  1. Well I’ve had my RCF for a year now and the fact I’m writing this is a real turnaround for me. Being a serial car changer I have rarely kept a car longer than a year due to boredom with the same old same old. Although my V12 twin turbo AMG did last for 14 months, my V8 Esprit only lasted 11 months despite ploughing an eye watering amount of money to get it in tip top shape Having seen one in the flesh at my local petrol station then watching the Chris Harris video of the RCF I was hooked In the 12 months I’ve had the car I find myself liking it more than when I first bought it. Although it has only done 8000 miles it has never missed a beat or caused any concern despite me going overboard with buying a car with the AVS suspension and the TVD. In fact I felt so confident in Lexus build quality/engineering I was quite happy to buy the car with these items, something I would never have contemplated with any of my past car brands. The navigation is crap so I keep my current TomTom for journeys, the sound system is pretty good for a car environment and the fuel consumption is really 20 MPG. After about the first month onwards I drove the car in mostly the manual setting as I feel the car a bit sluggish in Auto. because it has so many gears in auto it seemed to be in top gear a few hundred metres down the road. There is no doubt about the fact these cars are crying out for an aftermarket exhaust the standard one is just far too quiet and doesn’t inspire you to drive enthusiastically. Despite what a few people have said I like the ventilated seats and for a person who ‘runs’ hot in a car they are a God-send in the summer months for someone like me. They make any long trip on a hot day a pleasure as does the AVS suspension setting which is softer by default. I can think of a few cars I’ll probably replace it with, I’ve always lusted after the AMG SLS and of late been very tempted to place a deposit for the new upcoming mid engined C8 Corvette which actually fits in my plans quite well as it’s due mid 2021 so I may just keep the RCF until then.

  2. Mark. sorry to hear of your problem. Fortunately the third party has already admitted liability, and driving without due care. This is because the driver of a car should not take notice of a passengers instructions. It is up to the driver to check for him or her self. Your plan on buying back the car is a sensible one, and something I have done on two occasions. Both times I got the car back by sending a letter to my insurance after receiving a settlement offer stating that I thought the offer was derisory but would accept the offer with the salvage. On both occasions this was immediately accepted by the insurance companies. John.

  3. I can understand engine choice being a factor in choosing or rejecting a car but infotainment system? For me that really does not make sense. But the world would be a boring place if we were all the same. Even if the sheer number of German soot boxes out there does indeed show that many people do like being the same!

  4. Hi all, After 3 years it still surprises me just how efficient the GS 250 can be. These were taken at pit stops during a steady cruise from Bolton to Exeter recently, travelling around 65-70 mph. Who needs a 300h eh? 😜

  5. Hi all, Thinking of getting giving my Lexus a carbon clean, just wanted to what the general thoughts on this, best method to go for, if any? My car is just coming up to 90000 miles on the clock, I am sure that I have read, that it is advisable to have this done, so over to you guys. Thanks Paul

  6. I have recently got myself a RX400 on a 08 plate,it comes with Mark Levison audio but it’s old. Cassette and no DAB. Is there a simply Lexus upgrade that will simply fit from a newer model? Or will I need to upgrade to DAB at an independent audio specialist as I’ve done previously with other cars. Thanks for any advice.

  7. Hi all, My first dip of the toe into the Lexus community. Forums proved invaluable for maintenance and preventative measures for my previous car, so looking to provide as well as find top tips. First hot topic, avoiding a keyless theft or discouraging an attempt. If you can live without Smart entry, then in the vehicle settings menu you can switch it off. I now use the fob buttons instead to unlock and to start the car hover the key over the power button, until the beep indicates you can start the car. This avoids the need for fiddly and unreliable RF pouches or the use of Faraday boxes. To add to this (or use as a bluff if you can't live without Smart entry active), I used a well known online printing provider to produce window stickers as shown (will attach original image next time I am on my pc if others want to use). Worked out at £16 for 12 stickers, not cheap but for me says to anyone with a rucksack and aerial in their hand - Don't even waste your time hanging out on my drive... Fantastic that Lexus firmware allows the option to be switched off, versus the A4 over the road with a giant steering lock on and the Discovery around the corner that disappeared the other night.

  8. You are totally right! My point is that some folk are that incompetent or fashionably ignorant, call it what you will, that they would sooner sit in the dark and cold for hours waiting for a breakdown truck to arrive and even then, being towed away because the technician cant be bothered to read the instructions either! They open the bonnet, dont see a battery and then they suddenly dont know how to perform a jump start. Its cold , its dark and this is the last job of the day...I really cant be arsed... I'm going back to the yard anyway, I may as well go back with this lump of expensive stuff on the back on my wagon. It says nothing more than what you already know and what I already know but it also says a lot more than some folks and a sprinkling of so called professionals know.

  9. I'm not sure there is much left of the written off car at Japanese Car Parts but the Borla exhaust, although crush damaged by the forklift it was moved around with was sold to a member on here some while ago. And I have both exhaust tips in case I ever need them as they are £418 each side from Lexus if I remember rightly. Worth contacting Wayne @northern isf if he's selling.

  10. Well I'm just up the road in Chellaston Samir. 2 ISF's within a couple of postcode areas, bet that's not common. How lucky the people of Derby are if they are F spotting. We shall have to meet up.

  11. Cheap Multi-meter - £7.99 at Screwfix, always using mine and helped solve a few problems on my previous LS (and many a job around the house) Might be able to see if the speaker wires are presentng some kind of resistance, or AC voltage which might show amp is connected, but just not working. Either way sounds like a bit of a pain sorting. Best of luck

  12. Rather like tyres everyone seems to have a preferred brand of wiper blades. I fitted Bosch blades to my GS450H, and found them to be excellent clearing the screen well with no noise. These were bought from Aldi initially at £3 each blade around this time a year ago. In April I called at Aldi to find they were on sale at £1.50 each so I bought two more sets, and two very long blades for the wife's Aygo "I think they were 28 inch long" so 6 blades for £9 in total. John.

  13. You can measure speaker impedance and 8ohm speaker does not damage the ML amplifier.

  14. You can quickly check that the bass unit has it voicecoils working. Just get a 1.5volt battery and connect to the speaker terminals, you should see the cone move, but you should hear a click from the cone. If this works, it implies the speaker is working, which might mean the amp is not working (or the cabling is not delivering to the speaker). a 1.5volt battery is not going to damage the bass unit if it is a working unit.

  17. Take a look an YouTube for a guy called NeverL8inaV8 who had an ISF for many years. That ticking seems to hit them all at one point or another and disappears after service for a short while.... Then returns. Nothing to query about but absolutely, an excuse for RR products! 😎😎 You'll properly enjoy the car, they are a great platform and if got are into modifications then there is plenty avaliable. If you are on Instagram then there are lots of them stateside that are heavily modded as well as my own in the UK @isf_dan Keep us posted 😊👍😊

  19. Old company, slow to change. Also, Japanese culture/companies have a bad habit of not being willing to admit mistakes and instead will prefer to carry on with something bad and continue on slightly improving it rather than shaming someone at the top (i.e a chief designer) who invented the crap. I have friends and family who work for Japanese companies and this is exactly how they all are I'm afraid, such a shame! For example, the female chief designer of the UX/CT is also the person responsible for the track pad (remote touch), she is very high up at Lexus and I imagine no wants to tell her how utterly rubbish her invention has been (you get where in going with this), or they are all in complete and utter denial about the problem. With all that said, it still utterly baffles me as Lexus I'm sure has lost thousands of potential sales due to poor infotainment, surely someone high up at Lexus sees this as serious problem for the company going forward. I'm mean, I love my IS, but when I see how advanced the new systems are from BMW, Mercedes and Tesla, unless things change it's highly unlikely I'll be buying another Lexus because of this crap, and don't get me started on the lack on engine/EV propulsion systems. If things don't dramatically improve with the next generation, Lexus sales could seriously start dropping off a cliff.

  20. Hi Shada, exact steps below. Switch "Entry and start system" to "off". The thing you then need to get used to is to start, depress brake, hold key (buttons side) over power/start button, listen for beep, then press to start.

  21. It was sprayed by a car leather repair company. Took him two long days to complete. Very happy with the quality of the work and the way it's lifted the interior.

  22. Could the ride be to do with the fact that perhaps there is less mileage on the Car than your previous, and the suspension has not "settled" as much ?

  23. Hi ganzoom, Sounds like you may have owned your IS from new and you are are good careful driver. My advice is more for those buying a used vehicle, that may not have been so well looked after. In my example, that MOT fail for dangerous tyre fails is at 15k miles on a 15 plate car. If a previous owner has abused the vehicle or neglected tracking and/or tyres, from my experience it was worthwhile checking and rectifying the mis-alignment. From my experience the dealer did not check or rectify this prior to resale, so can be a worthwhile check.

  26. Well I've just had an email confirming the worse, it's been written off as a cat.'N'. Not structurally damaged but uneconomical to repair. £300 if I want to keep it and it'll cost £200 for replacement doors so as much as I'd like to keep it I need to let it go to get the plates put on my new car and tax and insure that. Sad but I've got too much going on with everything else. Sent from my EML-L29 using Tapatalk
