  1. Hi guys, I've decided to put my Build Thread on here on a permanent basis if that's okay? Thought it would be easier.... So, here is my IS200 SE. I've owned it since October, I've had a few issues already such as the Immobilizer and the Battery. So far they have been fixed, fresh discs and pads all round as well as a new Sill. Couple of slight modifications, such as your basic Black Sunstrip and tinted front and rear lights. Coilovers have also been fitted (see previous post). I've sorted out a set of wheels which I've had for a while which will look mint I just need some rubber wrapped around them. Exciting times ahead but so much more work to do. Next up, full stainless steel exhaust. - M

  2. I cannot get onto FB while at work, but I did notice on Gumtree last week that someone was asking all sellers of GS, IS, LS cars whether they still interested in seling. Did make me wonder if it was Dudley Dealer trying to hoover up anything going. All thsi makes me think its a bit like the wild west out there on the Web if you're not careful.

  3. Not sure, I was looking through the FB items for sale pages and just came across it, never seen so many IS220d models for sale in one place.

  4. Re: full price vs Essential Care. Firstly, I've found the older Lexus/Essential Care service to not be quite as comprehensive. Check the small print. Secondly, I've only been able to get the LOC discount on the full price service. My dealer won't further discount Essential Care. However, with Lexus Sheffield it actually worked out slightly cheaper (and more comprehensive) to go full service + discount.

  6. Hi everybody! New to this platform of forum, I am a member of the Lexus Owners Club UK group on Facebook and have just recently discovered this site - I look forward to seeing everybody's profiles, cars and thoughts! For the past few months now, I have been having this intermittent power steering fault. I'm not entirely sure what is wrong with the car, I've not heard anybody else have the same issue. It comes and go, I can drive the car for 10hrs and it will not come up or I can drive the car for 5 mins and it will come up and disable my power steering. The car is heavily lowered so could that have a correlation to the issue at hand? I know that the power steering in this vehicle is electric so there is no hydraulic fluid that it could be low of. The picture attached is for attention (OF COURSE) and is of the car that the issues are present on. Wheel and suspension modifications include BC Racing Extreme Low coilovers, Hardrace Reinforced Drop Links and 18" RAYS Gramlights 57CRs. Any help is good help, thank you in advance for any assistance that people may be able to provide!

  7. I ended up cutting holes in the parcel shelf and making a wooden board to mount my 6x9s on. I used some of the random free captivated nuts in the shelf to bolt it down. Cutting the shelf isnt for the feint hearted though. Only way to do this was with a nibbler mounted on my drill. Worked a treat. I picked up the high level signals from the rear speakers by splicing into the loom where it goes from the cabin into the doors. Tried to unplug the connector from the door but it just wouldn't come out! Would have been a lot easier! My 10inch sub is removable so can be unplugged. A little tip, if you do go down this route buy yourself an auto sensing high level capable amp! Saves trying to find a remote on power supply. Sent from my G8142 using Tapatalk

  8. my old 63 plate and my current 17 plate both had the premium nav i found the audio sounded good a little more bass wouldn't go a miss though

  9. Many of the spec sheets available to the trade don't have the detail of the 8 speaker system. But any nav vehicle will the mouse controller will have the 8 speaker system or the ML system. When the vehicle first launched there was only premium nav, once the lower spec system was introduced I guess the percentage of vehicles sold with premium nav dropped but they are still out there. Whenever I had a 6 speaker vehicle as a courtesy I always noticed the weak performance compared to the 8 speaker system.

  10. Another thumbs up for the EBC reds here. Done about 6000 miles on them since they were changed and no deterioration in performance - but once bedded in, much less dust.

  11. Yes they will fit, and yes the compound will be different - no way Lexus are going to let the brakes on an LS squeal. Not sure you can say the compound is wrong - it just won't have the same bite or the same fade resistance - but if you aren't going to use on a track then you probably won't notice any difference day to day. I guess they may be similar to the alternative pads Lexus do under the TSB to stop brake squeal on the RC F, or even one compound lower still. I'm happy with my EBC pads, can't really tell any difference in feel however I'm still only a few hundred miles in at this point.

  12. The sub hole has a blanking plate fitted. I was also hoping that there would be a wiring loom sitting there ready to go but no... The parcel shelf is fixed and cannot be removed! I found out the hard way. Also the shelf isnt flat and has various ridges and holes. Sent from my G8142 using Tapatalk

  13. I have the same car albeit 16 plate and, set exclusively on ECO, it's giving me just over 40 mpg on a mix of urban pottering and longer runs.

  14. As above, my understanding is that if the IS 300h had Premium Nav (so the mouse controller) then it will have the the additional sub on the rear shelf. If the car has no Nav or the Standard Nav (the rotary dial for entering addresses etc. rather than the mouse controller) then it will have the 6 speaker setup. The grill on the back shelf for the 6 speaker setup looks exactly the same as for the 8 speaker setup but there is no sub speaker underneath it. The grades that had no nav, Standard Nav or Premium Nav were rather mixed up - it was not a simple progression through the grades. Grades with no nav as standard had the option to have a nav fitted, Standard or Premium depending on the grade and then for some grades there was an option to upgrade Standard Nav to Premium Nav too. It is a bit confusing and you will probably only be sure of which Nav (and therefore standard 6 speaker or with additional sub) when you look at an individual car - there isn't any reliable way to know from the trim level. I have an old brochure (for pre-facelift models from circa 2015/16) and have attached the specs from that for each grade that was available at that time which may help. However, this whole area was subject to regular changes so cars later than this brochure may have different standard or optional equipment.

  17. It's a shame really. A bit of a half arsed attempt at luring owners away from independents. I believe BMW (or Sytner at least) do something similar and I don't know how it compares but it would be better if the service was identical but only available on cars over X old.

  18. since you've come from a Bmw here is a short SOP for using the indicators. the stalk is located to the left of the steering wheel move it upwards when turning RIGHT and move it downwards when turning LEFT if you notice a green light on the dashboard going on and then off this is normal nothing to be concerned about no need to contact dealership. 😀

  20. when i bought my current IS from lexus liverpool the prep work before you collect was pretty poor, the car had some scratches down the side and on the bonnet in the lacquer but when you are buying using pcp if you hand the car back you will be charged for these repairs even though they where present at purchase, lexus liverpool did take the car back in and have them rectified ,i do feel any damage present at purchase should be noted to make sure you wouldn't be liable at the end of the term if you choose to hand it back. besides this lexus liverpool are really good to deal with and nothing is to much trouble for them.

  22. Check they have given you the price for the older Lexus, which is a reduced price which they don’t automatically offer, plus once you have the price if you are a gold member it will be cheaper again. Just a thought 👍🤗

  23. With regard to the issue on leaking coolant and transmission mix within the radiator of certain Lexus models it could be that those issues are in part caused by the coolant itself. It as been said that Lexus insist on Toyota red because they are making a killing on the price, this is nonsense the mix of coolant is very specific to the reaction of metals that are in the engine and cooling system and to that end any deviation from the science is likely going to cause issues. It seems pertinent that the issue occurring in the LS430 were to say the least in a minority which points to a cause outside of manufacturing tolerances and is probably why Lexus did not acknowledge there was a design or product fault. It cannot be emphasised enough how important it is to adhere to the specs issued for coolant in the LS range.

  26. You should connect +ve first then -ve. When disconnecting, -ve first and then +ve. It doesn't make any difference to the vehicle's electronics but it avoids you injuring yourself or harming the battery by having a spanner on the +ve connection and touching the other end of it to the bodywork which is still connected to -ve - i.e. shorting the battery.

  27. If this thread is still going my two pence worth below... Lexus Sidcup They managed to end their relationship with me before it even had a chance to start, first time buying a Lexus last year. This is based on my experience with one of the most highly decorated salespersons if you go by Google reviews. Key points that resulted in me losing all trust with the dealership: 1) There was not a car on site to match my specs. Instead one was located on list at Edgware and a price was quoted. There was no negotiating on this price but instead two of the extra products/services were "thrown in" after the salesperson left the room to reportedly secure this with the manager over the phone. After returning home to check out photos of the vehicle on the Edgware website, it's advertised price was actually lower, by exactly the value of the two products that were purportedly "free". All blamed on a system error... 2) Sold and charged for Supagard even though per point 1 it was mis-sold due to the vehicle pricing "discrepancy". Was not refunded as the product had to quote "already been applied to the vehicle". This was technically true, in that Supagard had been applied already (and original customer charged) when the vehicle was first sold in 2015 and has a lifetime guarantee. In summary a lifetime product already on the vehicle, was charged for. Further to this, it then took over a month for the Supargard cleaning kit, guarantee card and then interior guarantee card to be located and provided by the dealership. At one point an invalid card for a fabric interior was passed to me for my leather interior car!? So if the product had just been applied in 2019 just shortly after I paid for the vehicle (and not 2015 per the service history), why would it take a month to locate the kit and (correct) cards? Surely they would be right there with the newly applied product? Not to infer anything here... 3) The vehicle had failed it's previous MOT, conducted by Edgware Lexus, due to severe and dangerous tyre wear/failure. Tyres wear out so not a deal breaker for me. Nice of them to replace the tyres, however leaving nothing to chance had the alignments checked and three wheels were all well out. So Lexus replaced the tyres and left the tracking off, so they new tyres were more likely to meet the same fate. Manager offered to refund me the cost of the tracking alignment, refund never arrived. I'm not what you typify as a fussy customer or complainer. The issue I have is with what looks like dishonesty and disrespect for the customer, assuming we do not have the intellect to identify or the nerve to call out this type of behavior (mainly point 1). I'm aware others have had a great time with this dealer, I'm hoping it was just my bad luck. PS. Just to also note, I used to work for Toyoyta engineering, got trained in all the principles of the firm and how it does business the "Toyota Way". This is also influenced to an extent by the Japanese culture of respect for others too. My experience of the firm diligently building these quality cars versus the sales at the end of the chain, two very different things. I didn't complain to the top (Toyota Tsusho a subsidiary of Toyota who run the sales and supplies chains) but doubt the aforementioned fits with their organisational ethics. I appreciate organisations need to turn profits but I believe there are limits to what is acceptable behavior. Off to Toyota Bromley when then service is due 👍

  28. Well after the shock last year of the MOT failure of my IS250 due to a worn o/s rear wheel bearing we had success on Friday with just one advisory on uneven tyre wear on the insides of the rears. I must get the tracking checked, I've never had it done. Well I am hoping for another reliable and stress free year of motoring putting another 12000 miles to add to the current 137000, wish me luck.

  30. Hey Guys, I often see questions of potential new Lexus owners asking between the IS and the CT. Since my parents both own each of these cars I thought I would make a video on it to help anyone who is looking between the 2 models. In my experience the CT is a good step into the Lexus brand & hybrid ownership and the hatchback can make it more practical. However, I think the IS is overall a better car with more refinement, acceleration and interior room. Thomas 🙂

  33. A quick update. I've had the GS 300h for just over a week. Its a wonderful refined driving experience. The car has returned about 44mpg on my short traffic filled commute (a massive improvement on my Kia diesel) and around 55mpg on the motorway, no mean feat in this weather! I had the transmission fluid changed at Lexus Hayes last Friday, the total cost was £145, it took about 90 minutes. Thank you all again for the tips on this. The Service Manager (Mark) was incredibly helpful. After the job at my request he kindly sat in the car with me and took me through all the features and we did a test drive to see different styles of hybrid driving. I'm very happy with the car. Thank you all for your bits of advice.

  36. Hi I would recommend factory fit or your car will crash and your insurance will not pay up your be thrown in jail by the police .i think that's how it goes on here lol. But on a serious note I'd stick to dunlops until the big boys release a better range but of course that's just an opinion on a public forum and I'm sure someone will be along to rap by knuckles with there old head teacher ruler 🤐

  37. Tyre choice is a balance of attributes, compromises, and personal preferences. One doesn't normally get the opportunity to test many of the tyres available and in any event, ideally, this would be on your own car because some tyres are better suited to specific models. But in reality one has to base ones selection on comparative tests on whatever car was used by testers and also experience of other motorists. I narrowed my research down to the 2 models Herbie listed. The Goodyear's won one survey but the Michelin's have done well in others surveys. Lexus Cheltenham told me that they didn't have much experience of the former yet but a number of their customers had commented favourably on the Cross Climates. In the light of this I had the Michelin's fitted last Friday. Black Circle were discounting these with a further £40 off if 4 tyres were purchased. Lexus almost matched the price telling me they were making a loss on them but wanted to retain my business. They had to get them in and fit by arrangement. These replaced the Dunlops which still had plenty of tread but the side walls had begun to crack and the two rears had severe wedging, (glad to lose them!) The Michelin's are quieter and I have found give a more comfortable ride, although this may be down to softer/newer rubber and the Dunlop's having hardened up. I was also surprised how light the steering is with the Michelin's. Can't say how they will perform in very wintry conditions, although tests indicate should be good. I can say I was very happy how they performed in dry and wet on the couple of hundred or so miles from Cheltenham to my home in Devon. I don't mix tyres of different brands or even different models of same brand, so will be swapping tyres round in due course to help equalise wear. I run my tyres at 2.5 bar which is what Lexus set my new tyres at on my 3rd Gen RX450h.

  38. I started using Lexus Guildford in 2015 there about and I've sticked to them ever since.Their service is excellent and the staff in their service department are all good people. I will always recommend Colin and Steve. Prior to this time I used Lexus Sidcup but got burnt and stung by a dodgy technician. Had to complain to Lexus Head Office before the matter got resolved. I have never been there since then. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! However, I would recommend their parts department as they go the extra mile to find you any part you need for your car.

  39. I would never use socks again, they got me to the 1/4 way up a hill then the wheels span, sock came off and wrapped itself around the drive shaft, spent the next 20 mins on the floor, in the snow cutting it off.
