  1. Afternoon All, On the off chance anyone is interested in my car, the current auction on eBay is due to end on Saturday at lunchtime. Bidding has reached just over £18k, and for those interested, the reserve is set at £21k. Provided the reserve is met before the end of the auction, car WILL be sold to the highest bidder. I don’t intend to pull the ad early, as I’ve had a couple of time wasters already. Highly doubt anything like this will come up again anytime soon, so please do get in touch if you have any questions. I’ll be sad to see it go, but hopefully someone out there can get more use out of it than I can and will love it as much as I do. Appreciate any help spreading the word or pointing this out to any potential buyers they come across. Thanks all, Pete

  2. I don't mind if a car quicker than mine. Just learn to drive it, not to annoy people on the road. Lexus is a Luxury-Sport car or not sport, just let's say, Sporty in general. Capable of better performance than the avg, which is totally enough when you're doing some takeover. If you want to do some race etc, then yup, go for AMG or whatever. I had the opportunity to drive and sit in a BMW and Audi, but it's not my "style". I would never change the "Lexus-feeling" for them. Of course, I'm always looking for the better performance, because if I have to push the gas, I want my car to move. Also, not to mention the consumption, comfort.. They say, the CVT have unusual loud sound, which is annoying. I guess it's depending on your taste. For me it's okay, but when I'm going for a long trip to visit my family, it's priceless with the hybrid while I'm cruising. Going with 80-90 mph, and I can whisper, everybody will hear it, because maximum what I can hear it's the music or the front wind or the tires sound.. I also saw/hear, you can't feel the car on the road, or in roundabouts, not sharp as the Audi or BMW. Again, depends on your taste. I enjoy how the car is acting in situations, and it is sharp. Previously I had IS250.. That car is also gave this "Lexus-feeling" or joy on the roads which is being the reason why I decided to buy the 300h. No, I'm not here to praise the Lexus, :) but this is the only brand (so far) where I totally enjoy the driving.

  3. If you are looking at spending that amount of money, get on ebay right now and buy Pete's supercharged ISF and you will have the best car that this amount of money can buy. That is all. 😎

  4. My understanding is that the paintwork should have been warranted by the insurer's approved bodyshop. I would certainly fight this issue on the basis that they repaired it. The issue is nothing to do with Lexus and I would certainly buy another. I had a very bad experience with insurance company repairers on an is300h and learned that I would insist in future on repairs by a Lexus approved bodyshop. As an aside it might be worth speaking to your local chipsaway repairer. My guy in Gloucester (Stuart) does superb work in his workshop and they could probably deal with this for a lot less money than a bodyshop. They fully warranty the work for as long as you own the car. I see you are not too far away and Gloucester chipsaway is only across the Road from Gloucester Docks and outlet centre. Sure that could be fixed in a day at a very reasonable cost.

  5. My RX450H is 9 years old and has covered almost 100,000 miles. It’s paint is, with the exception of swirl marks, as good as it left the factory. The bumpers haven’t peeled, even where I’ve got a bit close to a wall... Sounds to me, like an insurance company being an insurance company and talking a load of nonsense. 8. Hi All I've had my IS300h for 3.5 years under a company car lease scheme. I thought I'd post a quick review of my own observations. Having had a stream of German cars for many years I changed to the Lexus IS300h advance. Driving an auto and hybrid was a major change for me but after a few months I was very happy with my choice. The car still feels fresh as it did on day one with no fade in performance or handling. In my view, the car is the intelligent mans choice for a changing landscape with anti diesel rhetoric and ULEZ about to be rolled out. I will most likely stick with the Lexus brand as build and overall quality are my main criteria. Well done Lexus for building such a great car. My next car is likely to be another IS300h or the ES300h. Nick

  9. I replaced the screen myself, cost £100 and was an original part.... £2750! What a rip off! Just shows that Lexus employ part replacement technicians who don't have a clue of how to save the customer money!

  13. Did you ever tell us what the reg is or is that all part of the suspense? Personally, if my name was Vlad I'd be going with IMP4LER or something. Clearly just playing at it if you don't

  15. It's not so difficult but does take a while to work out where all of the fixings are. Skip to 15 minutes in and there are some pictures that will help you or jump to the end and it's obvious where the big thread is with more detail. There's also a mini version of it in the LOC project section here. Good luck.

  16. You know am no fan of the power delivery on the IS300H, in particular the throttle lag. Our other car gets to 60 in sub 5 seconds, and my previous car could pull up to 150mph at the same rate as RS6. So am use to some 'quick' cars, but to call the IS 'slow' compared to other small saloons is just silly. The IS300H was designed to be comfortable motorway muncher, offer reliability and good fuel economy. On all those fronts it does a fab job. Yes there are quicker cars, but there always is....Unless you go buy a Tesla P100D Model S ;). But for day to day use the IS300H is more than quick enough, and if your after pure driving engagement why would you buy a Lexus in the first place?

  18. My ex had a vw polo bought new. Someone cut the fabric sunroof with a knife. Car repaired by insurance companies repairers but upon return roof didn't function car went back, but was a very long time in bodyw A few months later I noticed the bonnet had changed colour further inspection revealed over spray, signs of filler and missing stone chip repairs. Insurance company engineer insisted the car had been repaired and that it was factory paint. Complained to the insurers and they arranged for their chief engineer to inspect car at vw bodyshop. Before he arrived the bodyshop manager without close inspection said the car had clearly been damaged and repaired without our knowledge. Insurers forced to agree an VW bodyshop refinished front of car to proper standard

  19. Thanks for reply. Turns out that if you remove the sat. Nav. Unit from the boot, you will lose sound from the drivers door speaker as the sat. Nav. voice runs through it. Splicing 2 of the wires will sort it.

  20. i think you got it spot on... Lexus pitches Luxury first in terms of how the car rides and sounds before out and out performance.. its not like parent company Toyota does not have the know how to build a raw sports sedan.. but that's not the primary philosophy of the Lexus brand.. its nature is to go about its business on the road in a smooth nature with the 3 kept to a minimum i.e Noise Vibration and harshness and i think most compare it with an M sport 3 series BMW and expect it to deliver the same driving feel.. BMW's and Audi's are performance first luxury second and Lexus the other way round. Yes they are all categorised as premium/Luxury brands but are built slightly different in terms of philosophy... to be honest i think Lexus builds premium cars and set it up to the level they know most people will enjoy spending time in up to 90% of the time in terms of Noise, vibration, harshness... the occasional blast and mind blowing handling of a BMW is impressive around corners but how many times does one subject this type of driving to their daily day to day driving to warrant a permanent harsh ride?? Lexus wins in NVH and a drive setup which makes sense for 'real world' daily driving if you ask me...

  22. No MOT concerns, so I wouldn’t worry there. It’s more around the vast array of tailpipe shapes to choose from, and the noise you want. I loved the extra V8 burble on mine with a custom setup, but that’s not for everyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  23. Not sure where this £5K difference is coming from... A 318d is a thing and the cheapest 3-series diesel - 318d SE (manual) at £32,455. Meanwhile, the cheapest IS300h is £31,900. Spec an auto box on the BMW and it's £2K more than a Lexus. 320i SE is better comparison IMO. Only £500 difference, plus has petrol engine and automatic gearbox.

  24. Thomas very nice! Congratulations! I was wondering how black color will look with smoked wheels color and I like it, I was thinking to refurb at some point my alloy wheels and may be change the color from standard silver to similar to yours. Do you know the name of the color on your wheels by any chance? Thank you and enjoy!

  26. It makes total sense considering 1. there is 100% tax on cars in China and 2. MOT inspection isn't really a thing. So you could get RC-F for £120k or you could get IS200t for £60k and the engine for another £10k - leaves healthy £50 to make it fit. I am really tempted to do it with RC300h and fit it with 2GR-FXE (the engine it deserves)... sadly for me money is the object and after all calculations it is simply cheaper to get RC-F... and MOT is a thing as well.

  27. The best performance is obtained by having the transmission in auto mode and letting the CVT keep the engine at a constant rpm at the peak power - which is 6,000 rpm. The torque curve is flat between 4,200 and 5,400 rpm so try and keep to at least above 4,200 if in manual mode.

  31. So, I've had an interesting weekend... I'm really happy with the car so far. A little sad to see the S3 go as I'd had it from new but it was the right decision I think. Got a good feel for the car having to drive it down to Edinburgh for the warranty check and then back home. Car passed the checks with no issues, warranty is in place now and all is good. Had a fantastic drive back home, weather was amazing (showing 26 degrees) and the roads largely clear. Got to stretch her legs and test my favourite bit - the point from 4k revs. It's like a different car... almost like the induction is in the cabin with me! I love the smoothness of the ride and near seamless change of the gearbox. There's a noticeable weight difference to the S3 but that was to be expected, however once you pick up speed it's quite alarming how fast you can be going without really feeling it. Very much a license loser if you're not careful. I do need to spend more time to gel with all the quirks: the sat nav is as terrible as expected, the audio is ok, it took a couple of goes to pair the phone and I've still got a load of buttons to press and see what they do. I best trawl the manual to workout all the options/gadgets, I didn't even realise it had radar cruise control... awesome! It's been chucking it down since I got home, so I'll need to give her a little clean. Upcoming jobs: she'll need tyres in the not too distant future and some attention to the stone chips on the bumper and a couple on the bonnet. I know a good place so that wont be an issue. The overall condition is a real testament to previous owner's care. A little bit on effort on my part and we'll nudge her up to 100% pristine :-) Beyond that I might fancy a nice stainless or Titanium exhaust and maybe a Wald carbon rear diffuser. A bit pie in the sky atm, none of this stuff is available in the UK and needs to come from the US or Japan. All in all it's great to be back in a V8 and I'm intrigued to see where this little adventure takes us.
