  3. Well, with the greatest of respect Keith, just stabbing in the dark and assuming things is not a good way of fixing problems. Which fuse or module was it that you changed and what circuit(s) does it protect? It may be the immobiliser but it may not. Do you have a spark at the plugs? Do you have fuel to the injectors? Is the gear selector in P or N as it should be to start the engine? Even if it is, it could be a fault with the starter inhibitor switch that prevents the engine from starting if anything other than P or N is selected. When you say "I have a number of electrical faults on my car", what exactly do you mean? Start at the beginning and tell us what you've done and why, and maybe we'll have a better chance of helping you mate.

  7. The bumper is around £300 new from Lexus. Paint shop would be no more than £300 for paint and fit. Not sure why you would need a new radar sensor, can't see where 2.7k comes from!

  8. hello all, quick update from me - my GS300 has been largely trouble free over the past couple of months. Couple of points that were surprising however: Found rust on my sunroof frame. Not as bad as some I've seen, but take a look at this: Finding this isn't so easy - in that I actually destroyed this sunroof in getting this shot - without knowing it initially. I thought I was removing the weather seal, when in fact I was removing both the weather seal and the bonded seal on the glass - blast! Sourced a replacement part from a '98 breaker car - in better condition than my own. Learning from last mistake, I left the seal on, but put a load of fluid film inside the weather seal, all around the frame: Looks messy - but once you wipe the excess away, the remainder is up inside the weather seal against the frame - inhibitng any further corrosion. I love the smell of fluid film; it's not too common in the UK, but it's used for rust proofing around cars and boats: https://www.fluid-film.com/ Very easy to remove the sunroof from the mechanism in the car - 4x nuts to remove from inside the car - hidden behind some black plastic that's easily unclipped from the interior: Would recommend folks take a look at their sunroofs at the next opportunity - just in case. Next up is trying tracking down a pirate air issue - using long term and short term fuel trims. With a basic OBDII reader connected, I've spotted my long term bank 1 & 2 fuel trims are both around +11%. Couple with a low AFR reading of around 3g/s at warm idle - it made me think I had an air intake leak after the MAF; I was right: The bottom of my resonator box has cracked open, and appears to be letting go down both long edges. I suspect this is down to heat cycling/age - and I could probably try to repair it with a plastic weld kit - but I'm going to see if I can find a good used part from a scrapper as a first option - then probably add some adhesive heat shied material and cut off the steel plate that was in their originally. Just as a proof of concept, with that crack taped up, my fuel trims improved straight away: Seeing STFT and LTFT essentially cancel eachother out is what we want to see; hoping I can find a resonator that isn't going the same way as mine! Final pic of her - really need to get on with putting adjustable arms and spacers on...

  22. There maybe a temp fix for you I imagine the sensor is just a swipe varible resistor ,take the other one off Measure the resistance at normal height buy a resister and solder in the unit .or I imagine most ride height sensor units are the same and you could try one off another lexus model.( Quick edit Ahh sorry I just realised you have already solved your issue.)

  25. He isn't. Unfortunately @nuggs77 just tagged on to the end of this topic instead of starting his own. The guy using 3 litres over 600 miles is the original poster from nine years ago. @nuggs77 it's going to be either the pressure switch going faulty or the oil pump failing to produce enough pressure.

  26. If your having to put 3 Litres of oil in over 600 miles you have either a oil leak (which has been ruled out by some garage ) then my dear Watson the only other reason is your car is burning oil more likely valve stem seals or hopefully not the rings .you will need to get a friend to follow you in another car and check sitting in traffic idling then pull away nomally valve stems and seals worn. When driving at say 60-70 then let off throttle with smoke on over run normally rings worn .spark plugs will be splattered with oil residue .Or if no smoke is present you have had your car oil level under filled by the idiot who did the oil change .remember if you didn't do it yourself then don't trust it was done right .

  27. Just for info - had the Cat stolen from my 2009 RX400h last week too... in North London... very easy to spot - the car sounds like an old tractor, and obviously there is a big section of the exhaust missing on inspection. There are 2 cats on the RX400h... The main one is up near the engine, and can't be stolen, the second one is underneath the drivers seat. Both are platinum based, and thus have a scrap value. The one under the drivers seat is very vulnerable to theft. I am told the second one (the one that gets stolen) does about 15% of the emissions work, and the main one that can't be accessed easily does the vast majority of catalytic conversion. In other words, you are looking at the second stage of a 2-stage catalytic converter system. Phoned up Lexus, and they had had 6 others done that week, and the parts were on back-order from Japan, unavailable until end of September. Quotation was £1300 for replacement of entire exhaust section - that's a lot, but it's comparable to other platinum-based systems that the Japanese manufacturers use. What do you do if you don't want to pay £1300 and wait 3 weeks? Fit a universal replacement... won't be as good as the Lexus OEM part I would suppose, but I got mine for under £300 and welded in for another £50... so not as bad as I was expecting... certainly not worth an insurance claim. I could have got a used part for about £600, but its a 10-year old part as a minimum... with unknown mileage, so I was happy to try the universal option. I painted the welds and new piping with some high temp black paint to protect from any corrosion too. What have I got now... a ceramic universal replacement - it doesn't have any scrap value as no platinum in it. Obvious concerns: Will it pass an MOT? - well, as I was told by an MOT tester, Hybrids are exempt from emissions testing, so there won't be an issue there (you can verify this info online). Will it affect a warranty? - well probably, as its not OEM - but the car is 10 years old and its not under warranty anyway. Will it last like the original part? - I bet it won't, but I can replace it three more times and still be ahead financially... so I don't care. Does the car sound any different with a replacement cat? - Nope, sounds exactly the same as before in every way. Could it throw a malfunction indicator light? - Nope, the lambda and O2 sensors are on the first Cat, and there are no sensors past it, so it can't lead to any OBD issues. Will it effect power or fuel consumption? No idea, initial fuel economy figures are identical to before, and there is no noticeable difference to throttle response - I don't drive the car hard anyway, not the way I drive, and not what this car is for. When I took the car to have the new Cat put in, there was another RX identical to mine having the same replacement part put in... so I am not alone, neither are the 1000s of Prius owners using similar universal replacements. Use these guys: https://www.catman.co.uk/ Mike was a great help, and knows what he is doing - he told me he's supplied 40 RX400h cats this week... epidemic. There are no other universal exhaust sections available (that I could find... and I looked extensively)... its Lexus or a universal one welded in. The only other option would be to get a stainless section fabricated... but they would still use the cat off the old system... which you don't have because it's been harvested by some degenerate already. Hope this info is useful to those that need it... No idea about the 450, but I've been told they are targeting the entire Lexus range at the moment. You can secure your Cats using a Cat Lock, of which there are several on the market... Costs about £150 and would take about an hour to install I think... certainly worth doing if you don't want the pain in the butt headache. https://www.catlocks.co.uk - ill get round to doing this shortly. Cat thefts are rife at the moment, and it's simply a matter of time if you live in certain areas... so I wouldn't assume it won't happen to you.

  30. Fitted new 3.5 inch exhaust trims, think they fill the bumper cut out better than the oem ones. Also ordered some 8d black carbon wrap to cover up the wood effect inside, some Lexus logo projector puddle lights for the doors and a carbon surround for the push start button. Weekend jobs are to spray the other 3 wheels, paint calipers satin black and stick the white Lexus decals on the fronts, and hopefully have time to clay, polish and wax. 31. I started with a good clean of all the leather and the rest of the interior, inc stripping the boot out. Then polished up the headlights then gave it a wash, it still needs a clay polish and wax. hopefulky next weekend it'll be nice and I can paint the alloys in e-techs gun metal grey. Ive ordered new front discs and pads along with black gloss paint and white Lexus decals for the calipers. Also ordered 2x 3.5" exhaust trims to fill those bumper gaps a bit more. Lots more plans for it but I'll have to wait.

  32. Hi Grant, I have fitted one of these discs ( 2017/2018) to my 2006 IS250 and it works perfectly. The first disc that the supplier shipped to me got lost in the post so he replaced it for me. A few months later the original disc turned up so if you would like it just PM me your details and I will stick it in the post to you. Dec.

  33. Wow. Really. To be consistent, I strongly suggest that you disconnect all the airbags in your car. They cost a bomb to replace and create a real mess when they go off. After all, your chances of having an accident are about the same as hitting a pedestrian, so why should you need costly airbags to protect yourself and your family just because you *might* have an accident. Actually, while you're at it, you should probably also cancel your insurance. What is the point of paying for something you may never, ever need.

  36. I've just traded my IS and got top book against a new car. Range of pricing from dealers was huge though, over £6.5k from lowest to highest. Pays to shop around, I did the final deal over the internet/phone with a dealer 180m away.

  37. Member "Herbie" is correct in that to bleed the brake system fully Techstream is required. The brake system is more complex because of the requirement for a transition from regen braking to combined regen and mechanical brakes, and finally to mechanical only "normally below 7 mph", and the operation of ABS, and VSC systems. 41. I recently was reversed into in a car park, my IS300h came up with a warming “pop up hood failure”. Albeit I need a new front bumper and radar sensor which is £2.7k in Sonic White, the guys at Lexus said I was lucky because if the pop up hood had activated, the repair would have been around £8k. The gas struts are £1200 each, and the pop up hood is connected to the SRS system. Lucky mine was a no fault claim on the insurance.
