  1. Hello, I know it's been awhile since i posted here. Just thought i would share a short clip my brother made for me after getting my new exhaust system on the car. It's an Electronic Valved Controlled system. So in the clip the 2nd rev was with the valves closed, the rest were wide open 😁 GSF_Exhaust.mp4

  2. I live near the New Forest. Yesterday we drove the few miles to a remote area and walked around for 30 minutes. There was nobody within sight for most of the time. We got back in the car and drove home. I can't see any problem with this. It's not the driving that could be an issue, it's where you go and who you contact. Regarding the petrol station or toilet, just be observant and keep your distance from others. As for the police, I think they will have higher priorities than asking drivers where they are going (at least after the show put on for the media). What can they do if you just say "to the supermarket"? I'm more worried about all the heavy breathing cyclists and runners...

  3. Just some info more, trying to give the real dimension of problem. Not all people will get the virus, but just about 70% of population. Among these ones, more than 80% will have light or no symptoms at all, but among those fallen in severe symptoms will need to be cured going to hospital: more one is old and with other chronic illnesses , (but also young people could have severe troubles) more he is at risk to need; among these some will encounter a interstitial pneumonia that absolutely needs oxygen treatment in intensive care units for many days with high death risk. You can imagine that , before or after, intensive care units will be completely saturated and at that point people will be left to each one's destiny. At the moment, here in Lombardy we have almost reached this situation and trying to build ASAP new intensive care units, meanwhile , staying at home, we try to reduce new contagions to gain some time, hoping to not arrive at the moment where it will be necessary to decide who has to be cured and who not. I leave to your guess who will have precedence. About final count of deaths, my personal opinions is that, among infected people, that are NOT those detected because of hospital or tested but at least 10 times more, will die 1-2% , that seen in numbers is rather scaring, but compared to all people daily dying for all other reasons will DOUBLE the rate, till the epidemy lasts and hospital cures are given. Better to accept the idea that we will have, among death causes we already are accustomed to (cancer, stroke, etc...) we will have also this virus in the future; not a nice way to depart, as it needs total isolation from family and progressive loss of breath. Due to intensive care units need, this is also not a good time to go to hospital also for other illnesses, so my best wishes to all LOC members to stay safe at home.

  4. I agree with yourself regarding the rear seats, boot space and on road refinement! However, I do love the UX rear bar tail light! I recently got a 2020 NX as a loaner from Lexus and I couldn't believe how comfortable it was!! I actually made a wee video on it if you would like to see the NX?

  6. I couldn't remember if I had posted any photos in this section, anyway just in case it's an age thing I'll post up some since the new wheels were fitted.

  7. I have had a UX on loan to me while the fuel filler flap on my LC was replaced. My partner has an NX for her daily driver and so I was able to compare the two. The UX was a 2WD with the "fake" leather seats. These are comfortable and I could get a good driving position easily but I would have liked lumbar support adjustment. The automatic seat heaters and auto steering wheel heating was a good feature in this colder weather. Over the 3 weeks I had the UX I averaged an indicated 46mpg. This compares to about 38mpg for the NX on the same usage. My overall view is that the UX succeeds in living up to its name as an Urban Crossover. It is good for local journeys. It is easy to park in town. However it is not as quiet and smooth as the NX on longer motorway journeys. My main criticism is the lack of boot space and the restricted legroom in the back seats. I am not that tall but the rear room behind me was quite limited. There is no way that the UX could accommodate 4 occupants and their luggage for a weekend away and I am pleased that we went for the NX.

  8. Hi, I appreciate this is not something most will be able to help with however does anyone have a wiring diagram for the shifter for a 6 speed transmission? I am trying to find out what the various colour wires coming from/going to the shifter relate to. There are 7 wires: green, black, white, yellow, white with green stripe, blue, white with black stripe. Happy to share the results once/if my paddle shifter project works. Thanks.

  11. Today was the first day I could have my MOT and retain the original date. It was a fantastic and legal excuse to drive the twistiest route I could find to Lexus Cheltenham which was still open for MOTs. Not sure if that will remain the case after today’s announcement. But a great opportunity to peruse the showroom with two LC500s and this immaculate late GSF that is being sold on behalf of a local very well known customer who no longer needs it in his collection!

  12. Looking good there Toby. Have you checked my old build thread? I did some research on this but 'bottled out' of converting to an IS paddle shift set up. Skipper do a full conversion kit, they might have a diagram but let me check the records and get back to you.

  13. The concern with driving is that if you are likely to need fuel and may come into contact with folks or touch the pump/credit card scanner/etc that might be infected. You might also have an accident that then involves the police and if it's serious the fire brigade or hospital, all of these resources are likely to be or become stretched...so why make it worse? There are many unknowns, maybe's and what if's but the concensus is it's safer to restrict your movements, so reduce the risk to yourself and others. I don't pretend to be an expert or know how this is all going to pan out but I do hope that we all get out of this fit and well.

Quote "The problem would be if you drove to a destination and then got out of the car for a walk or a chat or something, but I see nothing wrong with, say, going to the seaside and parking up on the prom to watch the sea - as long as you stay in the car - but again, I reiterate that I'm not going to do it and it's only my personal opinion" Unquote So on a nice day like today you get Bondi Beach situation. You might need petrol? one stop possible contact. You will almost certainly need a parking ticket - second stop possible contact and if its my Sea front you won't be able to park for double yellows and need to go to a Car Park. No one will want a pee when the Sea breeze hits you? - Toilets - third stop and contact. People who go to Frinton on sea I'd expect to ignore the "please stay at home" message from the PM. But that's Frinton for you!

  18. Hey everyone, So I took the RX450hL out to RHU and Fastlane Naval base today for a wee roadtrip. Here are some photos from the adventure. Also managed 34.8mpg on the travel (which I think is decent for a 7 seat petrol SUV)

  20. Indeed, having lived through interest rates at 17% and managing to keep my house plus two pretty tough down turns I've learned to be a bit cautious. I've only recently sold my business and feel for anyone caught up in this. I really don't think things will recover for a very long time.

  21. A good link john. I found it both alarming and uplifting. We need leaders who will stand or fall by their decisions. We do not need leaders who wish to be all things to all people. Many thanks.

  22. OK Folks, I think its fixed! So sealing the smaller of the bumper brackets did nothing (Well it might have done something but there was still a leak!) With the bumper off, lights out and trims removed I tested areas independently and what I hope is my final leak was the only seam I hadn't sealed. Please see the photo below for where it was, When I looked at it, it was obvious the black paint was cracked on the seam and there were lots of tiny pin holes. there was also a little bit of metal at the bottom sticking out just right to catch water and allow it to pass if not sealed, it was only like this on one side as well which explains why I only had the water on one side. (I've sealed the other side as a precaution just in case!) I've done extensive water testing today with it still stripped and all OK, but I will put it back together later and continue testing to make sure.

  23. Thanks Rich, Yes I did reseal the feet following reading your post a few weeks back - This solved the upper leak which was appearing near the boot lift motor but not the rear boot compartment leak 🙂 Thank you for your post though as your post was certainly part of the solution!

  24. I don't see anything wrong with going out for a drive to be honest - although I'm not going to do it. How more 'socially-distanced' could you be from others when you're inside your car whizzing past them? The problem would be if you drove to a destination and then got out of the car for a walk or a chat or something, but I see nothing wrong with, say, going to the seaside and parking up on the prom to watch the sea - as long as you stay in the car - but again, I reiterate that I'm not going to do it and it's only my personal opinion.

  25. Definitely. I've got to change air filter on mine. Fuel economy was never strong point here but again it's not a reason anyone buys a v8. I'm hoping I'll have the space to keep this car as a weekend driver and have it for years to come. Hopefully won't have to swap the tranny at all. I'll probs just go to Toyota get them to change the grearbox fluid once more after this whole coronavirus bs is over and then try adding the shudder fix if needed. It happens so rarely but still I'd rather have it gone. Right now I just want to see if the gearbox plates are going to be ok. It's been 6 mnths after the incident and the gearbox is as smooth as ever other than the shudder. With all the risk and cost of swapping a gearbox i'd rather not, but will see how things go. It'd be a shame to retire this big old beast, but I think there's hope for it. It's a solid build and this engine at 110k odd miles can last another 4 times as much.

  26. Jon, I like the link ..... isn't hindsight a wonderful thing ! In olden times, Victorian and Edwardian eras in the UK, probably India and South Africa too, they understood this and most, if not all public buildings and posh houses had brass / copper door handles which is said to curtail these bugs Malc

  28. Not much progress over the last couple of days, although I have ordered quite a few parts in the meantime, so hopefully I shall be putting the braking system back together in the next few days. As far as the obstinate flexible hose connection is concerned, it eventually dawned on me, after a good night's sleep, that I could remove the retaining clip and take the hose to my workbench. Mind you, even clamped in the vice a lot of force was required to get the old union out: Having done that, I then decided to replace all the hoses anyway! I have therefore ordered them from Lexus Parts Direct, together with a new battery and other bits and pieces. I have spent a fair amount of time cleaning up the mounting studs for the brake pipe clips, ready for installation of the new pipes. I shall be using new plastic clips and stainless steel nuts, although hopefully it's not a job I have to do again. Still, somebody might appreciate it in the future. Today I took the pistons out of the calipers, using compressed air, and was pleased to find they were all in excellent condition, so I have ordered seal kits from Bigg Red. Rear calipers: Front calipers: My next job will be to remove as much flaking paint and rust from the front and rear suspension components as I can and then apply rust treatment. That will be a fun job! At least the forecast is good for the next few days, so I might as well turn the current restrictions to my advantage!

  30. I'm realistic and I know that this virus will never be gone, but by mid to late summer most of us will have had this variant and recovered. If we slow it down enough (once the idiots realise that STAY AT HOME means just that) then the NHS will be able to cope with the lower rate of infections, and therefore lower rate of seriously sick people who need ventilators and IV antibiotics, and that means that very few will be killed by it, and by "few" I mean 5,000-20,000 for the UK. What this whole debacle has made clear is that Boris can't manage his way out of a wet paper bag with a scalpel, and that the UK is populated with a very high proportion of selfish idiots. As for the effect on the economy and people's livelihoods, most will cope, some will not. Nobody wants to be in that last group but the alternative is that we carry on as normal and someone that you know or love is killed by the virus. It's not the first and will not be the last virus to spread like this has. Hopefully next time it will get acted on sooner and people may take it more seriously, but I doubt it.

  32. price answered above, its hugely dependent on the interest, if we can get 5 sets i am pretty sure they will come in cheaper than Sikky/PPE, my background is in sheet metal and fabrication and now work for a large UK car manufacturer sourcing items like this, so know what I am looking for in a supplier, these guys are top notch!! They work on some pretty nice stuff!

  33. It could be but I would imagine the previous owner had looked into repair and it wasn’t something simple like an ABS wheel sensor so chopped it in PX. As you say someone handy with the right gear could probably sort it but with a possible £1000.00 plus for an ABS block you could still be in trouble. Love to see the tech stream read out though.

  37. Nah it will be OK..... some of us will be f#'ked of course due to being in a car crashes or electrocuted, killed by bored relatives that don't like losing at monopoly or abducted by aliens as usual. Aids, Sars, chicken flu, mad cow disease or crazy Dave who lived round our way who used to steal kids so we were told didn't get us..... but nothing has had a massive impact on us really since the Spanish flu... and in those days being short because you didn't have enough to eat or kicking the bucket because you had TB or arsenic poisoning from green wallpaper that you just had to have in case the neighbours saw you had last years blue Wallpaper still up (what a fu#@king liberty). But its 2020 we are (for the most part) warm and dry in our homes with little or no damp causing respiratory problems, we all have enough food and maybe enough loo roll in the cupboard to see us through (there is always the SUN newspaper otherwise). Of course it could be the end of civilisation as we know it. But what is to be done anyway....... Its like standing in the sea watching a wave about to hit you you can panic or just watch it hit you either case there is no getting away from it... Distilled down to the very essence of the situation Chaps Stiff up lip and carry on. Either way its my Toyota Celsior and if i get the "Rona"..... i'm going to die in the car and instruct the wife to set it on fire ... I am going out like a viking

  39. I am currently commuting 315 miles to and from work on a weekly basis, allowing me plenty of opportunity to test my fuel economy. I drive up the A1 across the A66 up the M6/M74 to west Scotland. Whilst attempting this at 65MPH I averaged 37.8MPG / 70MPH 33MPG / 75-80MPH 29-32MPG. I know I have probably bought the wrong type of car for such commutes but I really like the Lexus range. I wasn't about much last summer but think I was getting more like 40MPG.

  42. Ok thought I would put my point over on this as with all cars the mpg has so much to do with the driver and how you read the road ahead , today coming home from a weekend away I reset my trip at Cherwell services on the. M40 and drove around the M25 back to East Kent and just before I got home had to fill up , was a test to see how good the fuel gauge is and as you can see from the picture only 4 mile range and the 60 ltr tank took 59.01 ltr but best of all was 58.2mpg over 2.5 hrs of motorway driving at 68mph . The best yet from my gs300h . Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC

  43. At the moment i am getting just 39 mpg from NX300h Premier. I expect that to get better as i get used to the Hybrid, the car loosens up, and i stop sitting in various car parks showing off all the gadgets to my envious friends.
