  1. Try this place https://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/power-steering-pumps They're very good to deal with and reasonably priced. They can even remanufacture your own pump if they don't have one on the shelf.

  4. To all whom it may concern. Some time ago I found a nice educational video - rear wheel drive oversteer @4:30: How to correct a slide on an icy road (and how to prevent them) - Winter driving education

  5. My 2 were from a seller in China on eBay. No brand as such ... I read the sellers feedback for a few different ads and chose one based on good reviews. They were so good I could leave my spare in the car in its pouch when we went walking in The Picos, N.Spain this summer. My daily key set goes in the pouch every night when I get home from work. I do, periodically, go out and walk past the car with the pouch in my pocket just to see if it’s stopped working. I’m looking to see if the puddle lights come on ....... and they have not once. My two were £4 delivered!!

  7. I didn't know that any of the rx400s could play a DVD in the front screen. I have a 2006 rx400se-l with rear dvd screens in the front seat head rests. The DVD drive is under the driver's seat. The wires in the front seat pockets are to connect external A/V feeds. Netsri, where did you put your DVD disc? I'm wondering if mine might also output to the front screen.......?

  8. The AFS is nothing to do with the hybrid system, it is the headlight auto-levelling and cornering system. The chances are that the rear suspension level sensor has snapped causing the flashing light on the dashboard. I drove mine around for several weeks like this before I got round to fixing it. It just means that the headlights don’t swivel and they stay at a fixed level so you will probably dazzle oncoming traffic with a heavy load in the boot. I kept my boot empty so I didn’t get anyone flashing their lights at me. All it needs is some thread and a couple of ball joints to make a new one. A Lexus dealer will happily relieve you of £500 for this but I fixed mine for the princely sum of £12. As for the hybrid issue of course that could be any component of the hybrid system but when I took mine for a service at a local Indy recently they pointed out that I have a corroded wiring loom going into the rear diff. I don’t have any issues at present but if mine throws a hybrid error then I would suspect that it is due to this. I would of course get the fault codes read first. I have attached a photo of what mine looks like. I’m not sure if that is causing your problem but the loom runs underneath the car on the outside so it is susceptible to corrosion from road salt and as your car is an older one then there is a fair likelihood that it could be this. The hybrid components are extremely reliable but this loom is vulnerable to age. It’s another example of something that was designed for Japanese roads that doesn’t get redesigned for the UK/Europe. The bad news is that Lexus dealers are extremely expensive. If you have to then get them to diagnose the problem but don’t feel that you have to use them for the repairs. Other garages or auto electricians can often do repairs for a fraction of the price to a good standard too. Good luck 😀

  9. I have a 400 and have been reluctant to move on to more modern models. They may be as well made and the quality may be the same, but they come with a lot of additional technology, which may potentially be problematic / expensive to fix. Just my take on it.

  10. Hi there sorry to hear of your issue. To the best of my knowledge there’s no interaction between the front screen and the rear screens. The wires you’ve found would normally connect to a DVD player and the colours correspond to left and right audio (red and white) and video (yellow). Could the DVD player have been removed prior to you getting the car? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Without the fault codes it is difficult to give any reason for the warnings. I can say that the reason for the brakes being hot is most likely due to the fact that regen braking is not working due to the hybrid fault. Regen braking is normally used to slow the car producing electricity to put back into the high voltage battery. This means the mechanical brake system has to work harder than it normally would. The problem could be something simple, but be prepared for Lexus to charge £100 or more just for diagnostics. It is worthwhile to invest for the future in a Mini VCI with an old laptop to be able to do your own diagnostics available on the Bay for around £20. A low 12 volt battery at start up can give rise to many false problems, but these disappear once the car has been started, and the battery gains charge. John.

  13. Hi. You will get different mileage figures in different seasons. I get lower in my RX400h in the winter than the summer for instance. Just a thought. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  14. There's a school of thought which goes along the path of there being a defined amount of work to be done and an expected time to do it in. Cheaper prices mean either the person carrying out the work is paid less, the premises overheads are lower, or some of the work isn't getting done.IE pay less, get less. I prefer to pay the minimum amount it takes to get a stamp in the service book and continue with completing the service work myself to to make sure that everything gets done ; since I am all too aware of the things which happen when bosses and share holders start making noises about "efficiency savings" (only doing half the job) and "streamlining" ( getting rid of some of the lower paid workers) whilst "maintaining standards" ( providing showroom comfy customer sofas and free coffees and biscuits ) and "putting the customer first" ( since it is the customers who the company must concentrate on fleecing) "improving quality assurance and governance" ( getting easily replaceable people to tick and sign boxes to say they have completed works--- even if they haven't been given the time and resources to do so). "Pay less , get less" is a good rule of thumb but one which has to be combined with common sense and savvy.
