  1. Mot'd my Lexus yesterday - 2 advisories, front discs showing rust on inside and a rear shock slightly damp. Discs have done 25k, so quite pleased as far better than previous blueprint and lexus ones, so I'll replace with same (pagid). Also got cambelt (didn't look worn) and accessory belt done (10 years and 55k) along with plugs and annual oil/filter change, so should be good for another year. It could do with paintwork at top of screen as it's starting to rust in this area, plus a small blister on rear n/s wheel arch, but all in all, not bad for 21 years old and 178,000 miles, and still looks good. 2. good news, collecting the up and running Ls400 tomorrow, all done, final bill about £467 I think I'll confirm tomorrow Relief all round today I would have investigated specifically the Amayama route but didn't wish to wait a couple of weeks longer for the steed so missed her, the Honda Legend is a great car but it's not really " me " Malc

  3. EARLY update, just spoken to Westfield motors (Ian) GSF manifolds are on, straight forward swap despite formation difference, everything lines up, my manifold was cracked around and only held in position by the three that weren’t!....only alteration is the oil dip stick tube fails the manifold and is at present removed and being reshaped to clear the manifold, the heat shields are totally different as so if anyone was to proceed down the GSF manifold route you would need a set of these, thankfully mine came with them......car should be up and running today with a geometry test required as the sub frame had to be removed for access, biggest concern was the steering rack BUT they have cleared the rack as formation is identical once the branches join pipe to exhaust, just a new O2 sensor (jammed in) and a couple of gaskets and it’s a goer 🤞🏻🤞🏻

  4. I have had 3 Prius and now on my IS300h All of them had transmission fluid changed every 100k and none of them had any failures. My oldest Prius is now 16 and has done 340,000 miles with no major mechanical issues, my IS is just approaching 140,000 miles and drives like new. I recommend changing the fluid, no fluid will last more than 100k and still give optimum lubrication Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Had a BMW E39 528i that did 210k miles over 10 years with sealed for life auto box - was still working perfectly when I sold it - always dealer serviced but gearbox oil was never changed.

  7. Hi A dehumidifier might solve the problem but the root cause will still be there I would check for leaks - this could be door, boot and sunroof seals and rear lights - also check for blocked rain channels. Leave your aircon on all the time - this ensures dry air circulated into the cabin Ensure recirculate is always left set to outside air Leave airflow set to feet and front windshield. I have a 430 and with these settings I hardly ever have to touch any control unless on iced up morning Hope this helps

  8. Hello everybody After a 4 month search got a very good deal on a 2018 black rcf. Put my deposit down today. Its done 5k miles single owner. I had it independently inspected and it does not even have any stone chips. anyway I may get ppf/wrap as I didn’t really want a black car but it was comfortably in budget. To finish it off I would like to buy an aftermarket exhaust. I am fairly flexible on type but preference would be quicksilver. if anyone wishes to sell theirs please let me know best wishes Simran

  9. Sadly Rockauto can't be contacted by phone but their customer service email is fairly good, so you could perhaps email them to check parts details. The lifetime warranty won't apply if shipped outside the US (apart from Canada) so you'll get a two year warranty. If you choose post for shipping you'll likely get clobbered by Parcelforce for import duty. If you choose FedEx you pay vat up front so nothing else to pay, and delivery is very quick, I've had parts delivered in four days.

  12. Interesting, is it less on other models? The 2-for-1 letter I've just had for my RX450 quotes a figure of £995. With the AA membership covering my annual French holiday it's not bad value. I need to ring up my dealer to confirm one or two things, but it's likely I will go for it on mine as the 1-year used warranty is about to come to an end, and I'm happy to keep it for a while yet. That's good to know. I'm not planning on moving mine on until sometime in 2021 but if circumstances dictate otherwise it's good to know I haven't lost the full amount. It doesn't apply to mine as it's now over five years old, but it still seems wrong that Lexus only give a three-year warranty from new. Especially when a Toyota using largely similar components does have five years......

  13. The main issues are sticking calipers, water pump and look at the exhaust. As long as it's been serviced regularly preferably by Lexus it should serve you well. Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk

  15. and Exactly what I mean! Since you posted the article John I've been reading up. A few drain and fills can't hurt, especially at only a couple of litres a time. I think the complete 8ltr drain or flush I'd be wary of though. Like all the dead leaves and twigs I imagine in the bottom of my fuel tank I dread to think what I'd disturb in a gearbox

  16. 11/01/2020 Not Lexus but it is Lexus. Advice for Lexus owners too ? IQ test I have owned a Toyota IQ2 with 998cc engine and CVT from new and it is now coming up to 10 years old. It has 65,000 miles on the clock, serviced every year at our local Toyota dealer and has never given a minutes problem. Due to its reliability and practicality as a town car, we would like to keep it for another trouble-free 10 years and to this end (and noting the advice regarding changing oil in automatic gearboxes) I ask the Toyota service manager each year, should the oil in the CVT be changed? Each year I am advised: no servicing is required, the CVT unit is sealed for life and hence no oil change is required, the CVT in the IQ is very reliable and they have had very few, if any, problems with it. What would Honest Johns advice be on the subject? JMT, via email It's true that Toyota CVTs have generally been very reliable, and the IQ has been a paragon of reliability, but "sealed for life" means sealed for the design life of the car, which is 7 years. Honda recommends a regular change of fluid in its CVTs, so I would talk to a member of http://www.fedauto.co.uk about this and see what he has to say.

  17. I know it's " old hat " now but the Mk3 starter motor was the subject of a free recall all those moons back when i bought my car in 2011 from ACLex on here I did ask Lexus if it had been changed and they confirmed there was nothing outstanding Malc

  19. I had the same 'problem' when I had an ISF. Can't quite remember, but I'm sure if you push the button in to select cruise control, and then push the stalk away from you for 5 seconds, you should then have the normal cruise you desire. Once done it remains until you turn the ignition off.

  20. How can a car battery last 7 years and another 1 year, a wheel bearing 100k or 250k, the starter motor the same? Some LS starters have failed many haven't.

  23. Thanks for the replies, Handbook isn't particularly clear and can't seem to select 'regular' cruise without the adaptive/radar kicking in. Still early days, many more hours of exploring to come.
    1 point
  24. If you select the default adaptive cruise control, it does increase/decrease in increments of 5 mph... unless you reset it and then set it again at the current speed of the car. "Regular" cruise control increases/decreases in increments of 1 mph.

  25. Yeah I’m ringing them again today to let them know that the car is back on for sale, as well as alerting eBay. question, should he still be trading if he is on a suspended sentence? Especially as the conviction was for knowingly selling a faulty car

  28. You do not need a ramp or even remove the wheels this can be done on the floor by just turning the steering onto full lock either way to gain access to the track rod ends. John.

  30. Some of you may be interested to know, I have recently spotted a Tesla style screen, stereo upgrade for the 2003-2009 gen 2 that looks like it may actually work with the Mark Levinson sound system as fitted to some RX models. Looks like an import from China at a cost of around £550 but I think it looks amazing. I really want one of these so if anyone here has any more info on this, like a UK stockist who can tell me if it definitely works with the ML Sound system, please let know! 31. https://www.canavie.com/ Looks very impressive. Might be worth asking them directly if they make a version that works with the RHD UK model RX. The lack of detailed specification info on the site is a concern, I would feel more confident about the quality of Alpine, Kenwood or Pioneer with a Beatsonic interface but that could only upgrade the AV and Nav.. Beat-sonic definitely does work with the ML system but it's not a cheap solution. https://world-beatsonic.com/audio_adapters/lexus-rx-double-din-kit/

  32. If anyone is interested I've got one front air strut left for sale. £90 including postage. The fronts fit either side, a good thing to keep as a spare maybe? Now that I've got all new ones there's no point in keeping this, the others have sold. It's in excellent condition and fits from 2000-2006.

I've not used this Key button ever !! .. however just been out to the car and tried it and it works .. fully opens and fully closes .. so I guess you have answered my question in that .. only the key button or dashboard remote can initiate fully automatic mode .. Thanks for the input appreciated

  36. It may be to do with 'brand perception' in a small way but that can't be the whole thing because all motor manufacturers do it 'because they can.' I had a Nissan Maxima QX that needed an oil sump pan. It was probably made of pressed enamelled steel, it had a few fancy lines on it that had no functional purpose, and it had a few holes drilled in it. Nissan wanted just under £200 if I remember correctly. We bought a new roasting tin at around the same time. It was probably made of pressed enamelled steel, it didn't have any fancy lines on it but it did have a couple of holes drilled in it. Asda or Sainsburys or wherever we got it from charged under a fiver - and I defy anyone to tell me that there's about £180-worth of difference between the two items:

  37. SATURDAY 28 DECEMBER 2019 A Jaguar owner said "During my career I had six Jaguars as company cars and two of my own since I retired. All were without problems except for the last two. At about 7,000 miles engine faults developed and I was without the car for about two weeks. It turned out to be a balancer shaft problem and the engine has to be removed and stripped down for examination by a Jaguar technician from Coventry. A few weeks ago, water started to leak into the front passenger footwell. I was without the car for about four days whilst the source of the leak was identified and dealt with. On 24 August, the turbo failed and the car had to be transported to the dealer on a recovery vehicle. Today, on the M6, the car lost power and a “restricted performance“ message appeared. My wife and I had to stand behind a barrier for ninety minutes awaiting a recovery vehicle. The car is now on my drive and will be taken by another recovery vehicle to the Jaguar dealer in Warrington. This has been a most unreliable car and when the current problem is dealt with I will have no confidence whatsoever in driving the car any distance without something else happening. I am going to Cornwall later this month and will be worrying the whole journey there and back. I would like Jaguar to replace the car. MB, Warrington And HJ`s response was........ This is the law as I see it: https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ Liability rests with the supplier (ie the Jaguar dealer who sold you the car) not JLR. But JLR might intervene. If you took the dealer to court, this would be a significant case (not a 'small claim') involving first the full County Court and possibly the High Court, which would probably cost you upwards of £10,000; maybe upwards of £20,000 in legal and court fees with no guarantee of a ruling in your favour and the distinct possibility of not being awarded your costs. So, unless you get a favourable offer from JLR, it would probably be more expedient to simply part-exchange the Jaguar for something reliable, like a Lexus.

  39. It's a difficult decision as the 450 is newer and looks nicer. It really comes down to your personal circumstance and financial position. Whether u have to finance the 15k or how much mortgage u guys have or not. Everyone is in different situations, I'm not in my 20's anymore so having the newest car is not a priority. I would choose to reduce the mortgage as much as possible so I can finish it quicker and pay less interest, then further down the line get a newer car. It all depend on personal circumstance.
