  1. Scuse the pointless post but no-one else will understand how ridiculously excited I am to be picking up my RX400h on Monday! My first ever Lexus although at this point anything would be better than my Peugeot! 😃

  2. I thought that this thread was about a new Lexus model at first. 😊

  3. Over the last ten days we have driven the NC500 Highlands road trip starting at Inverness and travelling anti clockwise via John O’Groats, Kylesku, Torridon and the renowned Bealach na Ba. On Thursday we return to the start at Inverness for completion of the 500 ish mile trip. All done in our 2006 RX350 with 96k miles. The car has run perfectly, and proved a good choice for some of the tougher trails, including snow above 2000 feet yesterday on the Bealach na Bar! As it is a 350 we won’t mention mpg now will we.....but a smooth and reliable drive was what we wanted and why we stuck with a (veteran) Lexus. Here’s some pics, one taken yesterday at 2000ft as we went to the aid of a couple stuck at the top of Bealach na Bar in a snowstorm with a puncture on their BMW touring bike, plus a gratuitous shot of just one of many beautiful highland vistas we we fortunate to come across during our NC500 trip.

  6. Latest info, ran around the country lanes last night in the vain hope of getting some charge into the battery. Checked it this morning before starting it, 10.45 volts, still started fine. I have the full service history from new, so, checked through it all and there is no record of a battery being fitted. As I thought it is the original battery from 2007. Visited Lexus, Newcastle today and have arranged to have a new battery fitted tomorrow. Price? They said £84 + free fitting, can't get any better service than that. 😀

  7. A tip from the plastic model world If you can take it off, dip it in this stuff: http://www.scalemodelguide.com/hints-tips/general/using-klear-floor-varnish/ . There are plenty of online tutorials of how to get a good finish

  8. Make sure you take it for a good testdrive to see if you like it, I went from a 430 to a 460 and really didn't like the car... the 430 (and400) drive like a Mercedes, IMHO the 460 is totally different and drives like a BMW... nothing wrong with it but the ethos of the car is totally different and won't suit everyone... Watch this video of my 460 with a worn strut, do this test on all four corners WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, it should be like the first side I bounced... The front two were gone as well, this, along with electrical issues with the display and the fact I didn't like driving it led me to sell it on... So just make sure you like driving it....

  9. Wow, Thank you all for your comprehensive replies, I'm staggered by the response. Thank you also to ambermarine for the link to a most useful site. I will now email both the original site, and the site recommended by ambermarine and ask if they can tell me the date of manufacture of their Falken tyres, and if I don't like the answer that I get I will choose an alternative from the ones recommended here. Many thanks again for all your help.

  13. Hi everyone, i am looking about getting back into the lexus fold, i have had my BMW V8 fun and the 650I is no longer going to be practical enough due work relocating later in the year and needing to get estate or SUV as i will need the load space. Shame Lexus doesn't make a large estate car, but they make the RX hybrid, what is great as i don't need to go down the diesel route??? I haven't actually been to see and sit in one yet. But i have alway admired them, when i see one. I have seen a few that i am tempted to go look at, there is a 400h SE at a Lexus Ipswich what is only 45 miles away up around 8K with 120k on the clock, this seems to be expensive considering the miles? But it is a used Lexus approved car. There are a couple other for around that price with fewer miles say 80k at an independent dealers or i can cough up an extra 2k and get one from Lexus with those kind of miles and SE-L trim. The other question is, is it worth trying to get 450h over a 400h? Pro and cons for either would be good cheers.

  14. I recently bought a 2014 Luxury, following five weeks when I had a 2014 Advance, slightly older and with higher mileage (although still fairly low) but I exchanged it as I found some problems which I was surprised to see on an approved model from a Lexus dealer. The exhaust had suffered some damage and an undertray had been scraped then secured with cable ties, making me question about how it had been looked after (that car is now for sale at an independent dealer). In day-to-day use a Luxury doesn't appear to lose anything from the Advance. LED headlights are probably the main thing, but the standard ones are still good. Advance has a different bumper and wheels, all a matter of taste. A lot of Luxury models seem to be upgraded with under-run trays front and rear and roof-rails, again up to you whether you like them or not - I'm happy without them on mine. The Advance I had was solid Velvet Black, which looks to be difficult to keep clean and it certainly shows swirl marks from polishing. Metallic Celestial Black seems to be a bit more forgiving, as I imagine would be any of the lighter shades. My Advance had a panoramic roof. It may be coincidence, or perhaps down to tyres, but I think the Luxury without it drives more tightly. A little more headroom too. A sunroof would have been nice, and is probably the best compromise. I only saw a stamped service book on mine, but I think any dealer can print off the previous history. I personally didn't bother with any checks beyond what the Lexus dealer does, but I wish I'd looked at the first one a bit more closely myself before I agreed to buy it.....

  16. It will be a 2012 face-lift model RX450h for me when I find the right one. I don't want to hijack this thread but this might be of use to the OP as well as me and other potential purchasers. I would like some pointers when buying. I will buy from a Lexus dealer so will get the warranty and I will also get the once-a-year hybrid check to extend the hybrid warranty. What else to do/look for when buying? 1. RAC Vehicle Check. Basic, Comprehensive or Advanced (mainly to check that the vehicle hasn't had any serious accident damage) 2. Check has full service record. (Just stamps in book OR insist on invoices?) 3. Check M.O.T. History. 4. Would you accept the word of the Lexus dealer that they've done an outstanding finance check or would you pay to do your own? 5. I'm looking for a 'Luxury' but would consider an 'Advanced' which comes with either a Sun Roof or Pan Roof but I think I read somewhere that these are susceptible to cracking if a substantial stone hits them and also potential for water leaks and creaking as not as rigid as full metal roof. All comments and suggestions welcome on the 5 points above plus any other advice. Many thanks as always.

  17. I travelled from Newcastle where I was working and living at the time, to Leicester in a hire car as my LS400 had been written off. Agreed to buy it and travelled back to pick it up the following weekend before returning to West Sussex. I put a £200.00 deposit on it to hold it and could have had it move from Leicester to Newcastle but decided against that as wanted to have chance to see other vehicles .I looked at an older RX350 but wasn't too impressed but did buy the first 450 I saw, after scouring the country for possible cars.

  18. I've used the AG kit before (drill, pads, polish, all that) but recently tried the ArmorAll headlight restorer from Halfords on my 9-5. The lenses were yellow when I collected it. Two wipes and a sealant. Amazing difference and thoroughly recommended.

  19. Make sure you let us know how you get on with the headlight refurbishment. Need to do the same on one of our other cars (2005 Mini Cooper), but I have not yet been brave enough to start it. Welcome Kris.

  21. Sorry for not updating sooner. After a few delays I've received the parts today, when I've placed the order they weren't in stock ( not sure how ), had to wait a bit longer but got the delivery for free. I've used megazip, they were quite cheap to be honest. https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dlya/toyota/bracket-sub-assy-lwr-arm-no-1-4807524010 https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dlya/toyota/bracket-sub-assy-lwr-arm-no-2-4807624010 Hopefully will get to fit them in the weekend and will update soon.

  22. Took delivery of my UX Thursday (From Bristol). In Sonic Titanium with Premium pack. Very pleased, major improvement on my CT200h. So quiet and refined. Plenty space for us (also in our 70's!!).

  23. That (~14K miles) is about what I got from my last rear pads - EBC Ultimax. I've replaced them with EBC Redstuff (I use Redstuff on the front - they produce very little dust and what does get deposited wipes away easily as Redstuff contain no metal - they are ceramic - the only pads which don't deposit metal particles which eat into the paint/lacquer of the wheels). They are a bit expensive though. But worth it for their excellent braking and fade resistance (once they are bedded in). I once posted that I was going to use Yellowstuff at my (then) next pad change, but then I found that they contain metal. As I said, Redstuff are the only ones (of any make) that don't

  24. I'll send you a message with my location and an idea of when I'm free. Jumpingjehovahs on here (who I knew through another forum) kindly did the same for me before I got my RX, it was very useful. Ipswich are my nearest dealership and I found them to be very helpful there, but they didn't have the right car even amongst their other branches. It's quite useful that they currently have both a 400 and 450 at present, so you can make a side-by-side comparison. I ended up travelling 100+ miles down to Kent for mine and had been considering a trip up to Bradford.
