  2. After my RX failed the MOT on the strut top bearings, my local garage spoke to lexus and they do not sell just this part you have to buy the whole new strut !!!!! £750 each !! So after spending some time on Google I found an advert on eBay and eventually spoke to this guy who was able to replace just the bearings for me at a reasonable £60 each The business name is orchard engineering and the contact number is 07901712988 Just thought I'd pass on the good news to other RX owners 🙂

  3. I switched from Yokohama to Cross Climates and they transformed the car. I definitely recommend them. I did have issues with availability, but the tyres were very new at the time, at least in NX size. Incidentally, the best price I got was from my local Lexus dealer.

  4. I noticed that there are a few topics on here relating to tyres for the NX. I've done 28,000 miles now on the original Yokohamas so decided I had better start doing some research. The consensus seems to be that the Michelin Cross Climates are a sound choice but I had a slight panic as availability seemed to be an issue for some forum members. I went down to my local ATS and they said that they could get the tyres that I wanted tomorrow and as there is a deal on they would be £150 per tyre. If you look on the website you could be forgiven for thinking that Michelin doesn't do a tyre for the NX as everything is listed except those. I'll be getting four cross climates fitted next week. There is loads of life on the rears which is a shame but I will be happier with some decent tyres

  5. Hi all, I purchased 1995 M plate, LS400 about 6 months ago as a project, as it hadnt ran for 3 years, it was garaged though, it wouldnt start so I had to have the immobilizer bypassed, and a new battery, it then started first time, then MOT passed with just a number plate light out, which they sorted for me. I drove down the road feeling like a king never had I been in such a smooth quiet car, amazing. previous best car was my 7 series beamer loved that too, but, this just felt better to drive. First job 4 new tyres, balanced and tracked.Next timing belt water pump and pulleys, then a new altenator as it failed and a service on the power steering pump, I then started to get a strange thing happening after start up from cold, I pull away and the speedo starts to bounce around, 40, 70, 120 allsorts, this must give the transmission mixed messages and the car does not know what gear it supposed to be in, or its like something has damp in it as I drive it for 15 to 30 mins and all of a sudden it clears and drives lovely again, so I found the post on here with ref to the ECU and sent away to america for the correct resistors and had them all replaced, car was then great for a few weeks, now its back, and its every time i leave the car standing for a day or so. I have now checked the wires in the boot hinge and all seems to be ok, I am at my witts end with it, has anybody had the same things go wrong for them as I cant find any of the same symptoms on the net or other forums, other things that happen are the radio lights are out but after 30 minutes or so they come on when lights are used and the ECT ( Ithink) light flashes not often but now and again. any ideas anybody please Many thanks Phil

  6. Had a good look around a lovely metallic Green with cream leather UX Takumi spec in Lexus Newcastle showroom this afternoon. Paint was lovely, cream leather a nightmare to keep clean for me. Nice to see the final production ones in the flesh, not too different to the pre-production ones seen last year. Boot probably still too small for me, but interested in how it drives. Test drives offered from next weekend.

  7. ps, and yes Herbie, the fuse box cover does not now fit so into the glove box it has gone he heh

  8. Just to sign off this thread and give my thanks to Herbie for his sound advice and guidance; fitting is now complete and all is working. I used my noggin instead of a multi meter (a high risk approach lol) So tested what equipment would still work with ignition off, and found that the fuel cap opener is a constant live, 12v power sockets inside are not. So piggy backed the permanent live on the fuel cap opener fuse and the switched live on the power sockets fuse. Unit is earthed at the oem earth point behind the passenger side kick panel and all good to go. Will post a few pics tomorrow in case they help others. Removing the entire glovebox assembly took only 5 mins and gave me full access to the fuses and earth point, so very worthwhile. Michael

  9. So just realised its been a whike since i updated this! Not much done really life has took over and been flipped 180 so this had had to go on the back burner! Anyway ive managed to finish the fuel lines and also installed a sytec fuel pressure gauge on the FPR Also managed to make the oil feed for the turbo aswell, used -4 braided ptfe hose andfittings all from viper performance. managed to neatly run it around the engine and down to the mishimoto sandwich plate. All the fluids are in and next up is the battery relocation. Once that is done i can sort out the vac lines and turn the engine over to get the oil round. Few more things i need to do before i can fire it up on the base cal. Also if any of you guys are on instagram, give me a follow on there, i post things on there pretty much as soon as they are done 👍 lexus_turbo_2jz

  10. I would agree with Dan, There is only one word that sums up Lexus and that is quality. I was speaking with my dealer recently, the day I signed up for my ES and noted that he said service work was a bit scarce at the moment and he can't remember the last time the workshop carried out a warranty repair. Reliability has become my most important reason for having Lexus number 3. There is a Youtube channel called Hoovies, a lad in the US who often buys the cheapest versions of all sorts of cars and a lot of European cars. All of his BMW's were pure money pits, along with the Bentley's and gave up on putting them right as the faults were too numerous. He bought a one owner 1993 Lexus ES300 for $200 with 135,000 miles and manual gearbox and had not been driven for years as the owner was put in to a nursing home. Apart from flat tyres this thing was blathered in bird muck but it started at the turn of the key and everything electrical worked. Nothing made up in the video, no hype or careful editing. After he cleaned it the car was transformed and he kept it. $400 for 4 new tyres and the $200 it cost was all his outlay. Watch it just for the fun of it. The point is of course if that had been a 1993 BMW 5 series the dash board would have been lit up like a xmas tree with fault lights. Lexus know they build cars that are superior in every way but will always battle with the badge snobbery of owning a German car that exists all around the world. In 1997 I had a BMW 3 series from new for 3 years and it had 9 warranty claims. I look forward to the day the keys of my ES are handed over and I travel the 115 miles back home.

  13. The standard spark plugs are fine - the LPG conversion does not need anything special. I did nearly 200K on LPG in a 430. The flash lube system is a waste of time - you don't need it. Keep the LPG system well maintained and don't let any Muppets near it. Keep an eye on the compression and look out for any rumbles - a loose spark plug on mine caused a burnt out valve. This resulted in low compression and low speed rough running. A V7 was the result and a 265K 15 year old car is not worth fixing at that point. A mechanic forgot to nip up the plugs during a service - number 6 must have been looser than the others......... To be fair the old crate had done its duty and owed me nothing. I miss the old beast but I don't miss fettling it all the time :). The new hateful object is awesome - get in, press the break, press the start button and go.

  14. We had Crossclimate+ on our V70, and I have them on my Nissan Leaf also. They are a SUPERB tyre. They are supremely quiet, extraordinary in the wet and capable in the snow with a good ride compliance. Wear life is excellent. Downsides? The wet weather performance comes at a rolling resistance cost - slight in the dry, but significant in the wet (and really noticeable as a range impact on the Leaf) - expect to lose a bit on mpg in the wet. They occasionally "sing" when they hit a particular type of road surface, make a peculiar "squirming" or "rustling" noise in dry/hot conditions (but you'll only notice with windows open) and have a slightly unpredictable side-slip behaviour (noticeable in wet/snow on significant cambers (meaning about 20-30% camber) at very low speed. If you are a Costco member then there are often deals on sets of crossclimates there - I got £60 off the set for my Leaf. Other manufacturers are starting to catch up, with strong offerings now from Continental (Allseasoncontact) and Bridgestone (A005). However, the Crossclimate remains a superbly strong choice. Our GS450h will be getting a set when the current tyres wear down (but it came on a brand-new set of P Zero Nero GT, so not binning them!).

  17. The TPMS warning light flashes orange for a few moments and then stays on permanent orange if there is a system fault. It shows red for a tyre pressure fault thus differentiating between the modes.

  18. Yes, if you could confirm that NX seats with lumbar support were acceptable, it may well be possible to retrofit the higher spec seat in your NX as it already has electric seats. This would be much less expensive than a whole car swap. The seat covers come off and could be switched over so you wouldn't have an issue with colour matching the interior.

  19. If you can get a MK4 in my view always a better bet. The only thing I liked about hte Mk3 of the 4 is the fog lights are better, other than that a 108,000 Mk4 will just be nicely run in, and in theory the suspension is another 50K to 80K off needing an over-haul.

  22. My 2018 NX Premier only has 2-way on the drivers seat, nothing for the passenger although I still find them very comfortable. However, one of the (many) reasons for ordering an ES Takumi is for the 4-way lumbar for both front seats and drivers seat thigh extension which is very long. It comes up behind my knees and pushes them up. For me, the seats are very comfortable and cosseting. Still stands that a luxury car should have some lumbar adjustment for the driver, at least.

  23. Same part number (69130-50060) from 2001-2006 so same part used, £25.00 is a good price considering nearly $650.00 for a new one. Fitting is fairly easy on the rear doors.

  25. Intermittent electrical faults are the worst. The basics for me would be to check all the earth points. You've already checked the wiring around the ECU housing. How do the solder joints look on the ECU? I'd also check the wiring around the alternator and put one of those volt meters in the cigarette lighter and see if you have steady voltage whilst driving. I'd also examine the battery connectors for loose wires/ corrosion. Finally, I'd test voltage at the battery when cranking cold. Could be low voltage in a start from cold causing an ECU glitch.

  26. Those look great Les, freshen up the whole vehicle 😎 I've had issues with corrosion affecting tyre pressures but it was on various older rims (talking 15-20 year old) so hopefully shouldn't be an issue for most of us. A 'proper' refurbishment of the alloys in question sorted them.

  28. Yes, I think they suit it well, perhaps better than how they were originally. Even though they're both 15-spoke style, they differ from those on my Luxury. The central spoke on your wheels is more pronounced.

  35. Hi Robert, The red or the black one? I bought my GS from Lexus Sidcup. Nice chaps but the car wasn't prepared very well when I first collected it. It took a bit of back and forth and another extended stay at the dealers for the car to be sorted. The after sales guys were excellent though and got it all fixed with the minimum of fuss. If the wheels have been refurbed then make sure it is a decent job. The finish was shockingly bad on mine, but the dealer agreed to let me get them re-done at a place of my choosing and they paid for it. Actually, since the GS uses 4 pot fixed calipers, they don't suffer the same seizing problems as earlier cars. Also, I haven't really noticed any complaints about shock absorbers either. One thing you can do is get someone to listen to the engine when you first start it up from cold. They all seem to rattle on startup, but if it is bad then it might be worth get it checked. As far as I can tell it is not actually a serious problem, but if it is there you might as well get the dealer to have a look. It is also hard to hear from inside the car, hence needing to listen from the outside. If it a Premier or F-Sport model it should have the 356mm 'floating' brake discs. Make sure these are in good condition since they are quite a bit more expensive to replace then the ones on the rest of the range. Lastly, you are correct, the exhaust is hidden behind the bumper. Superb cars though, so definitely worth considering the change. Hope this helps

  38. So its been a while.... got more bits done then fuel system is almost complete apart from 2 small line to the rail. I will let the pics do the talking.... so there she is in all her glory.... using a walbro 450lph pump, -8AN feed into a "Y" block then 2 -6AN feeds to each end of the rail. A -6ANfron the rail to the AEM fuel pressure regulator. -6AN return from the pressure regulator to the tank. Injectors are deatschwerks 1200cc.

  39. So carrying on with the fuel system stuff i gave the tank a good clean off as it was out and it came up pretty well! I will be giving that heat shield a spray too once its all back in. Then pulled the hanger out and stripped it down to have a look at what will need cutting and chopping to make it work. Took a quick snap to compare the walbro 450lph and the standard pump! Next up was to mark up and drill the holes in the top of the hanger for the bulkhead fittings. The return line then had to be hooked up to the SARD jet pump killer, allowing me to use the full tank capacity pulling fuel from the other side. This replaces the stock syphon jet. The take off pipe facing down on the left it what connects to the rubber hose in the tank to pull the fuel. You can also see in this pic that the pump is fitted too. This had to be removed again and i had to trim the plastic at the bottom of the hole to move the pump up higher, when refitting the hanger it was sitting too high not allowing the retainer to go back on. I then had to cut the steel retaining plate that holds the hanger down the accomodate the new fittings. I found this very tricky and its a little rough around the edges, a bit of paint and its looking alot better. Dont know why i stressed about it though because its under the back seats 😂. Still more to do on the pump, i have got to get some fuel resistant conmectors and covers for the pump plug wires. Once thats done i can have a good look at the tank breather system and mock up the lines to the tank.

  40. Will the standard tank hold enough fuel to keep this baby on the circuit for more than 20 laps or should you consider a bigger fuel tank?
    1 point
  41. So i finally have all my fuel system parts .... And today i made a start, 1st up was to remove the fuel tank....... easy. Covered all the holes to stop the smell of fuel taking over, tomorrows job is to drain the tank and pull the pump out and see whats got to be done. Atlast i have plenty parts to crack on with this build!

  42. So ive managed to finish off the bottom mounts for the intercooler so now it is pretty much solid and also managed to fit the new power steering cooler. Just waiting on the other cross support for the top of the intercooler. all i had to do for the steering cooler was bend the pipes up at the correct angle and shorten the original hoses. Just need to get a couple of support clips to hold it in place now. Also had this turn up..... Just waiting on a couple of more fittings to come and i will then have all my parts ready to make a complete fuel system. So more updates to come.

  44. Nobody said - insurers would have "problem" insuring Japanese import... but the price would not be the same. Edit: Obviously, insurance price for me is mental either way, but I reckon the difference would be the same. But I honestly though there would be much higher difference, but ~10% is not that bad, as well considering imported car is cheaper to tax. Both identical policies for imported vs. UK car. One other thing I noticed - UK car automatically gets valued at £13500, whereas import was £7669. So I guess ... good luck agreeing value on import. _______________________
