  1. Hi all, Just a quick update to say that the GS went in for its first service in my ownership today and came out with a clean bill of health. The only advisory was that the rear tyres are at about 3mm, so will need replacing soon. I have been quoted £120 + VAT each for Michelin's by the dealer. So, after 8 months and 8000 trouble free miles, I can say that it is still just as brilliant as when I bought it. I was actually surprised when I realised it had been this long, but the car is so effortless that it is understandable. As usual, Lexus Reading were great from start to finish. Michael and Sue were just as nice and helpful as ever, and how's this for care and attention: When I checked the service book I saw that someone had put on a post it note to stop the ink smearing the opposite page before it had dried. As you can see from the empty boxes, this isn't something all dealers consider. It is a small thing, and I wouldn't have particularly minded if it had made a mark, but I was impressed that someone took the time to consider such a small thing.

  3. Worked out the problem, removed the the side mirror assembly as I wanted to check everything, removed the mirror and CAREFULLY removed the gear box for inspection. Opened up the gear box and stripped it down to find that one of the 2 plastic gears was broken. Took the gear to a graphical designer I know who recreated it within his 3D software, it's now printing on his Prusa i3. I'll collect it this evening and refit everything, fingers crossed 🙂

Whilst I understand what you are meaning, having gone through all the emotions of trying to find faults before they occur, and asking my Indie what will require future work, I came to the conclusion to just “ enjoy” Each time I asked the question I was told nothing needed doing. They are complex beasts, but also extremely well constructed and reliable, so I do not think any check on a Lexus is invaluable, because if you just service them properly any fault will become obvious. When a fault does occur there are generally signs to then have them fixed. I am still coming to terms like us all probably that theses vehicles just go on and on. The only thing they must have is regular servicing , and as I read recently the LS was built to achieve 250,000 miles. So..........Enjoy

  8. All Lexus models have direct TPMS with valve wheel sensors, but that doesn't mean you will get individual readings - only a warning if one drops 20% below the pressure set when calibrated. I believe only the Premier grade on the GS is able to show the individual pressures on pre-face lift vehicles. All grades have the feature on the facelift models (2016 onwards).

Also please note...honeycombed or any background design on plates is a instant fail on mot.... i know my SC failed for having lexus wording thru plate in background not really visible till up close but still a fail, had to get new plates made up, but just threw them straight into boot once pass on mot and drove away with orginal plates still on scottish flag was ok and no makers website or address or bsua number on plate but was ok just the background design

  10. So many differing posts on this thread. It really is quite simple. You're buying the right to use that registration. Not the physical plates. Easiest way to do it is... go to Plates For Cars and order your plates. I just get standard GB/Euro plates. No borders, no fonts, no spacing, none of that. Then you're all set When you get your paperwork from DVLA (still by post? really? 2019?) then you can go to the GOV.UK site and do the whole transfer online phone your insurance company and tell them about the swap stick the plates on Job done.

  14. There are two types of tyre pressure monitoring systems, direct and indirect. Direct - each wheel has a sensor that measures pressure and transmits this to the car. Lexus models differ in how this is displayed. Some display individual pressures for each wheel. Others only have a warning lamp that illuminates should one or more tyres dip below a threshold pressure. This can be a very sensitive system, generally alerting at ~10% deviation Indirect - the car uses the ABS sensors to monitor wheel revolutions, should one or more wheels show a significant increase in rpm the system assumes one or more tyres are deflating, thereby reducing the rolling circumference. The system will illuminate a warning lamp. A crude system alerting at ~25% deviation As posted above all cars after 2012 must have some form of TPMS

  15. Tyre pressure monitoring is compulsory on all cars from 2012, and an MOT failure if not operating correctly from 2014. My 2007 GS450H MK3 has this as standard John.

  16. Just a quick update. if your not in too much of a hurry, it can be a very efficient machine. Just driven from st Albans to Newport South Wales so 150 miles or so. Quite a bit of roadworks so stretches of 50mph and apart from that travelling 65-70mph Wonder what I would do on the 17inch wheels?

  17. Sounds like the gearing has siezed. Take the glass out and strip it down to see what's going on - if you're lucky it'll just need some lubrication.

  19. Have you thought about a Celsior? There are a few out there and you'll get low mileage and a generally rust free underbelly! You'll also more likely to get one well maintained.

This forum helped me choose my CT. All professional reviews were awful until I read the real (owners') reviews. Every year Lexus win the owners' awards. It's only these polls that count.

  21. I'm in! (R129 SL) Just one thought on your first 430. Finding an independent specialist is very worthwhile for your maintenance. It is a complex beast, and a guy who knows where the potential problems are and checks them out for you is invaluable.

  22. When you get that letter, that will be the certificate showing you own the plate. Fill you car details in and send it off. You'll get a new V5C amended with your new reg. In the mean time you can get your physical plates ordered ready to swap over when the new V5C comes through.

  23. THE FOLLOWING INFO RELATES TO THE RX400H, NOT THE 450 I've part-done mine. Haven't bothered with the year interior light (yet). Didn't buy a kit, but bought individually. Worth doing IMHO. But now that the "reading/map lights" end up with a blueish tint, down to the light cover... Main courtesy light still shines white. But the email title says 28mm festoon... So two more of the above festoon bulbs will probably be right. Also, my hunch is that the rear courtesy light will be the same, but I haven't looked yet. The festoons are polarity sensitive, but you just take them out and insert the other way if they don't work. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING WHATSOEVER EVEN IF IT'S MY FAULT 😊

  24. I have changed my battery and disconnected it on several occasions. It does not cause any significant issues. Reset your power windows/moon roof if applicable instructions in car manual. Then if you wish to do so perform ISC learning to maximise fuel efficiency. Lexus service team do not need to be involved unless you wish them to be. Cheers

I found the solution 🙂 really stupid fault 🤣 it was the small connector plug that went to the Starter - when they changed it they damaged the plug so it doesnt secure any more - when i was removing the throttle body i guess i pulled it out cause its on the same harness. THANKS ALOT FOR ALL THE HELP AND TIPPS 🙂 So now i check if i have a broken headgasket it looks like thats the case cause my co2 tester liquid changed the color when i tested it on the expansion tank - common problem on these diesel engines as i read?   29. Many decades ago on an ancient Renault we had the problem of the starter motor not turning. Just silence. The local garage said the problem was that it was coming to rest at a kind of neutral position where the magnetic coils couldn't get it turning. Their recommendation was to hit it with a hammer. This worked every time. We carried the hammer in the car for this purpose for quite a while. (Please note: - I'm not recommending you hit your car with a hammer!)

  31. When you mention that the previous owner replaced the starter a few months ago, this makes me suspicious, did he fit a new motor or reconditioned? Did he do a competent job, I'd be looking at the connections to the motor. You mentioned a 2-3 second to start time, this is not normal either, I'd be looking closer at the starter motor with your symptoms.

  32. I would check current at the starter. Do you hear the starter solenoid click when you turn the key to crank the engine?

  33. I thought that if the throttle body is removed, the ECU detects the change and would need a reset before it starts. If you've removed the battery overnight, this will force an ECU reset so you should be good to go in the morning.

  34. Well done guys, four fine looking cars there. Even more disappointed now as it looked a top day out from all the photo's and vids. That said my pride and joy spent the weekend on a ramp at Lexus Derby after a spectacular MOT fail on Friday lunchtime , so would have missed out anyway. I hope to be reunited with the old girl before the week is out.
