  1. Just to follow up - the problem turned out to be due to a loosening of one of the nuts holding the passenger side wiper arm in place (the offside one) presumably that also provides drive to the arm. An easy fix without disturbing any of the trim... result!

  2. May have posted these before but they are two of my favourite shots of my car. Slightly compressed thanks to Google Drive.

  5. So it seems like short trips is maybe what’s causing the low mpg. Possibility because the engine is constantly restarting after stopping and pulling away in traffic. I will be going on a 90 mile drive in couple weeks so I will see what I get. Fingers crossed it’s 30 plus Otherwise I may have a issue on my hands but I have faith. will post a update shortly

  6. Went to Lexus Newcastle today specifically to see a Takumi spec car. There was also a base ES in the showroom and a specced up F Sport for demos. The Takumi spec is brilliant and outshines my NX Premier considerably. I love the exterior styling, almost coupe like. Inside, it’s a tech fest. I love the auto heat & vent seats plus the auto heat steering wheel, rear seat control panel and 10.2” HUD. ML audio is mighty and trim is impressive. The noise reducing wheels are stunning. The new spec steering wheels and interior door handles are very modern. If only it had Apple CarPlay.☹️ I will certainly consider the car later this year, sooner if Lexus resolve the CarPlay issue.

  7. Just bought this 84k miles, FSH car with every MOT from the first proving its done no more than 7k yearly since new, sweet as a nut with newish discs/pads all round, newish springs, 18 inch wheels and a fully working hi-fi system for the grand sum of 1100 quid as our second car due to my youngest needing our later model auto for work, so pleased to be driving a manual with a decent sized engine and comfort level again. I've been through the forum reading up on typical problems and this car only has the rear sill corrosion beginning to show which I'll sort out once the weather improves, if I can keep this thing roadworthy I reckon it'll do me for life being 63 now, happy days. 11. You can put your own value of the package on reshipping label. It's not coming from a seller once its reshipped. Let's see.

  12. Well Gave the car and Cross Climates a good test today as I had to collect a birthday cake from a house in Minchinhampton near Stroud. The house we visited was in a road where it was still under about 4 inches of vrgn snow and on a slope. Car and tyres coped perfectly. These pictures were taken on Minchinhampton Common when we went to The Old Lodge for a coffee. Verdict on Cross Climates 5*

  13. Many thanks go to "Hangie" for giving me the heads-up on a website that DOES allow one to upgrade without the high expense of a formal Lexus one. Let me explain...First off I have now found the my 2014 RX450h has a HDD and the map update can only be done either via a DVD or USB stick. If you go to the site in question the charge for getting this update (1st June 2018) is $99USD, which equates to around the £78GBP mark and I can accept that versus a £250 Lexus charge. Their form asks for various bits of info plus an image of the Map Data, which gives them the abillity to generate the required key code for your Lexus. Their download consists of 5 part zip files, which when unpacked will give you a directory called "mapupdate". This directory gets loaded onto your USB stick, which was the only point of contention for me since trying to do a FAT32 format on a 64GB USB is not that straightforward and I resorted to using a [free] piece of code called "fat32format" down at the DOS level of my laptop. Once done and copied across you plug in the USB, go to Map Update on the Lexus menu and after some 90+minutes (yes it takes a long time, but you can start and stop the SUV inbetween times since it picks up from where it left off) you are presented with a brand new Lexus map update. So there it is everyone and I am one well pleased chap 🙂

  14. 14 years of owning 7 LS's, I have only just discovered that, if you pull the full beam stalk after you've switched off, the headlights will stay on for the length of time you have set. Settings in the car which you can do without any reader.

  18. I've tried loads of different 'bleed kits' without satisfactory results and called it a day with them, the best system I made up myself from the trigger part of one of those trigger spray bottles for household cleaners attaching the hose and caliper adapter to it, open the nipple and squirt into a jar, worked a treat and no spongy brake afterwards but you do need to keep an eye on the fluid level of the MC.

  19. Always check out youtube as lots of vids on repairs to LS400's. I have a spare from a 1993 Lexus but don't know if it works. PM me if interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OgjAv5aUi4

  20. Done. 133 USD shipping to Oregan where the reshipper is based and is tax free. Then they'll let me know when it arrives and I'll pay them about 300 to forward to me in Ireland. Significantly cheaper.

  25. They do indeed make mats but they are not cheap - but then again, what ever is from Lexus? They do a very good, heavy-duty rubber mat set for somewhere around £110. Luckily, the previous owner of our car had already bought them so we got them with the car, but they're well worth the money. Have a look here at their official eBay store

  26. Yes, its amazing how easy it is to get disorientated. Mind you a few drivers this morning drove me nuts. One decided that she didn't want to turn off the road into a car park to wait for someone she was picking up, and promptly parked her car in the middle of the main road through town at some pedestrian lights blocking the road for everyone else. A brainless family, led by "dad" then stepped out 20ft in front of us without looking (they were only 20 yds from the same pedestrian crossing!) and I thought for a moment even at 10mph, I was going to lock up and take them all out as they looked around and just stood there! A few choice words of advice were given! Another parked across the turning into where we live to make a phone call, engine running, and partially blocked the whole turning. Some people shouldn't be allowed out behind the wheel this weather. Roads are seldom so bad (unless it's hard packed ice) that it prevents a competent driver getting about here in the South West. It's always the drivers who haven't a clue how to drive in these conditions that cause the problems. If they lack that much confidence or are that inept then they shouldn't be out and about creating unnecessary hazards for those who are competent and careful.

  28. I have just installed a GROM VLine V2 infotainment system into my IS250 to bring it bang upto date ie with Apps like Google Maps (with Voice input) and Spotify. while I had the centre consul trim off I took the car for a spin to ensure all was working fine ( sat nav etc) and noticed that if the connections to the rear of the centre consul are disconnected then the seat blowers are constantly flat out and when connected they behave! So I suggest that you remove centre consul trim ( very easy job!) and check that the black connector is securely in the seat heater switch module. Connector is shown at 0:47 in this Video paul m.

  30. Sorry for the very late reply, I eventually gave up with this as I realised the Sills were rotten so the car was not worth fixing anyway, But really appreciate the replies and advice! Ended up buying an EP3 as a temporary car, but have now bought an Is200 Sport as I missed my Lexus! Just scared to touch the breaks when they will need attention in the future considering how badly it ended up with my old Lexus haha!

  31. Just to add my view: I have purchased a 2012 RX450h with 161,000 miles in May 2018 for £11,500 and drove it about 9K by now. So 170,000 and nothing wrong with the car. Amazing reliability. When I purchase it, there was one company owner from new with all Lexus stamps and services. I just test drive it a bit and call Lexus from the stamps to confirm they have serviced the car. As soon as they confirmed that, I have purchased it( from a small independent dealer in Surrey, where I live). I am writing this to let people know these large engine cars with 2 electrical motors can do a lot of miles and they are great cars. A friend of mine is a mechanic and he told me the hybrid gets a lot of help on a stop start traffic from the electrical engines. They help the petrol engine with the start, when the most torque is required and that does not stress the petrol engine. If you have not decided on a car yet and are even considering anything else, please go to your local Lexus and just test drive one. All the best. Hope in a few years time, I would be able to announce the 200,000 miles and more after that. Happy driving

  33. Another possible cause can be due to pushing the caliper pistons back without releasing the bleed nipple, this can result in turned seals in the master cylinder. If you have access to a pressure bleed kit this may also be beneficial as the fluid is forced through ensuring all the air is removed.

  34. 04493-53010 is the part code for the master cylinder kit - not sure what is included.
