  1. I have recently joined and wanted to say hello. I have just bought a 2002 Lexus LS430 and I am enjoying the comfort. The car has done 140k and feels like it is just run in. I have already learned quite a bit from the forum and I will do my own maintenance and repairs as far as possible. If I come across an easy way of doing a job I will post details to help others.

  2. I had the rear reclining massage seats in my other Celsior but found them impossible to use..... couldn’t reach the pedals or the steering wheel. 😀

  7. My passion is the old air cooled Porsche marque and i was lucky enough to invest in some a few years ago when reasonably priced. Now retired i have restored them so have plenty of summer fun car experience. I was looking for an everyday car which will not be used much and struggle to find anything i really liked until i saw the SC430. Its 2005 so cheap tax, high miles but with a lot of work having been done to it and in beautiful condition. It was very fairly priced so if it lasts me a few years and goes phut i can break it for spares and get my money back. Happy days.

  8. Agree totally. The point I was making was the UX isn't up to meeting the competition....I am hoping the next IS,300h will be EV...IS300e....I am sure they will have something up their sleeve but feel Lexus will lose a lot of sales over the next 2 years. I wish UK government would give hybrids zero BIK as they do for EV..

  9. Hi all, Apologies if this has been posted already (I didn't see it anywhere) but a somewhat interesting article appeared on Pistonheads today: https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-buying-guides/lexus-ls400---shed-buying-guide/41635 No surprise that the general consensus is buy one while you still can

  12. Jack, I`ve looked at The Lexusman`s website and find that he has had some nice SC models. What is he like to deal with and are the conditions of his cars all that he says they are ? I am beginning to get an itch for an SC model as it looks like an older man`s Touring Car and I am in that category !

  13. Having had a couple of Prius in the past one of the more common issues I have come across with high mileage engines is rough running on start up when the ambient temp is low. Today on start up my IS300H started displaying the same symptoms. The cause is oil in the inlet manifold, on the Prius it was because of the crankcase venting system. So I pulled the tubing that runs from the air box to the throttle body off, opened up the throttle flap and this is what I found So first job will be to clean out the egr cooler next weekend, my feeling is that it will be pretty blocked as this plays a part in the whole breather system, from there I may need to look at fitting an oil catch tank if this doesn’t resolve the issue My IS has covered about 138,000 miles now and looks like now it will need similar remedial treatment that the Prius used to need Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. @Womble72 I've re-read the messages I had with the owner and he says it has a part Lexus service history. I didn't get all the specifics. I may be incorrect in my assertion above that it hasn't a FSH, but it doesn't have a full Lexus one. I don't really care much for main dealer servicing compared to a good local independent. If there's evidence of servicing having been done, I'm not too concerned whether they are wearing the main dealer overalls or not! In saying this, I know some potential buyers can be fussy about main dealer servicing when looking at a new purchase. Lexus service history aside, the owner seemed upfront and answered any questions I had for him. If he hadn't have been at the other end of the country to me, I would have been keen to have went and had a look to see what it was like.

  15. Interesting. Is there a PCV valve or is it un-valved? If so I often find these can fail over time so maybe worth checking as well.

  19. Went out for a spin yesterday to test the phone/slot mount combo. All went very well. No undue wobbling, Ergonomics for eye from road to phone and back to road timing (to check the phone app speed limits) were good. The phone stayed put. The mount gripped it tightly, even over the Whittlesey level crossing, which anyone who has taken it at 40mph will know is well bumpy. I'll give the cdslotmount a double tick VG. I've got a 320 mile round trip to the South Coast planned before the end of the month which should give it a fuller test. I shall report back!

  23. The car is back, feels livelier, quieter in cabin, no ticking on cold start up, no ticking while driving from cold (could hear ticking in normal driving when cold 2-2500rpm) inside cabin, Bill is attached along with parts required and a couple of photos of the old units, they reckon the formation should of been....weld, flange, weld, flange......as weld, flange, flange, weld has put excessive stress on last branch, would be interesting to know if Lexus altered the weld, flange set up on the latter cars as the issue seems to mainly affect early ones, £1200 poorer but a happier poorer now its purring

  24. Hi David, thanks, I’m looking forward to collecting tomorrow morning, I’m looking forward to the cold start up and no ticking 🤞🏻😂......power “should” feel better as I’m led to believe the manifold was well n truly knackered 🙄.......the GSFs are an improved manifold in design and materials used, obviously the same manifold that’s on the RCF, the bore size is larger so better exhaust flow should see an improvement, Ryo reckons possibly 440-450 as the GSF are 470, I also had a cat back exhaust made with resonator removal so that to should see a small improvement too, tbh I’d be happy with a cold start up and no ticking 🤞🏻😂😂

  26. Good morning all and thank you for all the suggestions. I've had a good fiddle about this morning, and the steering wheel option is doing it for me! I didn't realise it was there until you mentioned it, so thank you Dan and David! I did try to sort out voice, but it was pretty disastrous, and going through the command list my options don't seem as extensive as the printed list - every time I tried it I either got 'pardon?' (grr) or the first two digits of a phone number. Hopeless! I looked for the voice recognition training function, but couldn't find it under 'voice' in the settings menu, which is where the manual says to look. After getting thoroughly confused I gave up! if anyone has any tips on how to get this function working, please do let me know! At least now I can navigate, change music sources and make calls without having to take my eyes off the road, which is a huge step forward 🙂 Thanks again for your generous responses.

  29. Not exactly similar - I bought a Model 3 with my own money. It is a fantastic car. I've really been enjoying driving it, and it's more comfortable for me personally (as driver) than our GS450h Premier. A lot of what is said about Tesla build quality is overstated (as in people say it's much worse than it really is)... It isn't as good as our GS, but it's better than our Volvo V70, Honda Accord or Nissan Leaf were. The only material in the cabin that I find disappointing is the fake leather seats (but that's also true of the mercedes and lexus equivalents). I put up a review here: Just to add to that, over christmas we went from where we live in Todmorden to visit my brother in Ilford. On our way back where google maps gives 4hr26 for the journey, we covered it in 5hr15 including charging stops and arrived home with 25% (so could have charged less en-route. I I'd been a little more on the ball about it we could have cut one charge stop entirely if we'd extended another by a few minutes, so probably cut 15 minutes total journey time off). Doing that same journey in an ICE car (and in fact we did the exact same journey in november in the GS for my brother's birthday) was still very close to 5 hours because of pee/coffee/food stopping. In fact, the november journey down took longer in the GS because of a 45 minute traffic hold-up. In 4 months we've now covered 5000 miles with it. It's now faster, charges faster and has new features and capabilities that it did not have when we got it. I see you're in Yorkshire, so if you want a proper look and a ride out in it then let me know, if Todmorden isn't too far away. I am happy to answer EV novice questions etc.

  30. More importantly the end of September is end of quarter for most car dealers so the last couple of weeks is when you will have the best bargaining power. I did this 4 years ago with a 1500 miles ex demo car in December and saved £6000 over the previous weeks price because it had been in stock for 90 days. I put 20000 miles on it and traded it for more than I bought it for.

  33. Just a bit of an update. Fitted some braided hoses this week. The pedal travel didn't really change that much, although when you do get the pedal down the feel is much sharper, but the basic problem was still there. What I did do was take the two nuts off that hold the master cylinder to the servo and pull the cylinder forward and off the studs(no need to remove any fluid pipes). The rod that comes out of the servo has a small adjuster on the end of it(7mm spanner). I got someone to put their foot on the brake till the adjuster is clear of the servo, then holding the knurls on the rod with a pair of molegrips I turned the adjuster out 1 turn. I took the molegrips off and put the servo back on and replaced the securing nuts. The brakes are now 100% better, with hardly any pedal travel, basically the same as any normal car. A word of warning though if anyone fancies trying this, if you go too far you can stop the fluid returning to the reservoir and the brakes will lock on and not release. It's best just to do 1 turn and if you go out for a road test, take your time, and take a spanner to slacken the master cylinder retaining nuts off to release the pressure if it does lock, so you can get home and adjust it properly. If your not sure what your doing, don't do it .

  34. I'll have a try Step 1; Remove the two nuts securing the master cylinder to the servo unit.Pull off the small plate that secures the vacuum pipe to the servo on the right hand stud. Step 2; Without disconnecting any brake pipes, pull the master cylinder clear of the studs to expose the brake rod situated in the centre of the servo. Step 3; Get someone to put their foot slowly on the brake so the rod is pushed out of the servo. Step 4; When the rod is far enough out you will see a knurled bit on the end, grab this tightly with a pair of molegrips. Step 5; Using a 7mm spanner turn the small bolt on the end of the rod approximately 1 turn out (anti-clockwise), holding the molegrips at the same time to stop the rod turning. Step 6; Remove the molegrips and let the rod return back into the servo. Step 7: Put the master cylinder back on the studs, replace the vacuum securing plate, replace nuts and tighten up evenly. Step 8; Keeping the spanner or socket, that fits the nuts, in the car, take the car for a test ride (on a quiet road if you can). Try applying the brakes gently at first and gradually build up brake effort. Step 9; Make sure that the brakes aren't hanging on, if they feel like they aren't releasing properly, take the spanner and release the nuts a turn or so to release the pressure. Take your time getting home where you should repeat the whole process but screw the end back in a bit this time. I don't think that screwing it out only one turn will cause any problems, I'm just being cautious for anyone attempting this. If it does lock on, basically what will happen is when you apply the brakes they won't come off, it's not a case of them just coming on by themselves. So as long as you take your time for a couple of miles, you will be allright, and any problem should have showed up by then.As I said before if you are unsure, don't do it yourself, get someone with a bit of mechanical skill to help you, good luck. P.S. If anyone does try this I'd be interested to know if it worked for them.

  35. Well I’ve tried moving the clamps and dampers from the front of the main exhaust pipe, to the centre and then to the rear just before the silencer. The only result was a change in the vibration frequency, seemed to lower it a bit, but it still happened around the 1150-1200rpm mark. So it looks as though I’ll have to live with it until it’s time to change to something else.

  36. But, as I posted in another thread on here... this is what toyota said in November. No demand. If Toyota really believe this then the next IS, if there is one, will be another ICE hybrid and release into a drastically shrinking market. In 2020 I think there's a very good chance that Tesla, with their 3 models on sale, will sell more cars in Europe than Lexus with their 8 models. Certainly in the UK for 2020 the Model 3 alone will outsell all Lexus models combined. And then the model Y...
