  1. I basically use EV mode for moving the NX on the driveway to avoid starting it up to move a few feet. Other than that, there is little point in activating it. I need to move the NX to get the LC out... ๐Ÿ˜„

  3. I've used Sainbury's petrol in mine since I bought it 3 years ago and no issues. The problem is all the pottering about. Save your money on fancy fuels and injector cleaners and just give it a good old Italian tune up.

  4. Now that really is OCD! Is there a crack in the adjoining part, I think I can see? Twenty year old car and if that the only OCD thingy then you've got a bargain. Personally I'd not want to remove parts for fear of causing further damage. rear clips break etc. Touch up paint would for me be the way to go - after very careful checking to get exact match. A bit of tromp l'oiel. But then, I'm a cheapskate! ps looking at younger Jap Crown Majesta's the wood trim is peeling away and multple cracks to the Upper foam covered plastic. Good luck with your search

  5. Agree. And sorting out means not just clearing the codes, but resolving the underlying cause.

  6. Thanks very much for the input. Lee, I do have a chrome front grill but of course you wouldn't see the wheels properly from the front. I've got Wheelcraft in Sleaford booked to do the full refurb at ยฃ80 a wheel plus vat. I have to say, I love the look of the smoked chrome Nemesis!

  7. mechanical brakes only work at speeds of 7mph or less and in an emergency situation the car can sense its an emergency by the speed / pressure applied to the brake pedal.

  8. LS's are great and if you get a good one it will go on and on. Why not just try and find one without warning lights on? A few more miles on the clock would be fine (as long as its got a water-tight service record) if that helps to bring a few more cars in budget. (If this is the only one you can find in budget with that sort of mileage then for me that rings a few alarm bells in itself).

  10. Agree. My 90+ mother's fridge has just finally given up. It was 50 years old and never had any maintenance etc., at all. AC is self-service - run it regularly.

  11. Probably not that, but for this reason: Aircon servicing is basically snake oil, designed to make money for the companies who carry it out. I cannot find any advice that is impartial, only advice by companies who actually carry out aircon servicing and, of course, they are going to say that you should have it done every two years or so aren't they? The aircon system is sealed. Nothing can get in and nothing can get out unless there is a fault or problem of some kind and that will usually manifest itself by the system beginning to make noises or not getting as cold as it used to do. That's when you take it somewhere to have it investigated, regassed, or whatever, but the idea of taking it for a 'routine service' every couple of years is an absolute con designed to relieve you of your money. Adverts will often say that part of the service is to "take out the "old" refrigerant and replace it with "new"" - but refrigerant doesn't degrade or 'wear out' - it just 'is'. As an aside, my granny's fridge is 30 years old and the refirgerant still makes it cold as ice in there! The system seals are lubricated by the compressor oil and again, they don't wear out or degrade unless there's a leak and the system loses oil - but again, that would show in not getting as cold as it used to. Anecdotal evidence from friends and family shows that not a single one of them has ever had a 'routine aircon service' and not a single one of them has ever had aircon problems.

  14. I'm sure it could all have been sorted but as he just paid 3k to sort a Mercedes oil leak I can understand his hesitation. As far as I know he'll still be open to another but again it would have to be a main dealer car.

  17. My car and most others have had these recalls. The o ring is at the back of the engine, and the inlet manifold has to come off. I had my plugs done at this time while every thing was off. The air bags cover a multitude of vehicles and is the near side front glove box one. Both jobs done in a day.

  18. Ok, itโ€™s decided, nose down for sure. Tried parking nose up today, with the 30 degree heat, this expanded the catch on the centre console (armrest) storage unit, so it flipped open of itโ€™s own accord and set the alarm off! Looks like even a Lexus has its own set of design flaws, albeit a very small one ๐Ÿ˜‚

  20. Really? Do ye not just go for a drive in the evenings? I have put on 6,000 miles on my ISF since January. About 80% of it was unnecessary. If I only drove the car where I "needed to" I would have probably covered less than 2000. What's stopping you driving it?

  21. Thanks again guys. Good points there Steve, grateful for your input. Holy crap - I called both dealers and the first car already has someone looking at it today and the blue one is gone. I did not realise IS cars are that popular. While I deliberated, others acted! I lost out on 2 cars - lesson learned. Tomorrow I am going to see this one - reading Norm's buying guide and other posts from members. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202006039777190 The car had sparks changed and some filters from the photos of service the owner sent me. Do you think the price is good or do you think I can offer him 6900 without offending the buyer? Cheers!

  22. A while ago I spoke to a member of the Federation Of Automatic Transmission Engineers http://www.fedauto.co.uk/ I wanted a little advice regarding my GS. Changing the transmission fluid was one of those jobs that everyone on forums bangs on about but is usually (imo) dismissed by dealers and independents as unnecessary. Not only did he say he couldn't remember the last time he'd had to work on a Lexus gearbox but also he was extremely reluctant to recommend fluid changes on a high mileage/older car that had previously no history of such changes. Buy a brand new car and change the fluid every 20k, fill yer boots, keeps everything fresh. But start changing the fluid on a gearbox that has been performing perfectly well for the last 15 years/150k miles and you run the risk of disturbing something the magnets don't catch, especially as fresh transmission oil has additional cleaning properties. He also said flushes were a big no no. I'm just repeating what he said, obviously it's up to Peter. There is a big BUT. Lockdown had just started, I was really bored, so I changed the fluid anyway Oh, and there's another but. My car was only 500 quid and I keep that in mind. If I have to throw it away I'll be upset but it won't be the end of the world. Re: snake oil, air con servicing and transmission fluid changes. Surely if dealers were so keen on relieving you of ยฃยฃยฃ then they'd offer fluid changes too?

  26. I just love driving and quite often take myself out and around the Cotswolds, just for the hell of it! Can be gone for a couple of hours at a time, glorious countryside, great roads. Can't be that far from you in Oxfordshire? If one loves driving one doesn't need a reason to go out. If the car isn't costing you, just to have it sat at home, then hang on a while maybe your enthusiasm will return?

  27. Id say to the seller you will buy, if they sort out the warning lights once you have a satisfactory test drive. You really need to view/drive the car. May be more faults, like AC, not working etc. I wouldn't of put any deposit down, without viewing/test drive. I'm very untrusting of all dealers and Garages. Service as said is probably oil/filter change, if they do it! I would rather do it myself, so know what oil and filter has been used. The LS is a nice car. Would of liked one myself but insurance 1k for me! Around 10 years ago I was looking for a Volvo 940 estate. Advertised as full service history, one owner, drives faultless. Immaculate. Pictures looked ok. Spoke to dealer and all sounded great. Arrived at car. It was unlocked. Stunk of dog. Boot all stained. popped bonnet and no coolant in reservoir. Absolutely filthy engine bay, leaking oil, old service items. Head gasket staining down block. A right shed. 60 miles wasted! James.

  29. To be honest, I prefer a v8, but I needed a car ASAP, and this came up close to where I live, it drives like a brand new car, it's very clean aswell, it has 60434km which is around 34000 miles I think, or thereabouts, it also has a parking pole, ๐Ÿ˜‚ it looks odd when it pops up

  34. Good Morning Phil many thanks for your reply - the download was not finished yesterday as I had anticipated. The problem appears to be that Lexus share a site with Toyota and during the day so many people are trying to access the internet the system, which is antiquated, cannot cope. The service manager left his laptop at work downloading the update and he has just told me it took 6 hours!!! A technician did the download at home last night and processed in just over an hour which fully supports your comments. The update is at this moment being downloaded to my vehicle. I have battered them with the detail you gave me and they realise they have to pressure Toyota into updating a fit for purpose system citing my case as a typical example. He fully accepted the poor customer service to which I have been subject and understands the embarrassment of users at home being able to out perform Lexus. Expect to get the car back later today and trust when the Autumn update comes around they are better equipped to deal with the request. The performance, or lack of, has resulted in my being offered a free first service by way of a sweetener. Appreciate the sentiment of your suggestion, under different circumstances, of driving up to J31 for your assistance. Again many thanks - helped me and Lexus enormously Tony Withnall

  35. A CT is more economical that a GS! I would see over 500+ miles on my old IS300h when filling up. The calculation is mainly based on your economy over the last calculation period, which is a period of time/distance much smaller period than the full tank. Therefore if you have averaged 60+ mpg over the last 50 miles say, the full tank average would be well into the 500s.

  40. I just changed out to the Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 5 for the F Sport. the road noise and ride comfort has transformed the car. However tyres are extremely subjective from owner to owner but my reasoning is, Value, Brand and performance all gives an equal balance. Best head over to Tyre Reviews and do a little desktop research. I'm sure this thread will mention Michelin, Contis, Dunlops, Bridgestone and maybe Toyo ๐Ÿ™ƒ and of course other brands I haven't mentioned ๐Ÿ˜€

  42. The health check tests the cooling system, runs the fans at full speed to check operation but the exact efficiency isn't tested. It is important not to block the vents and each vent goes to an individual battery pack, not a common air channel, so blocking one have an effect. The fan will run fast, and eventually the system will stop hybrid operations to protect the battery. I'm sure it won't hurt to clean the fans but most dirt would get held at the front of the battery near the vent, or throughout the battery - ideally you would want to clean the whole system not just the fans. If the efficiency of the cooling system is down, you will hear the fans spinning faster and for longer. If you aren't experiencing that then you may not benefit from cleaning.

  45. Interestingly a friend of mine was planning to buy an LC500 from a main dealer just last week, 11k on the clock, but when they did a 150 point pre sale check they found an oil leak so had to remove it from sale! To say he was disappointed is an understatement.

  46. I agree with everything Colin says/asks but can you also identify which wire when 'wiggled' causes it to connect? Is it the blue and white wire perhaps? I think that will be the head unit to amp remote turn on.

  47. possibly a bad solder joint on the connector socket, a cracked track on the board near the connector, the pins on the plug need to be bent to give a better mechanical connection, or a break in one of the cables near the connector plug. Are you able to take a close up of the just the one PCB connector which is causing problems, rather than a picture of the whole board - both top and bottom.
