  1. Update on Takumi now getting 53mpg doing around town and motorways done over 6000 miles since getting the car last week of jan 😱 the auto function on seats is awesome as mine has heated and cooled seats and it senses temp in car and puts them on for you if car hot puts cooled on and vice versa I am armchair driver so the comfort is great, I do i lot of miles for work and get out after loads of miles feeling great. The power is enough for me not a speed freak but its quick for overtaking the adaptive cruise works brill even slowing down and stopping at juctions then setting off on its own all i can say still having lexus orgasm every time i drive it 😂😱 vince

  2. "...cost nothing to own..." Count me in! (I assume this promise is unwritten by Autocar?)

  3. That's right, unfortunately what you describe is normal on an 09+ car. The OEM bushes are actually glued in place, sandwiched between the 2 aluminium pieces. You'll have to somehow cut or dremel the old ones off, leaving the mounts and ARB free of any remnants before the new ones can be fitted.

  4. Yes, crook locks always a good idea. I’ve had my steel red one for years and I use it every time I park up

  5. Not so much, no. Certainly no more than any other luxury car but to put a bit of context on it, I keep the keys in a Faraday Pouch and I also use a steering wheel lock, both of which I would use on any car so I'm not specifically bothered about having the RX stolen. Don't get me wrong though. As much as I love my car and it's my pride and joy and yes, I do take those precautions, if any thug broke into the house looking for the keys and threatening violence, I would tie a red ribbon on them and present them nicely to said thug - not worth getting beaten up over a lump of metal that the insurance will replace. And although it's not pretty, I stand by my assumption that prevention is better than cure and deterrent is the most important thing. Hopefully that bright yellow steering lock will make any ne'r-do-wells think it's not worth the hassle and move on to an easier target.

  6. I agree. If I am leaving it somewhere like an airport for a few days, I use a steering wheel lock, but otherwise I don't worry unduly.

  7. The "grandad" profile of Lexus will ensure that no young joy rider will bother with one. ☺️

  8. Scum will take what they want, I don't think an RX is in their hit list of flash fast motors, so I don't give a sod

  9. All the GS450h's from 2006 on has them this is why they are so expensive. I did some research on this, and I am sure the shocks from the GS350 will fit at about £70 each so that would be a better alternative, but you would still loose the adaptive feature. John.

  10. Yes, tether either as WiFi or Bluetooth hotspot. The e-store doesn't function yet, if it ever will.

  11. Agree and in my head when i was typing the lexus/Toyota scenario was in my head. If you slapped a Toyota badge on an RC-f and moved it away from Lexus it would sell a lot less. Asking 5k for a seiko is a hell of a brand image barrier to overcome, especially when the same brand offers watches for 100 as well.

  12. Stick them on ebay or something for a like £50 each they'll probably go fairly quick

  13. I'd love a Seiko Arctura Kinetic watch... but not yet sure which model to go for. Quite like the SNL045P1 and the 5M42, but there are so many variants.

  14. I consistently get 50-55mpg average between winter and summer, and even had almost 60mpg on good motorway runs. I've been told from the dealership this is exceptional, but I had a CT before and spent 3 years mastering how to get the most out of the hybrid propulsion system. It takes time, you need to change your style of driving quite a lot, but 50+ all year around is possible in the IS300h, and this quite a bit above the new WLTP figures (which are too conservative IMO). I was even getting 65-68mpg average on my CT towards the end of ownership. The IS in my opinion is an exceptional vehicle, and best Lexus hybrid in terms of performance, fun, economy, features and price, it's a great car and so underrated! I speak to people at work with Audi A4s, BMW 3s and they're lucky if they get even high 30s. Yes, those Audis and BMWs are slightly faster, but they rarely use that extra power, and personally I'd take much better fuel economy over 1sec more 0-60 any day of the week. My tips for hybrid driving, - Take your foot of the accelerator as early as possible and try to glide to a natural stop. If you need to use the break, just feather it as gently as possible. This will maximise regen. - Use pulse and glide as much as possible. You can glide on the battery alone up to about 45mph in the IS. - Use gravity as much as possible to charge the battery. - Don't labour up to speed, actually better to change to sport mode, get up to speed quickly and then use cruise control. More fun that way too! - Use cruise control as much as possible at speeds above 50. I find below 50 then cruise control seems to use the battery less often than it could and holds the revs a little higher than needed. - Try to stay in the EV power band as much as possible when driving around town (the thick blur bar after charge) and squeeze everything out of the battery you can. - Only use EV mode combined with ECO mode. This will avoid jumping out of EV mode. Also, only use EV mode when you have a full battery and you know the roads you're using it in. - And the more general rules for driving, don't accelerate up hill, save your accelerations for declines and try to stay at a constant speed (again use cruise control) - Keep the car as light as possible, this also helps with gliding to a stop and maximise regen. Follow these rules and I guarantee you will get close to 50mpg average, if not more. Hope that helps :)

  16. No surprise to me that the ISF comes into Autocar magazine's list of depreciation busting performance cars. But Shhhh just don't tell everyone !! "There are certain performance cars on the second-hand market that are so well-regarded – and that are in sufficient demand – that their values are set in stone. Pick the right one and it’ll probably owe you nothing two or three years down the road. You could get back every penny you paid for it". "post-2011 IS Fs still command £25,000, while the earliest cars are trading hands for around £18,000. It’s unlikely they’ll slip much further" "IS F is exceptionally rare, which is exactly what will keep values strong in years to come." Well we knew that I guess but it's what Autocar think too, and its certainly more fun than keeping the keeping the money in the bank! I just need to wait until the RC F reaches a similar status before I raid the bank again https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/features/beating-depreciation-performance-cars-cost-nothing-own

  17. Prices for ISF's are definitely creeping up. When I sold mine last year there were a few around £15K.

  18. Grand Seiko do incredible watches BUT have really ramped up the price at this years basel world. Some GS watches now at 10k ish and Seiko watches with the spring drive movement at 5k!!! Yes it had the spring drive movement and great case and bracelet work but it’s a bloody Seiko! They need to jeep seiko and GS separate from a branding perspective. Also they need more smaller sports watches as they are all a bit beefy.

  20. You should be able to see if the bushes need changing, they are viewable with just a bit of jacking up. If they are well worn you will have a similar feel to warped discs, a pulsating pedal... If they look like this they will need changing... FYI, I change brake fluid every three years and coolant at 5 years, makes me feel better....!!

  21. Oh yes. A late 60s Universal Geneve today. There must be some Grand Seikos on here, as the obvious Lexus equivalent from the world of horology?! Closest I get is this one...

  25. I am afraid once the 12 volt battery is discharged you cannot get the car into neutral meaning the front wheels are locked! Apart from re- instating the 12 volt supply there is no way to get the car out of park. John.

  26. One to put a smile on our faces........As an ex SC430 owner still looking for an opportunity (and cash!) to return to the fold I keep a lazy eye on autotrader to see what pops up. The Lexus Dealer in Hatfield has a gorgeous 2004 SC with only 31500 miles up for £12950, a not insignificant price but look at some of the things you get: Optitron instruments, adaptive front lighting/AFS, LED rear lights and Bluetooth......... link to ad below Except you don’t get any of these because the car is 2004 and the above only came with the facelift car in 05/06. They even include a photo of the instrument panel which proves the car doesn’t have an Optitron panel. Lexus Hatfield also describe their SC as a ‘Sports Coupe’, which is the first time I’ve seen that phrase and the SC put together. Should they be told......? I guess someone will pay that price, but I hope they check the spec first. Lexus Hatfield

  27. Main dealers do try their luck and to a degree get a good result...someone will buy it just because they trust a dealership over an independent or private sale. my car was from a main dealer and was young enough to get a year Lexus warranty and I made good use of it 😉

  28. Always advantageous to have the car up to warm and operating temperature before the test. Emissions are usually higher if not up to operating temperature.

  29. More dribble about ride quality 🙈 Rear tyre wear. Really? It’s not bad at all, and I used to spank mine. IS-F, an excellent car. And it doesn’t suffer from some of the issues associated with the RC-F.
