Personally I'd look at absolutely the best 400h you can find and maybe save a bit of money. If you're patient you'll get an absolutely mint, low mileage, low owner FLSH late 400h for a less than £10k. Personal preference obviously but I'd take a low mileage 400h over a higher mileage 450h. Dear All, Many thanks for all your replies, much appreciated. With half a tank of Sainsburys fuel, I've filed up the tank with Shell Vpower and went for a 350 miles round trip. Gave it the "Italian tune up" ( I really missed that V6 sound and the dials turning up red!), and the car now feels a lot more responsive and idles as usual. I'm not expecting to return back to the office until September / October and will be working a lot more from home, so I guess we have to now wait and see whether the car reverses to being sluggish anytime soon. It maybe a case of giving it the Italian tune up every now and again. Regards, Lexusisfan

The blue one is a 59 plate but the silver is 09, so maybe 6 months older than the blue. The blue one also has a much nicer interior colour scheme too. There's a tendancy to think 'Oh I'm in no rush so I'll wait to see if something else comes along' and sometimes that's not a bad thing. However, even if the money is in the bank and there's no rush, if the right one comes along then there's just no point in waiting any longer because just maybe, nothing better will come along. If I was in the market for an RX450h of that sort of age, mileage and condition, I'd have the blue one tomorrow.

Hi. You state that you can stream music via an ipod through your radio unit. You also say when you connect a Y cable your satnav doesn't work. What socket are you connecting to at the rear of your radio? More to the point how do you manage to stream without the Y cable? Using those Bluetooth units you have they do not connect to the satnav. Their are units that do connect to the satnavs Blue socket but those units are the expensive ones like Grom and Vaistech. I suggest you use the Y connector that should have come with your Bluetooth box. If you didn't get one then ask them for a compatible one. From the rear of the radio disconnect the smaller of the plugs (the 12 pin one in 2 rows of 6). Plug that cable into the respective socket of the Y cable. Plug the Y cable plug into the radio.and then the multiplug into the Bluetooth unit. Satnav will work as normal and you should have Bluetooth and a hardwire connection. Look on YouTube for connecting a GTA car kit to RX400h. Your unit is similar but probably not as good.

I really doubt it's the ballast. I've worked with many Lexus models with D4S bulbs and all these symptoms have always been bulb issues. Ofcourse there is no guarantee that it isn't ballast, but all the experience i've had with it tells me it's the bulb. Furthermore, if it was the ballast then the offending ballast will still continue to do the same thing when you swapped the bulb. The fact that it's working temporarily on both sides means the other ballast is seeing the faulty bulb as not yet faulty but will soon see it as it begins to deteriorate.

I put some on my 400h for purely cosmetic reasons. Only had them on for a couple of months because the increased noise was just too much. They were Heko. Can't imagine the Climair ones would be any different.

My Second Hand Lexus RX300 - has cost me thousands - over the space of 2 x years - all 4 x suspension units front & back needed changing - at £1000 each thats a lot of money!!!!

That's a lot more info.......so you're having trouble at low RPM as well as on kickdown. It sounds to me as if it is time to take the car to a Lexus specialist, with all the right diagnostic kit. There are guys on here who can give you the names of the best people around in the UK. What sort of fuel are you using? Our cars (2006/2007 LS460) are on a list of Lexus models that need to use Super Unleaded (as was) or E5 (as is). I've always used the recommended fuel and had no problems. How many miles has your car done? The 430 and 460 suffer from a problem where, after time, engine coolant can get into the auto box via the oil cooler. Most of us have had a new radiator fitted - I had mine done last year at 12 years/100,000 miles. I hope you get this fixed. There is nothing worse than an intermittent problem.

I've never driven on air but been a passenger and my honest opinion is that I really can't tell much difference at all. Certainly not a 'justifiable' difference from a future repair bill point of view anyway. I would have loved to go for the Premier variant and the extra toys it has but specifically avoided it for that very reason.

Hello fellow RX Enthusiasts I have had my RX400h for 15 years and done 185,000 miles, but now upgrading to a 450h Premier. The registration number (which I bought 9 months before delivery whilst my car was on order) is a fantastic and eye catching one for a 400H - absolutely perfect for the model. It may not look quite right on a 450H so I am selling. The number is RX54OOH and with just one added space reads as RX5 4OOH. (I have never had any trouble running on show plates from time to time and the correct number comes up correct on ANPR cameras in airport carparks etc). It has been valued at £500+ but all I am asking for it is around £275 for a quick sale before my 400h goes. Who is interested??

My impression from what others have said, and indeed some have replaced the air suspension with springs due to high cost of repair, there is not a great difference in the ride quality. (In some marques air suspension makes a bit improvement according to road testers). I have no complaints about the air suspension on my 3rd Gen RX450h but in hindsight wish I had tried a version of the car without it, due to potential for future replacement of expensive air suspension parts in the future. It is interesting that Lexus dropped air suspension for the 4th Gen RX, whether due to containing costs, reliability or finding a spring/shock replacement combination that was just as good and more reliable. Really, the best thing to do is to try cars with both types of suspension and then decide if you feel any advantage of air suspension is or is notnot worth the potentially higher cost of replacement at some point.

If the plugs have not been changed recently, which with regular Lexus servicing they should have been done (again) at 120K and you should be able to check this back with Lexus servicing garage, they should be done to optimize performance and perhaps cause misfire etc at inconvenient time. So if not done a good independent for Lexus cars could give price for this. Always worth negotiating with sellers who will be particularly keen to turn over stock at this time.

There is a black tube sits along the front these sensors clip into. It activates the pop up hood I think it's called pressure tube

Hi just wondering if any updates on this. PEA based injector cleaner seemed to have helped ours, fine for 3 months, but recently come back, so trying again. From looking online, I'm guessing the sound is a result of knock from clogged injectors. The cam rattle is different from the videos and reports I've read.

If it's a faulty module you may be able to get the module repaired rather than replaced for a fraction of the cost.

I have a 2007 gs450h with 150,000 miles on the clock. I see no reason to be concerned about your battery condition. You say you can only run about a mile on battery only, and that is very good. The car was not designed to run on electric only, and using it in that manor is bad for fuel consumption, and battery longevity. Discharging the battery, and then recharging it as far as you can is not a good thing. It is far better to have small charge discharge cycles at around the full blue bar level for maximum life. Buying a used battery is a mine field. How do you know it is any better than the battery you have? and how do you know if battery modules have been changed by the previous owner when buying from a breaker? The dr prius app is not accurate. If the battery is only at 50% capacity according to the app, and it still does a mile on electric only it should do 2 miles with a 100% capacity battery. The GS will not do that when new. John.

Hello Andrew and welcome to the LOC. For your budget you are looking at the RX450h around 10 years old and 100,000 miles at a dealer, most important thing is a full service history and a valid hybrid health check. Feel free to post up links of potential purchases for feedback from members.

I bought wind deflectors for my previous car (BMW), it wasn't Heko though but what I didn't like is that it felt like the windows was always slightly open because of the clips that are inserted in the window channel and therefore the window wasn't sealed so i could hear slight draft, I quickly removed these and never bothered again.

i had them on my previous car, a Honda accord.They go misty after a while and then reduce visibility when cornering. Similarly in heavy rain they reduce visibility. Not too good. The one on the moonroof is a winner though if you can find one in UK.

Really? Do ye not just go for a drive in the evenings? I have put on 6,000 miles on my ISF since January. About 80% of it was unnecessary. If I only drove the car where I "needed to" I would have probably covered less than 2000. What's stopping you driving it?

You say it's your first Lexus so I'm assuming it'll be your first hybrid too? If so, there's a knack to driving them. Don't 'baby' the car. Accelerate briskly to the desired speed and then just back your foot ever so slightly off and, traffic flow and hills allowing, you should be able to maintain speed on battery for a while. Anticipate traffic ahead and try to brake gently because this is how the traction battery is recharged. The aim is to get the regenerative braking system to do most of the stopping for you so that the traction battery stays charged. If I remember correctly, I think the regen system slows the car down to 3mph and then the traditional hydraulic brakes take over to bring the car to a full stop - which is why brake pads and discs last much longer on a hybrid car than a conventional one. If it's an emergency situation and you need to anchor on then the hydraulic brakes come on immediately, but otherwise the regen system is your new best friend Remember though, these are hybrid cars, not electric cars. If you manage to drive on battery alone then the most you'll get is maybe a couple of miles before the battery goes flat. This also means that you can't drive the car (or even start it) if you run out of petrol. You need three things to be working for the car to run - the 12v battery, the 288v traction battery and the petrol engine. Because the petrol engine only runs as and when necessary and not continuously, anything that would normally be driven from the engine by a belt such as the alternator and power steering pump etc., is driven by electric motors. Hybrids have no starter motor, no alternator, and a small 12v 'starter' battery that can often go flat if the car is left standing for two or three weeks so a few of us on here carry one of these or something similar which is small enough to carry in the glove box. They work very well and are well worth the cost for peace of mind alone. It's perfectly fine to jump start a hybrid if needed but never use a hybrid to jump start a conventional car or the end result may be a big bang that causes a huge dent in your wallet! One other thing is that if you're ever parked up for a while (say you've taken your wife to the hairdressers/dentist/shops/whatever) and you're sat in the car listening to the radio while waiting for her, always make sure that the car is in READY mode and P (never N). This is because the traction battery will lose charge quite quickly but if the car is in READY and P, the petrol engine will fire up as and when necessary to keep the battery charged. At traffic lights or other similar situations keep the car in D with your foot on the brakes rather than moving into N as you may have been taught when learning to drive - the hybrid system doesn't work with the car in N. Above all else - enjoy!

Hi Jon Your profile shows the year of your car is 2020?? So I guess the nav system would be as up-to-date as possible. However, for anyone out there buying a second hand motor that’s a few years old, I would say don’t count on the dealership making sure that the sat nav maps are current, mine didn’t!! You will have to check the age of the map data when you do your test drive and hope to goodness that the previous owner spent the extra dosh on getting regular updates. If you’re lucky you’ll inherit a good/current one, otherwise expect to find a nav system that’s as old as the car it sits in. The other week, i asked my local Lexus dealer about getting the most recent update for my sat nav and was told it costs the dealership well over £100 to buy the licence from HQ for you and they then charge that on to you, plus labour to upload it, plus VAT. He said it’s so expensive he doesn’t do it either and just uses google maps on his mobile for directions!! i have to say that I think you’re going to be rather underwhelmed by the Lexus sat nav. The two I’ve had would only take the first portion of the post code, so it will get you to the general area, but after that you have to hunt for numbers on people’s front doors as you kerb crawl down the street ☹️ Added to that it’s certainly not an intuitive system, it’s hard to use, hard to program and forgets things you’ve just put in. If you get something wrong and want to take one step back and re-try, forget it; you’ll be quicker starting from the beginning again. Combine that with trying to use the weird illegitimate cross between a mouse and a joystick in your left hand and it gets so frustrating that you start to wish you hadn’t thrown away your old AA road atlas after all - It’s not their best selling point!! On other matters, don’t worry at all. Lexus dealers are the best around for looking after you and your car, they won’t let you down. Enjoy your new car!!

I always thought the gold badges looked a bit blingy and the chrome is more Lexus if you get my drift.

Now I like a convertible but would need to see it in the flesh. It will be a rare sight on our roads so that makes it a bit more attractive. Being a soft top you will hear the exhaust note more which is a good thing. Sorry. Colour works for me. 🥰😍

Although the speedometer now works, the temperature gauge has now stopped working! It could be an unfortunate electronic coincidence, or maybe I damaged it when I was playing about with the instrument cluster. One step forward and one step back. I have 2 fire extinguishers... one under the front passenger, in its appropriate IS200 holder... and one in the boot, also mounted in its appropriate IS200 strap mountings. Can't say if it affected insurance but it's definately added peace of mind. :)
