  1. The lack of noise when the car is accelerated hard seems a common fault for most owners. This feature only seems to work for motoring journalists. Glad you are enjoying the car. Welcome to the enlightened minority. Paul Thanks Paul

  2. okay, I have ordered the gates kit (Bit more than the Aisin, But just personal choice - used Gates in the past on other motors and never had a problem) Works out to about 166 pounds including pre paid customs. Not bad.

  3. My car went to 60k service this Monday, and the dealer told me that the water pump was leaking. They quoted about £390 for the pump replacement, which isn’t crazy, but I decided to do it myself. Not quite because of the cost, but water pump leaking in 60k miles seems a bit too quick, and I wonder why. When I took the pump out, it isn’t the gasket nor the belt, but Leaking from the bearing. I checked YouTube, seems like Camry with the same engine has this problem too. I went for a third party pump (First Line, about £70 from eBay) rather than original pump. I think as the original pump wasn’t that reliable anyway, 3th party one may last longer. If it fail again, it isn’t that hard to replace the pump.

  4. Hi All Here is the update on my Lexus RX 450H F Sport, tow bar fitting of the under tray/tyres. The dealership now have after me standing firm about the tyres decided to fit new tyres, that's after their so called care consultant came out and said ,WHAT' WRONG WITH THEM THEN ,I'D DRIVE ON THEM ALL DAY LONG ON MY CAR !. It was only after he walked off looking smug with himself ,that I asked my salesman for his name and position that's when the salesman said wait ill talk to the dealership principal , within minutes they changed their minds to fit new tyres and under tray and wash and valet the car properly. "sounds good" is it me or what , yes they have done a really better job but still look at the gap behind the toe bar socket box their said it has been done to specifications , but surely any good fitter would check and see that it's still leaving a big gap and just not cut so much out ???? see pic's I asked for the off cut's minutes after them sending me the pic's so I could fill in the gap , but their seem to have gone with the rubbish already ! Yes I will except it now , but as someone said earlier £1200 is a lot of money for a tow bar you would a least expect a perfect job from a main dealer.

  6. When I acquired my 1996 80,000 mile LS400 in March, I also asked Lexus Milton Keynes about changing the transmission fluid, knowing it had never been done, but they advised against it on the basis that they had changed fluid at the owners request before and there had been issues thereafter. When I checked the fluid on the dipstick it was still a nice red colour, so I decided to leave well alone, especially as the gearbox behaves perfectly. When the fluid is brown with a burnt smell is the time to be concerned, so it's best to check the fluid every time the engine oil is checked.

  8. Far better quality. Toyota original equipment (OE) bushings have some sort of reinforcement fabric in them, and after market ones not. Bushings from Febi and Beck & Arnley will crack prematurely. For example, Febest makes good ones for the Lexus Rx450h

  9. If it was pure BS then you wouldn't have any cold air at all. First of all, if the system is meant to have 100g of R134 and 8g of oil, are you sure that you got those respective amounts out? If not, but you actually did put that amount back in, then you'll obviously have too much in there. However, while that may not be a good thing for any amount of reasons, I really don't think that that would cause the symptoms that you're seeing. The fact that you have cold air on one side but not the other would suggest a problem with a siezed servo or a stuck blending flap or something like that, not the actual AC system itself. Another possibility, if the car has dual temp/climate controls so that driver and passenger can choose their own temps, is that the temperature sensor (if it has one) on the driver's side may have gone faulty.

  13. The design of the DAB tuning system is even worse than the mpg presets! (I don't want to put you off the car; almost everything else on the car is delightful but the DAB radio tuning is dreadful.) Here's a link to an earlier thread where someone else was struggling to make it work. The problem is that you have to choose which Ensemble or Multiplex you want to get stations from. If this Ensemble is out of range, you'll get nothing until you choose another Ensemble. I didn't know what an Ensemble or Multiplex was when I started but eventually discovered that it's a collection of stations combined into a single digital stream. Have a look at the earlier discussion linked to above if you want to read some more background. Otherwise, this is what I wrote at the time, copied and pasted to save you looking for the main instructions. This works on my car, but of course your model may be different in some way. "Using the Audio Controller (that's the one to the left of the gear selector), starting from the DAB screen, move the Controller wheel to the right and then select "Manual". Instead of the list of stations, you should now see the name of one station, preceded by the name of an "Ensemble". You may already know what an ensemble or a multiplex is - I didn't before I had to grapple with this system. More on this later. If you still see "Signal Unavailable" this means that this "Ensemble" or group of stations is out of range so you need to switch to one that is in range. On the radio itself, press the small button labelled with a right arrow (I expect left works just as well). This should take you to the next Ensemble, where you may have some reception. Give it four or five seconds to decide whether it's working or the signal is still unavailable. If it's also unavailable, press the arrow button again to try the next one until you get a working station. If none of the stations work, the problem is elsewhere but if one of them does go on to step 3. Move the Audio Controller to the right and then select Stations. A list of the stations on this Ensemble should now appear. You can select from them using the Audio Controller, the arrow buttons or the tuning knob." When you've found the stations you want (ie Radio 4!) save it on a preset. Then you can forget about selecting Ensembles.

  15. May I throw this thought into the ring, please? The final para of the quoted post is very similar to me unfortunately driving 9 hours round-trip to Southwest Lexus, near Bristol. PLEASE EVERYONE AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE COVID 19. The black LS is still advertised (location Yate) on other sites. In reality, despite the proprietors encouraging words in the advert and having spoken to him on the phone, I found this car to actually have 1) a damaged lower N/S/R door 2) an alloy that needed robust remedial work 3) a cracked windscreen 4) a piece missing from top of the central console missing and 5) the car noticeably pulled to the left on the test drive. He said that these were insignificant or he hadn’t noticed them - ahem! The vendor was a hook and an utter chancer. He is still trading adding aRange Rover recently to his collection of dubious cars. Look up his Company’s status on Companies Hse website. I believe seeing, smelling, touching and driving is believing. Trust me I’m (regrettably) living proof. Take NO chances would be my advice. Good luck 👍

  16. I'm not over familiar with Mercedes so I don't know the model, although I've traveled in it. It's a diesel engine with the typical Range Rover type body, and I remember him saying it's something like a 2.4 but I'm not certain. The problem wasn't the part which was cheap, it was the labour accessing it. As I recall it was a 15 reg. Probably a 4Matic thinking about it.

  17. The engine bay is indeed a more hostile environment but as far as I'm aware the refrigerant gas and oil don't degrade or change their composition or structure in any way because of that environment. I've never had a routine AC service done on any of my cars and I've never had an AC problem. I had my previous car for over 10 years and the AC got as icy cold on the day I sold it as it was on the day I bought it, as all my cars have. Again, as far as I'm aware, I don't think there is any filter within the sealed system but I may be wrong. I would imagine that statistically you'll cause more problems by opening a sealed system to do routine servicing than occur naturally without interference.

  18. I can't help but muse on the fact that this thread has been revived after eighteen years...which is far longer than a childhood is! Anyway, loads for me but the ones that stick in my mind are those American shows broadcast after Grandstand and World of Sport; The Fall Guy Six Million Dollar Man CHiPs The Dukes of Hazzard Airwolf Also the classic cartoons that don't seem to be shown these days. Pepe Le Pew, Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy Gonzales were particular favourites. And who could forget TISWAS on a Saturday morning. I still have the album on vinyl...

  19. The actual usable battery capacity is is 40% "zero bars to all green bars". The maximum discharge level is 40% of capacity, and the maximum charge level is 80% of capacity. The normal cycle life of quality NiMh batteries is about 1000 cycles "fully charged to fully discharged. By only using the narrow charge cycle range of 40% increases the cycle life to many hundreds of thousands cycles. One of the anomalies of the system is that if you are going downhill with a fully charged battery the engine will spin at speed to dump power. On putting your foot on the accelerator the engine will slow down or stop as the car uses electricity to increase the called for extra speed. John.

  20. Exactly this. We only see the usable capacity. Mine often goes to full bars after coasting downhill.

  22. I have it on my SE-I, so would assume an SE-L premier would have it... Roll the window down half way and run your finger on the edge of the glass and you will feel a ridge, if you look closely you will see 2 panes of glass. It was my pdr guy that pointed this out me. The video link probably explains it better than I can.
