  1. My 2006 RX350 went into Lexus Cambridge yesterday for its annual (essential care) service and MOT. At 13 years old and 100400 miles I suppose some problems were to be expected - and so there were: * new rear wiper * brake fluid topped up a tiny touch with advice to replace in next few months * some surface rust on inside face of front discs MOT passed with flying colours That's the trouble with owning a Lexus; imho they are truly reliable and built like tanks. In my times of owning an SC430, a GS450H SE-L and now a RX350, the annual service and MOT has always been the main event. That's the trouble with owning a Lexus, not enough time to catch up on these forums as too busy driving the Lexus not, as per BMW etc, complaining about the latest thing to go wrong! Same time, same place next year😎 Hope all is well with everybody Cheers all!

  3. I just found this parts website - you may have heard of the brand and they offer free shipping to the UK shop.febeste.eu They give clear pictures of the parts along with oem part numbers. I found they have quite a few bushings for the LS430 I thought it might be helpful to members - even if it might be for reference purposes I've just ordered a Transmission mount for £38 compared to £174 Lexus Parts Direct price. Hopefully it will be half decent quality

  5. I’m with you on that. I thought about all season tyres, when I need to change, but then thought when it gets that bad I stay home.

  6. Dunlops are renowned for the wedging, my old RX450h had the same issue.

  7. Thanks for the replies chaps ! much appreciated . I bought the car today ! 😂 Picking it up on Sunday . There are a few paint issues , like the front bumper , nothing major . Any ideas as to m,p,g ?? The Merc was a C180 Kompressor 6 speed manual which to be fair has been, and really still is a good car. Just fancied a change , always liked the lexus . Looking muchly forward to owning it and getting advice from here !! Zuke .

  8. 2.5 years into my ISF now and still love it just as much as the day I bought it, If not even more. Quite a few mods so far with some more to come once it stops being so cold/wet outside. Here's a shot from when i'd not had it long (with just one or two subtle mods) to a couple of shots of it now with a quite a few more additions. I think these are pretty low res images so may upload a few better ones if they don't come out great. Enjoy!!

  9. A good car is worth the wait. This might take quite a time, particularly if you are limiting yourself by colour, trim, mileage and price etc. Lexus being more exclusive than other marques, even premium ones, it's likely that you may have to travel further to get what you really want. Happy hunting!

  10. or maybe I should just keep my gas guzzling ( 30mpg on a good day ) 4ltr limo and never sell it ...... oh yes, that means I'm not building a brand new car and all the toxicity that involves .... and not polluting the environment with scrappage of my dear old gal Malc

  11. Sooooo many variables to even remotely have a chance of taking a 'case' to Lexus I'm afraid. Could I ask does the dyno run make any difference to you/ the love of the car and just interested to know exactly what case you would make to Lexus (not a salty post btw, just genuinely intrigued) 🙂

  12. Do you by any chance know the make of dyno? the reason I ask is that back in the days when my RX7 was being tuned/rebuilt/costing a fortune the guys who did it had a Dyno Dynamics rolling road that they said really underated the power output. Whereas I know many overestimate the power.

  13. Yes, full 4 wheel alignment check should be done at service time. And as with my dealer, they send video of the vehicle and its alignment test paperwork taped to the front bumper lip whilst the car is in the air. Inner tyre wear isn't a known issue on the RX so most likely its an alignment issue, or a vehicle that spends a lot of time in towns going over the humps where the inner side of the tyres scrub

  15. I’ve checked the manual- nothing useful, although I scoured what the fuses do, I could not see one that controlled the problem items collectively. searched US forum - info on resetting individual windows followed, no improvement. Nothing else useful found. Lexus dealer - quoted £140 per hour to diagnose with parts and actual repair time on top - realistic potential repair estimate of £500 plus. Said it would unlikely be a fuse, and suggested that the door multi switch part would cost about £300 (though they could not be bothered to actually look it up). Basically wanted me to pay for the diagnostic test and offered zero other guidance or experienced knowledge. so, I thought I had better come to this forum first. LagerShandy, thank you for your suggestions, appreciated.

  17. Most cars are reliable and don't have any real issues most problems are caused by the driver and lack of correct maintenance .every car I bought years ago I would have gone right through it after buying and given it a full service and replaced anything that needed doing .the only reason people buy newer cars these days is because they are so electronic heavy and cost a fortune to repair .ideally you would have bought an older toyota diesel that would see you good for 200k miles with routine servicing etc .but the enviroment and technology March on .im unsure whether electric technology will be the new time bomb in the future for the planet because of disposal and the industries only motive is profit and stuff the planet .but if we really look at the real environmental issue is humans over population and the need to feed the beast us .we are the virus killing the planet but I'm sure the planet will kick back with a new deadly bacterial strain we can't cure or we will be nuked to death by idiots in power .but look on the bright side your driving a nice lexus 😘

  18. As a guess they have tried to clean it out and have done their best flushing it and are just covering themselves. To be honest I can’t see why as any residue left would be so diluted it would make very little difference.

  19. One of the reasons why I bought an RX was because Lexus has a very good reputation for reliability but things do sometimes become defective and of course things wear out just as they do on any car. I have not yet fully established where the vulnerabilities are with the RX but it is clear that air suspension where fitted can be a problem in time and I would imagine the suspension components generally on such a heavy car could be an item requiring replacement in due course. Underside rust prevention also seems to be worth doing before it becomes a major problem. I do have a 2001 E39 BMW 530iSE which I bought in 2006 or 2007 (from memory). It has now some 100K miles on the clock. As a member of a BMW forum I became aware of the short comings with the model which largely center round the cooling system. So I proactively fitted a new water pump, thermostat, radiator and expansion tank. The auto transmission fluid was changed at about 70K miles. I changed the "hedgehog" (Final Stage resistor, a common problem) and control arms and drop links which do suffer early wear. The car let me down once when a convoluted rubber air pipe split and caused an engine warning light to come on. A drop of superglue and some insulating tape helped me complete a 200 mile plus journey before replacing the pipe. Headlamp adjusters now need replacing because the Hella ones become brittle and break over time but replacement adjusters are available and will be fitted although it's an intricate job but saves buying complete new headlamps. Other replacements have really been service items plus the need to replace some sections of slightly rusted brake pipe. The car has all the really worthwhile features of the RX and the central display even has a TV mode which can be upgraded to work with current transmission format if wanted. The leather interior is very good. There are no rattles, the car handles drives and brakes very well and there is a full sized spare wheel. If it was not for a back problem I would be more than happy to just have this car. I am sure that even if I had had my services done by BMW these would have been less than Lexus would have charged to service an RX. Incidentally, I am breaking another 2001 E39 for the sports parts which have largely been transferred over to my standard E39 by choice and I am very impressed by the build quality. It seems to me that those that knock BMW either have not owned one or don't know how to properly maintain them.

  21. irst guess EV acceptance will differ per country. Overhere ( Holland) the vast majority of new car sales are companycars, beeing lease or just bought. The larger companies/multinationals, banks, insurancecompanies etc have already been limiting choice on C02 for years now. Started at 120grams ( over 120 not allowed ) and over the years this was reduced in steps. The first company has now announced that from next year only EVs are allowed. It goes faster than people think... To push drivers into EV fiscal stimulation is readily available and every petrolstation on the highway has EV charging. And all big hotels. And most company carparcs, and innercities etc. This is rolling out at an ever faster pace. The Tesla 3 is the best selling car this year.... With a avalanche of EVs hitting the market next year i am convinced that it will reach the private car market as well, prices are falling rapidly. Diesel is dead for new car sales. I would not buy one try to shift it in 4 yrs time.....

  23. My current fleet age starting with the youngest - 2005 Lexus RX 300, 1999 Lexus LS400, 1955 Morris Minor, 1953 Chevrolet BelAir, 1950 Morris Minor, so I'm dong my bit for being environmentally viable. Batteries aren't exactly environmentally friendly what with child exploitation in mining cobalt and lithium, plus the damage to the evironment with the pollution caused in the mining process. However, as it's not being mined here, then out of sight, out of mind and it's politically expedient. I really can't see me buying a new vehicle as most seem either pretty bland, or problematic. Pete

  24. An advisory on the MOT on the car I bought at circa 37K miles mentioned there was 'wedging' on the rear tyres and I noticed there were small cracks developing in the sidewalls of the Dunlops too. Somebody else also reported on the wedging but otherwise wear was quite uniform. I replaced the Dunlops with Michelin Cross Climates which have greatly improved the ride but it is too early to know how they will wear. (My car has air suspension which could also have a bearing). I took the opportunity of having a full alignment check anyway and would certainly recommend this if contemplating buying a car with uneven tyre wear with the understanding any remedial work required would be undertaken as a condition of purchase.

  25. Ultimately I'm with @Shahporhere. People are allowed to move away from Lexus and explain why! It is true that I don't recognise many of the criticisms, partly because I just don't have the same issue (I actually find the NX supremely comfortable) and partly because some of the things stated just don't bother me (I rarely if ever get the drone and it just so happens that it doesn't bother me in the slightest). I do recognise others. The infotainment is unnecessarily complex - yes, you get used to it, but it's still an irritation because it could and should be better. I do think also that it is unfair to compare what is ultimately a model brought out in 2014 with one brought out this or last year. That's not like with like. (These things are rarely like with like anyway as the way Lexus does equipment is so different from most competitors). It is also entirely correct to point out that we are lucky to be fishing for cars in this particular pond, but I could be guilty too of apparently minor inconveniences putting me off. I really like Volvo (I had four of them before Lexus) but I find the new designs too boxy; I just find the BMW brand too brash; and I think Audis are too common (this has practical consequences, such as a much less personal service at dealers). I can't justify the price of Jaguars or Mercs, nor Land Rovers (which seem to spent half their time in the repair shop anyway). Anyone loyal to those brands might equally well be holding their hands up in horror! To be frank, if I were to go anywhere else it would probably be to Toyota, for familiarity and reliability!

  27. The Osbourne effect. Yes, depreciation is already going that way because of supply and demand. As demand for ICE vehicles drops (especially diesels) then their residual values will also. That will result in higher lease rates for new vehicles (as GFVs will be lower) which will make them less popular even as lease cars. Meanwhile, my 2015 Nissan Leaf which I purchased for £11000 in November 2017 with 13300 miles on I sold in July 2019 with 25500 miles on for £10650, to a trader. £350 depreciation for almost doubling the mileage over 18 months - pretty much any other comparable car (eg a nissan pulsar or ford focus - not talking classics here) would have depreciated far more. There's a general tendency to look for peculiar edge cases (mention of deserts above) to try to suggest that the mainstream can't go electric. Asia (especially china) is far AHEAD of Europe in pushing toward electrification, and India is starting to make very serious moves because of their dire air quality situation. Remote locations in Africa or island nations are far better served by solar power and storage than reliance on expensive deliveries of diesel - look up how the island of t'au has benefited. Anyone buying a BMW 320d now is going to be in for a very nasty shock in 3 years time. When we are 3 years further down the road of electrification then demand for plain old diesels will be poor. Hybrids will fare better. I'd certainly not buy any new car with an ICE at this point. We may yet swap our GS450h for another ICE (the only thing on our radar is the LC500 and LC500h), but it would be used. We bought our Tesla new.

  28. most of the rest of the world won't be giving up on petrol and diesel cars anytime soon ............ most of Africa, Asia methinks Europe and USA represents about a 6th of the world population maybe crossing the Gobi, Sahara, Kalhari looking for an electric charging point will be a novelty ! 32. To give some idea of Prius economy. I had mine from new as a company car, and when I retired I bought it. I had it for 8 years, and 145,000 miles. At that time the only things done to the car apart from normal servicing. Rear schocks replaced under guarantee at 40,000 miles because one was showing signs of oil misting. A nearside front wheel bearing at 90,000 miles due pothole damage. Tyres averaged around 40,000 miles per set of 4 depending on make. The poorest were "Goodyear efficientgrip performance" the best Hankook Eco. Insurance was under £200 fully comp with breakdown cover. The discs and pads all round were original when the car was sold, and should easily reach 200,000 miles at the same rate of ware. Fuel consumption averaged 65 mpg, but 75 mpg could be attained in the summer. John.

  34. sorry for dropping a post into your neck of the woods... but i had my LC500 on the dyno today... didnt go so well. in fact, my graph was waaay different (in its curve) to what it should be, or what i have seen posted elsewhere. torque was a little down on advertised figures, but made peak torque at the right rpm range (4,700). this is fine. BHP however, peaked at 6,100 rpm (1000 rpm early) and then dropped off very quickly. as a result my peak power is about 50-70bhp down, depending on what numbers you want to use. i was wondering - the 'F' has the same V8 engine, right? would anyone want to join me on a dyno-day? i really need a back to back run with someone so i had a case to take to Lexus to have them look at this objectively. ill get the graph up when i can. But the figures (torque looks fine, its just the hp drop off at the top). @ Wheels: 355whp @ 6,200rpm 447Nm @ 4,700rpm estimated at Fly: 408bhp 514Nm (379lb-ft) horsepower has dropped off to about estimated 350bhp by 6,900 rpm, which is over 100bhp down on where it should be at this rpm.
