  1. Two days ago my 6 CD changer became jammed so today I planned to take it apart. I decided first to get some info and came across the problem on the US site. A couple of people suggested pressing the eject button and at the same time giving the dash a wack on the right, sure enough the CDs came popping out and all is fine! That's why the LOC is brilliant both here and the US!

  2. Hiya, you could chuck away the £ millions spent on research and development and get a real engine fitted by some back street wizard or just accept the nice car as it is i guess, and leave you questioning why you ever purchased the vehicle in the first place. Diesel mondeos make lots of noise at both ends so perhaps swop your excellent vehicle for a Ford. Hope this helps you dilemma.. TIA.

  4. Turns out it was just the headlight bulb. It has been changed and it now works absolutely fine. Car going in on Wednesday to get the knocking noise investigated along with the faint drone at motorway speeds.

  7. My old IS220d has crossed the 150k mark in the hands of a friend of mine. Still going strong with nothing having gone wrong in the year and a quarter he has owned it. 86k now on my GS, so 15k miles covered, again without fault. Touch wood, long may it continue.

  8. 121,500ish in my July 07 IS250 SE-L. Had a new exhaust (ouch!) and air con compressor. Other than that it has just been pads, disks, one set of plugs and routine servicing. It has been almost 12 years of totally trouble and hassle free motoring and I have enjoyed every mile. No squeaks or rattles either. Edit: forgot that I had a new battery too 2 years ago. Drove around for a couple of weeks before I worked out how to make the windows work again...

  10. Hi Yes I have that problem also - mainly on very cold mornings - a wack on the left hand side normally resolves it. It might have something to do with the moving mechanism parts contracting due to temperature.

  11. I have the IS300h Premier and i think it s the one to go for if you love high spec cars. My wife has the CT200h with Premier pack as well, we really love them both. For IS Premier you get standard the amazing Mark Levinson sound system, cooled and heated seats. Memory package for driver seat and i m not sure if the Blind Spot Assist is standard or optional. F Sport looks cooler but it comes with less optionals as standard and it has a sport suspension which i ve been told it s a bit stiffer. It s up to you what you want, I wouldn’t even consider the other packages other than Premier or F Sport Good luck and let us know what was your choice

  12. Having now driven my NX some distance I have had to change my style of driving from that of the CT in order to help increase my MPG. We all go through the settling in period where the sports mode button is fun but then reality kicks in and fuel economy is back on the cards. I was advised by my dealer to get up to speed as quickly as possible, in his opinion this was the most economic way. I have found that by leaving it in eco mode and steadily getting to the required speed whether that is 30,60 or 70 and leaving it in eco has produced the best mpg. I am achieving 39/40 MPG by doing this and its not like Im travelling on a level road, A1, A66, M6/M74. this is my weekly commute at the moment so low fuel consumption is key. I still have moments of madness where my lead foot returns but the majority of my route is at an acceptable MPG. I hope this aids anyone hoping for better MPG, good luck

  14. @Zuke The first time you drive one the very non-linear throttle response in normal mode might lead you to that conclusion. There's a switch to the left of the steering column to select 'ECT/PWR' mode which appears to remove some of the throttle non-linearity. Mine lives in 'ECT/PWR' mode permanently, well unless it snows when it's other position of the switch 'Snow' which is a low torque mode. Wait until it's warmed up properly and let it have some revs and it's quite quick enough. Andrew

  15. the smoothness of a Lexus makes it feel as if you ain't going fast when you actually are. 70 mph on my current and previous Lexus's feels like i'm doing 40 mph which model of merc do you currently have? obviously, the IS250 will feel under powered if your merc is a more powerful model. engine and gearbox are bullet proof but make sure is has had a decent service history.. parts like O2 sensors, radiator, and exhaust will start getting tired and will need changing so look out for those. they also chain driven engines so don't require cambelt change

  16. I have been reading this with interest as I currently have a brand new NX300 on demo. Would agree that you need a longer time than the usual half an hour that you normally get and was very pleased that Lexus could accommodate. Firstly I take reviews with a pinch of salt as I would much rather prefer to make up my own mind. Secondly everyone is different and will have their own views about everything and cars are no exception. What is good for one will not be for others that is the way of the world. Now I currently have a BMW640d so I can't really compare the power or handling as these are two completely differing cars and need to be treated as such so no comparisons can be made between the two. The main reason for considering Lexus was the interior as I like leather and a bit of luxury as my 6 is all leather and a very nice place to be. On that front I have no complaints with the Lexus. With regards to the seating position I too find the steering wheel does not extend out as far as I would like but to be honest after 3 hours sat behind the wheel last night did not find that to be a problem. Overall the comfort was very good. The car does lack power but considering what I am used to that is not really surprising and for this car it is fine. As I have been testing it without any radio on you can hear the cvt noise on hard acceleration but to be honest it is not really that bad and as others have said you don't really need to be flooring it that often so I don't really see it as an issue. Perhaps this Takumi spec one has better sound proofing, who knows. Yes you can certainly hear the engine rev but it does not last for long. The plus point on this type of transmission is the smoothness of the changes or rather lack of them. My 640d is silky smooth but this one is another level. The sat nav is not that good compared to mine and even the larger screen is small compared to mine as well but what it has does all work. I found coming form BMW Idrive to this one very simple to use and did what they were supposed to. I would say though I still prefer the Idrive that I currently have but as with anything there is always a little compromise as I seriously doubt you will find something that will tick 100% every single box. Overall am quite impressed with the ride and comfort and as long as you can adapt to a slightly different style of driving I think that it is a very good car. The quietness around town is very good and even on A roads is still very impressive. Not that good on the trip to work this morning as it was totally cold so the petrol engine was working a little longer than I would have hoped but the trip home hopefully should be a little better. The only down side for me is the fuel economy over mine as it is way down and at the moment I don't think with me doing 18000 a year is a practical option which is a shame. Even if you work on 10mpg less over mine is it really that much to be thinking about, don't know. Plus the fact there will also be the additional £320 per year in road tax thanks to the change in 2017 is also a bit of a dampner, but not a deal breaker though. Also looked at the UX as that has a newer generation od drive and bigger batteries so perhaps wait till that is in the NX? Oh decisions, decisions. Have the car for the rest of today so am still deciding, but the infotainment system and the noise under hard acceleration are two small things to compromise on in an otherwise very, very good package.

  18. Hi. Sorry. Can't help you to much with this. I have the RCF so more sports than the others. I'm sure someone will be along to help.

  19. Yep, that clicking noise indicates a duff battery. It has enough power in it to activate the starter solenoid but when the solenoid contacts pull in to send 300A or more to the starter motor, there isn't enough power in the battery to do that, so the voltage drops enough to deactivate the solenoid. With the solenoid deactvated, voltage climbs back up high enough to pull in the solenoid contacts again and the whole process repeats, hence the rapid clicking noise, commonly known as solenoid chatter.

  20. Would definitely say its your battery, especially after hearing the clicking noise.
