  1. I went to the managers special on Monday 22nd but nothing special. As my NX was in for a 2 year service yesterday 24th asked to borrow a RX for the day. Told it was a sport but actually turned out to be a standard RX with sport pack. Very smooth ride on motorway and dual carriageway way but felt too soft for me as if car floating and bobbing and steering light especially on country roads. Had 3 longish trips motorway and A roads just over 1 hour about 30+ miles and got 43 mpg. Impressed. Drove home cross country very smooth but soft and light and got 42 mpg. Then drove back to garage cross country and dual carriageway using power for overtaking when necessary and got 40 mpg. Total about 120 miles average 42 mpg which was impressive with air conditioning on as a very hot day 30 C. Told them about soft ride and steering compared to my NX Premier so would stick with that as couldn’t consider a RX Takumi based on test drive. Car is bigger especially boot and inside which I want and mpg not much lower than my NX but as most of my driving involves cross country on a day to day basis could not commit to a new RX. They then took me out in a RX Premier and the ride was so much better even my wife noticed before we had driven a few miles. So now no more objections so after discussing some options etc ordered one for September plate. They had reserved one already in my colour Mesa red with black interior from my discussion on Monday. Hope I have made the right choice as have enjoyed the NX.

  2. I believe the car has to be serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule and use parts " of acceptable quality" with the work done by a VAT registered establishment? If the vehicle is under finance then the block exception does not apply if the finance company require it to be service by Lexus as part of their T&Cs

  5. Hey all, Ok so I'm working through the list of troubles with my LS and I've come to the transmission or what I believe is a trans issue. A bit of background, when I bought the car it had very noticeable lag if you try and give it any more than 50-60% throttle, the lag would increase the more you try and floor it to the point where I'd be trying to join traffic, the car just wouldn't move and so (naturally) try and give it more gas by which time the gap in traffic has gone, I put foot on the brakes and the car surges forward from the lag. that has happened on too many occasions now. No error codes are thrown btw. So, I ran through 15 litres of ATF to clear out the old (black) fluid and it then topped up to the correct level as per the dipstick (the joys of the pre facelift!) but the symptoms are still present. The new fluid has helped dull down the feeling of the car upshifting (could never feel it downshift but always felt it upshift) but nothing else, still a hell of a lot of hesitation under any meaningful acceleration. This is my first LS so I don't have a base idea of how they are supposed to drive! it feels like it struggles to find a gear at times or when I put it into kick down, it shifts sequentially down through all the gears until it gets to 2nd (for example). I used to have an auto honda accord (literally the worst car I've ever owned) but that shifted straight from top to 2nd in an instant when put in kick down. The question, has anyone else experienced this? I've been reading a lot of posts about engine lag, cleaning MAF, TB, Air Filter engine coolant temp sensor etc but I've done those (and more) and nothing has helped. My next stop is the Pedal Position Sensor, I'm wondering if there is a dead zone in the Pot but I'm running out of money to throw at this car! If anyone has any thoughts/suggestions then please let me know. As a side note, might be unrelated but the engine is idling a bit rough, I've got spark plugs on my list to do but thought I'd add that bit of info in there just in case it's relevant. Thanks

  9. extract from section 47 of the road traffic act Section 47 (1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 states that it is an offence for anyone to drive, or allow or cause to be driven, a vehicle which requires, but does not have, a valid Ministry of Transport test certificate. An offence under this section does not bring with it the imposition of penalty points or the risk of disqualification but does carry with it the risk of a substantial financial penalty.

  10. Hello i have rx400h 2006 with Mark Levinson radio system and i put "chinese" camera . switch to the car's own connectors directly, ground, power, and image signal, and its ground, 4 pins, and working fine. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32854188567.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.29fd4c4ddBQHt2

  11. Hi have you asked them what lexus deem acceptable water pump bearing min and max to were its deemed as bearing failure as we all know they love tolerance in Japan and will have a figure. A failed bearing to us is one that breaks up in engineering circles it's a tolerance of movement or even measured in bearing frequency noise.

  12. Obvious is just what I need it seems, didn't even think about the vacuum hoses! I'll check them when I get home this evening. Didn't even occur to me to check for leaks haha, thanks for the hint! Cheep haha, lets hope I don't have a Budgie stuck in my engine 😜

  13. Excuse me if stating the obvious but a relatively easy and cheep check would be of the various vacuum hoses. Nineteen years is just the time for them to start to crack and perish. Sure would like to see you sort this problem, Good luck.

  14. May we all ask the price of your new rx ,as I'm picking up an older model Saturday but if we really like it over time may look at buying a lot newer in 5 years .

  15. I haven't been able to figure out the surge. I've had it since day one of ownership. so to give an example (and this happens every time) when parked up, I blip the throttle (foot on accelerator then immediately off), RPMs initially rise, then fall and then rise after a second or so to where they would usually rest with the amount of throttle given. this "lag" is more apparent the more throttle you give it so, again in park, if I hit the floor with the pedal and immediately release, the RPM's initially rise then fall then after 2-3 seconds it races the engine as if the pedal was put to the floor and then gradually decreases back to idle. I understand the LS being drive by wire but this throttle/transmission lag got to the point where I was waiting about 4-5 seconds with my foot at about 50% throttle before the car moved, this was from standstill. I will try the manual downshift on my drive home from work, thanks for the idea! but I remember there is a lot of lurching when manually (or in drive) changing up through gears under acceleration.

  17. Herbie you are probably right. Maybe Darius is the first to fit a cover(s) to pre 2011 model. It looks much better Darius. Let us know if you manage to do the front as well. If you provide info on cost and how difficult is to install the covers, maybe other pre 2011 owners can do the same.

  18. It is also worth remembering that higher concentrations of Ethanol have been used in petrol in Europe, certainly Spain, for a number of years. Not aware of any issues, and whilst I would prefer that not to be the case, I extensively used the petrol without any noticeable difference, or up to now any problems.

  19. hi I am not sure wether you are aware but the LS430 has a weak spot where as coolant mixes with the ATF causing gearbox failure - this is due to the radiator design. I would start by checking the colour of your coolant to rule out fluid contamination. hope this gives some insight

  23. Whether or not it was me that Phil (Newbie1) saw on the A22 south of Uckfield, I discovered soon afterwards that I'd been driving around for two months with an expired MOT. Whoops. Good news: after 21½ years and 159,000 miles the car passed - with no work and no advisories. I'm happy.

  24. Well an interesting development. When I got to the car in Bolton everything checked out except the telescopic function on the steering wheel. They offered me the deposit back plus £60 for the inconvenience as they accepted they hadn't listed that (claimed not to have noticed). I haggled a sizeable discount instead. So today I pulled the relevant fuse and cleaned the contacts, then did the 8-click trick on the column (there's a video, 5 things you don't know about your 430). The column then slid silently down on touching the button. Time will tell if the fix is permanent, but I thought this might be relevant to anyone whose telescoping is not working. 650 miles on the new car so far and all seems well. Jon

  25. I think just the fact these cars are rare and that shocks replacement is also rare, it'll be hard to find someone who has ordered them from anywhere. Did you try Arnott?

  27. Coincidently I have found the same on my IS 300h - if the fob is in my right hand trouser pocket, usually also with my wallet, I occasionally get the low battery key message. However, I can have it in a coat on the back seat and never get the warning - in the end I put it down to just that particular position and maybe the body shielding the signal - until I see the warning more frequently won't worry about changing the battery yet.

  28. It's tricky, deciding to stick with a car (model) you like as it ages, or thinking "I've had that one and enjoyed it, now....." Certainly there are no cars that have that 'feel' of an LS. Setright had it that if you see a driver in a jam actually smiling, he will actually be enjoying his car (He might have been talking about a Citroen CX....) but the idea applies here. The concept of price is irrelevant. It's a £50K car still. Or factor in the billions it took to conceive! They wanted to make the best car irrespective of cost. I still miss my old Ser 4.

  29. I forgot, I did replace the rear calipers but they were cheap enough. Lexus Bolton sold me a cheap set of pattern ones but they came in Toyota boxes just the same. Lexus also told me the rear shock absorbers needed changing but it's passed two MOTs since, without a mention.
