstated them!

  14. Maybe so, but the discussion on page 2 was about 225/45R17 in which you certainly can get both. On my Honda, which was on 225/45r17. I went from eagle f1 asymmetric to pirelli cinturato p7 and certainly noticed the much greater compliance in the Pirelli. The point I was trying to make was that the eagle F1s on Adrian300h's (where he does report skipping) are less compliant than the Yokohama blueearth on wharfhouse's car (who does not report skipping). All else being equal (car, tyre size).

  15. I have to agree with you there, using google maps and th like introduce some seriously odd shortcuts, invariably over lots of traffic calmed streets in an urban environment.

  17. Hey Allan, Fear not the Is250 is euro 4 so you wont have to pay the charge. I checked with them and they admitted they dont have all the cars listed on their online checking tool. Kind Regards, Mo

  18. So... Had the car in for the cam belt change at 76500 miles (and almost 13 years old) - discovered (thankfully after all that work) it was actually needed as the original belt was still on the car and had started to stretch. Obviously did all the other bits when in that far and had a full service and fluids change. I was given some chrome trim for the bumpers that I will fit when its a bit warmer as I would be wary that the "glue" might not stick very well in the cold weather. I have now also tinted the windows, and found a rear reversing sensor on ebay for £7 🙂 just need a wheel cap for the facelift wheels but they are like hens teeth at the minute (at least a nice clean one is anyway) Still need to find a way to get the drivers seat cushion repaired/replaced and that is proving difficult as none of the local upholsterers want to know because of the vented/heated seats. Apart from that its driving great and I can see me keeping this one until I can't drive it anymore either due to being very poor or very old 🙂

  20. Never use comparison sites and avoid the big names who draw you in cheap then offer new customers a better deal when you come to renew. It's all a con and I refuse to play the game.

  21. Hi all. Mine is due for renewal in January so that should be a laugh It is at the moment £483.00 per year how they got this i do not know as when i owned my Jaguar XK 4.2 which i got in January 2017 i was paying £491.00 per year nothing different on the policy so how comes a 4.2 V8 Ali body coupe verses a 2.5 V6 steel body 4 door saloon get within £8.00 pounds cheaper the Lexus was cheaper than the Jaguar. It is not as if iam young in my fifties now with no convictions or any claims they say it's your post code c**p just a way off getting more money out off you. 65mike

  22. The car, its value, its (statistical) incidence of claims, extent of cover, amount of excess, location, where kept, driver`s (and other drivers) age and motoring history, annual mileage, are all core inputs to the calculation. Add to that the unwillingness of many owners to question their premiums or to seek alternative quotations or to read Motoring Surveys all equate to the premium charged. My wife (70) and I (72) are covered by LV for Social Domestic and Pleasure inc European Cover for 12,000 miles for £270.

  23. I am apparently in the age group where car insurance is at its lowest. I would seem to have learned all of life's driving lessons, and at 66 am a low risk they say. If only they could see how I drive sometimes!😇

  24. I am 38YO, had an accident 4 almost 5 years ago and it was not my fault, I have no idea why it would cost THAT much, TESCO insurance got too greedy I say! Quick search yesterday and I got price for £420 with Go Skippy! It's a shame as I was with Tesco for last 5-6 years! More searching will be done today! Thanks for your input guys.

  25. The prices insurance companies charge are as mystifying as the ways they work. I am 71 do around 5K a year had two non fault accidents in the past 8 years and I am paying £200 fully comp with a full NCB. This year the premium went down by 31p. The wife and I enjoyed a hearty lunch that day.

  26. Just to echo others, this is a common thing - as someone else posted earlier, mercedes have got it so bad with their GLC that there's a class-action lawsuit against them for it (from what I've read, it afflicts RHD cars much worse, because of a change in the steering geometry that occured during the changeover. Like it's GLK predecessor, the GLC seems not to have RHD in mind at the design stage, as there's nowhere for your left foot to go in an RHD GLC). Our V70 also does this on very tight turns. Two posters in this thread compared notes on 17" IS wheels - The eagle F1 Asymmetric have very stiff sidewalls while the Yokohama blueearth do not. It's not only the profile height, but the overall stiffness of the sidewall. That's why merc's fix for the GLC was to fit winter tyres - softer, more compliant rubber. Ultimately it's about choosing an appropriate tyre - there's a lot of people who "big up" tyres like the F1 Asymmetric, Michelin PS2, etc, but these are stiff UHP tyres that are aimed at cars where sporting responses are the #1 priority - eg BMW Z4, Toyota GT86, Supra, Cayman, etc. They're not really appropriate on a luxury saloon or family car - for this you're better off with a more compliant tyre like EfficientGrip, Crossclimate, Primacy, Turanza, etc (although I do NOT recommend Pirelli P7 Cinturato - we suffered a very high failure rate of these tyres). No, they won't provide quite as much grip in warm conditions as a UHP tyre nor as sharp response, but they have a wider operating envelope, lower noise, better wear and less crabbing. I recall a thread on the Volvo owner's club where someone was utterly insistent that Pilot Sport Cup 2s were the best tyre for a 2.0 diesel V50...
