  1. Hi Jon. I see you have asked most of the questions I had when I got my CT200 at the end of July. I absolutely love mine (registered Sept 2019) and quickly figured out when to use the different driving settings just by trying it - Sports mode is excellent for going up steep winding hills! I’m bizarrely finding myself driving slower than I ever have (the husband can’t believe it) in an obsession to have it in electric mode and increase my mpg. I’ve even not minded being in slow traffic as it has upped my mpg! I get my business mileage back based on a petrol car so I’m quids in. I generally get 60mpg on a mixture of road types plus motorways. I ended up not taking any of the dealer offers based on the condition of cars I’ve had previously (fingers crossed). The guys on here are great with their experience and suggestions. I have never loved a car so much. I hope your wife likes it as well - us Lexus Ladies look good behind that wheel.😀

  2. A dramatic title I know ,but how many of you have given a thought to how will the car evolved and life after the gen 4 . I look at so many cars and suvs etc during my day out and about thinking that's looks nice .but my second thought is how reliable is it etc.. I do like the look of the Porsche SUV or Volvo latest models from the outside .Will we be all driving electric soulless cars soon with different badges all with similar battery's and drive trains reliable and simple etc .will most be driverless soon and will most common folk be priced of the road .hell I might as well jump on the local electric powered bus surrounded by hoodie teens glued to there tech device while I dream of the past .Oh to be young again 100 mph felt fast and alive twin 40 webbers induction roar cherry bomb exhausts lol or the smell and noise of a two stroke bike coming on the pipe on a crisp evening out for a blast with your mates as you wind on the throttle with a big grin .And then back to reality with a bump ,your in a showroom with the wife you hear ooh that's a nice blue one love as your soul departs this mortal coil and you mutter to the 15 yr old senior sales person what's the battery range as he smirks at you knowing your wife likes it and that's the deal done you mutter bollocks and sigh .😔

  3. I'd have taken Lady P down the pub, even if she was made of wood, obviously only to get her drunk enough to let me drive the pink Rolls, and I'd keep my pockets zipped up in case the light fingered Parker was around! There she is with Noel Gallagher at the wheel!

  4. And welcome to 'Our World' It is just 12 months since we bought our S3RX450 , and what a wonderful move it's been. I still enjoy the simple act of driving him, (all my cars have been male), the technology is just too good not to enjoy, and as I'm never in an hurry*, driving to improve the mpg has almost become an hobby. The blasted Coronavirus has severely curbed our 12 months mileage (3,500!), and the next 12 months looks though it will be none to substantial either, but I take great pleasure in every mile that I do drive: (and avoid rush hour, avoid London and the Home Counties and try to avoid the eedjits). *Hurrying: the idea scenario is that the very next time I'm in a vehicle that's hurrying - it'll be on its way to an hospital, I cannot think of anything else I want to rush for)

  5. My first two cars were Beetles. A '73 and a '65. I had the opportunity to drive one again recently. No seatbelts, my nose nearly touching the screen, 40 felt fast, drums all round, the smell from the leaking Solex. I nearly cried. Interestingly I'm now priced out of old Beetles and have to console myself with Lexus. How odd.

  6. There are different refrigerants out there and the correct one must be used however it is the oil that is extremely important on a hybrid as the compressor is electric and conventional oil is conductive which will cause energy leakage and a shock hazard. ND-OIL 11 must be used.

  7. Hi yes she loves it and sports mode😂Im the same as you I’ve slowed right down and also try to get the best mileage, actually don’t mind being beaten at the lights anymore 😂,maybe that will wear off. i took out the service plan with my dealer but not the other stuff, went with a firm advised on here, and they have been good, already fixed the alloy wheel I scraped on a kerb, good as new👍.

  8. It's interesting to imagine what our transport will be like in the future but much may depend on Government carrot and stick approach. Expect self driving vehicles to become common place. For those, (probably the majority), who just want to go from A to B for relatively short journeys, dialing up for a self driving car to take them to their destination(s) might suit. No need to to have your own car, thereby saving on initial cost and depreciation and being off road while parts were awaited, as another automated car would come along. For those wanting to travel further afield, perhaps there might be a larger, more comfortable range that again would most probably be battery powered. When needed the car would take itself to a power point and recharge. Those who still wanted their own cars and particularly those still with petrol/diesel power might have to subsidize the 'hire a car' users. Indeed we are beginning to see some of this happening already in road tax difference, low emission zones etc. I saw a very short film about how hydrogen was being used used on a small scale. It showed it being used to power cars as well as to provide power for heating. This might become b an alternative rival to electric. Interestingly, an airplane powered by Hydrogen was shown on TV today and it was hoped that this would be the forerunner of a small commercial plane. I am sure we are going to see some quite radial changes in the next 20 years and beyond. Many enthusiasts will reminisce about the days when they drove their own petrol/diesel cars.

  9. Blimey m8. Did you forget to put the lemonade in your shandy? lol. I for sure won't go on the local electric buses. I'll still be in my not so gas guzzling 2.5 litre V6 smiling at the nerds who will be in those over priced electric cars. There will be loads like me who wont yield to pressure from any governing body to go electric. If finances allow I'll also have a crindindin 2 stroke Yamaha like i did in the marvellous 80's.

  10. I think you're right with your calculations William (@Thackeray) but it's a bit simpler than that. There's no actual path for the 12V battery to have any effect on MG1 and/or the petrol engine at all. The voltage of the traction battery varies by model and from the documents provided by Peter above, we know that the RC300h is nominally 230V, so we'll stick with that for the purposes of this discussion. As you said above William, MG1 is supplied with 650V, which is derived by feeding the 230V from the traction battery into the inverter. In other words, to be able to get 650V out, we have to squirt 230V in. If we could somehow supply the inverter with 12V (which I don't think can be done anyway) then the inverter would either not do anything at all, or it would squirt out a greatly reduced voltage, nowhere near the 650V needed to spin MG1 and the petrol engine. It would be like trying to light up a 230V lamp with a 1.5V AA battery - it just wouldn't happen.

  11. All sorted guys, I have found the offending connector - thankfully it was someone else's ***** up but it's in the inverter and I've just had it all up and running again. Thanks for those who chipped in, no big bills after all

  17. I was talking to an acquaintance last week who is a nuclear engineer for Eon. He was telling me that he wouldn't buy electric cars despite being able to get free electricity for car was part of a package from his employer. He said every time he's wanted to use a pool car they're always being charged so unavailable at midday. He was working at Hinckley Point for a few months and had a company BMW one series to use...

  18. Just my 2cents but I skipped the F-Sport (this coming from a guy who had a gs350, really wanted a 250/450h F-Sport and ended up getting a gs250) When I drove the F-Sport, I found the suspension overly harsh with wear components (brakes, staggered tyres) a bit much of pricing Given the general character of the car (long luxury saloon with decent handling) I think the F-sport doesn't make sense unless you pair it with a larger engine (450h). That said, drive them all (if you can) and look at the body condition, service history. Chances are one of them will jump out at you as better than the rest, GL IMHO, selling a vehicle with 100k+ miles is difficult. Have a think about how long you'll keep the car and how far you drive to arrive at an exit age and mileage on the vehicle.

  20. And am I right in thinking that by 4am the snow plough had gone through at high speed and the main roads were all clear so that the Post Bus could get through? (I know, you were still asleep and didn't notice.) (Passing Swiss yokel, attempting Yorkshire accent, says, "Snow? You call this snow? When I were a lad we would have snow up t't roof. Brought cows into't kitchen to keep house warm. T't doors and windows were blocked by snow so we had to climb out of skylight to get hay for the cows. Younger generation wouldn't believe you if you told them." Passing Swiss yokel closes window of his Lamborghini and drives off looking disgusted.)

  21. I would think very carefully before you start breaking into circuits and adding non OEM devices, the standard fit alarm immobiliser should provide adequate theft protection. With modern car electronics and Can bus you could end up in a mess if the circuit you modify supplies another essential ECU. If you do need additional theft protection consider a steering wheel lock or wheel clamp both of which are quick and easy to fit and remove plus a visible deterrent.

  24. For longer journeys - train - then hire a self-driving car for your stay. COVID has changed the way many people work and I think travelling / commuting will decrease in the future. The centre of towns and cities will become "car" free. Electric bikes will be more common for medium journeys in the summer months. I am travelling far less than pre-COVID. Great posts guys!

  25. Mine has gone off several times in the last week, I think because I ended up with a fly or wasp in there. The sensor can be turned off if you think there's a risk of it happening, but I think it has to be done manually each time you leave the car (unless there's something buried in a setting). Whenever it happens I am always mindful that it might be a sign of the 12v battery being on the way out. I know mine isn't as good as it should be, and I did have the alarm go off when the battery was the failing on an LS in the past.

  26. Before I get chastised by Royoftherovers, I HAVE read this part of the manual! Question: The gear selector has "B" for engine braking - when you are descending a steep hill. When "B" is engaged, does it charge the hybrid battery more than just gentle braking or "coasting" with no throttle? The 450h does not have "B" - how does that perform engine braking?

  27. The 400h engine is relatively quite and the noise insulation does a good job. The older Prius models and the other 4 cylinder models are noisier which is where most of the complaints come from.

The word you are looking for David as regards moving forward is......linear ! Super, duper smooooooth ! Seriously, it took me 12 months to come to terms with the Hybrid experience and whilst I want to tell the whole World about it.....I do not want everybody to find out about it. Give us more reports in due course please.

  31. They definitely did not evacuate the refrigerant and put it back in. I once had it with them for the whole day just to check the A/C and they just ran it to check whether it is cold enough. They also said the inspection glass showed the appropriate level of refrigerant. Just a few weeks ago I had it with them again for major service (150k km) and they performed the same check. If it gets worse I’ll ask them to remove and replace/add actual refrigerant. For now, on a recent trip to south Italy where we had 40+ C the AC actually performed flawlessly.

  35. I've also been lurking on Tesla forums since I started pondering a M3 or MY to replace the NX. But the build quality lottery, and concern about long-term reliability, make it very unlikely that Elon will be getting my money. While I've got some admiration for the way that he changed the weather on EVs, I can't understand from a business viewpoint why he has such a relaxed attitude to quality control. At the moment Teslas sell without any marketing spend, but that won't last indefinitely as the EV competition gets stronger. And life is too short to spend it trying to get your car fixed. Perhaps the Berlin-built Teslas will be a revelation. Perhaps.

  36. I can believe the results of the survey. Heard and read untold number of stories about how badly put together Teslas are and how they effectively fall apart once the warranty expires. A Land Rover main dealer has also had my friend's Range Rover Autobiography for 10 months now and still haven't been able to fix whatever the issue is causing the Engine Light to come on intermittently! So far they want to charge £2000 for labour to return the car to him in exactly the same condition as he dropped it off, and still undriveable as he can't get it MOT'd because of the Engine Light.

  37. I must have been lucky, when I bought my Celsior back in 2006 the seller ran a guest house in Blackpool but did grey imports as a side business ( his own car was a Nissan GT-r ). Good purchase as the car is still going strong 14 years later with just the usual problems sorted ( climate control display, starter motor contacts).

  41. Hi ,always good advice on here, I have owned my IS 250 for 5 years and I think they are an excellent buy at the present time . I really look after mine and all I have done is routine maintenance ,a very reliable car .Some points I would suggest , the MOT history looks good but it is short so see if you can factor this in ,you really need 2 keys if only 1 is available factor in £300 reduction check the maintainance record ,spark plugs should have been changed at 60,000 miles this is an expensive job if you need to use a dealer .An airbag recall should have been carried out .Everything should work ,carry out a full check on finance outstanding etc and carry out a test drive for a reasonable distance .I,m sure you will enjoy an IS 250 good luck Dave

  42. Hi Jonny. The market on is250's is a weird one. Yes there are cars as low as 1k and as high as 5.5k. All depends on their condition. Number of owners. Has it got full or part service history. Spec levels. If you go SE-L model then you can't upgrade the headunit. If you go for a car without nav then you can get a tesla style replacement. When I was looking I was dead lucky. I got a 1 owner full lexus history SE-L fully loaded for 5.5k oh and only 78k miles. Mind you I had to get new rear shocks done as Lexus Stockport notified me about them. Keep on looking and you'll find a suitable one soon.

  44. Before I start complaining again I have to say this is the best driving experience i have had in my 46 years of driving. Been driving Toyota since 1981 and Nissan for a few years before that. However, having put a good portion of my pension payout into this Lexus 300h I am not impressed by flashing yellow lights on the dash when I hit a shower of rain in the West of Ireland. (We get a bit of rain here from time to time). Lexus took my car back, replaced sensors (so I'm told) and installed software update. Situation improved but not fixed. Sensors kicking off again. What to do? The car is a year old now. Do I just go with whatever they suggest again until it's too old to follow through? or talk to a solicitor? I don't need the hassle at this stage of my life! Why should I have to try Vaseline or wd40 as a fix for a €50,000 car from what's supposed to be a luxury car brand?
    1 point
  45. I had a similar problem with an RX back in 2015. This is the feedback I got from the dealer at the time, which may be of interest: The sensors are made of three main parts. An outer ring, a small disc (the sensor), and in between a rubber ring. The sensor works in a way that similar to a sonar, sending and receiving sound waves. The rubber ring around it allows the sensor to register the tiny vibrations from incoming sound waves. When the 3G glass coat (clear coat protection) was applied to my car, it was also applied over the sensors and surrounding rubber ring. Over time, the 3G glass coat hardened to such an extent that the rubber ring became completely rigid, thus preventing any kind of movement., hence confusing the system. The sensors were removed, dismantled and thoroughly cleaned so as to remove all trace of the clear coat, and then re-installed. No problem was experienced after this.
