  1. Hello to everyone, I am 69 years young I have had 3 toyota rav4s spanning the last nearly 25 yrs and still have one, going through something of a late life crisis always dreamed of Lexus but could not afford one, decided to look for a weekend soft top that would accommodate my small dog (a havanese) so I am now the very proud owner of an Sc 430🤔will try and put up photos when I learn how, technically I am a bit thick!

  2. Taking advantage of not having to work at the moment. First job I tacked was to change the diff oil. No idea when it was last done (if ever). But I think you can have a good guess based on the colour. I was going to be changing out the ATF but the fill plug is buried so deep in the tunnel I can't get a socket on it and I have no 24mm spanners. I've ordered one and will have to wait until that arrives. In other news, I hate this brake disc. The car is currently still on jack stands because this refuses to come off. I've ordered a brake disc puller (which was not cheap) and a big ole' hammer (which was). Hopefully I can get this off with a bigger hammer then the one I have so I don't have to fork out money on this puller. Cross your fingers for me, because after all that hammering I can't cross mine anymore.

  4. Question is....did you eventually find the clips or was it a case of tentatively asking the other half “You know those clips I bought, have you seen them anywhere” then increase social distancing while waiting for a response. 😀

  5. Crumbs Andy, you've been giving that disk some beating! The disk appears to be slightly rotated and catching on the studs but even so, it shouldn't need too much 'persuasion' to release. Is the bell broken around one of the alignment screws? - can you drive a chisel between the bell and the hub to pop it off? If you have an angle grinder, then try cutting slots or wedges out on either side of the hub, to help pry it free. Good luck and let us know how you get on 🤞

  6. No doubt it's largely down to age (although some younger people are attracted) but I like to listen to songs/music mainly pre 1980 when songs had a good melody, were clearly annunciated and not just a noise! Here is one by Matt Monroe, regarded by many as good as if not better than Sinatra and possibly the best male singer of his genre that England has produced. Llisten to perfect pitch, tone and clarity. Nice scenery and the Muira From 'The Italian Job.'

  7. The accelerator does work in drive with your foot on the brake, but it has to be pushed further than normal to get the engine to start and then run at medium revs. It does not increase the revs if more accelerator is applied. When in this mode the outer ring of the planetary gear is held still along with MG2. With the engine running it then forces MG1 to spin at speed generating electricity to charge the HV battery. All the Toyota/Lexus hybrids operate in this manor. If you use "P" the engine will charge the battery to a low level then turn off once the engine is warm. It will then restart if the HV battery gets lower on charge or the engine cools below a given level. The charge rate in this mode is slow because the engine is at it's tick over speed, and does not generate much electricity. It will also not top the battery up to the full bar level, but usually to the 3 or 4 bar level. John.

  8. I actually ordered some PB Blaster already. Usually only sold in the US but I found a UK seller, should be here tomorrow. It's supposed to eat through the rust. Never tried it so lets see if it works. Either way I've ordered a 14lb sledge hammer and a brace disc puller - that's going to be my last resort as it was quite expensive. Hopefully I can hammer it out and return the puller. Doubt I'll ever need it again.

  9. I am definitely more fortunate than neighbours reagrding work scenario and it really is an out of blue moment! The car is safe for me, as I am guaranteed my basic pay, but considering I make that again in overtime, I've had a large reduction in incomings. I can still afford the F and other bills with my monthly pay overall, but it leaves little room for 'rainy day scenarios', the F has just been serviced and MOT'd (through service plan), tax and insurance renewal are due tomorrow, so SORN right now saves me £1k immediately so a no brainer! Got an Abarth Biposto (swear word I know), that costs me next to nothing to run in the mean time, should I need to get anywhere 😄 I applied for the finance holiday (still pending) only because I intend to buy the F at the end of the agreement, so saving money right now benefits me more and I'll just work a smidge harder when we get back to normal to cover the slight increase to final payment!

  10. Just thought I'd chime in - my GS450h was parked in a garage for 12 months untouched. It was connected to a wall charger to keep the (then) factory 12V battery topped up. As it entered hibernation, it was 10 years old, had done 105k miles, had half tank fuel, tyres at 40psi all round, and hybrid battery showed 4 blue bars. I just parked it up and didn't lock it with the fob. When I got back to it a year later, the factory 12V battery had depleted anyways and tyres had lost between 10-15psi each. After a new 12V battery, it started right away and hybrid battery still showed 4 blue bars 🙂 Rear tyres had flat-spotted (Michelin Pilot Super Sports with 3mm left), but the fronts were perfect (Pirelli something, newer pair with ~7mm). Aircon gasses had escaped (yet the system passed the pressure test prior to regassing - strange). Also never needed regassing in the 2 years that it was running thereafter. The car has just been SORN'd again and parked up in the garage as above, but as I'll remain in the country and home-bound this time, I plan to keep the tyres topped up for a change 🙂

  11. It looks as though I spoke to soon about the parking brake being OK. Although I, a mere human, cannot turn the rear hubs with the parking brake on, a 4 litre V8 seems to have no problem at all! Looking at the MoT history, this has been mentioned for several years, either as an advisory or a reason for failure. Because the parking brake does respond to the pedal, I am assuming the cables are not seized, but an investigation and lubrication would not go amiss. Knowing me I will probably end up doing some dismantling as well. Other than that, It is "just" a question of adjustment, and I have found some very useful information on a topic raised in 2012, which should help enormously. I include my notes on what I found out. 17. I still remember seeing my first NSX on the road (as a kid), not sure I've seen one since. A truly iconic car, designed with help from one hell of a driver.

  18. Indeed, one of my customers a very wealthy chap who ran an engineering company had one, he also had a four post lift in his garage. I took my Esprit over one day and we put our cars on the ramps for a good look. The NSX had lovely aluminium wishbones and everything as you would expect from Honda was engineered to the highest standard. My Esprit on the other hand was cheap pressed parts, underneath the Lotus looked like a kit car (I have fallen out with a lot of Lotus fan-boys because I have always said the Esprit and many other models of that era are just a nano hair away from a kit -car) From a cost point of view my customer friend couldn't see how Honda could make any money on them. The same was true with my Honda Rune motorbike they were reported to have cost Honda USA $120K each to make and they retailed them for $30K just to prove they could make such a thing and I guess to a certain degree the NSX was very similar.

  19. Any disc I fit gets a big helping of copper grease on the hub so this doesn't happen again. I've had my fair share of difficult disc removals but nothing like this. I don't have an angle grinder but I really hope it doesn't come to that. I've never used one and knowing my luck I'll end up removing a finger! I've ordered this tool designed for brake disc removal, but it cost over £100 if you can believe that. I'm hoping this is a last resort as I've also ordered a nice big sledge hammer. The picture on Amazon filled me with confidence 😆 Hopefully if that works I can return the disc puller tool.

  20. I had same problem years ago on a Cavalier SRi and ended up using a 4 1/2" angle grinder and getting it off in pieces, from that day any disc I fit gets a smear of grease on the back after a good clean of the mating surfaces! paul m

  22. I've ordered a brake disc puller but it wasn't cheap at over £100. I've ordered a much bigger hammer I'm going to try first so hopefully I won't need the puller and I can return it. Tried that over and over. I've never known anything like it, I'm quite sore today!

  23. Good luck with all that, I have told my wife on several occasions that she would go before I sell any of my cherished possessions, never goes down well that comment I've found to my cost. As I mentioned I lived through mortgage rates of 17% and ran my company through two very difficult and severe down-turns in the economy. You get through these things in the end, but afterwards you are a bit wiser, poorer and have have better understanding of the saying sh*t happens, if you are smart enough you learn so the next time sh*t happens you're a bit better prepared.

  26. Funny you should say that. There was a funny noise coming from the front of the car. I pulled over and you'd never believe it, but there, stuck right in the grill was one of those Toyota RC-F things. Can only think it had got sucked in. Poor little thing. Never mind, it wasn't a Carbon edition, just one of the poverty spec'd Blue ones.

  30. I suppose its good to have it confirmed that there factory seam sealing product was rubbish! There are no oaks on the back end now for me, I replaced my gas struts last month and when I did that I used sealant underneath along with thread lock / seal on the bolts to make sure! I'm happy that no water is getting in anywhere from roof rail or side channels or bumper area now and is all completely dry. I did however find a bit of a strange one, on a water test today I found a new very tiny leak but this hopefully was from an obvious source. the small plastic trim around the rear quarter window was coming away from the body, I carefully removed and found there are 4 plastic clips which hold it to the body and then lots of double sided tape. The tape had failed and water was getting in here. I cleaned the panel up and used some good tape to hold back on and put a little sealant in the holes as well to try and close any potential future issues even if the tape fails again! So far I have... - Sealed the roof bar foot (and used locktite to seal the bolt threads) - Sealed the top welded seam in line with the roof bar - Sealed the seam just above the foot of the gas strut - Sealed the gas strut foot and used locktite to seal the bolt thread - had bumper and rear lights out and re sealed all seams. the plastic cover between light and boot edge is not held on by the light only, i have removed all its trim clips and screws and sealed the holes up. - Sealed the lights -Replaced rear boot rubber -Re secured and sealed rear quarter light trim My only area for concern now could be the fuel filler cap rivets. I don't think there an issue as I spent a long time water testing them today, But... The photo I posted a few days where I asked what the weird mettle ball looking things are I think come from the back of the rivets that hold the fuel filler cap on. I'm not sure if water getting in here would find its way into the boot or just leave straight out the bottom of the car, but Ill give it another extensive test tomorrow when my window sealant has dried.

  31. Why all the panic and worry? All the shops I have seen the last couple of days (getting supplies for those house bound) have been full of stock and you are able to buy just about everything (including Loo Roll). Plenty of drink available as well. Negative false stories caused and will cause panic buying again. Calm down!

  33. No problem, I’ve tried to find the clips I bought but I can’t find them anywhere! I need to turn the garage and the house upside down to find them but I may have left them at work. I don’t think I have though, I may have thrown them away somehow and will be a bit miffed if I have. They weren’t expensive but at the moment I may not be able to get some more. Anyway some more pics below.

  34. You could just about get into the Evora 410 Sport for that money. Wouldn't loose a great deal but if you hung on you may get a 410 GT. For the money you get back to the basics of excellent, superb yes superb road holding and feel, at the price of iffy bits falling off it or not working but the Toyota engine is a gem.

  35. Indeed, having lived through interest rates at 17% and managing to keep my house plus two pretty tough down turns I've learned to be a bit cautious. I've only recently sold my business and feel for anyone caught up in this. I really don't think things will recover for a very long time.
