  1. So Thursday morning I'm driving to work and the M25 is in carpark mode, so I come off at Sevenoaks and take the backroads. After passing a van that was doing 30 in a 60 limit I come round a gentle curve at around 50 and see white road. I ease out of the throttle but the rear end starts to slide, so I steer into it slightly and steer with the throttle. Thank god for a precise throttle and good steering feedback. After about 300yds of sideways action the white ended and grip resumed. Chances are the VSC helped but I never had time to look at the dash to see if the light came on. I pulled over into a layby and spent 30 mins waving people down and warning them about the ice and got to see a car and a van swap ends (they didn't slow down). Then the gritter turned up and did 2 runs so I continued on to work. Winter is here so stay safe people.

  2. I've recently switched over my 2008 OEM wheels after sourcing a set of 2012+ ISF OEM wheels from The States. Pretty happy with the outcome.....

  3. Interesting to read these thoughts on RX pricing. I'm the former owner of a cheap LS400 and have owned numerous Toyotas over the years (currently have Avensis, Auris and Camry on the driveway as well as several Datsun/Nissan), but I'm now looking to move onto a 2013-15 RX sometime next year. Fellow LOC member Jumpingjehovahs kindly let me have a drive of his RX recently and it did nothing to dissuade me..... I'm hoping that as the current model becomes more widespread on the used market then values of the previous-gen RX will soften. Maybe it's the time of year and customers are spending money elsewhere, but on my regular search I've noticed main dealer examples starting to drop a bit, with Derby now advertising a 2014 Advance with 44k miles for less than £21k and Sidcup having a 2014 Sport for £22,400 (listed at £400 higher on AutoTrader). Just noticed they've added a 2013 Luxury at less than £22k. I'm picking up some useful info from reading this forum, which should put me in a good position when I get to the point of visiting dealers sometime in February/March next year. Looks like there should be enough around at the right price/mileage to give me a bit of choice (not white, no panoramic roof, no air suspension). A quick question: Do Lexus dealers have the ability to adjust their interest rates on finance? Some, like Steven Eagell, quote lower figures than others, but as far as I'm aware they all go through Lexus Financial Services? I wish Toyota/Lexus offered a bit more choice in the large estate sector. An RX wouldn't necessarily be what I'd go for, although having now driven one I can see they are a fine thing and would suit me well. An estate version of the IS or GS would have been fine for me as a more interesting replacement to my current Avensis, but of course there is no such thing, and I believe the forthcoming Camry is only coming here as a saloon. A shame, especially when the Germans and Volvo offer so much choice in this sector.

  4. Currently doing a massive back up of my drives and came across this. I had originally planned to make this into a B&W and I did - not very well but it was my intention so I focused all my attention to it. I hastily processed this and actually - I think this is the one. _DSC1758 by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr I am kicking myself for not heading over there on Thursday or Friday. There was some epic sunrises and the metal would have picked it up well. Here is one from last year but the two I missed looked better. _DSC2279 (1) by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr

  5. I agree, the reviews all seem to say the same thing, although Chris Harris a reviewer I have the greatest respect for did conclude that as a road car it was fine. In all honesty I'm not fussed about whether the sat nav isn't the best, I do like a decent hifi system in a car although being a hifi fanatic I know how limited you are with a car environment but it'll do. I chose the RCF because it's different and I like driving it and find it perfectly adequate on todays speed camera strewn roads despite its weight which I haven't really noticed.

  6. Thank you, but already have £1800 offer. New to loc and thanks for letting me know. The system allowed me to post my advert. PS this car is too good for spares..has atleast another 200K drive in the engine.

  8. Lexus need to get into the right decade with the satnav at least. The Japanese know technology if nothing else, so why is this area still lagging behind ze Germans? The current gen RCF is still a desirable car, but Lexus are going to have to up their game (and down the weight) with the next one, if they really want to compete with the German marques.

  9. You and me both. Trouble is I'm having to translate from Japanese first!

  10. The front light assembly was one of the things that attracted me to the RCF good distinctive design.

  11. When ever the tracking is altered there is a re calibration process in Techstream to reset the steering wheel centre position, and for the electric power steering, and yaw rate sensors. This possibly could be the reason for your occasional pull under braking. If you have Techstream it is easy to do as the instructions for the procedure appear on screen. 13. Not an issue really, but thanks anyway.

  14. Thanks, I am deeply suspicious of air suspension. I shall plow on, I suspect a 350 is the more practical solution, whilst the 400 will probably be the available solution. Thanks everybody for all the useful help/pointers. Here's a pic of my much missed Mr Toad mobile 🙂

  15. What about an RX300. Not much difference compared to the RX350, especially at the low mileage you cover. I would avoid the SE-L model with the air suspension though.

  16. As Mrs Beeton instructed, first catch your car....🙂 It might be that our mileage precludes a hybrid, in which case I'll be refocussing on a 350. there are n:-(ot that many for sale, and those that are seem to be miles away. I don't travel like I used to.....:-(

  18. They do a 'Hybrid Health Check' for about £60 or £70 that, if everything is ok, covers the battery for a year.

  19. 2016, no nav. Quick dial works for the couple of numbers set.

  20. Mine worked 75% of the time, but I only used it to ring a few people plus to ask the sat nav to "go home" To be fair the whole infotainment is a bit rubbish

  21. Thanks @Chris Skelton. I do check mine occasionally and I also always re-torque the nuts myself after any work done but good advice that I'm sure a lot of people overlook. @Farqui and @Britprius I believe that there is a further problem for us GS 450h owners as in what do you do with the wheel and tyre that has had the puncture after fitting the space saver spare as a full size GS 450h wheel with tyre will not fit in the boot! If you've got a full car that will be a problem. I'm sure I have also read a thread on hear a few years back were the poster was stating that if you use a can of 'tyre gue' it will wreck the TPMS.

  22. Some good advise there Chris. I bet the great majority of folks do not check there spare tyre pressures at the same time as those on the car. The OEM alloy nuts however are designed to be used with the steel space saver spare. To overcome the problem of tight wheel nuts I carry a 12 volt lighter plug in electric wheel nut impact gun. It came in a handy plastic case, and choice of 4 impact sockets. In my GS450H it fastens nicely in the boot on the righthand side with the small strap that I believe is there to hold a first aid kit. It saves much time, and struggle changing wheels also working on my caravan wheels when towing. At from memory it was £25 well spent. It has come in handy removing stuck nuts for other people I have come across stuck on the side of the road. I also carry a small compressor, and a can of tyre gue. John.

  23. I have just done this yesterday. Had trouble getting the motor off from the original assembly, but all worked out in the end. The change is unbelievable. As everyone says, I should've done this ages ago.
