  1. You can do no worse than bookmark these two informative posts. Don't get too hung up about brake calipers as that can apply to pretty much any car if they are not serviced. The snag is....Lexus don't service them as part of routine servicing. They would rather just bolt on a brand new one every now and then. If you are just a little bit spannery they are really quite easy to do. Or get a reliable indy to do for you...just make sure they use red rubber grease for the slide pins. There are a few write ups on brake servicing within this forum. Generally speaking the SEL type is the best spec IS250. Happy hunting

  2. Hi Pete, I'm not much of a chatterer on here, but can I just say well done for surviving. This would have been a poorer place without you. : o )

  3. I recently replaced the ac compressor on my car. Once the old one was off the car and I could have a good look at it, it was the magnetic clutch that had failed and the compressor itself looked fine. The ‘Hub Assy’ at the front had come apart, clutch plate had detached so when the clutch engaged it didn’t drive the compressor, car didn’t detect the compressor rotating so then the flashing ac light. I was advised to get a new complete compressor with clutch assy which I did, I said I would fit it myself after a de gas and then re gassed etc, what’s involved and what I did is in the post below. As far as cost, a new compressor from the UK is approx £550 iirc, when I looked there were none in stock in the UK. I got mine from RockAuto in the states and for the new compressor, drier kit and a seal kit it was approx £280 iirc, delivered including everything. Ordered Friday afternoon and delivered Monday afternoon. The cost for fitting I can’t say but I would guess at half a day labour (probably more) to de gas, fit new compressor, test and re gas etc. https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/123942-ls400-mk3-aircon-compressor-replacement/

  4. Be interesting why it's being suggested it might need to be replaced. Who/why? If it's a recent purchase, can you reject it ? Or the seller gets it fixed at their cost? Record everything agreed in writing?

  6. If you login to the lexus customer portal, lexus.co.uk/my-lexus/dashboard There is a link to a "free 2019 V2 map update 24/10/2019" but.. if you click on the link, you get page not found, anyone managed to get this update? Or update their navigation version?

  7. Gave my Lexus some TLC, started with oil change, the oil was very black!! should I be concerned? Replaced cabin and air filters, changed the brake pads all round, even though they weren't worn, had a couple of sticky slide pins so decided to replace all four corners with new ones, had a slight leak on front passenger shock absorber, so changed both fronts, finally I replaced the spark plugs, a job that is overdue that should keep her running sweetly for a while. 😃

  8. Dya know what I wish I thought of that but there you go. From years ago doing lots of car hifi installs and knowing just about everything to do with it to now having the memory of a fish lol. Anyway I've gone from permanent power feed to ignition power feed. Now to learn how to use the thing lol.

  9. Yes fuel filler cap is permanent live. That's what I want. Tho I might change my mind but the unit has an on/off button so its a toss up between pressing a button or an ignition on power feed. Thans again for your replies. The wiring kit is great But the wires a Far Too Long. Feeding the wire so as to be hidden wasn't so easy but I did it.

  10. Note; As mentioned above the SE-L model spec has indeed the highest level of equipment and there were only a couple of options available ( ie, ACC, Moonroof and multi-media ICE) the SE-L is easily identified by its wood ( and it is real wood, highly laquered and polished supplied by Yamaha, The musical instrument makers!) inserts in the passenger compartment and by the rear electrically operated sun shade ( not even the ISF had one of those!)

  11. It's all about how relaxing the IS300h is to drive. Yes, I agree it's very quick in mid-range but will not match a high torque diesel. But we cannot compare the two as they are too different, so let’s leave it at that. I love my car, have driven it for 5 years from new and it never ever felt stressed out even in situations where I would need to react quick in traffic. The electric traction gives good torque added to the engine power. It's flows great with traffic and is very frugal so what more does one want. These are the best cars in their class! And would anyone agree that (off topic I know) the mileage a hybrid does is far less stressful on the engine then a regular petrol car. Mine has done 60k miles which is more likely to be 30k for the engine and brakes.

  12. Oils are a waste of time on modern leather. They simply sit on the surface of the coating and attract dirt. All you need is a cleaner and a sealant. No conditioner is even going to penetrate the coating on top anyway

  13. When did the Trader sell you the RX Wyn ? What sort of warranty were you given ?

  14. If it's in warranty just get it straight back, don't mess about.

  15. Well I am very pleased to say that Autoglass did a first class job with my replacement windscreen. They have fitted a genuine Lexus screen and the camera alignment etc was all carried out and tested without any issues. All my worries were happily, unfounded.

  16. Thanks Vlad, I very much appreciate it. I will admit feeling a bit disappointed at first and questioning whether to move on car wise, but in the end, for the moment I haven't given up hope and will look at getting something done about it. If I could afford the time off, I would consider removing the brakes myself and taking just the discs to get skimmed, but I have just started a new job and the pressure is on, so that is not an option for now. It does sound like it is going to be an ongoing issue though... Sorry, perhaps I am being dense, but do you mean try this now to potentially get rid of the warping? Thanks.

  18. Glad you are on the mend Pete. Your observations mirror mine after being cocooned for 22 weeks. Take care, work less enjoy more and remember that our are not marked "return".

  19. Paul I can't understand why you have had trouble finding new caliper bolts. I phoned the spares dept. at Stockport Lexus (my local dealer) this morning and was quoted £9 + vat each. The strange thing is though they are on a weeks delivery, but spares that are regular consumables are normaly next day delivery. This indicates there is not much demand for them, probably because people like me keep re-using the original ones. Beware of shopping round for cheaper simple parts like bolts for brake calipers. Bolts can be made by any back street or garden shed workshop anywhere in the world where 'quality control' is an alien concept. Are they using the right high tensile steel? Are they using the right anti-corrosion treatment? Are they checking the dimensions are within tolerance? And even if you save £5 a bolt is it worth increasing the chance of an accident that could cost you far more than money? Thats why I always buy parts like that through Lexus or Toyota main dealers, it's worth the peace pf mind. John N

  20. Hi. The car had a full service and I got the ECU caps renewed, but it still had this issue "randomly". On some days it was working absolutely stunning on the others started like a crap and had no power. One day we broke our usual routine of hopping in the car, start it, turn the AC on and go where we need to be. At half way when we turned the AC on that weird sound started again... and this is where we realised how dumb we are. It was the AC compressor... So if you have a weird noise and power loss you can put this on your checklist

  21. I've just checked the maintanance manual for the LS430 and the two bolts that hold the calliper to the hub are marked as non-reusable. But I must admit I've taken the calipers on and off 4 or 5 times in the last 11 years, when I've replaced brake discs, and never changed the original bolts. 150,000 miles and the brake calipers have'nt fallen off yet! If you realy must replace them call the spares department at your local main dealer, simple things like bolts are not that expensive even at Lexus. Note, the other thing the manual tells you to replace is the tiny stainless steel clip that hold the wear sensor on the brake pad, and I would dvise you to replace that, I always do. 22. As long as I see a little green flashing light on the dash, I’m not bothered how the outside orange ones look like.

  23. I too look forward to the future pleasure of an LC500. It might register a blip on my budget radar in a few short years but I doubt it will be the bargain a 5 year old Toyota Soarer once was. I will never understand how the Soarer continued to be overlooked by both LS and Supra fanatics alike.

  24. Great stuff! I've never driven one but I can imagine it's a real pleasure.

  25. Hmm, this is a pickle. When priming, I assume you can hear the pump running? Also, do you have TechStream? If not, then it looks like you will need it for the next stage that the manual suggests. This is what it says: So, as you can see, you need to do the active test to make sure the pump is working. Hope this helps.
