  1. Agreed and if the new owner can sell it today for a similar price it really was worth it. If not then it wasn't. At £18k it must be a recent record for an SC. It's definitely not worth it but if anyone wants to pay £18k for mine please get in touch. 🤣

  2. Hi, As no one has mentioned it yet, here is the news about next year LS facelift. https://www.motor1.com/news/432617/2021-lexus-ls-facelift-revealed/amp/

  4. No not at all - a Lexus Essentials service can be purchased at any time, paid for on the day of the service or put into a 2 years service plan - but only if the car is over 5 years old. For an Extended Warranty to be valid the car must be serviced by Lexus every 10k/12 months interval. If the car is under 5 years old then the service will be the "full price" Lexus servicing but once the car is 5 years old any subsequent service at 10k/12 months interval can be the Lexus Essentials service (which has a minor/major service price) which is some 30%+ cheaper than the "full price" schedule and the Extended Warranty will still be valid. My comment about "You may have to bite the bullet on one more full price service" to the OP was because it looked like his car was only 4 years old and so if he had Extended Warranty he possibly wouldn't be able to use the cheaper Essentials service until the car was 5 years old. Your car is a 2014 (like mine) and so you will be able to take out the 2 years Essentials service plan no problem and this will maintain your Extended Warranty too.

  5. When the car is over 5 years old and you can use the Lexus Essentials servicing which saves about one-third of the full service price and still includes the hybrid health check. You may have to bite the bullet on one more full price service though before you get to that. If you want peace of mind you can also have Lexus Extended Warranty along with the Lexus Essentials servicing too.

  6. Thanks Colin and Richard for the replies received, the bike rack seller omitted to state that the rack INCLUDED the roof bars, so I'm quids in. Got £450 worth of Thule equipment for £200. Tip top condition and top of the range equipment, well pleased.

  7. Outside of the hybrid health check (which you can get a dealer to do on its own for £59), nothing on the hybrid system gets touched at servicing until 100k miles (inverter coolant replacement). There are some special procedures needed to change brake fluid, so you need an independent with access to manuals and correct equipment, but no special knowledge on the hybrid system is needed for general maintenance.

  8. Yesterday "Postman Pat" delivered my timing belt kit from Rock Auto, although fitting it might have to wait a while whilst I finish off some of my house DIY projects. It came in a box marked Aisin, although some of the parts are made by others, but all are made in Japan. However, the timing belt by Mitsuboshi did make me think of Chinese copies, but apparently they are a bona fide belt manufacturer, and have been since 1932. It looks a though the solenoid for the fuel flap is faulty so I have sourced a used one from eBay for £25. A lot better than the main stealer's price of £360!

  9. Not trying to steal your thunder, but watched this video last night. Only 100 cars to be made and only to be sold to the USA. Rather nice. Why not to the UK? https://youtu.be/MBxqnLA-TjQ

  10. Moving house and clearing out garage and it seems such a pity to consider having to send a new GS450h Mk IV boot liner to the tip. I bought the genuine Lexus boot liner which I only had 6 months before trading my GS in and buying a new ES300, such was impact a hybrid had on me. I did offer it once before on the GS forum but as it needs collecting for obvious reasons about postage and size of the item nobody in West Yorkshire needed one. So if anyone thinks a trip to Leeds is worth doing to collect it then send me a PM. It's a freebie.

  15. Apparently those oversize grilles are an aquired Asian taste. The BMW design is heavily influenced by Chinese customers where bling and showing your wealth are decisive factors in purchasing a new vehicle. I recently saw a youtube video of the Toyota Century. It was explained that the architecture of the Century does not radiate the wealth of the owner but the status.....

  16. Today's task - washed, polished with Poorboys Black hole and then waxed using Nattys Black Paste wax. Alloys polished using Autoglym Alloy Wheel cleaner and tyres with Autoglym tyre gel. Pleased with all of these products and the final result. Typically its just started to rain! ☹️💦🌧️

  17. That's a sudden change of diagnosis. What makes you think it's transmission related? Very unlikely and probably serious if it is.
    1 point
  18. We might be reaching turning point soon. I remember my 1st car got no grill at all: Where the 2nd one got small one. Back in the days it was normal but now it does look a bit funny: And here is where we are now:

  19. Worry not, with the way the industry is going, big grilles (or even grilles) could be a thing of the past. Enjoy it while it lasts 😉

  20. It has to be remembered that the MOT tests things are operating at only that brief moment in time. What should be noted is how the brakes perform overall and also individually against each other where ideally both sides should match the time and progression of the other. A sticking caliper would show up in this test. But with wear and partial seizing of components there can come a tipping point when a disparity develops. The only other thing I can think of that has not yet been mentioned although is a very remote possibility is that the back plate may have suffered a blow whereby it has bent and is rubbing against the disc
    1 point
  21. The noise is caused by the backing plate "dust shield" touching the disc. How do I know? Because I had exactly the same noise appear on my GS450H. The remedy is to simply bend the plate away from the disc with the wheel off the car. You should still be able to hear the noise with the wheel removed, but to make sure the disc does not move away from the back plate after removing the wheel refit a couple of the wheel nuts as near opposite each other as you can, and just pinch them up with a spanner. John.

  23. UK is not the best market for big petrol engines to start with and then if someone is in this market they will most probably go for something from Germany. Good example is a GSF - brilliant car but in the UK only 70 or so were sold in few years. LC500 is even more expensive which probably would lead to even smaller sales. As for the new LS, not a lot of changes but maybe early model will drop in price which then push down late 600h ones too.

  24. Have you considered a service plan with your local Lexus dealer? They provide them interest free and spread the cost over the term of the agreement. I pay around £30 a month for three years, and this includes all service and parts costs plus my first MOT, which will be due next year as mine is 2 years old. I've had these for each of the four Lexus I have owned and would highly recommend.

  25. Thanks for your sharing your experience. There are absolutely definitely no LEXUS rear mats. I checked as far afield as RoI, Australia and Japan. Any suggestion to the contrary is an error, as confirmed by Lexus U.K. All that said my ES was supplied with perfectly fitting rear mats. So a bit of banter-laden negotiation bore fruit in the end! Result happiness...at least for me. Thanks for your post. Pete

  28. The cause of the noise may be due to the wear of the brake pad, so check the brake as soon as possible. Ideally, you should replace a new brake pad. Front wheel noise also indicates some other common problems such as wheel wear, abnormal tires, and bent wheels.

  29. Would a Toyota service centre be any cheaper? Obviously they would have experience with the hybrid system
    1 point
  30. The vehicle is meant to be serviced every 10,000 miles or 12 month - whichever comes first. If you have any warranty then you need to adhere to the schedule otherwise it is obviously your choice. Remember though that some items degrade with time as well as mileage. Have you thought about not going to Lexus? An independent would probably do a full 40k service and MOT for £300.
    1 point
  31. I agree, definitely brake related. May not be totally worn brake pads though, the standard Toyota pad have a reasonable amount of metal in them to make that noise when lightly rubbing against the disc.

  32. It is perfectly clear as your .gov link states. You cannot use a hand-held device unless you have hands-free access, such as: a bluetooth headset voice command a dashboard holder or mat a windscreen mount Whether you have a hand-held in a mount or an in-built sat nav, the rules around driving without due care and attention still apply. The link you provided on your initial post states the device is only compatible with ES/IS/LS/NX. Is there another one that has CT compatibility, did they confirm it would also work in the CT or did you just take a chance? The RX and GS are also missing from the list - I wonder if it will work with them.

  33. No way is that a bearing, the sound is far too tinny.
    1 point
  34. I agree with Barry. Remove the brake pads to verify the cause of the noise.
    1 point
  35. This sounds to me like brake pads have worn though friction material maybe caused by sticking caliper or could be a stone has got caught up. I have even known where the pads over time have so undercut the disc that a considerable lip has formed leading to metal on pad and disc meeting. You could see what difference it makes taking out pads and possibly disc. I had a Camry once where there was no movement in the bearing but it gave a constant slight whistling sound which went when I replaced the bearing but quite unlike the sound yours made. If you you find you do have a disc/pads problem you need to check the other side also and if there is a substantial difference establish cause. Then having remedied this you might well have to fit new ones on either side unless it was just a very small stone on on side which I doubt it is.

  46. The test is there to purely to extend the warranty on the hybrid battery for 12 months, so that is how often it is intended to be done. There is no predictive maintenance done. It was really designed to reassure owners/potential owners that the hybrid battery isn't something to worry about as scare stories in the press about new batteries costing thousands of pounds could have affected used car values. If you have a problem with your hybrid system you will know about it by warning lights - a hybrid health check isn't going to stop that happening. Also be aware that the warranty only covers the hybrid battery. Not the inverter, transmission, hybrid cooling system, electric motors etc.

  47. I jacked my GS up on the chassis rails or the sub-frame and stand supports on the control arms where they bolt onto the body for the front. Rear - the jack up point is the rear diff and again stand supports on the mounting points of the sub-frame.
