  2. Yeah they seem to have done a good job repairing the body panels after we rolled it on that long Moroccan trip... πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† only kidding. It was much loved in my care.

  3. I've had my Luxury version coupe for 18 months now and love it. As mentioned, rare and always garners looks especially when parked. No problems or surprises. Very, very quiet when cruising . Have set my over taking indicator flashes for 8 times. Only disadvantage I can think about of, are the wide doors, possibly giving you a problem in city car parks. I'm retired, and as it's fairly low, getting out sometimes resembles falling out!

  4. Thanks John, Will do, I think the chap I dealt with has a day off today, so hopefully will hear back tomorrow. I checked the rest of the interior and it looks fine, it is just this one part. It isn't the end of the world and I know there is a lot more important things going on in the world but it is a bit disappointing. Will update as soon as I hear, thank you for the replies. Barry

  7. Unfortunately Lexus is not immune to timing chain stretch problems. It is a known problem with V6 & V8 engines causing a cam timing error code after 100K plus miles. Fortunately it is unusual for the chain to snap possibly because of the engine management light, and error code producing corrective treatment. John.

  8. I have had my LC500 for 3 weeks now, coming from a 991 Carrera S and previous F Type. Thought I would share my first thoughts. Bought the car from Lexus Guildford, 2018 with only 12k on the clock. Test drove drove a C63S before the LC but ultimately although a great noise and engine it did not seem special enough outside a normal AMG C class. Audi R8 V10 not at my price point yet. The LC won it for me with the engine / looks, I had to scratch the V8 itch before these are extinct. Love the fact it is two cars in one, comfortable cruiser or muscle car dependant on mood / conditions. It really does sound great once wound up although with all the rain I have only had a couple of dry outings. I specifically wanted the stealth look and found the black on black I wanted, at the time it was the only one around and had the Levinson and HUD. Never had so many people comment when out, either nice car or what is it. The infotainment is not as bad as the press reviews would make out, yes its not intuitive but once set up I do not need to change much, just wish the climate was simpler and Apple Car play was a retro fit. The Mark Levinson is the best stereo I have had in any car, when not booting it, this is a great sound to listen to. Interior is of a very high quality. The alloys are a bit bling for me but work with the car and no choice, just hope I don't kerb them. Car has had the fuel pump recall done before purchase and today I found I had the stuck fuel cap whilst trying to fill up, perfect! Call to local dealer, parts on back order, with 1 other customer and will be replaced Monday. Until then need to fill up with 2 people...... Small known issue just hope this is the first and last as I sold the Porsche due to two major water leaks in a year and lost confidence in the car. Apart from this really enjoying it, be interesting to see how bad the depreciation over years 3-5. Alex. B2AE49E2-D4AE-467C-9761-8A279422A439.heic

  9. It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the breakdown services had been called out several times due to the battery going flat. You should never let your battery go flat as the least it will do is to reduce its life. This calls for more frequent check of voltage if the car is insufficiently used as during lockdown for example. It would have been helpful if Lexus had included a readily viewable voltage gauge as Herbs has added on his car. A smart charger that will not overcharge the battery is better and fast chargers are best avoided to charge a standard service battery.

  13. Nice car Nick. I have similar digital display as yours. Mine is the standard car with the Premium plus pack. I also wanted Ivory leather interior having had this in all previous Lexus models I've owned, never been a big fan of dark interiors and it's not available in the Sport. I couldn't afford an F sport anyway (I'm a pensioner). My must haves were Adaptive cruise control, automatic dipping headlights and lane deviation the extras that came with the car were an added bonus for me. Just one question for you the sport has stiffer suspension does this make for a harder ride? I think the UX is a fabulous looking vehicle and the American motoring corespondents have nothing but praise for it compared to the criticisms from UK motoring correspondents.

  14. It's the factory fitted profile. They actually don't look as the Yokohama low due to the sidewall design. But they are far less crashy. Very pleased with them.

  15. 'Technically' MOT failure would likely fall under modifying OEM emission equipment (or worded something similar) if you got the mid pipe as its 2nd cat delete. However, the primary cats are all that are required for F cars to pass UK emission laws, but obvs with homolgation 2nd cats must be needed to comply elsewhere in the world. I tend to get mine MOT'd at a local garage rather than Lexus dealership for this reason. Lexus video the interactions so I would imagine it be tricky to get round 2 cats missing... haha. I also leave valves open, had my system on for 2 MOT's without issue now πŸ™‚. in terms of resale, yes value could be lower, but I've kept all the original stuff (on display in the garage).

  18. If it fails again, DO NOT TOW it to your mechanic. Damage can be caused to the Hybrid/ generator system. Hybrid driving wheels need to be off the road if towed. Refer to your handbook.

  19. As the headlamps are LED there really shouldn't be a need to change them and advised in the handbook they are dealer serviced only. I'm not even sure if the lamp units are available separately. Either way they won't be cheap!!

  20. Looks as if you have your servicing done by an independant garage, do you have an annual hybrid check done by Lexus (Β£59) which warrants the batteries for a year? This can be done up to when the car is 15 years old. If the current problem isn't hybrid related, may be worth an annual check just for peace of mind.

  24. I speak not as a Lexus technician or design engineer, nor in any official capacity whatsoever, but rather as a fully qualified, time-served electrician who, since completing my apprenticeship in 1978, has worked mostly in the maintenance and installation fields of both domestic and industrial electrics; spent most of my working career as a telephone engineer (cable jointer) on BT; and latterly self-employed doing computer repairs and bespoke builds, and whose hobbies include amateur radio (callsign G7IFM). In other words, most of my life has been spent dealing with electrical and electronics systems. I mean no disrespect to anyone but I really do think that a lot of people get hung up on this and overthink it to the nth degree, whereas it's really very simple. 12 Volts DC is 12 Volts DC in the UK, the USA, India, China and so on. 12 Volts DC is 12 Volts DC both at the back of the car (if the battery is in the boot) and also at the front of the car if you want to utilise the dedicated jump start post. 12 Volts DC is 12 Volts DC whether it comes from the car battery or a battery charger, or a trickle charger, or the car's own alternator or DC/DC converter. Trickle chargers can be connected to the battery whilst it is still connected to the car. The clue is in the name, ie, trickle charger. It only supplies enough current to overcome the quiescent current draw of things like the clock, the radio presets, the alarm etc., and also the self-discharge rate of the battery. Add all that up and it comes to far less than the battery itself can supply so, in and of itself, a trickle charger cannot do any harm unless - and this is very important - it goes faulty in some way. I would imagine that most, if not all trickle chargers, will have some sort of fail-safe mechanism to avoid any damage either to itself or to the car, but if something goes wrong I can take no responsibility - you do this at your own risk. Just sayin'

  26. Although not in the workshop manual it is possible on the V6/V8 engines to change the timing chain without dismantling the front of the engine, but just by removing the drivers side "RHD cars" cam cover. Obviously the timing chain in a 4 cylinder engine is under much less load than 6 & 8 cylinder versions with less cams to drive. The chain is also much shorter so that link pin ware is multiplied less by there being fewer links. John.

  27. Thanks Nemesis, yes that's what I was thinking too, it went to have a Supaguard treatment and also dash cams fitted front and rear between my test drive and picking the car up. I didn't even think to look at the seats when getting the car as I had never seen this on my old IS, I will see what the dealer says, I will also look at the back and passenger seats too. It is my 4 Lexus from them (2 second hand and 2 new) I was pretty annoyed when I seen it last night, I thought it was just a mark or bit of thread until closer investigation. Barry

  28. Never a problem in either of my RC300h cars. A car with 50 miles on the clock? An ex-demo car? Could have had dozens of bums in that seat. Either way somebody has sat in that seat with perhaps a pen in their back pocket, service tech? Or someone has lent on the seat holding a something pointy. We can guess all day! The leather in these cars are lovely and soft but also hard wearing. A repair is possible but would always be visible, especially as you know it's there. I'd push for a replacement cover.

  29. This car just keeps getting better. Really look forward to see this beast in person someday. Brings back memories of @sparkystav and @ormi's IS200 (turbocharged and supercharged respectively). When it's all done, you should take it to Lexus for an oil change just for laughs πŸ˜›

  30. Sure, sci-fi is always a theme from where to start for designers and engineers. Lexus is the best in the world to tell marketing stories showing beautiful things that at the moment of the commercial launch are totally different. If we imagine that LF-CC was the concept of IS, we can say that only few elements of interior design was them developed. From an all screen dashboard to a small 7" low res screen and all that buttons in plastic to push. I think the truth stay in the middle some brands are looking forward, some other are conservative: I agree totally with who said "Lexus (and not only) should look also to the competitors like Tesla and try to improve technology, interface, comfort, design, form/function" You cannot compete in the market of the future with only a good reputation in reliability.

  31. Glad to hear that you also haven't heard of timing chain issues on the IS300H (4 cylinder engine also used on GS300H) πŸ‘ I've read about timing chain issues on the V6 GS, but only the MK III (S190) and not the MK IV (L10). I've also read about some issues with the V8s - with one guy looking at a wallet crippling Β£6K quote from Lexus to remedy 😲

  32. As mentioned HUD and ML is a option, although i think most of the initial LC's brought into the country were for the dealership demonstraters so full spect out, sport+ models which is why you don't see many basic models for sale fuel cap has been done, haven't had a problem since. fuel pump does not need doing on a 2017 year, seems odd as you would have thought that the very first models would have needed to be done so what changed from 2018 i don't know. latest software is number 17. i did have a slight problem with the screen freezing but this update has seemed to have solved that. update number 19 will be out by the end if the month,

  33. Rather than opening up the car and re wiring the car with miles of cable and invalidating the cars 3 years manufacture warranty. The best thing is to sell the car or ask the dealer to have a part exchange and buying a car with the takumi pack. I have the ML version in my car and it sounds great. To put it bluntly you should have test drove the car and not bought the car. There are many pre owned used cars with the takumi/premier out there. Just get an upgrade rather than disturbing the car. I wouldn’t buy a car with an upgraded system which was completed by a third party on a brand new car as it invalidates the warranty

  35. I recently got FWD F Sport premium plus with driver assist end of Sept 20. My 1st hybrid. Regarding the boot size it sounds like you know what your demands and needs are so you will be fine. The FWD version has more space than the AWD a bowl provides more space under the lift up. Someone on this forum has removed the bowl and put a lidl boot liner in. Incidentally these Lidl boot liners are in store right now. The boot has more space than what you imagine first looking and there are a couple of side pockets as well and don't forget you can easily put the seats down if you want more space. I have the paddles but never use them i never used them on the Audi i had. I didn't want the glass roof. I have the large nav screen its very good and you can customize it to show different things with the screen split very useful. I have leather sport seats they are comfortable easy to get in and out of. The sound system isn't a ML but it is good. The power delivery is superb and spontaneous immediate pick up from a standing start. The noise you refer to is the CVT gearbox and the UX has ASC (active sound control) that can be turned on or off. Yes if you hit the pedal hard you will hear the engine but I've driven others with the CVT and Lexus without any shadow of doubt is far superior in my opinion. You will get used to it. The car handles very well i don't have any issues at all, i even had a play in sport mode the other day just to see. I would certainly test drive one nearer the time. I would definitely put it on your shortlist.

  36. Not at first but yeah, I plan on getting the GTHaus, diamond mats, space the tyres, rear tints, rear lights smoked, de chromed around the windows, front led strips tinted orange to match calipers, ghost immobilizer, and as more time goes on... RR Racing Super charger πŸ˜…and the remap. May lower not sure. The reg it comes with is pretty nice so shan't get a personalised. Not quite sure when I'll find the money for it all with Christmas coming up and clearly gonna have to spoil the wife & kidsπŸ˜…

  37. So ive continued to make progress, i now have the prop hoop sorted. The hoop itself didnt fit as the holes was too wide for where it bolts to the original prop center bearing holes. Ive had to cut the brackets off, shorten them by an inch and angle them in slightly so the holes measure 147mm apart. Then gave it a quick coat of Zinc 182 primer and a couple of coats of matte black paint to tidy it up and for some protection. I feel happy now this is sorted, if it does ever break it will cause alot of damage but at least it cant pole volt me off the road! Also got the SPA oil pressure and temp gauge sorted, this was a bit fiddly but got it done. I used the old A/C drain plug under the carpet to feed the wiring loom through, i have no need for it now the A/C has been ripped out. Still has a little room left in it for when i fit a fuel pressure sensor into the FPR. got all the wiring routed through and fuse fitted. Also mounted the programming switch for the gauge under the trim for the heated seats so nice and hidden. I then mounted the bracket for the gauge also under the trim by drilling a little hole and putting a nut and bolt in there. Turned out really well and also matches the colour of the rest of the dash lights. Also got the exhaust hangers done finally, it only had the small 1 at the very back the car that was for the rear silencer and a hard bracket bolted to the rear subframe, the front part was being suspended by the downpipe and flexi joint taking the full weight of it. I managed to get 1 each side of the exhaust so when they was located it hung perfectly inplace up to the flanges each end. I had to install my own hanger at the front in the transmission tunnel for this. I did this by removing the carpet and drilled 2 holes through the body, i then used riv nuts in the body so i could bolt the hanger up. Also made sure the body was protected after driling so the old tin worm dont set in. I got the hanger rods bent and welded at work they turned out pretty good, i just need to bend the ends a little more where they come through the mounts. So thats the exhaust finally finished, next up is probably going to be the catch can setup then maybe brakes or paint work.... we will see.

  39. Mine doesn't have ML or HUD. I didn't order the HUD from new as the F-style digital speedo is just fine. We have the HUD on our NX and, while this is nice, I am not really bothered about it. As for the ML, well, I only listen to talk radio (or the exhausts).
