I have been to collect my SC today, and after a 210 mile drive home, I have to say I am impressed. Very comfortable on the motorway and, if the on board system is to be believed, I averaged 32.2mpg. I haven't re-brimmed the tank, so that figure hasn't been checked, but it is not bad for a steady 75 cruise up the M5 followed by a stop start crawl up the M42. The car has a full Lexus history until 2 years ago but since the June 2017 MOT has done less than 1,600 miles. It was serviced last week and the cam belt/water pump were done, so it should be good to go. My only minor quibble is that it has 4 different tyres on it, one brand new Falken, one Pirelli with only a few miles on it and two different Dunlops both of which are down to about 4mm.2 points

hello all, Just wanted to share that I bought my first IS300h F Sport after a long debate with the Mrs if we should keep the RX450h. I've had plenty of Lexus's in the past and after going through all/majority of German brands, I'm sticking to Lexus. I've had numerous IS200 Sports, a IS220d Sport, a couple of IS-F's, GS300h F Sport, still got the RX (for now) and now my first IS300h F Sport.... and I really like it. not as spacious as the RX or GS obviously, but a very nice place to be in, the seats really wrap around you I must say and the chunky steering I've missed, I love the DRL's.2 points

Hi all, I thought I’d stop by and say hello. Cars? Currently I have an isf. That replaced a facelift sc430, which replaced a pre-facelift SC430, which replaced a Soarer vvti single turbo. All have been brilliant cars. Favourite? I really can’t say!2 points

Got the axle stands out this afternoon to investigate some rattles (that you hear with the window down/outside the vehicle). I found one heat shield fixing in the middle of the exhaust had corroded through and was delighted when the nut came off the stud. A large penny washer sorted that. Both rear brake stone guards are corroded through so they were bodged until I get replacements (or chop them off). Both rear brake sliders were re-lubed whilst I was there. I also found a spanner nestled in the OSR low control arm! It's quite rusty and been there since early December, when I replaced both rear toe arms I suppose that may have accounted for the odd rattle too I can't recall ever leaving tools lying around before, must be my age! Was too hot to be lugging a 3 tonne trolley jack around.2 points

TO be honest mine is in great shape now, had an owner that wasn’t overly bothered about fixing stuff but would only go to main dealer and not try to fix stuff himself. Most of the issues I have had are common but once fixed, and old cars so scrap yards generally have a few bits lying around, or parts brand new non Lexus parts like brakes are super cheap. i have the 5 speed version and yes you put it in sport mode and hit the throttle and it takes a while to wind up, then it pauses from 1st to 2nd and then it off like a rocket, the 6 speed is more fluid, both simular 0-62 and I’m sure the original engine had a few more horses, It’s a luxury cruiser so I suppose that’s the way they designed it for the original model. Mine has 140k and starts and drives like new. I think if you buy a car this old and the owner before hasn’t been on the ball yr need to spend a bit to get all fluids etc changed so you know it’s in good nick. Just go buy one they are amazing and like most Lexus, loyal.1 point

Just coming up to to 130k on my IS250, it was a high mileage at 58k being just over 2 years old, I paid £13500 and it was still under warranty. It'll be 10 years old next March.1 point

I can't resist ... The RC300h is fast enough, more than fast enough to loose one's license There I've said it and I'm proud to be a 300h driver..1 point

Hi Ian, that's good advice from John though Lexus main dealers rarely stock them or sell them at a good price as they stopped making them in 2009. The SC430 is an ultra reliable, very well engineered, solid piece of kit. It doesn't have to be supplied by a Lexus main dealer to be a good one but a good service history is important. Most of what we are talking about here in this thread is on an early, high-ish mileage and slightly modified car. I suspect it's been left unused for a little while and in Big Pete's hands is being restored to order with a few upgrades. Buy one that has a good service history (Lexus dealer, good Indy or knowledgeable enthusiast) that has clearly been looked after and you should be fine. Mine has been thoroughly abused though properly serviced and with 140k+ miles on the clock doesn't miss a beat. Kept in the same manner, I would expect it to do twice that and more. It's been on the dyno twice and in the first run at more than 100K miles it had lost none of its original power. At 140K in 'abused form' it has a bit more such is the confidence I have in it. Service items will always need to be done but as long as they are then there should be nothing to concern you. I would recommend the 6 speed newer version but the early version is still a good car. The 3UZ-FE is one of the very best engines you can find. Cam-belt kit and water pump replacement at 10 years or 100K is important. Some of us have replaced suspension to improve ride quality and changed to aftermarket alloys, etc but none of that is necessary. My advice is find a nice one and give it a test drive or find a helpful local club member.... I was in Exeter the other day, you could have had a go in mine.1 point

Had a gen 2 is250 and my gen is200t. Both I found brilliant cars. The is200t engine is awesome I found, it includes good performance, pretty good mpg and quiet. Engine only uses 1200rpm while cruising at 30mph. Only reason I've gone hybrid is I wanted an 4wd SUV but didnt want another brand or diesel and unfortunately Lexus dropped the Nx200t1 point

There are none at Lexus Dealers at the moment Ian---keep checking their website.. Have you posted in the SC Forum, which is where you will get the best advice? Check MOT via DVLA Problems are normally due to poor maintenance by non Lexus people. Good luck and do let us all know how you get on1 point

That is a great colour combination, at 2009 one of the last. I've matched that mpg, once. Now with town and spirited driving more like 25. That rear view of our cars is just one of the best designs ever.1 point

Congratulations. Looks good, but I would say that as it is the same colour as mine.👍1 point

I noticed this on my 2016 RC especially after washing the car. It always cleared within an hour and didn't affect light output.1 point

Looks a very nice SC but anything above 30 mpg confirms to me that you aren't driving it correctly. 😉1 point

@Linas.P That’s fine, I can happily live my life not being your view of a car enthusiast. The views you express remind me of some friends that think you cannot be a music lover unless you only listen to certain types of music. Of course each one has a different list of music genres. I’m happy with a wider view of things even if it doesn’t match what others think, it won’t stop me expressing my views and offering a different perspective.1 point

Hi Stephen don't believe everything you read on the internet. I'll send you a P.M.1 point

There is a problem on the older screen filters in that they mark easily. In the US this was treated as a warranty issue but in the UK it seems to be a bit hit and miss depending on your dealer. However you can buy the replacement filter with trim for around £40 from a dealer. Part number is 86134-530301 point

Try Richard Walker the Lexusman. He's not too far from you and may be able to help.1 point

Had a paintless dent repair (PDR) chap visit us at home today and he's has done a great job. MrsF's VW had 3 dings (top of the front wing, side of a rear arch and flat of the tail gate) and he'd fixed one well before I managed to make him a cuppa! My GS had a dink towards the front corner of the bonnet, which he eased back into shape. It's alloy which took him a little bit longer. PDR is a fascinating process which I could watch all day and his 20yrs+ experience showed. For anyone in the midlands that's interested I can highly recommend Adey / Dents First, details at; http://www.dentsfirst.co.uk/ I heard of him via my local detail guru who makes use of his services. I have no affiliation with either company and mention it purely to benefit anyone who's car has some daily driver dings. I'll leave him to price up each job but I can say that he was very reasonable. I apologise for the lack of pic's but these dents were really difficult to capture!1 point

This really does worry me. The original point you made was that you didn't think it could be lack of gas because it was only regassed last year. Unfortunately, leaks can occur at any time so the fact that it was only done last year doesn't really mean a lot. However, there's a proper procedure for determining if there's a leak or not and that involves hooking up a machine that evacuates whatever gas is already in there and pulling a vacuum for 'x' amount of time to see if it remains steady. If the vacuum doesn't hold steady it suggests a leak, so a UV dye would be injected into the system to help find where the leak is. Once the leak is repaired (or if no leak exists) then the system has to be recharged with the correct amount of gas and the correct amount of the appropriate lubricant - in your case, ND11 oil and definitely not PAG oil. If I'm reading you correctly, the fact that all they've done is hook up a gas canister to top up what's already there, without doing any of the other stuff (earlier on you said that they don't use a proper aircon machine like the one in the photo I posted), isn't good.0 points
