  1. Hiya 😉. So I bought my GSF during lockdown. All over the phone and email, from just photos videos and conversations. As other people have mentioned yes you have 14 distant selling regulation which will allow you to return the car for any reason. You also have statutory consumer rights which means that if any faults occur within the first 30 days you can reject the car for a full refund. This is covered by the consumer rights act. Haggling on price is very minimal I noticed but I did try buying two cars from two different lexus dealers and got two very different services. Hull refurbed all my wheels, replaced breaks which didn't really need doing I was just fussy, gave me new tyres (none of the old ones were at limit ), had the body work machine polished to remove any swirls etc, they also offered me more on my trade in by nearly 50%, paid for my admin costs, delivered the car for free to Colchester from Hull, organised me a replacement card key which was missing, gave my next service early(so gives me an extra year cause I won't be mileage related servicing lol) and finally didn't try to hard sell me everything under the sun. For the record I took 0 add-ons. Coventry however.... Refused to do anything Would recommend trying a few different dealers

  4. First of all Dave, you're not buying Techstream. What you need is a miniVCI cable from eBay/Amazon or wherever and you need this cable to allow the laptop to talk to the car. Most of the eBay sellers (and I would imagine Amazon sellers too) also bundle a copy of Techstream in with the cable, but this is, of course, a pirated copy, which we can't discuss on here. The correct way to do it would be to buy the cable and then download Techstream (free) from https://www.lexus-tech.eu/DiagnosticTools/Setup and then pay for a block of time to use it, currently €5/day. Whichever way you go is a matter for your own conscience but you'll need that cable anyway no matter what, and I think this is the one I bought if I remember correctly.

  5. Hi John If your car was serviced at Lexus within the last 12 months, then the Hybrid Battery check would automatically have been done within that service, all routine services include the Hybrid check. Have you purchased Gold Membership with LexusOwnersClub (£59 for 2 years membership)? Gold membership entitles you to discounts on Lexus servicing and service plans. If you are looking at future services at Coventry for instance, you should get about 15 or 20% discount off your services. Well worth it!! BTW, My RX400h was one of the first batch of retail 400's into the UK in 2005 and I recently sold it to a very good friend having done 186,000 miles. Friend is still a friend and car still going strong!!

  6. thanks for you advice Roy and everyone else, the tyres all had over 5mm so new ones not needed, they did a new mot and 60k service for me and a boot liner, I took your advice on the 2 year warranty at £795 but they wouldn't give me 2 years free only the standard 1 year I actually found out 1 of their salesman was an old friend and he advised since the lockdowns lexus now have a pricing team who monitor prices all day long and price accordingly to compete against others as all their business is now on line and they simply cannot budge on price. After extensive research and gut feeling I went for the car and I'm very happy with it

  7. I bought my Lexus IS 300h (first one I have had) from Lexus Reading a few years ago and had all servicing etc. done there too. I don't have another Lexus dealer experience to compare it to but have had numerous other brands, including BMW and Mercs. I have been happy with the service I have received at Lexus Reading for the sale and on-going servicing - compares with or is better than other main dealers for other marques I have experienced. We also purchased a Toyota from the sister site next door and again were happy with that experience.

  8. I have a LS400 P reg that I would be willing to sell to somone who wants to give her TLC. It failed the MOT for the first time in the 20 years that I have owned it. A broken spring front nearside and small welding rear offside. Both fixed and sailed through MOT (December 2020). I am based in Surrey. I discovered this site because I want to pass the car on to an enthusiast. This car has never let me down.

  9. Thought this would of interest to all RX owners fitted with 20 inch alloys. Had Yokohama Blue earth winter tyres 235/55/r20 fitted in November..............bought on line at £107 each via Roundtrip Tyres.........had the tyres fitted by Lexus Derby coinciding with the MOT...........they charged £5 per tyre fully fitted and balanced. The car rides superbly with these tyres particularly in the wet. Living in the Peak District we have had plenty of snow and icy conditions recently.........the car behaved surefooted and stable albeit on short local covid allowed shopping trips etc. The car rides very well indeed, much better than the normal Bridgestones Summer tyres.

  10. Hey folks, lockdown weekends are a tad boring, so decided to try a wee mod to allow my boot lid to open automatically. Works a treat. Changed ONE of the stock boot lid struts with the below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2X-TAILGATE-BOOT-GAS-SPRING-STRUT-FOR-BMW-3-SERIES-E46-TOURING-99-05-51248232873-/183830220075?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292 Tried it with both replaced, but makes the boot pretty hard to close, with just one replaced, the opening is smooth and closing is a doddle. Not sure if this is a known mod but it’s a nice addition, no adverse effects that I have noticed! Video for demo. IMG_1594.MOV

  13. I’ve owned 6 Lexus including an NX Premier which was very nice with comfortable seats but a test drive in an NX F Sport can me crippling back ache after 30 minutes. The lumbar adjustment (for me) is poor and I found my lower back wasn’t supported properly. I didn’t have this issue in the NX Premier. I’ve driven and owned other F Sport models such as the GS and RX without seat issue. Always worth an extended test drive to check seat comfort. The NX F Sport though does look very, very good over other trim levels.

  14. Herbs, Nick, . Aaah! I knew the moment I posted that I'd 'cocked-up' the terminology - - but as I was into my third Laphroaig (1/4 Cask) of the evening - I took the lazy way - and didn't re-write. I appreciate your advice, and whichever 'bits-o-wire' I buy, I'll be buying blocks of hours from Lexus. Thank you

As you may have noticed I sent him a PM one week ago and to which he has not responded. I wonder if he has looked at the video I posted today ? If I recall correctly he did refer in one of his first posts, that the dealer had made him a very good offer. Anyway, one can only take the horse to water........

  21. Not sure what manual you have but the UK one has all parts related to the Theft Deterrent System all in one place including the section on the Intrusion movement sensor. There would be no reason for 'ultrasonic' to be mentioned. This is an owners manual, the owner doesn't need to know if the sensor uses microwaves or ultrasonic or any other form of detection - just that it detects movement within the vehicle and you have the ability to override it if you have something leave in the vehicle that moves or you want to keep the windows down.

  23. Not sure about turning circle but it wouldn't matter to me anyway - just do a 3-point turn, no problem. Slower? No idea, but plenty fast enough. Sat nav is indeed rubbish, being counter-intuitive, clunky, slow and outdated but isn't that normal for almost any Lexus? I much prefer to use Sygic or Waze or Google Maps on my phone as they are kept up to date on an almost daily basis and allow users to report problems that are fed into the system within minutes. Apart from that the little 'mouse' by the gear lever is difficult to use, especially if you're right handed because you have to use this thing with your left hand. When I try to use it it's like some alien has taken over my brain because I know where I want the pointer to be but just can't get my hand to coordinate with my eyes! The RX450h is newer, brighter and a whole order of magnitude better in every way, sort of car. Seating is more comfortable; layout is much better; lighting is better and so on. Admittedly, I had an RX300, not a 400h, but apart from the drivetrain they are very similar and I can say that I'm very pleased that I traded up.

  24. Yes, excellent service from Lexus/AA Turned out to be a duff battery! I thought it was less than 3 years old but turned out to be more closer to 5 years. Original battery lasted 8 years and the replacement was the same GM part so assumed life would be about the same. AA charged £135 fitted for a Bosch which I don’t think too bad. Still got a glow plugs error code but seems to start fine, I’ll get it booked in for a full service and get them to look then. It’s a 08 Astra which refuses to give up and been a great car, leave where you like, skip runs, no worry about parking dings! 1st time needed breakdown cover in 13 years of ownership so done well, and battery maintenance anyway.

  25. Thanks...but of course I didn't do any of the hard work! To be fair, the car was a great buy in the first place. (Plaudits to Lexus MK). I've had it three years and only doubled the mileage in that time. I also took shots of the engine bay and the interior, but haven't managed to load them. But they also look in as-new condition. So what with the coatings having a claimed life of 8 - 10 years, there's a real chance the car will outlast me! Which will make it a good buy for somebody.

  27. Well if I haven't made another bog of inserting them, I hope they don't disappoint! Of course the purpose of all these systems - glass coating or film wrap - is preservation as much as shine, without the requirement of constant reapplication. Which is where they score over traditional waxes. And as I said, after Ryan's hard work, the white seems to be not just glossier, but whiter. In that respect, I think I can describe the overall condition as 'Showroom'. Which after 6 years and 30K miles suits me fine!

  29. I don't see AGM stated anywhere on the battery (at least not on the bits that are visible when mounted in the car) Mine is red with tan interior (when I was trying to decide I thought maybe there was too much tan with no darker colours to break it up but in the end I was happy with my decision, goes well with the red). Herbie, thanks for the advice with regards to where to connect. That makes sense. I just wanted to double check before doing something I might regret.

  31. TL;DR very smooth and good value. Hi all Thought I’d share my experience buying a car from cazoo as I got a few questions and this forum really helped me make the decision. I bought this car, A 64 plate premier in white with 34.5K miles for 20 300 https://www.cazoo.co.uk/used-car/f48827b8-0a97-5648-aa6f-0d6bed9958fa/ and it was about 4k cheaper than an equivalent car from a lexus dealer and I spoke to a few trying to get them to get close in price (I really wanted a Premier with Pano roof) The ad had very good pictures and 360 views but it’s very light on the detail but since it’s a premier, I could just read on the forum what the features was. They do list the service history but I had to contact them to get it added as it wasn’t on there at first. The purchase was very smooth you can opt to trade in your existing car which I didn’t (have an import so hard to get good value) hence not sure if it’s a good deal or not. You fill in your details, choose if you want the “Cazoo guard” paint and interior protection treatment for £250 (1/3rd of what lexus quoted me) which came with a ton of cleaning supplies as well. Credit terms were a lot less favourable than your normal bank hence i paid with my debit card. The money wasn’t actually taken until it was delivered though. You then choose a delivery time, my first available slot was 5 days (3 working days) away and that was basically it. I immediately got an email confirmation which outlined what I needed to do, how to activate the 7 day driveway insurance and how to register myself as the owner of the car with DVLA. Gave me everything I needed to request a parking permit from the council in advance. A few days before delivery I got an email reminder and also a call from customer service explaining the process and was able to answer any questions about the car if I had any. They also explained the 7 day return policy and 90 day warranty (extendable for a price). Basically, the 7 days is quibble free, they take it back no questions asked. Only caveat is that “Cazoo Guard” isn’t refunded and trade in cars aren’t returned. It had another service before I got it and from there I could see that Cazoo must have bought it in mid 19 and been with them for 18 months based on the milage in the service records. Since registering it on lexus.co.uk I can see all the service records as well On the day, the delivery man calls 15 mins before delivery. The car arrives in a small lorry and the is just serviced and valeted so it looks new. You get a few extras, like an umbrella, ice scraper etc. My delivery man Errol, was very knowledgable and showed all the features including waiting around for me to take a test drive. He had all the time in the world and was super helpful and friendly, genuinely interested in cars and making sure we had a good experience. The car was exactly like the pictures, it looked brand new except for small scratches on the back of the door handles, which is only visible if you look hard in the right place. I think the car mats had been replaced with new, non-nexus ones as they were pristine. Everything worked as described and I’m very pleased. After the delivery you get a notification that V5C has been digitally transferred and the normal “rate our service” emails. I'm sure service will get worse and prices become less competitive as Cazoo continue to scale and get a more dominant market position (I know startups better than cars!) but at the moment they are trying to get market share by spending their Venture capital funding and as such, a good time to buy as they are more concerned with attracting new customer for future profitability than making a profit now, hence having good value deals. Additionally, the delivery man alluded to the fact that they aren't great at pricing different trim levels and you get a better deal for top specced cars than the mid range, not sure if that is true but it was quite a good deal for my premier compared to the luxury ones they had in stock.

  32. They are part of the Toyota Group but I think they are part of Toyota Tsusho Corporation not Toyota GB or Toyota Financial Services UK which are the two retail entities we commonly associate with Toyota in the UK. I don't think it really makes any difference other than I guess they have more duty to uphold the Toyota brand.

  34. It's very difficult to know what the average is though over a period of time with the bar chart. I always use the After Start measurement for one of the display options - you can then just flick to it if you are interested after a particular journey. Then always subtract 1 or 2 mpg as the fuel computer is alway optimistic.

  38. As it happens, Ryan was due to completely wrap the next client car which was already waiting outside. He uses XPEL Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film - which suggests it's pretty good! In fact it's claimed to be superior to glass coatings in that it's a high gloss finish that resists the effects of stone chips, scratches, scuffs and swirling. Apparently if it ever needs any attention, it is simply heated and reforms to its original surface. As well as a gloss finish, it also comes in matt and with a 10 year warranty. I imagine the price reflects this superior product. You can see more on his website: huntsmiths.co.uk

  39. I have now collected my IS250 from the Automotive Detailer (I’ll call him Ryan, as that is his name). So, was it worth it? (Dramatic Pause) (Quick Cuts to Anxious Faces) Yes, it was! (Collective Sighs of Relief and Hi-Fiving!) It’s not just that the car has come back looking clean and shiny. For some reason I had got it into my head that it was Pearl White. Turns out it was Arctic White – and now looks it. Ryan thought it was in good condition anyway for a car that had done 30K, but has now eliminated what little swirling there was. So I would venture to say that it is, if anything, now looking better than when I bought it from the Dealer three years ago. And it looked pretty good then! Having said that, I’m sure a good waxer could match the actual shine. The difference with these glass coatings is that they don’t have to be regularly removed and renewed. They also protect the paint surface in ways that waxes can’t. As an additional hard coating over the paint, they help to prevent scratching, swirls and discolouration. Unlike waxes, the combination of Modesta Glass Coatings is claimed to have an 8-10 year life, depending on usage. I’m also pleased with how the wheels have turned out. The combination of alloys and low profile tyres was not an ideal choice for pot-holed country lanes. But the Alloygators served well to protect the rims and the baked-on ceramic coating has now refreshed the alloys and will help to protect against road grit. So, any downsides? Well...No more easy-option car washes! From now on it’s a regime of proprietary shampoos with the pressure washer and a wipe over with special formula every five washes or so. The dirt will, I’m assured, simply wash off the glass surface. Well, we shall see. It certainly does so in the videos! I attach some shots, I hope, which will give some idea of the results. For me it’s the two shots by the rear wheel arches that best illustrate the changes. I’m not sure if it will be apparent, but there is a distinct colour improvement, for one thing. Also note the before shot showing the film panels by the rear wheels. Apparently some Lexus owners remove these, but as Ryan pointed out, Lexus put them on for a purpose. However, he did say that Lexus also put the bare minimum on, so he slightly enlarged the replacements. And they’re much harder to see with the new coatings on. My apologies if this is a longer posting than usual. But I hope it might be helpful if anyone else is contemplating investing in this kind of car protection. As it is, I can certainly recommend Huntsmiths Detailing if you’re anywhere near Brackley in Northamptonshire. PS: The other images I have appear too big to load. I'll have to reduce them in size if anyone really wants to see more!

  41. Thanks for all the advice guys!! In the end I went with my head and pick it up yesterday. So I am now the proud owner of an IS300h Advance! Although it drives very different from my old Gen 1 IS300, the drive home certainly brought back nostalgia and I'm very happy to be back behind the wheel of a Lexus. I forgot to take a picture when I picked her up as I was busy chatting away to the sales manager but have attached a pic from the advert. I'm about to purchase the OEM rubber floor mats, boot liner and mud guards. Is there anything else i should consider?

  43. As Roy said. My is300h averaged high 30's. My journeys were short like yours. On a run to Leeds tho I'd be getting 50 easily. Don't sweat about your mpg figures. There's nowt wrong with them. Oh you were getting better mpg in your is250 than I'm getting on the short journeys in mine.
    1 point
  44. Cold weather and short journeys definitely aren't going to help your mpg. I set one of my display options to show mpg after start so you can see the mpg per journey - that will quickly show you how uneconomically those short journeys can be. The hybrid system on the IS is quite slow to shut down the petrol engine once it has started. If I did a short journey to the station and back, only around 3 miles round trip, I'd struggle to get more than 30 mpg, even when it wasn't winter. My wife's Prius, with the next gen hybrid system, would shut down much sooner and you could get 45 to 55 mpg on the same journey. On longer runs, typically 15 miles, my IS300h used to average around 48 mpg - that was an F Sport with a mix urban/dual carriage way/motorway. The Premier should be similar, if slightly better due to better aerodynamics, but it is normally the vehicle on 17" wheel that consistently get over 50 mpg.
    1 point
  45. Cold weather and short journeys don't do the fuel consumption any good as the engine has to work to heat the car and there is quite a drain on the battery for lights wipers etc. Consumption will improve a lot on longer journeys and especially in warmer weather (best mpg seems to be when air temp around 20C). Overall across a few years of mixed driving I'm around 48mpg on the car computer (17" wheels) - wait for it to average over some warm weather and longer runs to get a better idea.

  46. I rarely use the foot operated parking brake. When I leave the car at night I just leave the gear selector in Park and like a conventional automatic that locks the transmission. But this isn't robust enough to hold the car on a hill so I use the parking brake if I'm parking on a hill. If you're doing a hill start you don't need to operate the parking brake. When you take your foot off the footbrake the car is held automatically by the brakes for around 3-4 seconds to give you time to shift your foot to the accelerator. But if you don't press the accelerator the car will start to roll backwards after these few seconds. And at traffic lights you just keep your foot on the footbrake until the lights change.

  47. I rarely use the heated seats but my passengers always use them in winter and love them so maybe its a drivers seat thing. I also had a 2006 S class and yes it was comfortable but ultimately an absolute dog of thing that cost me an arm and a leg before I got rid of it. Best seat I ever sat on was in a Citroen CX Prestige - a real armchair experience (although I am told some older American cars have big plush chairs as well) I've as yet to get around to fixing the hard seat on my car as some thing called a pandemic closed the place I was going to take it to and the usual round of no travel restrictions alternated with the lockdowns and I never got a chance.
