  2. I noticed the coin tray was open today and found it didn’t latch when pushed back in. Pulled it completely out and discovered the plastic latch has broken so the hooked end was missing hence the problem. Fortunately the broken piece was still there sitting in the aperture. Not going to find one of these easily so took it to pieces, araldited the broken part back on and then plastic welded with a couple of bits of stiff wire to reinforce. Put it all back together, refitted and hey presto fixed .....hopefully this will now last another 25 years!

  4. The very first post in this forum will answer Q3, there's a link to a PDF file listing the various trim levels and what they have. I purposely avoided the Premier because I didn't want air suspension for the same reasons. I had a test drive in an F Sport and didn't like the stiffer suspension but I do have a back problem, you may find it better. I went for a late 2013 (63 plate) Advance and I love it. The Advance is in between the Premier and the Luxury. One thing I can say is that you won't be disappointed whatever you choose.

  9. On the 400h, disconnecting the battery can cause issues with the idle speed of the engine and it not shutting down to go into EV mode. If this happens there is an ISC learning procedure that has to be performed. Therefore I'd not recommend disconnecting the battery without good reason. Not an issue on the RX450h though.

  10. Well... After 2 new knock sensors ( had both done ) and a related wiring loom, and had the plugs done whilst my engine was disembowelled, and about 400+ miles later, all sees fixed. Fingers crossed. Not cheap but I feel worth it. Love my car.

  11. You are confusing the pre and post facelift models. Pre-facelift - SE, SE-I, SE-L, SE-L Premier. Then at a later date the Advance based on SE-I - essentially a limited edition to boost sales. facelift - SE, Luxury, F Sport, Premier. Then at a later date the Advanced based on Luxury, and further revised a year later with additional equipment. The following has this in detail:

  12. Advance is basically Luxury spec with led headlights, Mark Levinson sound system plus panoramic fixed roof or sunroof. Also has different wheels which are lacquered. If you buy an Advance check the lacquer coating on the wheels. Lexus just refurbed my wheels as a goodwill gesture. See if you can get a longer warranty factored into the deal. My car is a 2015 and unbelievably comfortable. I have just bought another 2 years Lexus Warranty which is well worth the cost.

  14. Hi All I've had my IS300h for 3.5 years under a company car lease scheme. I thought I'd post a quick review of my own observations. Having had a stream of German cars for many years I changed to the Lexus IS300h advance. Driving an auto and hybrid was a major change for me but after a few months I was very happy with my choice. The car still feels fresh as it did on day one with no fade in performance or handling. In my view, the car is the intelligent mans choice for a changing landscape with anti diesel rhetoric and ULEZ about to be rolled out. I will most likely stick with the Lexus brand as build and overall quality are my main criteria. Well done Lexus for building such a great car. My next car is likely to be another IS300h or the ES300h. Nick

  15. I have had a few years away from the Lexus brand, and been in both Mercedes and Audi. About 6 months ago we swapped my wifes car from an Merc E350 Coupe to the NX and she loves it. Having had it about 6 months I have really enjoyed having a Lexus again and have now swapped my current Audi A7 to a RX 450H F Sport. Have been looking for a while for a nice spec / mileage / cared for example and ended up at Lexus Derby again (3rd car from them ). A beautiful white F sport with Pan roof and HUD, and only a curb rash on an alloy wheel which they already had booked in to do. Pick it up next week and looking forward to many years happy motoring again.

  23. As far as I know it doesn't "improve economy" but simply relearns your driving style. If you've been driving it like you stole it for a month or two your economy will be right down so if you reset it and then drive like Miss Daisy, the system will learn that style so your economy will be better.

  24. As Phil says, a multimeter would be a great asset to have for things like this. Take off and clean both battery clamps, also take off and clean both ends of the battery to body earth strap and the engine to body earth strap (and also the other end of the battery +ve cable) and make sure to tighten them properly when replacing. If that doesn't sort it, you really need a multimeter.

  26. Having spent all my working life as first a maintenance electrician, then a maintenance telephone engineer on BT and now repairing computers for a living, I can say that there are no shortcuts to fault-finding. You need to do the hard work and diagnose things properly - on the upside it does give you a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside when you find and fix the fault. There are plenty of Youtube videos out there on how to find a parasitic drain, this is just one of them:

  27. Glad it is now okay. P0330 is typically a knock sensor fault rather than wiring or ECU so you shouldn't have any more issues.

  28. Thanks for that, the PDF attachment was particularly useful as I had mistakenly assumed the Advance was below the luxury as a reviews published list prices that indicated the Advance was priced as the SE-I: Lexus RX 2009-2015 prices and specsPrices And Specs Name 0-62mph Top speed CO2 MPG Price Advance Pan Roof 7.80secs 124mph 145g/km 44.80mpg £47 540 Advance Sunroof 7.80secs 124mph 145g/km 44.80mpg £47 540 SE 7.90secs 124mph 145g/km 44.80mpg £43 665 SE Navi 7.90secs 124mph 145g/km 44.80mpg £45 740 SE-I 7.90secs 124mph 145g/km 44.80mpg £47 540 SE-L 7.90secs 124mph 145g/km 44.80mpg £53 240 SE-L Premier 7.90secs 124mph 145g/km 44.80mpg £60 190 I thought the SE-L was the luxury, which is priced above the SE-I which is the same price as the Advance. I was just confused by the review sites the attached brochure confirms that the Advance builds on the Luxury. rx.pdf

  29. Replying to an old thread but I had this problem when opening rear door from outside. There was a setting in the System menu on HUD where unlocking car will keep rear doors locked. I had to make sure it was disabled so when i press the remote to unlock the car, it would unlock the front AND BACK doors.

  30. I also washed it today, did the final rinse with water butt water to avoid hard water marks and removed the original Japanese breakdown flare just in case it got picked up at the Eurotunnel in two weeks time as we begin our drive to Austria. Oh yes, I also polished the headlight plastic so now they sparkle!

  34. Did you clean both wires? You cannot really test it with a meter, and as you say it won't be 'faulty' as you would get MAF error codes. It needs to be something on the intake side though, if it isn't an exhaust leak, to cause both banks to have an issue - air leak, poor metering etc.

  37. The sensor wire is a loop of wire that goes against the pad. When the pad wears down the wires is also worn away, becomes open circuit, and triggers the warning light. If your pads are worn to the point of illuminating the warning light then the sensor is damaged and needs to be replaced. If you are replacing pads early then the existing sensors can be reused - this is providing a different design isn't required because of different pad manufacturer - which I doubt as they would just use the OEM pads as a design template. Or you can just forget about the sensor wires and short out the circuit at the connector and waterproof to stop the warning light coming on.

  38. With the windows, press and hold the down button until the window stops at the bottom, but keep holding the switch for a couple of seconds after it hits the bottom. Then lift and hold the switch to lift the window and keep holding the switch for a couple of seconds after the window hits the top. Repeat for each window. Now the sunroof. Pull and hold the switch back to open the sunroof and keep holding it for a couple of seconds after it hits the back position. The push and hold the switch forward to close the sunroof and hold it for a couple of seconds after it closes. The sunroof should be reset. The tilt switch shouldn't need reesetting. If you get any nasty noises like slipping cogs, release the switch immediately and sort the cause of the noise.

  39. LC500...I think...but the kids would complain as the rear seats are ridiculously compromised...but they’re not paying, so F*** ‘em. I think it’s just a more arresting looking car. Don’t get me wrong, my car gets looks - lots of them. But an LC500 in the wild, makes every other car look ludicrously crude - like a concept car has somehow escaped.

  41. I think I'd have to try one first, I like the look of the car but don't like the wheels and of course it would have to be the V8. Just to add on principle I don't buy new cars due to loosing so much money, much better to buy nearly new with anything apart from vans of course.
