  1. The only advantage I have is that I do not know what the ride is like on stock wheels. Feels ok on these to me.....if I avoid pot holes! It gets worse. Calipers are painted yellow!

  3. What a fantastic forum. Have lurked here over many years . SC430 2002 Bought for my wife in 2006 hence Registration L12 XMS Liz for Christmas , tacky I know but very good reason for it, like recovering from what is normally a terminal illness. Original intention a Porsche but despite 2 other cars she insisted it had to have 4 seats (daughter of 8 years of age at the time)and the Lexus fitted the bill. The Porsche would by now be a basket of bits probably. Currently long distance Jag xf plus 2 other Astras for commute , dog carrying for muddy walks etc. How I wish I had bought GS instead of the Jag!!!! My mate did as I rambled on about Lexus and must say lovely motor. Take the test , close the door on a Lexus and then a Jag. Point proved. The Lexus now in a nice dry garage and will come out to play in Late April /May. Am I delusional but having followed SC430 prices over years are they accelerating in value? Dont care really as this one will never ever be sold . Currently 93000 miles and another 2 -3000 leisure miles with the top down this coming year. Problems yes but minor. aerial toothed belt, door speakers , both of which are within my limited mechanical expertise. Got fed up with tyre pressure sensor light and followed the easy dis connection posted on this forum to turn off. Very very pedantic on tyre pressure as rode large super bikes before banned by my better half after throwing my YZF under a white van on the Seven Sisters Road so unlike the majority of the road going population check weekly if not more frequently. Cannot understand the need for more power/ acceleration in the SC430 if you want to burn off Astons and Ferrari's get a big bike. Even the Bugatti would get burned by a YZF or BMW S1000rr UP TO 120 MPH (2nd gear at 13000 revs). Our sc has a tendency to go walk about steering wise at a change in the road surface and the last advisory was the lower control arm had some play. Will get replaced this April.with discs and pads. Shocks seem ok but if anybody here has experience of this would be obliged to hear their thoughts. Would it be wise to change the upper control arms as well? I have the full workshop manuals for the sc430 (albeit the American model) and the 3 volumes stand 9 inches high. If any body here could benefit then please advise and I can send them a scan of the section they are interested in.Electric and wiring diagram fully one volume . Totally foreign to me. Oh well got a door card to remove (instruction courtesy of this forum to get these 6x 9's back in working order) . Why would you wish to get replacement for the Harmon Karmon unit . Ears must be better than mine. Replaced wheels and run flats and amazing difference. Kept the originals as my heirs may get a better price when they sell for an Audi TT urgggh Kindest regards Bob

  4. Or threaten to issue a summons in the small claims Court to cover the cost of repair. (very inexpensive and covers amounts up to £5000) That often focuses the mind I have found.

  5. I have never seen another colour, called Alpine Blue by all accounts. They were made in Spain and one other country as far as I know. The one I looked at was a Spanish made car which is why it was cheaper than those made in France.

  6. Thanks all for a warm welcome . There is nothing better than cruising along behind a Lexus V8 with the top down .Except Copse Corner at full chat on a Super bike track day but its kind of different and not now for an oldie like me .My sc430 is like my Rolex Explorer 2 watch, its not a sports car , its not the fastest , best handling, quietest, economical car out there but when I asked why the Rolex didn't tell the time as accurately as my digital eco Citizen I was told that the Mona Lisa couldn't tell the time either but works of art never do. I contacted Japex on recommendation of this forum re lower control arm replacement and front discs /pads etc and got an immediate response. Booked in for 7th April (if its not wet) Very pleased so far .Will post my findings . Cant wait for the end of this weather and some sunshine. Anybody want to swap a G.S for a Jag xf . Regrds Bob

  7. I've still got my extended test drive of the Alpine A 110 booked for next week so we will see. The wife gave me a filthy look when I told her that I was keeping the RCF and the Mini plus checking out the Alpine. I did have three cars some time ago interestingly it was an Alpine A 610 and Esprit V8 and my Phaeton Luxo Barge. Perhaps too greedy.

  11. Whilst I sympathise with your view I think you are ignoring the legislation regarding safety and emissions, which is driving many of the issues you describe. I don’t think I would want to be a vehicle manufacturer today facing all the international regulations and whilst Toyota may remain profitable there are many who will not, Jaguar / Landrover as an example. The whole market has moved on in this technological age, for good and bad, so I am glad to still own a vehicle on which I can rely for a few more thousand miles, I hope ?

  12. Nicely written review. Sometimes I wonder if the 3.5 V6 feels less refined than the 2.5 V6 because of the direct injection system (tappety-like noise). If you're achieving 20mpg town / 30mpg motorway, then the hybrid system would certainly feel like glorified stop-start 😛 Either that or HV batt is nearing EoL, but doubtful at such low miles.

  13. I have the hardcopy manual too - I didn't see the things I asked about specifically mentioned in it, so I thought I'd ask the forum :) Thanks for all the replies, I think I'm sorted now.

  14. I was considering a bilge pump there was that much water coming in Sunday!! Better today but it hasn't rained 😐 I'm hoping I have cured the leak which shows around the boot motor, but I'm taking the bumper off Wednesday to try and fix the rear bumper area low level leak. I'm going to follow the standard advice of sealing every single hole I can find!! If I do find anything different from what I've seen on here ill report back.

  15. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ProSlip-Caliper-Lubricant-Toyota-Mercedes/dp/B07886FP12/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Proslip&qid=1583774632&sr=8-1 is the stuff approved by Lexus and you get the pad and clip lubricant as well. This is what I use. My only connection with the company is as a satisfied customer.

  16. Over the years I have used various types of grease including copper based and moly grease, more recently I have used Red Rubber Grease RRG and found this to last the best between services and keep the pins sliding.

  17. I decided on the Luxury when i bought my NX after a initial test drive. The car was 6 months old with 12,000 miles on the clock but as i am now retired and do around only 5,000 p.a. this was not a problem. It was not however a Lexus Fleet Car but the Service Managers car at Lexus Exeter and came with almost every goody added., which I found after some time looking for a "garage own car" as I knew they do tend to "dress" them to sell others Price was good due to "High Mileage" about £4000 less than others of same age with 5000 on the clock but three years later it has now 26,000 on the clock so well below average. Only thing I would say was a niggle to me was setting the SatNav with that dam wheel instead of the touch pad. Didnt bother with all the add-on's they wanted to sell me except the Service contract which is about to run out and i will renew with Lexus Bristol who have been great.

  19. Richard did punt them about the Lexus clubs but had little interest, I have the pair he sent to me but will keep them I case I want to use them on my car or a future SC430. As the generation 7 Celica items are the same lens you might get lucky and find a pair of them 👍🏻

  23. My overall fuel economy is around 55mpg, mainly in urban driving. In the summer, I've had up to 76mpg indicated on long (200+ mile) runs and I normally get about 60-65mpg in other seasons. But - and it's a big but - you have to really change your driving style to get these sorts of figures. Accelerating briskly but not with wide open throttle followed by coasting is the essence of the "pulse and glide" technique, which is what you do for driving on anything apart from a motorway. On the motorway, I let the adaptive cruise control do its thing... set at 65mph. I've had a lot of performance cars over the years, so the CT has been quite different to drive but it's a different kind of pleasure. It's a bit of a chillout car and so there's no point making it struggle to perform like a fast car when its strong suit is something very different. (That said, it actually handles very well and, for brief bursts of acceleration, the battery-assistance in sport mode can be quite effective - especially 0-20/30!).

  24. Ignore the reviews in the motoring media. I have had a CT for nearly 3 years (replaced an IS200 I had for 13 years) and you would think the so called experts were talking about a different car! Make sure you take your chossen CT for a good test drive as it does some issues ie hardish ride, tight legroom in the back and small boot. Do not worry about the CVT gear box its easy peasy to use just different to a standard box. Lexus are reliable cars but need servicing to keep them tip top. The car is not slow even in Eco mode and returns good mpg. Enjoy the car.

  25. The positive views all come from here. From the owners. Low profile tyres and F Sport models give the hardest ride. All CT`s are reliable.

  26. Sounds like the same issue I had too Ray. Here's a post I made at the time, might help : Had to take the passenger side roof rail off and find the rear most seam on the roof has the slightest of nicks in it. Whenever the rainwater was rolling off the roof into the 'gutter' it was running right over the pinhole creating my issue. I've attached a few pics in case anyone else encounters the same. I checked the driverside and the same thing has happened there although the leak was nowhere near as bad. It really doesn't look like much but the amount of water that this tiny crack in the seam was letting in was shocking. I applied some seam sealer all along the welded seams that I could find on both sides. A good heavy instant gasket would probably do the same job just make sure everything is dry before application. After sorting this I still have a slight weep from the rear lamp gaskets but that's a side effect of looking for leaks - you always find more! You should strip the boot floor storage out and clear it of water before it starts to smell too much too. Leave it stripped until you are happy the leak is fixed.
