  1. Well that's a year already - took it in for the MoT yesterday to be told it had 5 failures - a few seconds of silence, and then laughs all around as they were pulling my leg and it sailed through πŸ™‚ Well almost - a few advisories - one for the two front tyres being at 3mm on the edge, one for the undertrays being fitted and then one for worn brake disks, but not excessively at the front. The car had a full geometry at Lexus last November time so should be ok but I'll get it checked again. Not so sure how much I trust that main dealer after noticing the wheels had been fitted wrong with 97 rated on the passenger side and 100 on the drivers side instead of matching per axle. I've still got the new Lexus front disks and pads sat in the box I bought last October as the garage has said these have still got plenty of life in yet. The tester said he had expected it to fail on quite a few items when he saw the age pop up on his system, and afterwards was singing it's praises as suspension, brake lines and interior were like new. Technically the suspension is one year old and the interior two years old so not far off but a sign at least the cleaning and Dr Leather products have done their job. He gave me his number for should I ever want to sell it too - hopefully a good sign. I'd priced up tyres and was ready to get new Dunlop Sport RT Maxx 2s on but will postpone for now as I bought some winter wheels for the Merc last week so that's got 16 inch Michelin Alpins to go on. The Dunlops were coming out at Β£153 a corner fitted so I might just get them done while out of season as that seemed a good price. The emissions sailed through too. Fuel wise I've only ever used super, the majority being either Shell V-Power or Costco Premium, with this last tank being BP Super. Not bad for such a big engine! I'll get another can of BG 44 K run through soon and then get it serviced. It's got full main dealer service history but I wasn't too impressed with the last one so may break that tradition and get it to a specialist - still debating that one.

  2. I think it's wrong that the MOT states under Advisories...."Underbonnet/body panels fitted not allowing....blah..blah" these are factory fitted components by the manufacturer of the car! You have not fitted them after market to 'hide' anything! So why? sorry rant over... just noticed the 1 ppm HC...Awesome! paul m. v nice motor by the wayπŸ˜‰

  3. Big day for the LS today. New radiator and coolant flush, AC condenser, gearbox oil cooler and aux belt. Didn't even get around to doing the oil change. The whole reason the front clip is off is I wanted to make some changes to the headlights but didn't even have time to do that. I did replace all the bulbs with some nice Osram ones though. I did notice that I need new bushings for the anti-roll bar. There's also some seepage coming from the steering rack but nothing too bad.

  5. The TPMS not working is not an mot failure for a 2005 car. TPMS is only required to be in working order on vehicles after 2014 for the MOT. Vehicles must be fitted with TPMS if built in 2012 on. John.

  7. Actually that's not entirely true. I don't pick it up until Friday. So you may or may not know (or care) that I recently came to an agreement with @ronniemac for his 2002 GS 300. Well this coming Friday myself and Mrs rich1068 are flying up to Inverness from East Midlands to do the deal in person and then driving the car over the Cairngorms and on to Musselburgh where we'll stop over with friends and then carry on home to Sheffield. So that's roughly 400 miles over two days in an unknown 17 year old, 125k mile, sub-Β£1k Lexus. To say I'm looking forward to it would be an understatement I've also just renewed my Lexus breakdown cover for another year. I think there is a problem with one of the O2 sensors and I'm hoping the drive won't burn out the cat. Anyhoo, a couple of pics supplied by Ron. Btw, is this Cinnabar Red?

  8. It's been a while since I did any mods on my IS250. I've owned it for just over 12 years. I've recently completely resprayed the car to Ultrasonic Blue and have quite a few mods planned in the coming weeks/months. I purchased a stitch-on leather wrap for my IS250 steering wheel. I purchased my leather wrap from AliExpress directly from China. Cost was $26 with FREE delivery and with a extra $4 off coupon. Making total $22 which converted in GBP to around Β£17. You can get them as cheap as $12 with free shipping. But most of them are synthetic leather. I went for the slightly more expensive one that said genuine cowhide leather. I went for perforated leather with blue stitching. I wanted to add an F Emblem at the bottom of the steering wheel to give the re-trim some uniqueness. F emblems small enough for the steering wheel are hard to find and Lexus don't seem to sell them as replacements. So I designed and printed my own in 3D resin. I cut-out a recess in the original steering wheel and used contact adhesive to form this recess shape on the new leather. The result in my opinion is great. I also re-wrapped my steering switch covers in gloss carbon. The key to a perfect fit is to make sure you stick down the leather and stretch and tightly stitch it together. Cost for project was Β£17 for leather, Β£3 for contact adhesive and about Β£10 for printing a sheet of F emblem and Β£0.99 for the carbon wrap. Making the total Β£30.99 Below are some pics and a video of the project including my F emblem design in Adobe Illustrator.

  9. Not sure if my wife is incompetent, fashionably ignorant or just couldn't give a kcuf, but if she phones the Lexus breakdown or RAC etc she would expect them to know what they are doing when they arrived, like any other trained professional without her giving them instructions.🀣

  10. Good evening all, Ive just put down a deposit on an early 2015 (MY14) CT200H Advance Plus. I’ve just been advised it doesn’t in fact have a reversing camera and I thought they were standard fit. Can anyone shed any light on this? I’ve yet to view the car in person. Also can you let me know your thoughts on whether the cameras are a must on these as they were on my previous car that I got rid of earlier today. Many thanks in advance.

  12. Personally I'm a bit partial to some s*x, people's private parts, adultery, lies, hidden agendas, murder, theft, casual s*x, robbery, and drug taking. Luckily I'm also able to follow what's happening in Syria and Eliud Kipchoge's amazing achievement today. Top Gear is ******* though.

  13. Top Gear falls in to the 85% of all TV, fatuous and like the producers of 85% of tv, catering for uneducated easily pleased majority who suffer from FOMO, fear of missing out. A lot of tv is just disgusting, based around s*x, showing people's private parts, soap operas with scripts based around adultery, lies, hidden agendas, murder, theft, casual s*x , robbery, drug taking and weak story lines. Cheap game shows with fatuous contestants, all chasing money. Even the news think the recent hurricane in Japan might have peaked but the rugby might be saved. Pity the two people dead in that hurricane or the poor souls in Northern Syria which the BBC saw fit to show someone placing one foot in front of the other and managed a marathon in under two hours straight after Syrian children were shown in tears and frightened out of their wits after being shelled and running round looking for shelter in their town. Maybe when the middle east explodes once and for all TV Networks will actually ask if Strictly Come Dancing actually matters. Top gear of course lost the plot years ago, Star in a reasonably priced car, for goodness sake !!! Far better to watch Youtube if you want to see reasonable reviews of cars that stick to the subject matter rather than watch 3 stupid men play games.

  15. What did I do to my 1996 Lexus (1995 production year) today?.........well quite a lot so here goes. Bear in mind that I do most mechanical work myself, I’m not a mechanic but I’m certainly not β€˜green’ when it comes to cars and how they should run and handle etc. First thing was to clean the spare set of original alloys and tyres meant for the car, excellent condition but took me 4 hours to make like new. The wheels and tyres on the car where DHP wheels and tyres and to be honest it drove terrible. Any rut or uneven bit of road and it was all over the place and didn’t feel safe at all. Motorways were a nightmare. This is my first LS400 and I thought there was something seriously wrong, suspension/ball joints knackered maybe and was pricing up the needed stuff. But, I put the original wheels and correct tyres back on the car and took it for a drive. I kid you not, it was like driving a different car!!!! Yes, the bushes and suspension are not in perfect condition and I didn’t expect them to be when I bought the car but the difference between the DHP wheels and tyres and the original wheels and tyres meant for the car is huge. I was thinking about getting rid of the car as it didn’t live up to what I expected. By the way, apart from the way it drove, it was a smooth as silk engine/transmission wise which did live up to what I expected. So I’m pretty pleased now and will probably keep it. After all that, onto the main job I planned to do today, scraping off the rust and rust treating the back subframe etc. as it is pretty grotty. Jacked up one side of the car, got underneath and scraped off all the flaking rust that I could get to. Sprayed degreaser over all the areas, rinsed off and left to dry as, for once, it’s not rained today. When it was all dry enough I sprayed rust converter over the rear subframe etc. The stuff I used ( Corroseal ) takes a while to work so will check tomorrow and give it a good rinse ready for being painted and waxolyed. If it needs more treatment I’ll put more on. I also removed a couple of link type bars (just 4 bolts) removed all the rust (there was a lot), treated them and they are drying ready to paint and put back on tomorrow. That’s it until tomorrow and more work but I now think it’s worth the effort!

  16. They’re not the quickest of setups on the CT at low speed. Mine are creaky when crawling manoeuvring to park etc. I’m on nearly 101K on original brakes and are in perfect condition still (as per major service yesterday). I’m not bothered about it as it’s always been like this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. Doesn't the a/c direct more cooled air to the floor when the ventilated seat function is selected? In the RC there is a synergy between the two functions, with the a/c controlling the seat fan speed under certain conditions. The swap may well be physically possible but there may be numerous control factors and coding required. Without 'official' Lexus retro-fit support I doubt it would be fully functioning..

  19. after reading this thread i noticed that mine where also starting to block up, this afternoon i have removed both rear lights then gave the paintwork behind the light a good clean and polish , my drainage channels where pretty clean in comparision to the OPs the only difference on mine is that the 2 covers have been replaced by 1 full length cover but once that has been removed it identical.

  20. Not that I've seen, there are vents under the seat that pickup the cabin air and duct that through your seat. If the cabin air is chilled or on recirc then you'll feel more benefit thru the seat.

  21. The front wheels turning when stationary with the brakes on while turning the steering was my thoughts, but unfortunately I did not convey that in my post. There was some problems if I remember correctly with the Prius steering UJ that was dealt with in a service bulletin, but I do not know if it also applied to the CT. John.

  25. This type of sounder is ideal for increasing the indicator sound level. Two can be wired into the indicator circuits "one for each side", and will fit int the steering column housing. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Piezo-Buzzer-Sounder-3v-12V-85Db-3-12-V-Volt-DC-BUY-2-GET-1-FREE/183981556539?hash=item2ad627c33b:g:HhkAAOSwiWBdl4a7 John.

  26. I agree sounds a bit like salespeak (bull****) to me. I agree, once these cars have reached a certain age they are a good buy.

  27. Interesting story, but intrigued by the label β€˜high specification’, the car looks standard for me and the autotrader description is basic. Sounds like the salesman was over-egging that one πŸ˜‚ (such a pessimist I know). GSF’s came fairly well kitted from factory, unless I’ve missed something glaringly obvious (happy to be corrected). Black does look nice with the lighter interior though. Just wait for that depreciation to kick in and that’ll be a nice car for someone 😍

  28. Urgh. I wondered what you were talking about for a while there. I used at least what they called the "direct link" and when I clicked the photos in my thread it would just open the photo in the browser, not go to the Imgur website. Turns out it does that if you're logged into your account because I just tried it in a private window. Too late to edit now. Thanks for the heads up though.

  29. It’s item number 48674 in the parts diagram from the link below. It’s actually called β€˜bar assy, strut’ but common name is lower front control arm or something similar. When looking for parts etc I was unsure which parts were for my car, some of the model year options are 02/95 - 01/96 or 01/96 - 08/2000. My car was first registered in Jan 1996 so wasn’t sure which was correct for my car but I now know it’s a 1995 model year. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/lexus-europe/ls400/UCF20R/5092/chassis/4803/48670

  30. Excellent result Andy, but why not just post the photos directly in here? Clicked on the first photo and it took me to Imgur and, silly me, I then thought that clicking on the 'Next Post' button would take me to the next photo in your sequence - but it was something to do with a lion! Each time it opens a new window to Imgur which then needs to be closed down to come back here and click on your next one, which does the same thing again, whereas uploading them here in your post allows us to see them all in one operation, in sequence.

  31. Just a little over 3 months ownership of mine and I too am smitten with my beastie. Done nearly 3000 miles in mine. Mixed driving. Getting between 23 and 25 mpg. Longest journey I've done is a little over 400 mile round trip to Milton Keynes. Got about 31 mpg on that run (would've been more if the motorway hadn't been empty on the way home!!!πŸ˜πŸ˜‡) You can't change the boot closer function. It's the way it is. You open the boot to put stuff in or take it out, so pressing a button before walking away is logical. Cleaning the wheels and calipers is generally a pain because of their design. I get my son to do it 🀣. The old 3 inch roll forward (or backward) helps. I've just bought some Bilt Hamber autowheel and wheel woolies to lessen his burden 😁. Tried to see what mine looked like in white ... didn't like it!😁 I've also added some F ghost shadow lights. I think they look quite cool.

  32. Hi again every one , This is an update. I'll start with Thanking everyone that took the time to respond to my call for HELP with the problem of BLISTERING WHEELS. As you all know I took it to the dealer , who then contacted the warrantee people at LEXUS , and the reply was NO ! . And then going by the advice of some of the long time members , I contacted customer relations at LEXUS , who then spoke to the man dealing with my complaint at Steven Eagell , Rayleigh weir , Essex . I was then asked by Lexus to go back to the dealer so that they could take more in-depth pictures of the corrosion on each wheel . After a few days customer relations came back and said they would replace 3 wheels under warrantee ( GREAT FANTASTIC ) , So then I go back onto customer relation again and spoke to the same man ( who by the way was so helpful and very under standing about my complaint ) . I said I was very please with their decision , but my concerns were having 3 new wheels on the car and then the remaining wheel would starts to corrode like the others did within a short time after, and then having to go through all the warrantee procedure again . He said he was thinking the same thing, so he got back onto warrantees again , then called me back the next day saying they would replace the 4 wheel at no charge to me as a gesture of goodwill . I am so please with the way customer relation at LEXUS and the service contact person at steven eagell dealt with this matter and the help and advice I got from this site . Thanks again EVERYONE

  34. Your tech guy should be able to drill some small holes say 2or 3 in the A pillar trim and push some small bright orange led through from the back that just protrude through and wire in to indicator circuit .so when you indicate you get this flashing in your eye line in orange .put them on a dimmer switch to be adjustable at night and bob your uncle no noise but a visual reminder with no looking down .you won't even notice them untill they come on . Or just wire the indicators to the horn πŸ˜‚

  37. when i had a CT it would return in the region of 63mpg or 100km per gallon (4.55 ltr's / gallon) this would be a mixture of motorways and local roads have a good test drive of one first then make place your deposit down.

  38. Well it appears my cheap car good luck is holding! Had an extremely productive, educational and enjoyable morning with Dave at Lex-Tek. He even made me a cup of tea. Regarding the codes, none were present other than C1336 Zero Point Calibration of Deceleration Sensor Undone. The one that triggers the VCS warnings I had. It took a little while to reset and recalibrate but once done it hasn't come back And Lexus Sheffield had assured me that all the other codes had been cleared but would return immediately hence their warnings regarding the ruinous cost of putting the car right. Charge from Dave? 20 quid. He was frankly surprised that Lexus hadn't done exactly what he did. He seems to think it's the aftermarket code readers that triggered it, something I have read elsewhere and something that Dave confirms is a peculiar glitch of the GS 300. It's also something that the Lexus techs should be aware of because they used to come across it at Lexus Sheffield regularly back in the day. And while the bent paperclip trick might work in some cases it doesn't work in all. He knows because even the main dealers used to do it! So I'm sorry Ron but if this is indeed the fix then it's not been the Β£300ish I imagined originally when I was working on the warning light being an O2 sensor. Feel a bit bad about that. In other news, Dave had a good look round the car and declared it a good 'un. We pulled off a rattling heat shield around the exhaust, tightened up another and when I pointed out the cracking auxiliary belt he had another delivered and fitted in under 15 minutes. Helpful that there's a main ECP depot next door. The only other works required are new lower ball joints which he's doing Thursday. Here are a couple of pics from yesterday. It was going to get it's first proper wash but I've arsed about with it so many times this week that the battery was too flat to start! I ended up using my trusty Meguiars waterless wash before I could get hold of my jump leads and use the 9-5 to start it.

  39. Hi all, I have been trying to connect up my phone to the car display but cannot for the life of me get it to work. I have the standard nav and when i plug my phone in to the usb port the phone screen goes blank and says that the phone and cat are now connected via mirrorlink, but nothing happens!! What am i doing wrong?? Thanks in advance, Adrian.

  40. Cheers all. Bought a car today. Advance Plus in Sonic White Two Tone with Black Roof. Very, very tidy car. It has a spare wheel in the boot too which was a nice surprise. Just got to wait a week before I can get it. No camera so will have to learn how to use mirrors again. Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk

  41. I have a 2015 Advance Plus and there is no reversing camera fitted. I think, unless specified as an extra when ordering, that cameras were only standard on the Sport and Premier models for this year. It's a handy thing to have though but, like 'mad jam', I still found myself looking over my shoulders and using the mirrors when reversing in cars that have had a camera fitted. They get dirty quite easily in the bad weather too so can't be relied upon 100%. I did read somewhere in posts on this forum that there are companies online that can retrofit reversing cameras to a CT (similar to the original) for about £750. At that price I think I can learn to live without one 😊
    1 point
  42. Thanks for that. It’s possible that the camera came as standard later on I guess. Looking forward to having a look at the car and taking it for a drive. Very different car from my Jaguar XF with half the power but need a well built solid car that’s very reliable and good on fuel. The CT looks like it should do the trick. Thanks again.

  43. Drove a UX when my MY17 CT Premium was in for service at Lexus Cambridge. Found the UX smooth to drive, quite and comfortable. Good pull from the engine even in Eco mode with no sound of the ecvt reving. Thought there was a bit too much plastic vut overall I liked the car and will certainly consider it as a replacement when I am too old to get into the lower CT.
