  2. Update - for those who showed an interest! Pirtek in Exeter remanufactured the part for me for £78 inc VAT, taking two business days. This compares with paying Toyota UK £285 to ship it from Japan, which would have taken 5-6 weeks. Many thanks for the pointer @Herbie

  3. it's brilliant that we can use industrial bespoke hydraulic type hose manufacturers .... I remember years ago I had to get a replacement hydraulic hose for a Rolls Royce we had in stock ( my car sales business ) and the part from RR was more than two arms and several legs costwise ....... local hydraulic hose people produced one for me at a then staggering £80, fairly instantly BUT at a fraction of RR price tho' Malc

  4. We had a new kitchen about 14 years ago and had fitted mainly Neff appliances. A few months ago the start button on the combi oven/microwave became faulty. Checked out the cost of calling out Neff to repair and decided it was not worth it. Found a local Microwave specialist nearby. Removed unit from housing and took it to them late one afternoon. The following morning was advised that it needed a new board and the cost of the board was £323, or if we didn't mind losing the '90' button, they could fix it for £85. Told them to do the £85 repair and was able to collect it after lunch that very same day. Had we replaced the unit then we would have had to have a matching oven as well, so well pleased with the outcome.

  5. Few reports on Neff good and bad. I bought a massive Neff top of the range double oven about 17 years in our last house cost a fortune it did everything i asked. Changed bulb once. Put a Neff single oven and gas hob in this house. The oven packed in out of warranty so got shut. The hob every now and again an ignition spark sounds no idea why. I dont think i will purchase a Neff again.

  6. Said I'd do a quick intro despite being a lurker for a while! Joined the Lexus world 2 years ago with a ct200h I brought in from Lexus Glasgow and just last week upgraded to a 'new to me' is300h from Lexus over here. 2016 with only 10,000 miles! Delighted with it. Pre facelift, but the others available were no match for this! Spent some time making it shine as we have got the first bit of sun in a long time!

  7. The same with me, I never dispose of anything until I've tried a repair, it gives me great satisfaction to beat the system if I can!

  11. ZAPMAP is really good for finding chargers close to home. Theres absolutely loads on there including a route planner which would be very helpful. But Ideally for an "only" car youd need a realistic range of 300 miles

  12. AEG was good back then. For the last 15 years they have been part of Electrolux, and most models are no longer built in Germany.

  13. Have had a AEG double oven for 23years, now showing signs of going AWOL (mainly the seals around the triple glazed panels), so we have condensation dripping off the door. Have tried a quick fix with JB Weld (used to repair cast iron fireplace no problems), but not worked. So been looking at modern replacement, and to be frank none of them look like they are going to last 23 years (though not sure I will either). Bosch is okay, though does depend on whether Turkey or Spain is where the products made. Would love to have had the money to buy a ieile washing machine, but now on 3rd machine in 40 years (so not too bad), current one is AEG. Whenever I have taken about noisy end of life Washing machines it is seems to me that the dampers failing causes the whole shebang to start shaking itself to death, which knackers the bearings quick as you like. I always like the lack of noise a new washer makes. All this talk about a law to force repairable machines will be a little useless (IMHO) as the parts will be so expensive, as I cannot see manufactures being charitable when they cannot sell us new toys. Still as least I have a man cave littered with bits and bobs ripped out of dead appliances that might come in handy to repair who knows what in the future. Even managed to repair the ironing board so that with its new stainless steel (simple) bearing, will last way longer than John Lewis ever envisioned.

  14. I think I see something of a trend here. We too have a Bosch - a dishwasher. It had an attractive selection of wash programs printed on the top of the door edge. Above it was a handy sticker describing those programs. Well, that was the first to peel off. I contacted Bosch in MK, supplying photos, and they eventually sourced a replacement sticker from Germany. Naturally that didn’t last much longer than the original. But by then another problem had surfaced. The printed programs on the top edge, which related to the touch sensitive buttons under the metal, were also fast disappearing. So apart from already knowing where the On, Rinse and Start buttons were, the other 11 program buttons had become a kind of lucky dip. So back to Bosch who, after more pictures, offered to send an engineer round with a replacement door frame, FOC. Engineer duly arrived and left having fitted new frame, resplendent with fresh, printed programs. Unfortunately he’d left his mark in other ways. The combination of his work boots and heavy metal tool box had left a lattice work of scratches on our polished laminate oak floor. So back to Bosch. They immediately sent someone round to assess the damage - which turned out to be the same engineer who’d caused it. But credit to him, he accepted liability and Bosch then contacted me to arrange repair. Four months later, after several companies had turned down the challenge, a French Polisher (not a Polisher who was French, you understand) sourced by me, turned up and removed the scratches. To prevent the problem recurring I fashioned some strips out of screen protectors and stuck them over the printed lettering. Now, six years on, some of the lettering is showing signs of giving up again. I should add that throughout this saga, everyone at Bosch was helpful and concerned. But really, how hard can it be to devise a method of marking stainless steel that steam won’t remove? Or to train engineers to wear soft overshoes and put their tool boxes on protective mats - as other visiting tradesfolk usually did.

  15. ^^ Mine too, except my boot goes up and down quite quickly...depending on how hard I feel like raising or shutting it, as mine is fully manual! It’s definitely the best car I’ve ever owned. I absolutely love it, and appreciate it more the longer I own it. Superb!

  16. Problem solved at an indy garage (cancelled Lexus look and see) Driver's side calliper not retracting and constant pressure on pad causing major damage. Refurbished calliper ordered £150, plus Indy's time plus two new pads and labour £145=£295. Since lockdown I have not driven the RX as much so calliper had rusted on one pot. Thanks for all your advice guys...!

  19. As a contrast I am not one to worry about ‘insuring’ things, Certainly not one of the most reliable cars ever made! Some people tend to want to insure ‘everything’...phones, washing machines, fridges ( one of the most reliable appliances out their!) and TV’s but not me. Get a well maintained 250 and look after it well ( maintenance wise I mean ) and it will serve you for a good long while and be very cost effective in the long run. Note: I know you are looking at later cars but if you do go ‘older’ for some reason check out this thread.

  20. Just to add my 3 pence worth having bought a 2010 IS250 SE-I late last year. Don't discount Lexus Main dealers, I concluded that you can get a lower mileage IS250 from independent dealers, ebay, facebook, autotrader etc or a higher mileage IS250 from a Lexus dealer for more or less the same price or a bit more. My experience of buying last year. I looked at independent dealers, ebay, facebook, autotrader etc for a 'good' one. I did see a blue IS250 SE-L (2006/07 iirc) with lowish miles, fsh apparently and had all the extras and toys I was looking for but I wanted a silver car really so didn't pursue it. I then thought about Lexus main dealers, just out of interest I had a look at what was available and what the price difference was compared to other sources. When I looked on a Wednesday there were 4 or 5 IS250's for sale at Lexus Wolverhampton ranging from 6.5k to 10.5k some with low miles and some with around 80k. So I called them and decided on a silver 2010 IS250 SE-I (not an SE-L which I was looking for) 84k, fsh, nearly all of the extras and toys (sat nav, parking sensors etc but not ML audio, memory seats, HID headlights etc that you get with the SE-L). There was a black SE-L with 80k miles but I didn't want black so plumped for the SE-I. Negotiated on the price plus an extra 2 years extended Lexus Warranty and 2 year service pack. All in it was around £7,300 (can't remember exactly). I don't think it was too expensive considering peace of mind with a Lexus Warranty. By the Friday of the same week all the IS250's had been sold so they do come up for sale at main dealers but they don't seem to stay around long. The deal was all done remotely, car had a full service, front alloys done, bodywork scratches sorted and the car was delivered to my door. Painless operation all round and I couldn't be happier, apart from it's not an SE-L but you have to compromise sometimes according to what is available at the time.

  21. This can help https://media.lexus.co.uk/category/corporate/sales-figures/lexus-sales-figures/ But unfortunately the RC’s are all grouped together. However if you deduct the number of RC300H’s from the total RC’s this will give you a total of 380 RC-F’s and RC200T’s. Not going to be many RC200T’s in that number 😎

  25. Clearly you must sit in and drive it before buying. I’ve only known one person who bought a car without even driving it and that was a business partner who bought a Saab on my recommendation. Fortunately he loved it and enjoyed it for some years! The first time I saw the IS250 was on the dealer’s forecourt. It looked exactly what I was after, but it was replacing a Honda Accord which was, I discovered, about 4cms taller. So I was worried about feeling cramped inside, and I’m shorter than your good self. To my surprise it actually felt roomier in the front with more headroom. Maybe the seats - which are very comfortable - sit lower on the floor pan. It also felt wider, although it was actually a couple of cms narrower. I should add that the seats have three ranges of adjustment and the steering wheel two. My BiL is just about 6’ and finds the back cramped but the passenger seat is adjustable enough to give him the head and leg room he needs. So it’s true that some taller folk may feel the back is less spacious - but I don’t sit in the back! And neither will you! My very first impression when getting inside was that this is a very pleasant place to be. And I still get that same feeling every time I do it.

  26. MOST is communication between headunit and amp. These are the only two devices connected to this system, therefore it has to be a problem with one of them or the cabling that goes between them. You can get into the diagnostics by using the following procedure: Turn the power switch on (IG). Wait for navigation map to appear. While pressing and holding the "MENU" switch, operate the light control switch: Off → Tail → Off → Tail → Off → Tail → Off. Diagnostic mode starts and the "Service Menu" screen will be displayed. Service inspection starts automatically and the result will be displayed. Then go to failure diagnostic > system check > select MOST from the error list and perform MOST Line Check.

  27. Just a quick update, so I managed to find a video on youtube going through the DL3 initialization process. So I used a paperclip and connected the 2 terminals, the lights on the dash then started flickering, I left it for 30 secs then removed the paper clip and tried to register the tpms but still came up with the same message. Next step will be to try and disconnect the tpms from the module. If I can find it. Will keep u guys posted

  29. You don't really want to ever see it full because it means regeneration braking has to be disabled because there is no where to store the recovered energy. If you travel for long enough down a slope then you will see it but it is quite rare to see it in normal driving.

  32. When we lived in Porthleven Cornwal in 1998 we bought a detatched bungalow with a Worcester heatslave oil combi boiler already installed years prior. Needed a new photo cell and water pump and a service. A few months later failed again. Engineer said change the control box. Went to a heating spares place in Helston and bought an updated control box and adapter plate as old one updated. Fitted it myself and it worked great. Heating and hot water worked better than ever. Sold bungalow 11 months later in 1998 to a retired lady. Must of Died around 4 years ago and in property listings listed Worcester heatslave oil combi boiler! So was still working. It was 25 years old when we had it. Best of all around £120 at the time for 1000litres of heating oil! James.

  33. Good mechanical gearbox although not "Lexus like" is still fine in my opinion, but the one fitted in IS220d isn't even a good gearbox. The gear rations are rather steep and unsuitable for UK, as you mentioned 6th is totally useless under 70MPH and only really becomes useful at 80+ (which is obviously illegal). Probably in Europe where in most countries 90MPH is the legal limit that makes sense, but not in UK. On top of that manual gearbox requires more maintenance, at 100k miles expect to change clutch and DMF... parts and labour ~ £1000

  34. ^^^^^^^ Exactly this. There's nothing magical or mystical or Lexus-specific about wheel bearings, brakes or anything like that. These are everyday jobs for thousands of garages up and down the country.

  35. 1. Can't say that I find this a problem and I rate the driving comfort highly. 2. Agree that it is a bit slow but you get accustomed to it. 3. It has its uses as others have detailed. 4. Yes I have very occasionally managed to get all bars lit - after long downhill travel but the norm is that its two bars short of full. My gripe is that it only has a single reversing lamp. A car of this quality should have two!

  36. This is neither the worst nor best appliance purchased because it’s one we inherited when we bought our house - a Worcester Danesmoor oil boiler. Now 32 years old and regularly serviced for the last twenty one. Looked after by the same small family business who provided the same service for our previous house, every year I expect to be advised to get a modern replacement. But no. After a good internal scrubbing and the occasional jet replaced, it’s pronounced good for another year and they refuse to try and sell me a replacement. Similarly a 10 year-old Honda Izzy lawnmower became difficult to start up one Spring, so I thought it time to replace it. I called the lad who’d been regularly servicing it about buying a new one from them. He was horrified at the suggestion and insisted that they give it another service. He said the modern Izzy is much inferior in quality and I would regret it. Another service was all it needed! And so it proved. So more examples of they don’t make ‘em like they used to! And that possibly applies to the traders too.

  38. - We have an NX and I find I am able to rest both my arms quite easily on both arm rests, between the two seats and by the door. Actually I find them very comfortable, but my arms are fairly long so... - Boot is a little on the slow side, but really never bothered us. I feel lucky just to have a boot that opens automatically. - In the warmer weather and going down long hills while regen braking, it's more than possible to get a full battery with all but the tiny bar full. I've had a 100% full battery with all bars full when going down seriously long hills. You should try and do all your braking using regen and try never to bottom out on the charge meter, and when you get better at this you will find you get a full battery more often and improved fuel economy. - EV mode button is for a few situations like when starting in the morning when you don't want to engine to fire up. You can also use it when creeping around, and if you have an almost full battery and the car is warm, it should allow you to go up into the second half of the eco section in the speedometer. However, you will need to have the car in ECO mode and be very light on the accellerator to keep it in EV mode. All in all, it does have it's uses, especially when you don't want the engine to turn on in quiet situations (i.e. car parks, starting up the car, waiting in the car when kids around ,etc, etc...) I will say this though, EV button mode works much better on my IS and in our NX.

  40. Hi Paul, 1. Haven't noticed that at all! 2. I haven't noticed this either. It's the same speed as my previous car I'd say. 3. To prevent the engine starting, eg. First thing in the morning just to warm up. It doesn't stop it starting under normal conditions where it would anyway, like when you put your foot down. Not very useful I agree. 4. I've had it full bars a number of times, particularly after coming down long hills. 👍
