My IS 250 had it's first MOT today since I took ownership of the car, and with the Vland rear lights fitted, I know a few of you were interested to see if the car would pass with the rear lights fitted, well I i am pleased to say the car passed with no advisories or issues, I am really pleased, the MOT tester also commented on clean the car is, which is good to know, just need to get the few bits that Lexus have flagged up and the car should be 100%. So if you are thinking of getting the Vland rear lights, go for it!!!

  4. Sensible informed folk go for the isf. Folk who just want an m3 get an m3. When I looked into them they were just a. Money pit. Before issues you needed an engine inspection for some sort of standard failure that escapes me now. Brake lines need replacing and better discs and pads as stock ones fade very quickly when driven hard. Throttle actuators both will eventually break and so it goes on...

  6. So in September last year I became the proud owner of a 2008 IS250, I love the car, it is a joy to drive and puts a smile on my face every time I travel in it. Over the last few months I have set about modifying and replacing parts here and there, so this is a description of what I have done so far Replaced all the LED's in the interior, going to replace the door mirror puddle bulbs when the weather is a little warmer Replaced the boot gas struts as they were on the way out Installed the Vland rear lights, what a difference they make to the car, brings the rear end bang up to date Replaced the door puddle lights with LED Lexus logo Finally, I had my interior trim pieces hydro dipped from the red/brown look to a black woodgrain the film is "Lexus woodgrain" which is supposed to be based on the modern Lexus cars, I really like the look it has given the car, it goes nicely with the black leather and trim, I have attached a few pictures of some of the work, let me know what you think.

  7. Lexus never provide 0-60 times, it is always 0-62mph (100 km/h). That may not sound a big difference but a car capable of 0-60 in 6.0 seconds would need another 0.2 seconds to get to 62 mph if acceleration was linear, which it isn't and would actually need > 0.2 seconds extra.

  9. M3s and M5s aren't the only ones, Porsche Boxsters and the 911s, even the AMG C63 6.2 has issues (head bolts). All great cars but you need to sink ££££s into them under the guise of corrective or preemptive maintenance. The ISFs/GSFs and RCFs appear immune here, almost boringly so by comparison. Recently after seeing a couple of lovely and cheap (relatively) 997.1 Porsches and after reminding myself of all the associated engine concerns and checks, I remembered how if feels not to have a monthly engine fund, or a list of the next several preemptive jobs that would be needed to prevent my engine from eating itself during a morning commute. Sometimes I miss having an M car, but I don't miss the bills.

  10. Ah the wheels were only sent to me as an example of the concave profile they are not satin bronze, I've always liked that open look but only if you have decent sized discs behind them. I remember going to a car show and some American car had 22 inch wheels and the discs behind were the size of saucers, I pointed it out and laughed and just about everyone else thought it hilarious too. They are forged so will be strong enough despite not looking it.

  11. I've managed to find some wheels that I like, they are Vossens 10 spoke concave as per the photo's. I've settled for 20 inch in satin bronze. So next will be the exhaust then perhaps a supercharger then I'll sell it!

  12. Just been watching the total devastation caused to a family by some moron using his phone whilst driving. I see that at the moment the penalty is 6 points on your licence plus a £200.00 fine. How laughable is that!!!! The 6 points should stay but the fine should be £1000.00 along with a 6 month ban. If you lose your job......tough, they know the score. And finally.............put the phone through a crusher. We are way too soft in this country as regards anti-social behaviour. If you can't live by the rules, you've no place in it. I really do dread what the future holds for our children.

I take your point but I've always run a few cars at the same time, and having done trackdays for about 30 odd years now I have concluded personally that there are cars you buy for the road and cars you buy for the track. Having said that you have run an Evora which along with the Boxster S i owned are two of the very limited number of cars for sensible money that can do both very well. I just think for Lexus to make the RCF a good trackday car it will take more than what they seem to have done to it, but I remain on the fence until a few decent drivers have taken it around a few tracks. But my conclusion still remains the same, buy a decent late RCF and a good track oriented car for the price of one track edition RCF. I still think manufacturers and salesman who push ceramic brakes for customers to use on a car for track use are just after money/commission because most people I have met on trackdays who have a car with them fitted as standard have taken their ceramic discs off stored them carefully away and bought steel replacements. OK unsprung weight is a factor but as I'm not a driving God I hadn't really noticed much difference in the handling but did appreciate being able to brake harder and later and never boiling my brakes. But all this would be worthless if you chip them on track by landing up in the kitty litter.

  15. Not sure what people don’t get? Yes it appeals to a small audience but it appeals. I love cars like this. You can drive them to a track, European road trips Nd them to Sainsbury. All with having room for kids in the back and golf clubs in the boot. If track days do invalidate warranty that would surprise me and would be daft. As for the car and what it offers I think it’s superb.

  16. I thought the same about mine. Sound was distorted but the foam appeared all OK. But the foam had detached from the outer rim which was not immediately obvious when I first looked so worth checking. Regards Andy

  18. I'm exactly the same, 2 IS's, UX too small, didn't like the ES or NX drive, rest too expensive. I think it is still a few years till the EV range develops enough, the charging issues are improved and the early adopters iron out the teething troubles. Polestar2 and Tesla Model 3 could be future ones for me. As a result, for now I've gone left field and I've bought an Alfa Romeo......

  19. Nice weight saving at 65kg. Would be good if the gearbox could be mapped but I would be more interested in if the engine can be mapped to get the more torque lower in the rev range like these cars. That would be awesome and genuine real world benefit.

  22. You don't need to remove the door card to see if the po-40 is installed as you should see it (if one is fitted) below the electric window switch control panel. Removing this panel will save you time and a whole lot of effort. I cant remember how the switch panel comes off - pretty sure it is levered out but cant remember (getting too old) Maybe someone can shed some light - its only a 5 minute job to check so better to do this than the whole door card to be honest .... just saying

  24. I'll bear that in mind, but I have to say at this point I'm normally looking to see what I fancy next and in all honesty my Mini Clubvan and the RCF don't seem to have bored me in any way. Although I did say this about my CL65 at the six month stage and that I'd probably keep it longer than 12 months in fact it lasted 14 months which was sort of a record.

  25. Well a week or so later and I have made up my mind...... It is going to be the NX Premier. I found the RX a bit daunting in size and felt it would be an absolute devil to park in tight multi storey car parks. It is gorgeous though and so wide inside, or so it felt. So after a few days humming and haa-ing and after test drives, I plumped for the NX. My son in law has the F Sport version, so I knew the interior was going to be good. It was nice to see one with a few more bells and whistles on it though 😂 Getting in and out of the NX was easy too, which was my main self-afflicted gripe over the IS we currently have. It will be a shame to say goodbye to the IS because it is a lovely car to drive, just a bummer getting out of it at my age, old fart that I am 😜 We collect the NX on Friday. It is a 66 plate in Mercury Grey, with about 38k miles on it. The interior looks great, no sagging seats or marked interior despite the higher than normal mileage. Looks like I will have to change my nom de plume on here now 😊 Thanks for all the comments and suggestions too, they did help.

  28. I always felt that if the seat was correct, then the steering wheel was an inch or two to far away. Not enough adjustment in the wheel position. Stuck with it for two years then changed to an RX, much better.

  30. Here's my reply to a pretty much identical question a month or so ago: In my experience, this sort of feeling etc is due to wear in the joints in the tie rods at the inner end. See the drawing which is, hopefully, attached. People have heard of track rod ends - that's the short bit that screws on to the tie rod. It has a ball joint which often wears, but if bushes etc have been checked these may be OK. But see the inner end - there's a joint where the tie rod screws onto the steering rack, covered by a gaiter. (NB - tie rod, track rod - same thing) I am not sure just how easily accessible the gaiter is on our cars - you may need to remove the under tray. But if you grip the gaiter with your hand and get someone to turn the steering wheel slightly, you may be able to feel obvious movement within the joint. The tie rods are easily replaced and shouldn't cost too much. (Relatively - no Lexus parts are actually cheap!) This wear is caused, IMHO, by turning the steering wheel when the car is stationary. In the days before we had power steering you almost never did this because it was too hard to turn the wheel. But power steering is very powerful so the wheel is easy to turn. Go to any high street or car park and you see people doing it all the time. It puts enormous stresses on the tie rod joints , both inner and outer ends. Don't do it, folks - make sure the car is moving, even if only slightly, when turning the steering wheel.

  31. I've only ever used regular unleaded and zero additives .............. now 215k miles young .............. if in another 215k miles summat fails I'll just know I'm not doing it right I'll let you all know Malc

  32. There is no 'issue'. Toyota could easily of integrated that feature, but they have chosen not to. They talk about wanting to be in control of the user experience, rather than Apple, Google or Amazon, but fail to realise their product becomes further and further behind state of the art. They wish to cling to a business model of charging £2k for an infotainment system, and having majority ownership of Denso and Aisin, who make major parts of those systems, are doubly affected by moving away from such a model. They have relented in the US, I'm guessing because Apple has a greater presence there and CarPlay is an option on all their competitors vehicles, but not in Europe - which use different infotainment systems. I think they have misjudged the market. There are many people who now would choose their vehicle to suit their phone and lifestyle, rather than the other way around of old and they will lose marketshare because of their decisions.
