  4. They’re not to bad new from Lexus although why some are around £10.00 and others £30.00 I don’t know. Pick your colour from the list.

  5. I went to Chantmarle for my continuation course in 1975. Building I recollect is supposed to be well haunted. I did my initial course at RAF Dishforth as Chantmarle was full. A long trip from Gloucestershire in the winter for 10 weeks in those days 😬

  8. Hi All I've had my IS300h for 3.5 years under a company car lease scheme. I thought I'd post a quick review of my own observations. Having had a stream of German cars for many years I changed to the Lexus IS300h advance. Driving an auto and hybrid was a major change for me but after a few months I was very happy with my choice. The car still feels fresh as it did on day one with no fade in performance or handling. In my view, the car is the intelligent mans choice for a changing landscape with anti diesel rhetoric and ULEZ about to be rolled out. I will most likely stick with the Lexus brand as build and overall quality are my main criteria. Well done Lexus for building such a great car. My next car is likely to be another IS300h or the ES300h. Nick

  9. +1 It will auto lock if you unlock the vehicle and don't open a door within 30 seconds. Otherwise there is no auto lock feature that I'm aware of. However if there is such a feature then is the courtesy light working when you open the passenger door? Could be the door sensor not working correctly.

  11. I bought a 2014 Advance earlier this year, but exchanged it under the terms of the Lexus policy as I think a previous owner had attempted to do what you do in your Land Rover, judging from the state of underside. This was on an approved car from a Lexus dealer, so do still check carefully. I then got a 2014 Luxury, so I can compare them on the basis of recent experience. My conclusion is that the differences aren't worth worrying about - I didn't feel short-changed in getting the slightly lower-spec Luxury, to me condition was more important. The Advance was the version with 7-spoke wheels and normal stereo, not Mark Levinson. As such, the only significant difference was that it had LED headlights which I now lack. It had a panoramic roof which my Luxury doesn't have, I can happily live without it. At 6'3" you might find a headroom issue, but I didn't at 6'0". A lot of Luxury models seem to have what I think they call the design pack, with front and rear undertrays. Mine seems to be relatively unusual in not having them. My Luxury has the metallic celestial black paint, which I don't find too bad to keep clean and easier than the solid black paint on the Advance which showed up scratches and swirl marks very easily. My ideal would have been the dark metallic blue, but it's difficult to be too choosy. I knew I didn't want white (which rules out a lot of those for sale) and I don't think I could keep the cream interior clean enough so I was happy that mine was black inside. I would have happily considered an F-Sport if the right car at the right price had been available, on the basis of a test drive I took I didn't think the ride felt significantly firmer. They have a dark headlining so without a sunroof or panoramic roof they can feel a bit gloomier inside. Whether you like the look of them or not with their mesh grilles and other sporty bits is down to personal taste but they do have some useful toys like the LED lights, M/L stereo and HUD - the latter probably quite useful in a car which is quiet and easy to exceed the speed limit in. Advance seems to be the most common variant of the 2014/15 models currently for sale on AutoTrader.

  14. I agree, as you say the market just doesn't seem to be there for modified cars regardless of how much work has gone into them. A chap I know has supercharged his Golf R, it is a work of art under the bonnet and he has spent a fortune on it but will never see his money back. This car looks superb and if I were in the market for one would snap it up. I have to admit I've toyed with the idea of supercharging the RCF but on my current form I'd probably put it up for sale a few months after doing it and that would be really stupid.

  16. Well done guys, four fine looking cars there. Even more disappointed now as it looked a top day out from all the photo's and vids. That said my pride and joy spent the weekend on a ramp at Lexus Derby after a spectacular MOT fail on Friday lunchtime , so would have missed out anyway. I hope to be reunited with the old girl before the week is out.

  20. Apologies for my late reply, I've been running a Lexus RX300, 04 Plate on LPG since 2008. 21k miles when I converted it at a cost of £1500** Prin LPG system + flash lube , (80ltrs under carriage LPG tank), Its been very economical running this car. and its been trouble free, My view is if you want to convert any car make sure its at least 4 years old (newish) so you can keep it for long to recoupe the cost of conversion. Converting a 13 years old car to LPG is waste of time and money... I understand the case of accident and insurance have to pay you off, in that the investment is lost............ but hmmmmmmmmmm everything come with its own risk Its been a very good experience for me and I’m planning to do a new conversion soon on a 2014 Rx 450h using the same company medway dual fuel Their service was outstanding and Ill recommend them A full LPG tank give me 350 miles on motorwayand about 280 miles urban

  22. It looks great, I like black, though my wife hates white cars, so will be any colour but white,I had an Audi A6 with a banana yellow leather interior, it looked great, but was needing cleaned regularly. and I learned from one waxed cotton jacket experience.... I have had a few cars with sunroofs and never used them, my current Landrover was the worst: though fitted with a cheap basic sunroof: it irritated me so much,i changed the roof: lucky they just bolt on. I would not intend subjecting an RX to what my Landrover does though, i have rebuilt the Landrover on a galvanised chassis with a galvanised bulkhead, so intend keeping it for some time ( I have had it for 13 years): i have fancied an RX for years, but never driven one. I have been getting chemo for the last 4 months and get my last session tomorrow, so will head back to the dealers in a few weeks when i am over the last session for a test drive 0 - though based on reputation and reviews I am pretty sure it will be an RX. The wife likes the look of the NX, I was not keen on it, she said I looked cramped in the drivers seat - so will try an NX too, though I prefer larger cars.

  23. For the last 30 years all of my cars have had a sunroof and I've never opened a single one of them, preferring instead to let the aircon (and latterly the climate control) do it's job. I've also never had a leak from any of them either - maybe they only get leaky with use! I love the Celestial Black and Ivory colour combo of our car. Yes, a nightmare to keep clean but well worth it. Any passenger attempting to get in with a wax jacket would be asked to remove it first 😉 Here's my pride and joy:

  24. Do not ffs disconnect the 12v battery. To reset you have to get Lexus to do it. Disconnecting battery will upset all the settings

  25. I am puzzled by this as I did not think that any Lexus had such a feature, and certainly not one of your vintage. By default, if your car is locked and you then unlock it, if none of the doors are open within a minute or so the car will lock itself again... but that's the limits of the standard system. Could it be that this was an aftermarket add on? Is your car an import?

  26. My old RX400h had a sunroof. Never really used it. I found that, when open, it increased the noise level, but did not really make that much of a difference to the airflow, especially in the front seats. I found it much better to rely on the climate control to cool the car. The following RX450h had neither, and I missed the additional light provided by the sunroof. Current NX has a (fixed) panoramic roof. The whole family loves it, especially because of its size. Lets plenty of light in the car. Rear passengers get the most out of it, and enjoy being able to see out. When it is sunny and/or hot, there is an electric blind to shade the inside. No issue with headroom in the NX. When visiting the dealers, if you find a car with a pan-roof, sit in the back and see...

  27. Register on the Lexus-Tech.EU site and you can input VIN and get vehicle spec "This service provides a comprehensive list of vehicle features and specification. Details are specific to each vehicle. You will need the vehicle identification number (VIN) to activate the service. Please refer to the Vehicle Identification (Click here) for assistance in locating your vehicle VIN." https://www.lexus-tech.eu/default.aspx

  28. Tell me any genuine part that is! Much better to spend that sort of money on a vehicle you've had for a while and that you're familiar with than giving up and buying something else that could be a Pandora's box!

  29. They did the same to me in the 80's...Chantmarle...for the record I was presented with a Bronze Medallion which apparently was the flagship award for life saving. Simply having a PTI not drowning me was worthy of a medal in itself. Nice vid @Cezar B

  31. Yes I would buy Lexus again because having owned the German brands they are streets behind on customer service, build quality and reliability.

  32. On the 400h, disconnecting the battery can cause issues with the idle speed of the engine and it not shutting down to go into EV mode. If this happens there is an ISC learning procedure that has to be performed. Therefore I'd not recommend disconnecting the battery without good reason. Not an issue on the RX450h though.

  35. The later model is certainly an improved version worth having for the additional cost but the earlier SC is still a good car. 6 speed box, AFS lights, LED rear lights, new style wheels, improved suspension and updated driver aids are the main things.
    1 point
  36. In 2003 the suspension was revised to improve ride and the runflat tyres were replaced with conventional ones. In 2005 the suspension was revised again to improve body roll and steering response. I prefer the look of the 2006 facelift models plus you get the better performance of the 6 speed transmission. I'd try and get as young a model as you can. What do you mean by hand-built? Sheets of medal rolled into body panels - no. Production of the SC started in 2001, so I doubt there was a major production line change after just 12 months but I'm sure things were more automated as time went on.

  41. I can just imagine your spiel to the elderly gent... "Yeah, they're all right the old Lexus, but not a patch on an Audi. Do you read Autocar?. Yeah, I'd be doing you a service taking off your hands, and you know, the problem with these old cars, they can be a death-trap. Do you have grand-kids? Yeah, and accidents can happen. They do happen, at any time. I'd hate for you to get hurt. Or the grand-kids. And one night, who knows, 'Whoomf!', there it goes, up in smoke. Anyway, have a think about it, take care now. There's a lot of dangerous people out there..." 😁

  42. From experience of trying to add other items to my 300h I would say that there will not be a loom there so you can just plug and play. The premium nav set up came with an amp as well that was hidden in the rights hand side rear wing, of there was any wiring that’s where it would be. Picking up a feed from the read doors does sound like a workable solution and there will be plenty of live feeds in the boot, the only thing you may have to run to the stereo is a remote switching lead so as the amp knows when the stereo is on Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  43. Firstly, why does it matter? Drive the car that suites your needs and makes you happy :) I'm 31 and drive a GS450h SE-L (equivalent to the "Premier" back in the day). I bought it because it's quick, unconventional, and looks good. On the other hand, my dad is 61 and he's awaiting delivery of a 370Z (with a manual gearbox). To most people, we should be driving each other's car just because of our so-called "age group", but instead we drive the car that suits our individual tastes (and budget) :)
