  1. Well what a workout that was getting all this in here. So here's most of the stuff I've ordered for now. So we've got : 6 litres of engine oil 10 litres of ATF 2 litres of gear oil (for the diff) 10 litres of coolant Some new brake fluid No power steering fluid (I forgot) Spark plugs Serpentine belt Oil filter Air filter Pollen filter A new battery Pagid discs & pads all round Handheld pump (for ATF flush) Turkey baster (not for cooking) Various washers for the gearbox and diff and finally some grease and gloves Another big thank you to Daniel from Lexus Parts Direct for getting everything I needed out to me so quickly. If you're not using them yet you should. Remember they're a full dealership and so can sell any parts Lexus have in stock - if it's not on the site, just message them. They were very helpful for finding little things like specific crush washers and interior trim. I need to redo all the work I did on my last one in preparation for the big European road trip I'll be taking in the summer. I've still got a few parts waiting to arrive, from the USA to the UAE! I'll be seeing my old car soon to pick some bits off it. The exhaust system is definitely going on as it's brand new and sounded fantastic. The LPG kit is going to be refitted with new plumbing and what-not only once it's been tested to ensure it's still safe. I'll also be getting the new radiator, AC condenser and oil cooler as they're all intact 🙂 Got my new plates in, I'm going with a 12x6 plate (US size) because I personally think these cars look better with this size plate. I couldn't do it in the last one because some numpty used self-tapping screws on the boot, right on the ends of a UK sized plate.

  2. Like everyone has said, buy it you won't regret it. In point of fact you will wished you had done it age's ago! Bought mine last year and it has been the most pleasant driving experience ever despite sitting in traffic for 70% of my 25 mile commute.... According to my dash I have averaged 50.3 mpg.   4. Hi to me personally it seems madness that people want to sell the cars for only the smallest chance that something might happen. It’s like not going on holiday because your plane might crash. No way am I giving up my Lexus because there is the odd ***** thief around.

First chance I have had to look at the RX today, put in a DVD into the player to see if it would work changed the batteries in the headsets one was working the other not, opened it up to find the two wires were off so soldered them back on and found both were working fine, cant be said the same for the screens one was flickering but think one of the buttons on the screen is stuck in so need to remove it. Took out the DVD player itself and blew it out with the compressor. Next made up this pipe for blowing out the sunroof drains which were clear second picture shows the water flowing freely Then had a clean under the bonnet and polished both headlights. Got a second key but need the gubbins is there a difference between the three button fobs?

  6. Greetings all As the proud owner of a 2006 Is220 with jsut over 110k on the clock, it looks like I'm starting to get into 'trouble territory'. Having put on 70k on the clock in the last three years, I had the dreaded DPF fail last summer. There's a place near me, in Stockton, that does a DPF clean. They took it off the car, and 'washed it' through using water/solvents/whatever. Since then, I've done a further 10k or so without further issue. Until this week. The other night, I got the dreaded VSC/EML combo, and thought - this is it. Oddly, I didn't get the limp home mode that I expected. Last time the DPF failed, I slowed on a busy dual carriageway at rush hour from 70mph to 30mph, and nearly needed to clean the seats. This time, seems the car still runs OK. I'm not back with my car until the weekend, and will get it on the old techstream to see what's happening. But I'm wondering; what am I looking for on techstream. Is there somethng to say the DPF is blocked? I know there are pressure readings, but I don't know what's good/bad. Any help appreciated. In terms of fix... I guess this could simply be a clogged EGR. I haven't taken it off for a clean for about 50k; so hopefully its just that. Any thoughts? Thanks to all for any help. I've found this forum so useful already. Hopefully I can find a way to give back too.

  7. That is right attitude... I hope you understand that I am trolling a little bit, but at the same time not all people going to be as careful and systematically checking components as you described. further, you have indicated that most of the fitments would get thrown away - which then makes more sense. And I do agree that if there is ever risk with LPG, it is almost never to do with the tank, more likely some leaking hose. my comment as well was limited to specifically what I have quoted i.e. "it would be good to buy it and strip out LPG"... certainly that sounds like last idea I would ever have i.e. buying unknown crashed car with LPG and stripping presumably everything.... or worse buying used LPG system stripped from the car which was crashed. In your case that does not apply, because you know the car and you know what is fitted, when it was fitted and how the car was crashed.

  9. Seriously though, at no point will I put anything in this car that is going to make it unsafe. All the main bits of the LPG system, the tank, the injectors, ECU, the reducer were not impacted by the crash (and again, the crash looks a lot worse than it was). All these components are going to be inspected by a professional and if there's any sign of damage, it's going in the bin. I should add that LPG tanks (although mine didn't even get hit) are incredibly strong and can take ridiculous punishment before one fails (not that I'd use one if it had damage). Only if these components are in perfect working order will they be re-used. All the wiring, plumbing and other consumables will be replaced with new kit. This is a high-quality system that cost 2k and is only a few months old so yes I don't exactly want to fork out that much money again if I don't have to. But again, I'm only going to be re-using this system if it is certified as safe (which I'm sure it will be). If anything is a miss, it's getting replaced. I'm not that stupid that I'd put the lives of myself and passengers in danger just to save a bit at the pumps.

  10. Just found this thread. And it’s true the interior pics were taken after the accident. The airbags didn’t deploy, it wasn’t a hard smash - just lots of them. EDIT: Sorry the interior pics were taken before the accident! But only because I couldn’t be arsed cleaning a smashed car. There was no damage to the interior at all. Other then the tracking being off the car drove just fine afterwards. ABS was fine. No CEL, trans shifted just fine. Only light on was the flashing AFS Off light. It flashes if you disconnect your headlights (or violently remove them as in this case). The guy who bought it is putting the engine into his off road buggy. I’m actually heading back soon to collect the exhaust, LPG kit and a few other little things.

  11. I’m not from London so I didn’t know much about the ULEZ. But I went there recently to collect a friend from the airport and was shocked to find out my LS430 is compliant. Very clean cars for what they are.

  12. Hybrids are primarily for city driving and are good in traffic, if you don't want anything else from the car.. then it is perfect. As above, even CT200h seems like a good option.

  13. Like my wife drives the IS300H daily to work and she loves it. Quiet, very comfortable and a joy to drive to take the stress off traffic. That said CT200 would be equally suitable with a better fuel economy but we bought the IS300, used one, for the room in the car and in the boot. it averages around 38mpg in winter and 45 mpg in summer.

  14. Hi Florin. In practical terms the answer to your question is no i'm afraid. I am not saying it cannot be done, but it would be far easier to use an android device with an interface system onto the original screen. Even if you could make the Lexus memory card system work there would be little or no advantage in changing over. John.

  15. From what I have observed used prices of IS 300h seem to be very strong - bought mine just over 3 years ago when it was two years old with 40k miles - now has 86k miles. Depreciation in that period has been very little when looking at cars similar to mine (age/mileage) at Lexus dealerships.

  16. I believe that either the IS or the CTH would be suitable for you. You really must drive one first as the Electronic CVT Gearbox will be different to anything you have driven before. If either of the above cars is as quiet as mine then, like me, you can listen to Classical music whilst in slow moving traffic. Solace indeed !

  18. Absolutely - the IS 300h is the most stress free way to do that sort of commute and will deliver good fuel economy for that mix of driving - should get mid to high 40's mpg.

For the money the Quicksilver is a very nice sounding exhaust, as mentioned it can drone at certain motorway speeds and on a few occasions have had to find the sweet spot in the revs to stop my passenger (wife) moaning, whereas on my own I just turn the sounds up higher. Having seen and heard the Armytrix and the GT Haus if I were in the position of choosing an aftermarket exhaust I'd buy one of these two, purely for the fact you can switch it off. Plus of course the secondhand market for them is a damn sight livelier than for the cars.

  20. An intelligent question. I've yet to come across any after market F exhaust that does not have some drone. For many this is not a problem, but for me, drone is unacceptable.

To be honest, lubricating the sliders isn't a big job, but if you're unable to do it yourself, asking Lexus to do it on a service should prompt them to add it to the list, however, it would possibly add an hour to the labour charge if you can stand that on the bill. We had a Mercedes SLK200 that suffered from seized calipers regularly, along with broken suspension springs, rattles and squeaks, I'll never entertain another one, that's for sure.

Got it home last night, spent some time this morning phoning anyone mentioned on the history ect, apparently it lived in an underground car park in Dublin for many years, the owner spent most of his time in Spain hence the low mileage, spoke to a dealer who bought it of another dealer and had it on his lot for a long time these cost 1800 euros to tax in the republic of Ireland, he just couldn't get rid of it. So far I have ordered a new key but need the gubbins, a digitizer screen for the sat nav as its stuck on the one screen. Even though the oil is still reasonably clear think I will put it in for a essential care minor with a dealer which includes the hybrid check, then change the timing belt water pump ect or maybe do the belt first. The tailgate wont open on its own closes perfectly, opens 1 inch beeps then closes, think the struts are fairly stiff looking cars not had a lot of use, what do you think? Voice command is a dopey cow, just have to use the buttons, want to get the wheels off check the rear calipers slide pins, fuel tank straps and the height adjuster thingy for the lights, will treat the backing plates and give the underside a coat of waxoyl. Headlights are ok but would benefit from a polish, need a clock spring as the cruise control isn't working but otherwise very happy with our purchase. what did I pay just over what the dealer was offering, its a good deal for such a lovely car is almost perfect condition, wont put it on the road just yet want to get all sorted but hopefully by the end of February. This is the worst wheel after 15 years

  27. Having finally got my project Toyota Celsior in good running order it now needs an MOT. Being on SORN is no problem as I am allowed to take it to and from the MOT station without any RFL for the purposes of the test but then there is the insurance cover which is compulsary. First I rang my broker A-Plan who told me to go onto their website where you can buy short term cover but as usual being an import the make and model don't appear from the drop down box selection. A call back resulted in cover for the day being provided for a cost of £36.00, OK not cheap for 1 day of cover to go 0.5 miles there and back but a lot cheaper than a £200.00 + fine, 8 points and car being confiscated or even worse being involved in an accident with no insurance. Cover note being emailed so will carry that with me just incase.
