  1. Hi! The issue in picture format: From what I've read on various forums, it seems to be fairly common that the wheels on the 3rd Gen GS (and also other models such as the IS) suffer from cases of corrosion. This was something which my own 2008 GS300 also unfortunately was a victim of. Being in the scenario that my tires would require changing in maybe a couple of years, I wanted to fix this with two primary parameters in mind: * Not too expensive since the tires (and then maybe also wheels) would require changing in some time anyway. * Not something I wanted to spend weeks on doing. I could spend a day fixing this but not much more. So here is my refurbishing journey, hopefully helpful for someone in the same or similar situation as myself. What you need in terms of material to accomplish what I did: * Cleaning material to ensure the wheels are completly clean before painting. Don't know the proper terms for this in english (I used "rödsprit", denatured ethanol). * Primer paint. (I used 2 spray cans) * Wheel spray paint (I used 3 spray cans) * Clear coat spray (I used 1 can) * Sanding material (60-240 paper for the really tough parts) * Wet-sanding material (400-1200 paper. I used 800) Picture of the paint products I used: (Hagman / Auto-K primer) (Auto-K Wheel Spray Titan Silver) (Auto-K Wheel Spray Clear Laquer) Step 1: Get the wheels of the car Step 2: Get the wheels to a comfortable place and start sanding the corrosion away. The more time you spend doing this the better the end-result will be. However, this is also the (in my opinion) most boring and most labour-intensive step. I used a Fein Multimaster to assist me with this step: With this tool I removed the worst parts of the corrosion with a 120 grit paper, and then finished off by hand-sanding with 120 grit and 240 grit paper. This is how one of the wheels looked after performing this step: Step 3: Apply the primer paint. Do this by applying several coats of thin paint layers. Step 4: Allow the primer to dry. After this, the spots requiring more sanding will be clearly visible. This is now solved by wet-sanding. The same wheel after performing this step: Step 5: Start applying the base coats, by still doing thin layers and then several coats. (To the left is a wheel with base coat applied, to the right one with only primer applied) Step 6: Apply the clear coat. Same as before - thin layers and cultiple coats. Step 7: Allow the wheels to dry (overnight preferably) Step 8: Put the wheels back on and hopefully enjoy the result of your hard work. The actual result actually looks better than the picture above tells. The end-result looks a lot more "popping" and more silver in terms of the color of the wheel than what the picture shows. So all in all - were my parameters initially set up (cost & time) met? * Cost -> Total cost was about 70£ (800SEK), including cost of paint and sanding material * Time -> It took me about a day to perform the steps mentioned above. I started Saturday morning and put the wheels back on Sunday morning (they dried overnight). I cut a lot of time waiting for the paint to dry by working on the wheels sequentially. When one wheel had its base coat drying, one had the primer drying, one was being wet-sanded and one was being initial-sanded for instance. Hopefully this helps anyone wondering if this is a DIY-job or not. Since I did not remove the tires, and did not sink the wheels into acid totally removing the corrosion it will probably eventually come back. However, spending one day to give me ease of mind not having to look at the horrible state of the wheels was enough reason for me to do it.

Ok I've just recently had a key done for my ls450 and it cost me 150.00 He supplied everything inc programming and complete key and 12months warranty Got him from ebay and all I had to do was take car to him swathe working key fob took him 20 mins.   3. Interesting development regarding the buildquality (or lack of) of TESLA, which has been discussed on this thread. In the Dutch press yesterday. "disappointed Tesla owners taking Tesla to court". 2 owners started a foundation called Tesla Claim then made a pressrealease and 3 days later already 118 other owners joined the bandwagon. They are reporting inferior buildquality resulting in ; bumpers falling off, doorhandles not working, engines needing replacement, 90kwh engines only having 78kwh after measuring, driveshafts breaking, autopilot causing emergency stop at highway, and so on. They are currently putting all issues together and it is expected more owners will join. To me this means Tesla is mainstream. The Tesla earlyadapters/fanboys were accepting everything. The new customers coming from other brands dont. Welcome to reality.

  4. Because I've a few cars and time is a factor I'd only do the clay bar, polish and wax thing once or twice a year (furlough helped immensely this year). The Bilt Hamber range is great for this, used their auto balm a few months back and it sped up the process greatly although I still keep a tub of Autoglym HD handy for the final coat. In my regular cleaning technique I use products from a local company which are really difficult to beat: Apply Anachem Articulate to dry paintwork and allow to dwell Snowfoam the vehicle with Anachem Ultrafoam Wash mitt, two buckets and Anachem Gleam (the Cherry Cola smells great) Rinse then use Anachem Ultragloss as a drying aid For the wheels I'd use the Anachem purge to loosen any stubborn brake dust then wheel cleaning brush and rinse. If time permits a coat of Anachem Hybrid adds extra shine I know that's a lot of mentions of Anachem but they offer bundles and once I tried the stuff I couldn't find anything that gave the same results so just topped up the collection every time I ran low. Been using it for years now so would recommend giving them a go. Just looking through old pics for cleaning shots and I miss my poor smashed RX, can only hope I get it back to this condition :

  8. bit of advice for anyone on here with high mile ct200h,I'm sure most have heard of this issue. it's worth getting egr valve, pipe and intake manifold cleaned out. seems to be common issue with these and the same generation prius. on way to work last week i started getting really bad engine shuddering under light acceleration. when under high load it went away. only shuddered when releasing accelerator. when starting car back up to go home it was still shaking. but after a less than a minute of driving it completely disappeared and has not come back. I asked my local mechanic about it and he said it's more than likely egr. he has done many jobs on the prius down the years. I never got any check engine light when it happened thankfully. I was able to take of the egr pipe to have a look. had some carbon build up inside it. anyway. sorry for long post. just something to look out for in future.

  9. Ok, here goes 😁.. Almost same as here .. , - Bilt Hamber are superb products and very reasonably priced.. I do the wheels/arches first though and once a month use Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel and a coat of Chemical Guys Bare Bones for the arches. Occasional coat of Bilt Hamber Cleanser Polish followed by their brilliant Double Speed Wax. If I'm in a rush, Auto Glym Aqua Wax is great for a layer of protection (can be applied to a rinsed and still wet car) before drying off. Oh, and CarPro PERL for the interior and exterior plastics/rubber is great too !😁

  12. Entering this discussion at my peril, but I'm an NX owner who likes driving. Please do not try to convince me that I do not like driving! It's true that SUVs have higher CoG, greater frontal area and generally weigh slightly more than equivalently-priced saloons or hatchbacks (though only a few tens of kilos for the NX over the ES). It's more of a challenge to get an acceptable ride/handling compromise, too, though Lexus manage it pretty well. But many people (including me) like the higher driving position, easy of entry and exit, airy cabins, and practicality of crossover-type SUVs. There's now almost a continuum of aspect ratios for vehicle design, from slightly raised hatchbacks (GLA, UX) to taller SUVs like the RX and Discovery. If you take a long view, until the early 1960s cars had a similar height and seat hip point to many current SUVs. The quest for lowness, which predated concerns about economy, can be seen as something of an aberration in car design (with the exception of sports cars, for which handling and lightness are crucial design objectives). The "SUV" label is now somewhat unhelpful as it embraces an increasingly large proportion of the models on sale, and the unexpected sales success of the first Nissan Qashqai showed the huge appetite for slightly higher cars. Indeed, the Qashqai and Kuga are arguably now what family cars look like, rather than being some kind of niche vehicle. This is why I think campaigns for a blanket ban on "SUV" advertising on the grounds of reducing CO2 emissions are misplaced. It's surely better to focus on the CO2 emissions of all vehicles regardless of format, and let customers exercise choice as to the height of their vehicle. And when Tesla figure out how to build them properly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Model Y outsells the 3.

  14. To be honest, as my language is not clear in English, none of the solutions would work for me, even if I really appreciate you offer. E so many options, and for this I thank you so much. The big problem raise when we talk about another very important element, that is: design and, above all, exclusivity. Since I drive my IS200/250/300H I saw very very few, less that the fingers on a hand. Here in Italy, or almost in my region, that is north east side, driving a IS or a RC it’s exclusive, not for the price (lot of people here drive AUDI, BMW or MB top of the range that cost more of my IS!) but as a sign of distinction. You distinguished becase you drive an hybrid car, uncommon and of the very best qualty ever, this is something that has an intangible, but very high, value in my opinion. So, cannot imagine to drive a “normal car” the same of other hundreds of people here, like sheeps, as I am also a designer my obsession for design and details are adding problem to problem too, another reason while I found incredible they ceased to delivery in EU so beautiful sedan lime the IS. And this also the problem of SUV: if you see a Lexus in Italy, generally is a UX or NX, rarely a RX (that I really love as it is the “originator” but 3.5 are to expensive to manage in Italy for tax) very rarely a IS or RC (never seen one on the road here) and LS is almost impossible, while MC S class is very common in the rich owners of small companies around here. So at the end, these factors concour too to create a big problem in the moment of decision, as it seems that not only tangible values should be considered, but those intangible too... and in this field, Lexus is a totally winner. Not easy, not easy.

In other words if it is matter of fining £300 part on ebay - I am doing it, but if it is £3000 fully custom development then sadly I will have to wait until I change the car to get rid of this cancer.

  19. Not at all, however as roundabouts are not a solution for all issues on the roads, equally full EV is not (yet) alternative for GS, IS and RC. 1... Pointing out both pros. and cons. is not being "against", it is just being objective. 2... I don't want to repeat myself, but Tesla quality simply does not represent the price-tag*, and technology does not somehow cover for lac of quality i.e. having massive screen does not mean that you can live with door handle not working. *And price-tag is important - they trying to sell Tesla as "luxury" brand, but their quality barely meets "barn build prototype" quality and that is an issue. That is why it is fair to call them out. 3... Tesla is not so new brand as you may think - it is 17 years old, so if quality was ever an important factor they certainly had enough time to figure it out. When Lexus came out to market with LS it was literally new brand (yes surely Toyota backed), but by your logic LS should have been plagued with quality issues? That said Tesla hired countless managers and engineers from GM, Apple, BMW, Audi etc. So they have "know-how" when it comes to building cars... not to mention EVs are inherently more reliable, because there are no complex mechanical parts... building interior which does not fall to bits and having panel gaps somewhat equal size is not rocket-science. All, above said - I am not against EVs and not against Tesla. For EVs a a whole I cannot own one because in UK, London and where I live there are no infrastructure to own one. As for Tesla - the built quality is a major issue for me, and until this is solved I can't accept the compromise. Yes sadly we both are in the same boat, because there are no solution, and there was no solution for a while. I understand that you found 300h acceptable, but even that wasn't the case for me. I owned 3 IS and now RC and my next car may be RC-F or LC (both price dependant), but more likely I will leave the brand for good. Why RC-F or LC - because that is the last cars Lexus have in EU which are worth the badge. Well LS is good car as well, but I am more into coupes and at worst "sport-saloons", big limo is not my type of thing. Regarding SUVs - it is not Lexus management decision, it is market and customer base overall... and there are good reasons for that. One making SUV cost the same as making any other car - 50kg of extra steel does not cost that much more for making bigger body, but with SUV one can charge extra 30%... and 30% is massive margin in the car manufacturing. As for customers... I have no answer - SUV (unlike 4x4 off-roader) is epitome of all bad characteristics of the car for me - poor handling, poor economy, high centre of gravity, heavier etc. but many people like it. I would almost argue - people who like SUVs, don't like driving.. Yes Toyota is downgrade, biggest issue for me is the driving wheels as I will never buy FWD car. However, why not other cars in your list? Because Toyota still has Toyota quality, french cars are literally trash on the day they are made and even Opel or Seat has noting comparable to Toyota when it comes to quality, re-sale values etc. The only other alternative I see is Honda. For me personally, I am pretty certain next brand will be BMW or MB... even today I would be much better served by BMW 6-Series rather than my RC, but RC is much more unique and much more cool, so compromises were made...

  20. To be honest as I live where they made Prosecco wine I prefer a cold glass of wine. But I have to point, that my assumption comes naturally because after three pages we talk about Tesla young manufacturer problems, but we didn’t find any solution or advice to an old and loyal Lexus customer that after two CT and four Lexus IS desperately want to stay as a customer of Lexus but, because someone else decide sedan are not trendy’s (for Lexus management only SUV are!) he should buy a ES or a SUV. I assume the alternative to Lexus is “a different Lexus”? Or a downgrade to Toyota? So at that point, if a Lexus customer should buy a Toyota why not a Peugeot or a Renault or a Opel or a Seat?

  21. Great job Chris and thanks for posting. My only worry would be that, because you didn't remove the tyres, you may have missed any corrosion present on the inside edge where the tyre meets the wheel and forms the airtight seal. It's quite common for that to happen and create a 'slow puncture' where the air slowly leaks out from a corrosion bubble.

  22. Ok, the battle seems against EV’s and in particular Tesla that after only few years in the market have problem of quality. (To be honest a look over Alfa Romeo, Audi or Volvo forums show that these decennial brands have lot of problem too as a personal owner of previous German Car -VW and Audi- I would never experience what I have passed) Assumed the car manufacturer Tesla is the worst in the world and we all think that the best alternative to Lexus is Lexus, to come in topic: ”if one that does not like SUV or any mini SUV, need to replace an IS330H in EU or UK in 2020 and just say no to ES, which car has to choose for another 4 year of lease?” Always remember that the title of the topic said that IS, CT and RC will be discontinued. Based on this statement, the RC that could be a good choice, could became soon after the purchase an “out of the market car” and most probably Lexus itself would not recognize any value. So? The only choice is to buy a Diesel German car? Or a mild-hybrid or how the German call their “hybrid” engines that are eons far from the tecnology of Lexus and will never be compared to the quality of Lexus? Or a Volvo EV’s? But we sain there’s not enough charging point! So absolutely NO to Ev’s let’s continue with petrol, OK. Or maybe to pay the last payment of the lease, in my case 17.000€, instead to swap for a new car and wait to know when in Lexus would offer an IS Ev’s and continue to drive a car that every month loose is value? Any other idea?

  24. Hi David I was recovered by Lexus Roadside Assistance, it happened in The Exchange in Ilford and the driver that recovered me said that he had done several of these recoveries that week. The Catloc was fitted by my Lexus Dealer and they informed me that on the Prius there was a three month backlog for new catalytic exhausts. RX had no date for deliver of these so I was lucky to get mine done within a few days. It has made me more aware of where I park the vehicle now even with the Catloc and stickers on the windows but it is still in the back of my mind. I just hope the scum that do it can read English! After all said and done I would not get rid of the car because of this. My insurance company was not interested when I told them I had the Dealer Catloc fitted with the database registration. I was thinking of a dashcam but I was told they will just smash the window and grab the dashcam. Good luck in you decision, personally it is not just Lexus/Toyotas it is other makes too. Steve

But my memory of my LS400 was that it was great to drive any distance. I have a used LC 500 coming next week of which I am looking forward to driving. I shouldn't have left it nearly 20 years to have another Lexus... I bought my LS from Plymouth, and the manager talked me into having the Lexus option wheels, which made the LS look better... I shouldn't have had them fitted because the ride was noticeably worse, although the LS looked better... I think the photo of mine might show the option wheels...? Have you got the option wheels on your's...?

  27. Ok yes it was a Radiator leak and got it repaired at UK TECNIK. git to say very impressed with approach and repair. Cost me just over 550.00 all in. I won't say what Lexus wanted. Not even worth considering. Very impressed with these boys and would highly recomend them as reliable indi.

  28. The first thing to know is if the 96.000 km RX has the 90 k service done, that is an important one. About Sport specs, afaik the main difference is in adaptive dampers, very useful but it' s about driving style.

  33. The recent-ish update to CarPlay allowed the map to be displayed on more than one location - the one location currently being the infotainment screen. The CarPlay software now permits multiple display options such as the HUD or things like the Audi display in front of the driver. The onus is now on the car manufacturer to initialise this or not. I love my HUD - all 10.2” of it - but I’ll only use CarPlay for messages and music and generally not Nav as I’ll miss the directional instructions in the HUD. I even have the map instructions on for places I visit frequently or where I know the route inside out. A car I’m going to look at this Sunday doesn’t come with HUD or ventilated seats and both of these are important to me so it would need to be really good elsewhere for me to consider it. In the meantime my Lexus Centre has reserved an RX Takumi in my spec that’s currently on a boat sailing from Japan. I need to decide by Sunday. The boat lands in Bristol 3 weeks today.

I have a similar LC 500 coming this week. But mine is a 2018 model. I got an email with photos etc, and bought it before their website showed any photos...   36. There is too much chat about using Toyota Red grease for the caliper pins. Think about it. For example CV joints. What covers them? Oh yes that's it a rubber boot. Now then does grease for CV joints attack the boots? No. So there is no reason what so ever to buy a grease thats not economic. Any grease thats for moving parts which are protected to dust by rubber boots will more than suffice. Plus do you really think a grease will damage a rubber boot in one year? I don't think so. Back in the day before all these different greases were on the market normal grease was used in all applications and also regular maintenance was done. Oh and there is a rear exhaust system available none Lexus at about £160. I have mentioned this elsewhere on here.

  37. I was quoted £25 per plug to change the spark plugs on my is250 from Lexus Stockport. I'm on a service plan over 3 years including MOT at a cost of £38 per month for 20 months. As for wheels refurbishment I got mine powder coated at £60 a wheel 17" rims (got them done coz I stupidly kerbed one badly). The is250 is such a superb car. The brake caliper sliders is an easy job to service. Enjoy your new car.

  38. Welcome to the club, Andrew, and to IS 250 ownership. I would say £400 for a wheel refurb is a bit on the steep side, especially if you have 17" wheels. My last refurb (which admittedly, was 5 years ago) cost me £60+VAT per corner and that was for a shadow chrome finish on 18" wheels. The damage to the window trim looks like it might just be mold/dirt that could be cleaned off using an All-Purpose Cleaner as suggested by Linas. If the finish is still flat/dull after cleaning, the Gtechiq C4 trim restorer is definitely a good shout. I've not used it personally, but it seems to transform dull & greyed-out plastics and rubbers. Regarding the service costs. Circa £500 doesn't sound too bad if the parts are included (are they?). A couple of weeks ago I got a local indy to service my car including the plug change. They also fitted new front discs & pads and repaired my parking brake. They charged me £240 but I supplied all the parts including the oil.

  39. Check out this 'How To' on 250 plug renewal and note no special tools required but just have to 'move' a fair bit of stuff out of the way to get to the right bank of plugs, that's why it cost so much at dealers!

  40. Hi all, I am back again, I have purchased an IS250 SE-L. I did have a 2010 IS250 F Sport a couple of years ago, but only had it for 6 months due to a job change. I'm looking forward to being an owner again, I've owned to many Honda's so I'm hoping Lexus becomes my new passion.

  42. Just to let you know, Nationwide theives are targeting Hybrid catalytic converters. Unfortunately mine was stolen. My Lexus dealer has informed me that the stock availability on Prius catalytic convertors has no ETA. My dealer has been able to get a Lexus one in for me. There is a device to protect the convertors currently but for limited Toyota vehicles and not for the Lexus ct200h. For anyone not seen the article, follow the link https://mol.im/a/7800625.
