It is likely that at some time the hybrid battery will need attention of some sort. Either battery module replacement or fitting new or used battery. There is no reason to expect problems from the transmission "much less likely than a normal auto box or even a manual if you include the clutch" The battery modules "a block of 8 cells" can be replaced at reasonable cost a used battery complete is circa £550, or a new battery is under £3000, but should then give 15 years plus of extra life. Okay, just in case anyone else has this problem, I detached the sensor from the windscreen, it just slides downwards to come off and the 'gel' pad had moved slightly. So I relocated back onto the sensor correctly, picked a few bits of grime off it, clipped it back on and I have auto wiping wipers again! The gel isn't perfectly flush, there's a few air bubbles, but it still works perfectly so all's good!4 points

A new alternator and new multi ribbed belt and 2 hours later I have charge! Battery warning light gone. Happy days. Took the opportunity to check the 2 filters on the oil feed to the cams - phew! it wasa relief to see both are clean and no debris.2 points

There are quite a few Prius taxis over 300,000 miles from what I can gather so I see no reason why the RX can't get there.2 points

This car has been for sale on Autotrader for a long time as far as I can remember. I know it was on sale at a high price but don’t know if near what it obtained on eBay. I think the words ‘ good luck’ come to mind and was meticulously maintained, so could give somebody many hours of enjoyment for Ford Focus prices, and like Phil, would like it to have been me......although I was not a bidder.2 points

In the UK no one makes aftermarket ones, so as suggested it's main dealer or a risky used one.2 points

I have read it many times (I also know where my towel is) Well, I am afraid the decent pension option sailed away some time ago as I wasn't that prudent in my youth. I agree with the housing situation though. There would have been no way I could have afforded my own place at 25, and even now we only bought this place a year ago with a 25 year mortgage. Oh well, nose to the grindstone it is then.2 points

As PCM SAID, BUT DO NOT RUSH as 42 is the most significant age in the entire universe! If you have not done so, then read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy!2 points

Hard to say whether it's worth that kind of money. It is, if the description is true, more or less a brand new car, so in that respect it could be considered a bargain! One of my concerns would be convincing an insurance company of its value. All said and done, I'd love it!2 points

Wow, so many here have retired 'early'. Is there a secret to this or was it just prudent planning? I am currently 42 and fully expect to need to work until I am 67, unless the government decide to raise the retirement age again!2 points

We had a CT and the same issue, was an exhaust heat shield in our case. Wouldn't be surprised if that's your issue.2 points

This phenomena is caused by the way batteries, and most chemical reactions work. Heat increases chemical reaction rates, and with a battery increases the cell voltage slightly by around 0.1 volts per cell depending on the type of battery, and the temperature rise. After driving the car in the heat the battery temperature will rise more than usual, and since the battery is made up of 240 cells the overall voltage increase is raised by 24 volts or more. This in turn shows as a higher state of charge "more blue bars". As the battery cools this effect disappears lowering the battery voltage, and the number of bars shown. Even lead acid 12 volt batteries suffer from this effect, and is why the charge voltage should be adjusted to account for temperature. John.2 points

Original bulbs? probably still too early to tell. Just let it run as long as it can and when bulb starts giving issues then swap it out. I would just buy a pair of new bulbs and have it as backup. If you are changing to osram then swap it as a pair.1 point

The battery is more likely to die from water ingress before it fails on its own. Inverter and hybrid battery are easy to replace. Its not the end of the world in one fails as once replaced it will probably go for another 10+ years.1 point

There is indeed, just under £800 including shipping but it would seem that Stan doesn't want to do it:1 point

Had an issue on my is300h where the wipers were stopping mid screen and only way to get them to work was in fast speed on manual. After a bit of research on the forum I changed the wiper relay and that cured the problem. Bought two used from eBay for £5 and have kept the second in reserve just in case but have had no issues since. Not sure you have the same problem but a cheap fix if it is.1 point

Stone the crows! Lexus Cust Servs say they’re in the post. What’s not to like? Thanks again Ian. Pete1 point

If it did indeed sell, then to answer the original question, it was worth the price, to the buyer!1 point

It looks like it sold at that price, but like with all theses things “who really knows”1 point

Seems too high to me but others sold for prices around £15K with higher mileage and it's rare to see one in this colour combination.1 point

Japanese people generally take huge pride in anything they do. I remember marvelling at condition of a refuse collection vehicle that stopped next to us as we walked in Kyoto. It was spotless, polished and burnished. Even the bin lifting mechanism was very clean. The worker's overalls were clean and pressed. The Japanese have a very special attitude to life, people and their environment. Self respect and the respect of others, something we, in the west, could learn a lot from.1 point

Try talking to Lexus Customer Services. Often they will make a goodwill gesture outside of any Warranty. My Last 4 year old RX450h had wheel corrosion not covered by extended warranty and Lexus Customer Relations paid for them to be refurbished.1 point

Lot of luck. Helps if you are a boomer as well. My son is waaaaaay more intelligent than me, Oxford then Imperial, has a good first job but doubt he can retire at 55 like we did. I retired from a low paid wine trade job at age 30, to raise kids, wife was a schoolteacher. Property prices helped us enormously. Bought at age 25, mortgage free at 42. Always very prudent with money though. (Don't waste your money on private education for your kids!) No need.1 point

Hehe, no problem...is an easy mistake to make. I'm not 100% certain that a 3rd party battery conditioner is necessary, isn't that what the vehicle does but in a controlled range that gives the battery pack as a whole, a longer life? The vehicle hybrid system never fully depletes or fully charges the pack. Batteries can typically handle x charge cycles and performing more cycles at a wider range seems counter productive to me but I'm no expert. When the hybrid battery packs fail it's due to one or more pack breaking down and they need replacing. Whilst the whole pack is apart, all the packs are then charged and checked/matched individually to give a solid overall pack when fully assembled. Maybe John or Richard will be along soon to dispell my sketchy man logic...1 point

I retired at 58, moved to the country with an acre of land and have never been so busy. My only regret is not doing it earlier! I guess you have to enjoy gardening but the pleasure it brings is immense. My guitars keep me busy during winter months!1 point

Hi Steve a bit similar in that I sold one of my businesses and bought a boat in Spain , so travelled the Med and the Balearics . Actually you don’t really need good language cos most marinas etc speak English and although we had a place in Spain since 2002, my Spanish is not good but surprising how you get by. I would definitely do it while youngish and fit, but I also got fed up eventually of drinking in the sun and sold up. Now looking what to do next but I expect I will always work cos I just get bored , but some people get enormous pleasure out of the freedom , diy, gardening or whatever but not me. However it is lovely to spoil the grandchildren ....now that does give us enormous pleasure 🤗 Cheers , Roger1 point

I finished working in power distribution at 57 and having holidayed there many times decided to go to Cyprus over winter. We rented an apartment but it was so cold we cut it short and returned home after Christmas. It was also cold back here in the UK and short days. Little in the way of gardening to do or anything else for that matter. Totally bored I applied for a job in metering and being qualified was back in a job by February. That was now 3 years ago so another company pension building up slowly and a salary. Thinking of doing another year or so then putting the tools down again. We have also considered a boat but located in the Med so we can travel around the Greek islands at leisure just need to improve my language skills a bit more.1 point

Also the number it shows doesn't actually mean the currently selected gear, it's a limit. If it says 4 then it won't go above 4th gear (unless you hit the redline). By default the limit is 4th, this is so that if you're travelling up a hill you can pop it over into S mode and keep it in 4th to help it up the hill and not have it shifting up and down a lot. Same for descending steep hills if you want more engine braking.1 point

You don't necessarily just want to have wheels the aligned to standard spec - which is why you need someone who knows what they are doing. Lexus have been known to get it wrong before, especially with the series I IS200 where Tony at WIM came up with corrected settings which Lexus GB then adopted.1 point
