I was talking to a furloughed employee the other day. He's a bit of a motoring enthusiast as we all are but currently bored out of his mind. The conversation turned to machine polishing, I haven't got the patience but he's and avid detailer. He offered to do the GS and after a bit of arm twisting on me came up to work yesterday. I left him to it for about 4 hours and I have to say the finish is absolutely outstanding. The metallic flake is a revelation. Unfortunately I don't think the pictures do it justice but the car looks superb!3 points

Hi After 25 years of Saabs thought I should dip my toe into another pond. Bought car yesterday and drove 80 miles home, averaging 36mpg. Perfectly happy with that. Owner's manual says tpms reset button under steering wheel. It ain't. Currently has some lairy big 20inch rims and skinny tyres. Are OEM wheels easy to get hold of? Needs 100k service. Any advantage with Lexus main dealer over Toyota? Or any good indy in West Sussex.1 point

Hi- sorry to create a new thread. I have looked high and low on forums, but have not been able to find an answer. I have Rx400H- 2008 model, for about 4 weeks both the front and back parking sensors are not working- there is no audible beep. The reverse camera is working as normal Is there something that I have done to disable the audible sensor and what is the solution Kind Regards1 point

Hi guys I'm now on the lookout for an Ls400, preferably a mk4 with lpg, but I will also consider one without lpg. I'd prefer to buy one of a member on here I'm almost to full fitness now, so I want to treat myself. I was looking at w126, but I don't know anything about them, so I'll stick with Lexus. Thanks1 point

Hey guys, I hope you are well? I made a video on things you didn't (or some of you may) know about the Lexus IS F. I thought some of you might appreciate a V8 distraction during this quarantine time? Ps this is my friend's 2013 IS F and I love the Ultrasonic blue colour! Stay safe, Thomas1 point

I’m also considering this option Phil like you say a bit more money but comeback if something major happens, I am also looking at importing one myself. This is the price shipped into Bristol with A1 condition. https://carfromjapan.com/cheap-used-toyota-celsior-2003-for-sale-5e754d8313518deb9ce641781 point

So just to update that it was just a little more force needed to release the steering lock, turning it clockwise, but not much more, perhaps one of those weird things?. I noticed when the steering returned to its rest position again that the wheel appeared to give a slight click to the left just before it stopped? I started/stopped it a few more times and the movement of the wheel (e.g. twist left at the end before stopping) seems to have stopped and I've had no problems turning the barrel since - so all good and I'll know what to watch out for if it recurs. I'll be sure to keep the battery charged while we are so little able to use our cars - no doubt the DVLA are working out how much they can refund us all on our road tax!1 point

Good nice to know you have no drone, didn't have any either when I swapped the exhaust on my old IS200 sport for a stainless steel one(did insist I wanted it as close to stock as possible)will go for one when the exhaust on my is250 f sport gives up and by the way nice looking car👍👍1 point

They are as you mention generally lower mileage, well looked after and in better condition than UK cars, no road salt helps along with the warmer climate, usually 1 or 2 previous owners.1 point

As the old saying goes, 'prevention is better than cure', which is why I use a great big yellow Stoplock Pro Elite steering wheel lock. It's not pretty and it can be a bit of a pain to keep putting it on and taking it off, but the whole idea is to make the ne'r-do-wells take one look at the car, think that it's not worth the hassle, and move on to an easier target. And it works, as you'll see from the video below. I'm not soft but I'm not stupid either; if someone breaks into the house and comes barging into the bedroom for the keys, not only will I hand them over but I'll tie them up in a presentation bow as well if it stops either of us being attacked, but as I said, the whole idea is to deter the scrotes and make them move on. The reviews for the Stoplock I use said that it took more than five minutes of attacking the thing with hammers, chisels and saws before it was defeated - that's five minutes of noise and aggro that the scrotes don't want.1 point

I'd be more tempted to buy one with petrol in it! Can't understand why companies can have the outlay of stocking an 18k car take the time and effort to present it as such but can't stick 20quid of fuel in so the light is off in the adverts! Pet hate!1 point

Hi Malc, The front doors are fine, but both rear doors have a couple of very small rusty areas under the trim, and it looks like one of the trim clips has detached itself from the trim. Having watched a YouTube video on how to remove the trim it looks fairly straightforward, although a bit long winded. It hasn't got worse over the last few years, so I'm not overly concerned, but it is something I will tackle later. Howard1 point

Driving it again! Managed to show 49mpg after a 15 mile hypermile effort. Definitely going to put original wheels back on. Had a chat with a tyre place today.1 point

we take our cars out alternately to do essential shopping , pharmacy and the like ...... now once a week for each car, Ls400 and the Honda Legend .......... even that didn't stop the Honda battery not starting the other day ...... new in August 2018 and new alternator a few months ago too ............ sodding cars ................ but the beautiful Lexus seems to be fine with it's once a week outing thankfully ... long may the cars stay safe and " in order " and be ok with their " resting up " Malc I Social Distanced with my neighbour who put the Honda battery on trickle charge overnight for me in his workshop ... good to have kind neighbours1 point

This is the first Japanese car I have worked on and, by and large, it has been pretty straightforward. Obviously any car over 20 years old is going to have issues, but this particular one, despite the lack of proactive care and maintenance, and having lived outside for 24 years, does seem to have survived quite well. For example, the rubbers and aluminium trim are still good, whereas on the equivalent aged Mercedes the anodised aluminium trim will be starting to go cloudy. There is no rust in the doors, and there only appears to be superficial rust underneath (suspension components excepted), whilst a Mercedes will most likely have rusty front wings, jacking points and inner rear wheel arches. The plastic interior trim seems more robust than Mercedes, and is pretty straightforward to dismantle, and so far nothing has broken, which has not always been the case on my previous projects. However, a particular bugbear of mine is the use of steel brake pipes. I have done about six Mercedes of various ages, and have had to replace the rear pipes because the connection to the flexible hose has corroded into one unit. At least the connections on the Lexus were not that bad, and the hoses were still servicable after 24 years, although I replaced them anyway. I still ended up replacing the rear pipes because one had rusted through. Overall, if I had to choose, I would prefer to work on a Lexus. However, the lack of parts support from Toyota for what, for them, is a landmark model can be a bit frustating. On the other hand, due to the effort they put into designing and building the car, it could be argued that less parts might be needed.1 point

I purchased one of those a few months ago from Amazon but found the voltage reading on the display was 0.2v lower than what my meter read at the clips. Returned it as it could overcharge and damaged the battery if it thinks the voltage is lower than reality. May have just been a faulty one but sometimes you get what you pay for.1 point

Yes they came with concentric rings made of plastic/nylon material but seem to do the trick. I am not going to use the spacers as these would fill the flange on the hubs meaning the wheel would just be suspended on the nuts I think🤔1 point

If you can't get Denso try valeo blades, they are pretty good. The bosch ones I tried previously split after a couple of months.1 point

I think the extended warranty from Lexus is worth while, I've had it on my old RX400h and did use it once. I'm about to buy a RX450h SE-L that is 9.5 years old and 112k on it. It has a full lexus history so i'm eligable to buy it. I like the peace of mind that comes with and also the service plan is good value for money.1 point

I think the DISP button on the steering wheel toggles through the different display options. There is the one you have now, battery monitor, bar graph for instant mpg etc.1 point

Cobwebs, shocking.🤪 I cleaned mine at the weekend and needed to turn it round to Hoover the boot. It took me 20 minutes before I found a safe place for a u turn. 👍 Got home and had to wash again. There are worse things to be doing on an otherwise uninteresting weekend.1 point

I bought a mint set of the blade design from @NothernDan (thanks Dan) as spares but thay are so nice I haven't dared to put them on the car. 😬 I ended up having my own wheels refurbished instead......and then went and scuffed one of the rears. 😫 so will maybe swap sometime soon. That said I do like the later design you have but have never seen a set for sale. Can a man have too many spare shiney wheels I wonder 🤔1 point

On other Posts, I noticed members suffering the same problem as me with unexpected flat batteries after leaving car for a few days without a run. After some investigation, I found that the Smart Key system puts a drain on the Car Battery. The way to combat the drain is to turn off the Smart Key system and only use the Radio Signal on the key to open and lock the doors. To switch off the Smart Key system, go to page 53 on the car handbook and follow the instructions. Its a very difficult procedure, as you have to lie on your back and put your face into the underside of the console on the Drivers side. I was unable to do it because of age and health problems, but my son found the button and switched off the Key System. No problems with starting since that was done.1 point

After two weeks and not many miles I have a slow puncture in one of my crappy tyres. As rears are 280 wide and a bit over circumference they show signs of rubbing. Decided to keep the 20 inch wheels as they do look nice and are solid forged aluminium so should not flake like stock wheels do. However, I will maintain as close a rolling circumference to OEM as possible. Will have to be 245/30 R20. Going to spend big on tyres. Cannot bring myself to buy Landsail at £80 a tyre fitted. 4 bits of quality rubber are going to to cost the best part of a grand. My local down the road garage cannot fit 20 inch wheels on their tyre machine either.1 point

Excellent! And looks in remarkably good condition. Keep us posted. Especially regarding how much easier they are to work on than German cars1 point

Yes an import and also they would say the car was high performance at 210 bhp, so i buy a 340bhp gs and the cut the price in half, the mind boggles0 points
