  1. How sad is that Mike. Love and Use are mutually exclusive. If you love her you must keep her or at the very least ensure that she goes into the best home possible. She looks a beauty.

  2. No it doesn't. Two engine mountings have to be removed but that's all. Not sure about the 9 hours but yes, it's one hell of a job. EDIT - forget all that as I was looking at the wrong manual but can't delete post! SECOND EDIT - now looking at the correct manual but still no mention of removing engine, only the engine mounting brackets.

  3. Hi - I have a 2008 RX400h, owned for just over a year. Best decision I ever made! I thought 10 years or 100,000 miles was the warranty on the battery but tbh the battery is rock solid. It's scare mongering. If there is a hybrid health check from Lexus, then you are fine. You can also use a specialist to repair individual cells should a problem occur, at a fraction of the price of a replacement battery. At 67k it is barely run in. Mine was 120k when I bought it and I've done 11k since without the car missing a beat. I paid £6,500, a couple of dings but good service history. Plugs change at 60k intervals so got that done (big job!) as it needed a service, the wheels are usually rubbish, mine was no different so got them refurbed properly (not painted) at £65 each, and had the bonnet front and two corners with deep scratches painted. Cam belt and water pump changed at 100k. So I got a £46k beast of a car for about £7200 and I have no regrets. I don't use Lexus as they are way too expensive for an older car, my local garage service a couple of others. Only issues I had were oxygen sensors with an electrical specialist sorted. I replaced the mass air plow sensor which probably didn't need doing as it turned out but I have the original still as a spare. The self levelling headlights don't work and is a common problem, my lights are a bit low but pass an MOT. Again, costly to replace but YouTube have videos on cleaning and replacing the springs which is usually the issue. The sensor site on the top of the rear axle on the drivers side and get full of cr*p. If your lucky they can be cleaned up. Dead easy to remove with the wheel off. I just have the front fogs on as well which is plenty for me I have had one of the four O2 sensors fail and the garage said don't get an OEM one (£60 or so) as they won't turn off the engine warning light so I had to bite the bullet and paid £193 for the Lexus one. If was smooth before it is even better now so worth the spend! So back to the battery. Toyota state the hybrid batteries in their cars are zero maintenance and are expected to last the life of the car, which is 18 years (I think). Search here for battery issues, very few. Everyone seems to worry about hybrid batteries. As a rule they are way more reliably than the engines they support! The pulling power and acceleration is breathtaking. On a journey I will sometimes turn off the music and sit in silence. Literally. No bumps, no creaks and squeaks, tiny bit of wind noise. It's surreal, feels more like flying than driving. I love it. Put 15 bags of gravel in the other day, say 30kg a bag, that's 450kg. Barely noticed it was there!! Buy it if the history is good, walk if no history. I went 200 miles to get mine. I had the car surveyed by Click Mechanic which I would highly recommend because as you say, these are very complex cars and can be expensive if they go wrong. The have a 3.3L V6 engine, it eats miles. Drive with a feather light right foot, lift of whenever you can, keep 70 and under on journeys, that way I get 34mpg in summer, 29/30mpg in winter cos the engine works the heater. Trick I do is use the heated seat instead of the heater as much as I can. Good luck!

  4. My '06 RX350se definitely has a timing chain and not a belt and this I believe applies to all RX350s. Cannot comment on 9 hours but it is a big job because of access. The engine comes out according to the manual. Mine was done under extended warranty when the engine cover was resealed after leaking oil. In the USA there has been a major issue with failure of the VVTI oil cooling pipe failing resulting in loss of the engine. The metal pipe which serves the rear bank of the V6 [coming up from the sump to the valve gear] has a short rubber section near the top and it is this which fails. Lexus at Guildford had no knowledge of this problem in this country but renewed my pipe at modest cost while the engine cover was resealed. There is plenty on this subject on the US owner's club forum but the shoddy attitude of Lexus refusing to carry out preventative work makes distressing reading. Later models have an all metal pipe.

  6. Hi from sunny Jersey I have just purchased a 2007 RX350 SE with the touchscreen Nav, which I will be collecting next week. Will most probably have loads of questions to ask which hopefully I will find the answers to on this forum. After my test drive today I noticed that the passenger speaker needs replacing, so my first question is does anyone know what size speakers the RX350 has. My other question and the most important one is that I want to replace the tape deck and cd unit with maybe a multimedia unit so that I can bluetooth audio from my iPhone, have an aux/usb socket and also get Digital radio channels but still be able to use the steering wheel controls, I have roughly £500 budget to hopefully do this, so has anybody on here ever done this and if so any suggestions on what system to go for and any links. Thank you in advance for any suggestions or tips any of you may have.

  7. this is a subjective claim as it wasn't my experience in some modern BMW, Audis and Mercs taxis i have rode in.. so we cannot go by your claim but what we can all go by is a petrol engine produces lesser vibration and thus more quieter than a similar diesel engine.. no one is disagreeing the advance tech which has closed the noise gap between the two but petrol wins. how can this not be true? what will Lexus gain by over estimating the ES's bhp figure? of course a diesel with 240 bhp will perform better but a diesel with 215bhp not so much.. we all know diesels produce ample torque at lower rpm which gives that quick feeling but then drops off as rpm climbs where as NA petrol comes alive at higher rpm this is just engine characteristics. this is all subjective as your point made on 3 was his point of view. i think a lot of people confuse initial torque delivery of diesels to mean quicker lets not forget a petrol's power delivery is very linear more so in a Lexus where you dont feel the sensation of speed until you look on the speedometer. until in gear acceleration has been tested between all four cars then we wouldn't for sure know how slow the Lexus actually is. as i said initial torque surge in diesels could give a false feeling of speed. your point made on 4 is a bit off.. why is 215 bhp not acceptable in 2019? 10 -15 years ago there were cars on the road running 300, 400 and 500 bhp's but yet still 215bhp could be found in 2.5 to 3 litre 6 cylinder premium cars. if 215 bhp were acceptable in 6 cylinder cars then even though those same manufactures had other models pushing higher horse numbers why is it not acceptable now? by whos standards is 215bhp not acceptable as again its a subjective claim based on the individual and the type of performance they are or have been used to..

  8. Thanks Matt, unfortunately it didn’t make the reserve. If anyone here is interested, I’m willing to take £20k, but needs to be a quick sale. If you can spread the word, or send anyone my way, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks guys.

  11. That pipe that Graham mentions is weeping slightly on mine, I bought a genuine one Lexus (circa £75) via Amayama and am just waiting on the opportunity to replace it. Oh and yes, it's a chain on the 2GR engine so you shouldn't need to worry about it.

  15. Clean the door seals, or add an anti creak tape on the inner seal to stop an annoying rattle that sounds like it is coming from the belt adjuster. Ground clearance is poor, avoid bad roads!

  16. I've been with Admiral quite a few times over the years, but this thread - and their renewal quote - has seen me leave this year. They tried to put up my multi-car policy by almost £200 and there had been no changes to my cars or circumstances. As in previous years they were willing to reduce the price, but I decided to go elsewhere. Having done some research on service vs price I've gone with Hastings Direct for the NX and Graham Sykes for my MINI at just over £400 for the pair, protected NCB, legal protection, enhanced hire-car (with Hastings) and breakdown cover for the MINI (as it's already included as standard on the Graham Sykes policy). I was with Graham Sykes a few years ago for my classic Mini and they are great to deal with. Now that my Cooper is 15 years old I can insure it on a 'classic' restricted mileage policy for very little and that has made a big difference.

  17. Gotta start with the basics... All wheel nuts secure are they? ( No I'm not taking the Michael, see below ) Any work done on running gear recently inc tyres? Tyre pressure all good and close inspection ( inc inner Walls) of all rubbers OK ( cuts, bulges or irregularities ) After checking all this ( no cost) then next course would be getting wheel alignment done. ( last done ??) Steering Wheel shake problem here https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/118865-ls400-steering-wheel-shaking-between-60-65mph/?tab=comments#comment-1083521 paul m. 18. Wheel out of balance, possibly a buckled rim, possibly tyre bulge/damaged from potholes. Get the wheel balancing checked and inspect the tyres. Shake through steering is usually front wheel/tyre issues could be exacerbated by suspension wear.

  20. Really need to get a 'sniff' test for hydrocarbons in the coolant done as this is going to confirm the HG failure, personally I can't see it being anything else ( hopefully wrong) and your symptoms sure do indicate a very sick engine! paul m.

  21. Hey Deron, Thanks for the kind words. It would be a steal at £21k, but not holding my breath at the moment! Really hope it does sell to a deserving owner who will cherish and enjoy it as much as I have. Didn't track it due to being too loud mate. It can be toned down by Hayward & Scott, but I didn't want to lose the awesome growl! Lol. Car would sell for more if I wanted to part it out, but that would be such a shame after all the blood, sweat and tears building it!

  22. Mines been like this for 20yrs. These plates are my originals from my first Lexus 20yrs ago. Lol......think you’d have to alter font size and style before ANPR fails to read it and/or the police are interested/concerned with it too

  23. “Personally” the ISF was the mould breaker for Lexus and as most “firsts” of anything that becomes iconic it’s normally that that will hold its premium best and future classic premium too. There isn’t much difference in engine/drivetrain. There is a big difference in interior refinement, the ISF has basically been about since 2005 on an interior aspect and things move on “obstetrically speaking”......I’ve had my ISF for four years and there still isn’t something “affordable to me” to change it for, prior to this I had an IS250-Sel for five years so I’ve been in the same car for nine years on an interior aspect. I like both the RCF and GSF but again it’s a personal matter of 2 Vs 4 doors. GSF were lowest built units but then so is the M5 and RS6.....a size market I never got my head round from manufacturers to try and master. I’d be careful with spending more as potentially you lose more upon resale, a car will only make what someone is prepared to pay. good luck with your decision, one thing I’m certain of.......whatever one you choose I’m sure you’ll be over the moon with. Paul

  25. Booked it in for new front shocks and ARB bush replace with Osaka. She wallows like a whale and shocks almost not worth being there (no leaks though) So in two weeks will give her a clean inside and out and maybe get around to repairing aerial.

  26. A massive coincidence it 'burst' on the FREE MOT test at a Lexus dealership who then charged you £1200 to rectify a leaking brake pipe. I would have been into the workshop like a racing dog to photograph and document said 'burst pipe' knowing too well they now have me as a captive audience. That said its an expensive performance vehicle and the decision to get it MOT'd and serviced by Lexus probably won't come with any short cuts, so at least you have the assurance its all been done to Lexus dealership standards. However at what stage / age do you stop taking your car to a main dealer .

  27. I don’t agree with all of that but no point debating it. As you say, ultimately it is worth what someone is willing to pay. As mentioned earlier, I hope you get a good offer chap. There is no denying it’s very well cared for 👍

  28. 'Pint of cold sick'. Where can I buy that? Sounds great! 👍😂 Can I also add that both my F's were modified. IS-F - That had a vanilla tree thingy air freshener RC-F - I put a brighter LED reversing bulb in it. Don't think it was any brighter - crap mod. 😂

  29. No need to take offence chap this is a forum where people are free to express opinions. As I stated evos and supras etc have a history of being heavily modified and are a part of jap culture. An isf in the U.K. is not. By modifying any car you limit the potential audience. By modifying an isf which is already quite niche you make it even more niche. Even people who mod cars like to put their own stamp on a car so some cars may be too modified/have the wrong modifications for their taste. I modify all my cars to a degree so get it and enjoy it but I ensure my mods are reversible or I accept they are a sunk cost. In my time here no one is deliberately trying to anger or upset anyone. If someone gets offended that’s up to them. I hope Pete sells it for a price he is happy with and as you say there may well be the perfect buyer out there.

  30. Ah ok, missed that. That’s the issue he had last time and why he isn’t on here as much any more. He is after a return on investment when that sadly isn’t the case with cars like this. With cars like this modifications are a sunk cost not reflected on the appreciation of the car. As such a modified car to this extent doesn’t add value and for many does the opposite. It’s a niche car as it is and modified even more so. Of course I wish him luck and it is a superbly well cared for car, it just needs the right buyer.

  31. If you heavily modify a car in the uk, unless it can be sold for 10k ish or it’s a porker etc it will struggle to sell. By definition modifying is changing to an owners likes/specification there by narrowing the number of people whom would share that vision. Basically mods need to be returnable to stock or be for mod heavy cars like evo’s. Just the way the UK market operates.

  32. A couple of factors for me, having owned an NX and had two RXs as long(ish) term loan cars. First, the RX is quite a bit bigger than the NX. If that isn't an issue for you then fine, but parking/manoevering and the lanes where I live made the RX more of a challenge than the NX. Second, how much older would an RX be than an NX for the same price? Is that important to you? It really is a 'drive both and make your own mind up' question. Personally I'm not sure you'll get much from forum responses as all will be opinion and your opinion may be different. Over the months on this forum I've read that the RX is pretty much as economical as an NX (which wasn't my experience), that the RX is quieter (certainly not my experience based on the F-Sport RX) and that the RX is more comfortable (again, not my experience). Go and make up your own mind based on what you think and what suits you.
