  1. I cannot understand why people question the CVT gearbox, I find it to be faultless and if anything, better than a conventional automatic. I've given at least four people who are dedicated Subaru, BMW and Audi owners a demo in my IS300h over the last month and all of them have been impressed, if not astounded to say the least. My only advice would be to drive the IS and the CT before deciding as they are very different beasts, but I would place money on you opting for the IS even if it does cost a few quid a month more to run. To me, it's the only car I've ever owned that constantly amazes me, the engineering is superb, it feels like you're driving a nuclear bunker. I actually look forward to driving it.

  2. Here is a post script to the story, as I'm sure you're all dying to know the outcome. A very, very nice man from the AA has just been. Having more experience of these things than I do, he held the keyblade in a pair of pliers, and put it into the lock. After applying some careful brute force, boom - the door unlocked. The car runs perfectly, but the battery needs replacing. I'm just off to Halfords to use my LOC discount card to get a replacement. I will then be stopping at Sainsbury's for some soap and a towel, because once the battery is fitted, I shall be washing my hands of the car. Thanks everyone for your advice here - the AA chap did mention putting power to the starter motor/alternator but then said given the proximity of the car to the wall, it would have been hard work!

  4. Will check the video out, thanks olliesgrandad. I've been trying to be light footed in both acceleration and deceleration to maximise the electric motor usage and regen, but every now and then I do need to hear that lovely mellow V6 growl, and the very shortly following shove into the back of the seat 😁 Filled up this evening, second tank in the car done (well, just over three quarters), 309.9 miles and 48.21L. Calculated 29mpg and indicated 30.3, getting better! I'm off on the 150 mile round trip to Bristol again tomorrow so will see how parsimonious I can be on that trip. It was great on the M5 rush hour traffic last week, the batttery did go down to a red-tinged 2 bars though - the lowest i'd seen it! Apart from occasionally charging the battery, the engine was hardly running at all for a good 30 mins. Any thougths on whether the cruise control is more or less economical than a human? I used it on and off last week and thought it a little keen on the throttle to maintain speed at times. Of course, I think I can do better. So far the car seems to have more or less completely won over the OH, who was very skeptical about changing the trusty Kia 1.4 diesel for a long time. It took a test drive to persuade the change, but I think I have scored a win with this RX 🙂 WIll be even better when the niggles are sorted.

  5. Smart little gadget. I think the clamp could fit to the jump start point horizontally instead of vertically so the bonnet could be closed. Will look into one of these. Next time around might also try the existing charger via the boot direct to the battery instead, as the clamp cables should be thin enough to run between the boot rubbers whilst it is closed. So can charge and arm alarm at the same time 👍🏻

  6. Evening all A little update, I have put a deposit down on a lovely example with full main dealer history. I chose an SE-I in the end. I missed out on 4 cars in total, a lot of vehicles listed for sale were actually sold, I collect on Friday!

  7. Roy - no aux button physical or onscreen Trout - my phone connects to the Bluetooth of the car for calls, but as you know it doesn't do audio, just calls, this dongle was supposed to be for audio. I haven't tried the 30 pin with an ipod but I'm sure it's for more than charging as it goes to tge back of the system rather than to the 12v. I do think it's either aftermarket or optional though. Thanks for the responses

  8. Just shy of 4 years old, I intend it to be a long term car, so think I'll avoid a stick on mirror indefinitely 🤣

  9. Hi There. Having researched the methods for protecting your CAT I have decided to invent one of my own. The prices they are charging are ridiculous. If I am successful and it proves too much of a bother to make them in enough quantity at a fair price I will give you all the details to make one of your very own. All I am waiting for is my son to source me a ramp for a few hours. Keep your fingers crossed. Regards Peter.

  10. What Car reliability results 2019 I'm sure this must have been posted before, but I can't find it so here it is (possibly) again! Published in November 2019, the results for Lexus are pretty exceptional. CT, NX and RX scores are beyond reproach, and very much bear out my own experience with my NX. As I've noted before, I appreciate my NX more the longer I own it. The build quality really is impeccable.

  11. Not sure if you saw this. I have CarPlay in my 2014 NX300H https://www.beatsonicusa.com This is where I purchased it from (there are two versions depending if you have sat nav installed on your Lexus or not). They had a $100 discount when I ordered (it was $499) Costs: £436 = ($499 in GBP) £110 = Import Duty £135 = Installation Charge £681 Lexus Newcastle only do authorised Lexus work but they recommended the Auto Electricians they use for outsourced work.

  12. Between 250 to 600 miles a week. The last tankful was a 170 mile round trip to Shropshire including 100 miles of motorway, the rest A and B roads with quite a bit of city driving. The previous tankful was my best so far at 38.85mpg. This RX is much better on fuel than my 2015 gen 3 car. Oh and I'm running on regular supermarket petrol.

  13. As some here will know I have made a no fault claim with my insurers "Saga" for damage to my drivers side rear door, and rear wheel arch. See my post in the GS section "Rear door damage" I can honestly state Saga pulled out all the stops in dealing with my claim including supplying a Mercedes "C" class as a cutesy car. This came with totally free insurance cover with no excess or premiums of any sort for the duration of the loan estimated to be 31 days at the moment. Every step has gone smoothly with many calls from there claim handlers "Claim Fast" to check if I had any problems or questions. All the people I have spoken to were friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable about the process. They always returned calls promptly, and if they said they would ring me back they did. My insurance renewal is due near the end of this month, and I have had my renewal as usual through the post. The Premium is exactly to the penny the same as last year, but my excess has been reduced "yes reduced" by £100. Needless to say I am renewing with Saga. When I first insured with Saga 2 years ago they were by some margin cheaper than all the other companies on Compare the Mearcat. This is how insurance should be. Not this years premium will be £150 more this year with no explanation why. With my previous company "Churchill" it took me 5 years to get back my excess premium on a no fault claim. Then my premium went up. With Saga I have not had to pay my excess, and then reclaim it. I have no affiliation with Saga, and would rely recommend members to check them out for price when renewal time comes round. John.

  14. Given your circumstances and security concerns Max, would it not have been easier/better to just take the battery into the house/garage/shed to charge it there?

  15. By way of update, my car went back last week for a further inspection after 6 months, as instructed, and it is now with Lexus Derby again to have the water pump replaced under the extended warranty, no quibble, no problem. Current mileage is just over 50k. They do, however, want it for 2 days.

  19. I have used a CTek charger for the past 3 years and always used the under bonnet connections as illustrated in the Lexus manual. During the winter months when I'm away in sunnier climes I leave it permanently connected and never have any problems.

  20. The damage on this car! Leave it in a layby, set fire to it and claim on the insurance.
