  1. Havent posted for a while. Time of the year busy with kids/work and Covid-19. Touch wood has not diagnosed one yet and dun plan on doing so. my isf has done abt 3000 miles now. And i have decided to stick some kwv3 and usrs bushings on it. Installing them by these guys. Cant resist taking pics, jus a few... there are more limited editions r35 and a lambo huracan inside that building. Funny to think that these cars have more bhp than my isf mileage lol. barrY

  2. Hello Richard Yes the current pictures have restored my faith in you! Previous ones of a dirty looking vehicle and talk of Yorkshire ale were off-putting - you might say. Anyhoo - your adventures with the sound system have been very interesting. The wheels give a distinctive look and set the car up well. Good job. I nearly got in touch with you regarding a 14y.o. IS with 50K on the clock for 1650 GBP (trade) locally. However as I don't have your wealth of lexus expertise and on-hand specialists, I decided I could easily find myself in the same position as with the GS if it didn't live up to expectations. So I am soldiering on with my 12y.o. Micra with 30k on the clock and 40+ to the gallon. Boring but sensible. Regarding the immobiliser time-lag after re-connecting the battery - I'm pretty sure I noted it / mentioned it in the "tips" page in the paper-file I gave you with the car. Best regards Ron

  3. "Gears to go, brakes to slow" was drummed into me in my early driving days.. In the hybrid gentle braking will be regenerative as already said but one can brake quite firmly and still only use regen, it all depends on road speed and pedal application speed. Using the paddles to slow brings in the engine to slow the car with no benefit from regen. I too have a steep long downhill to my home and always "ride the brakes" to keep within the speed limit. By the time I reach the bottom the traction battery is fully recharged and ready for a silent getaway in the morning! The attached docs from Lexus-Tech.EU (for my RC300h) may be of interest? 4. Mods ...... please delete if not allowed BUT as you will see I'm giving away four new tires. Sold my F-sport LS460 14 plate today. I have a full set of four nearly new Summer tires stacked in the garage. They are 245/45R19 ER33 XZ 102Y tires. Only a few hundred miles on them. So I'm paying forward Karma. If someone can prove they fit on their car then they can have them for free. Pick up only in HD7 4NB (Huddersfield)

  5. Both of my NXs (2017 and 2018 registered) had/have a hard copy service book supplied. Unless this is something new, believe you should have one with the pdi marked as completed for a start...

  7. Seems to be done online instead these days especially in recent years with new cars, although I gather you can still get a service book

  8. There's a glitch with some GS (from what I know around '01/'02) that requires you to perform the calibration whenever you connect and then disconnect anything to or from the OBD socket regardless of whether it's a £10 eBay code reader or £££££ of genuine Lexus workshop equipment. So for example, you get an emissions light and connect to read and clear the code. Next time you start the car and move off you get the VSC/VSC Off warnings and have to re-connect Techstream or whatever to perform the calibration. Once that's done you're good to go but it does get tiresome. Hence I don't bother with Techstream any more and try to avoid connecting anything via the OBD.

  9. Hey Ron! Good to hear from you. Yes, apologies for the dirty car pics. It was only to show the new wheels. It won't happen again. And it's John who keeps banging on about the beer, he's a man obsessed. Wealth of Lexus expertise? I make it up as I'm going along mostly. And the IS is a cracking car so long as the service history is good and the sills haven't started to go. I think you could do a lot worse. But I can't keep flying to Inverness and buying cars when you're bored of them. I'll attach a picture of the one my 82 year old father is currently driving around in. I believe you did include the tip regarding the immobiliser, 15 minutes if I recall. But it's much shorter than that. I just wondered if anyone knew for certain mainly because I don't like leaving the ignition on for lengths of time. Probably makes no odds these days but a hangover from when I first started driving and being warned against it, all sorts of dire warnings about burned out ignition coils etc.

  10. I’m pleased to report that the fault on the power back door has now been resolved, although I’m still none the wiser as to what caused this failure. I had previously tried disconnecting the power back door lock connecter, then checking the mechanism and switches, but no problems were found. This weekend I took the car on a 20 mile drive to charge up the hybrid and auxiliary batteries, which I had not done since the auxiliary battery had been previously charged. I stopped the car and put it in park, with the ignition still switched on, then tried operating the boot release switch on the dashboard. To my surprise there were two beeps and the power back door opened, so I then closed the power back door using the switch on the tailgate. Next, I tried opening and closing the back door using both the remote and switch above the number plate, which I’m pleased to report are all working now. All I can really put this down to is either a glitch in the ecu, bad connection which cleare whilst driving or the hybrid battery condition low.

  12. We we are due to fly out to Lanzarote soon and the only suspected case there has been ruled out so we are at present not unduly worried. When it comes to flights you take your chances coupled up in an aluminium cylinder with 300 plus other people. My company has just announced that any staff returning from affected areas must self quarantine for 2 weeks on their return...fortunately on full pay.

  13. Paid attention to the light during normal starting and the light stops flashing as I put the key in. After a battery disconnect it carries on flashing even with the key in and ignition on hence my query regarding time. Next time I disconnect the battery or pull the fuses I'll try and time it. Anyhoo, the sun came out yesterday. What do you think of the wheels? Come on Ron, how am I doing?

  14. I am now looking into the possibilities of obtaining repair/rebuild parts for these air struts but would like to get my hands on a faulty/scrap unit for examination and tear down to see what is involved. The separate units are available but need to source the dust covers also. If anyone has such a unit they are willing to donate I would be grateful. I am also contacting SGS Engineering, who many members will know supply the replacement bonnet struts, to see if they could provide a repair service.

  15. There is no denying that viruses such as this can, and will, kill some people, the majority of whom will be the elderly and the infirm, but the vast majority of people who contract the virus will recover from it. The panic on the stock market and the closing of schools and factories etc., etc., isn't driven by how many people the virus will kill, but rather the amount of people who are sick at the same time and how long their recovery will take. Imagine if 25% of truck drivers are off sick at the same time, what would that do to the supply chains of anything from supermarkets to car manufacturers? If 25% of train drivers are off sick? If 25% of police are off sick? If it spreads quickly and easily it could be very bad indeed for the economy.

  16. If you can drive the rest of your journey in EV mode it would be best to avoid doing this if possible. When you start from home cold the Hybrid system will try to use as much EV or electric assist as possible. This is to reduce emissions from the cold engine by reducing the load on it while it is effectively in "choke mode" running rich by injecting more fuel. Given that you also have to climb that hill it would be more fuel efficient to have battery power available to assist than to use it on a flat section of road with a warm engine. John.

  17. Provided your power meter stays within the regen section using the 'brakes' you won't be using the mechanical ones - get to the end of the scale and the mechanical brakes will also start to come into play. Using the gears, depending on speed etc, will be achieved by the same thing - the system will apply electrical regen to simulate engine load in a lower gear. So there really isn't a difference.

  18. If you don't want to spend the money on a Grom Audio Bluetooth solution I found this works really well. You need to remove the CD/tape unit first which is pretty easy. There are loads of youtube videos available to show you how. You then remove the little 12 pin plug on the back of the unit, insert the Y cable, plug the original plug into one of the Y cable connectors, plug the adaptor into the other. Tuck it all behind the centre consul and put it all back together. I have added a few photo's below if you can't be bothered to look up the video. Bluetooth Adaptor from Ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-Audio-Freisprechfunktion-Toyota-Corolla-Prius-Auris-Avensis-T25-T27/264460236746?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 It's from a German supplier but arrived up in a couple of days. I had to buy a Y-cable as my adaptor wouldn't work without one. I tried it without but the sat nav screen wouldn't work. I got my Y-Cable from amazon but they are available from the ebay seller. Y-Cable from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DJ3MHI8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I could be bothered to pull all of the trim apart to fit the microphone either so I bought a jack plug extension cable and mounted the outlet between the cigarette lighter and the headlight washer button. If I'm on a long journey and expecting a call I'll just plug the microphone in and clip it to my shirt. Most of the time I ignore the phone while I'm driving. Microphone Extension Cable https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-Stereo-Panel-Mount-Socket-to-3-5mm-Jack-Plug-Cable-Lead-1m-007404/262633150655?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 The CD function still works and the sound quality is really good. Remove the trim around the gear stick. Use a blunt screw driver, I used my fingers. Use the shift lock button and move the lever to drive Pull out the heated seat switch panel, you can do this by pulling from the cigarette lighter and from below the heater switches. Set the panel to one side. Using a 10mm socket and extension bar remove the 4 bolts holding the CD unit in place. There are 2 bolt directly below the unit and 2 more higher up to the sides of the unit. All 4 are easy to get out but the top 2 are a pain to get back in. Pull the unit from below and it will slide out. Remove the small plug, shown on the right in this picture and fit the Y-cable, plug in the adaptor and the original plug into the Y-cable. . I then fitted the extension cable and drilled a hole in the lower switch panel to accommodate it. Drilled a small pilot hole from the rear to get it centred, used a 6mm drill to get the socket to fit. I used a drop of thread-lock to keep the collar in place. The finished job, took me less than 30 minutes.

  19. Many years back Lexus Chester had the red press car in. They told me they were doing a massive job on it and changing lots of bits under warranty for the new owner. That seems like a good idea as reliability is a key factor in the ISF proposition. Maybe GU08VSN had similar treatment somewhere in the network?

  20. It depends if your immobiliser light goes out or not. I never had to wait when I disconnected the battery on my old GS430.

  21. I'm really sorry to hear this, as a coppers son I lament the passing of the days when law and order consisted of a good slap to an errant youngster and the fear it instilled, followed by a bloody good punch to the adult who hadn't learned earlier. I don't care what anybody says, the country has gone to hell in a hand cart. Nobody fears the law or retribution these days. Why should we live in fear of sub normal troggs and genetically challenged bastards? If this upsets any "social experiment Liberals" then so be it, you've created hell on Earth.

  22. At long last my Lexus is back home.😂 The body shop called this morning to say they were short staffed, and could they come and collect me to drive the car home. I actually thought this was better than it being delivered because it gave me the chance to check everything out on the drive back. The car looked in show room condition when I collected it being valeted, and fully machined polished. The drive home was pure pleasure driving in near silence, with instant throttle response, and smooth ride. The repair work is excellent with near perfect color match, and texture. I will post pictures when "or if" it stops raining. I have managed to arrange an MOT on Monday at my usual MOT garage so I will be only one day late with the MOT. The DVLA have taxed the car for one year even though it only had 24 hours of valid MOT. John.

  23. At this time of year it's more likely to be steam rather than smoke. As the Lexus engine doesn't run much above 1500 rpm, the exhaust system takes a long time to heat up. If you need a glaring example, take a look at a condensing boiler flue on start up, you get clouds of steam on a cold day, then later it isn't as noticeable.

  24. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. Here is what Highways England told me: Grantham has roads which form part of the Strategic Road Network. This means that Highways England can accurately calculate the travel time to the centre in real time and display this on the Travel Time Variable Message System (TTVMS). The next TTVMS is between junctions 34 and 35 which gives travel time to junction 41 which is the M62 junction for Wakefield. I will now be lobbying my local MP to make Peterborough part of the Strategic Road Network.
