Thanks chaps 🙂 I have no plans to leave here, and since the Kia Stinger forum seems non-existent, I still need somewhere to go everyday to catch up 🙂 How does it feel? Honestly, a bit odd. I keep expecting to see it out of the window and there is just a gap. It was sad yesterday knowing it was going to be my final drive in it (I may have said a few words to it on the way...🙂) At this point, my Stinger is due at the end of November, so my GS sold a little too soon! I am borrowing my brother's car for a while, but might have to consider something to run around in until mine turns up. I know what you mean Vlad about looking around. I really struggled to find something that fit my requirements, especially with regard to reliability and good dealer service. I don't think the dealer experience will be as good for the Kia, but apart from that, I think the rest of the ownership prospects are looking promising. I will of course keep you guys updated, assuming you want to hear about a Kia...🙂4 points

I’ve just bought the white 67 plate Sport plus from non Lexus dealer in Kent. I have been abroad, so i haven’t seen it in the flesh other than a video, so this story is a bit of a worry. However I had insisted it was serviced at a main dealer (fr relax scheme) and also insisted on seeing the health check report which is done as part of the service. I also rang the dealer Tunbridge Wells to check on it. Brakes will need doing in a year but otherwise report was all green. On the bodywork front the vendor said in writing it hadn’t been in any accidents so if I find it has then they’ve inadvertently committed fraud. Will be picking it up this week, so will update on condition. ….better be fackin perfick…. 🙂2 points

Got to be the most satisfying Lexus fix there is. A bit of messiness dismantling the motor and removing the broken nylon toothed belt but reinstalling the new mast and belt is great. If the OP does decide to fix rather than replace then buy genuine Lexus. Replaced the broken electric aerial in the MR2 with a manual one from Halfords. About a tenner iirc.2 points

I've always run my IS-F on Premium 95RON unleaded as that's what it's designed for and so the only effect of buying super was higher fuel bills. But now that the premium unleaded has all changed to E10 I've switched to E5 super unleaded because once you factor in the MPG loss of E10 (due to the higher ethanol/lower petrol content) the cost per mile of premium/super is roughly the same, and so it's basically just a case of "do you want you car to go further per tank or not" 😛2 points

The severe schedule has transmission fluid to be replaced every 60k miles/6 years. Being used as a taxi is categorised as needing to use the severe service schedule.2 points
-
a lot of manufacturers state that transmission oil should never be changed. Yes you will always get residual mixture of old and new, the fluid in the external lines and cooler being the majority that's left behind. By replacing most of it I would guess/hope that the overall quality of the new oil is better than the oil that's just been removed.1 point

No beeps by default. A long beep indicates an issue such as door left ajar or keys in the vehicle. I believe there may be a confirmation beep setting but that can only be enabled via dealer/Techstream software. Personally I find the noise of the door locks enough to confirm you have locked the vehicle, and I always use the smart entry way to lock the vehicle by touching the door handle so I'm always close enough to hear.1 point

If you set the mirrors to autofold when car is locked, it is a quick way to tell whether the car is locked or not. We all go through the new car paranoia so don't worry haha! Enjoy 🙂1 point

Mine only makes a beep noise if you have left the ignition on or left the key in the car and then try to lock it or even shut the door. My RCF does not beep normally when being locked.1 point

The it was cylinder 1 side (passenger for UK) in the manifold. That is bank1 sensor1 isn't it?1 point

Update. Called Lexus Coventry twice but service not at the desk will get them to call you back, never did so a little while ago popped back to Halfords to get the battery checked over now I know where it lives (thanks to Herbie) and it turns out that it is in very good condition and the whole boot area under the cover is like new. Nextbase 522GW fitted both front & rear and working fine, so it would seem that the BlackVue was indeed faulty so glad to see the back of that.1 point

i think you could be right, taken it out in the dry today and its fine, they are relatively inexpensive, so will get a set and bang them in when i change the pads1 point

I have European breakdown cover and my insurance gave me a green card, though not needed. Did take out extra health cover for the month though. As to mileage. I did a straight run in one day from Brighton to Southern Switzerland last year on the peages. Very tiring. This year did a max of 250 miles in one day. Much easier on the bum, although the GS seats are exceptionally good.1 point

David, if you believe that the videos did not accurately reflect the true condition of the vehicle, then you might consider that an apology for the misrepresentation is not adequate compensation. This is particularly egregious as it’s committed by a main dealer and reflects badly on the brand. For example, surely something as major as virtually half the car being resprayed might warrant a mention in the description? You might consider a registered letter to the owner of the dealership, headed ‘Without Prejudice’, citing misrepresentation and detailing your dissatisfaction and the costs that you have incurred and requesting compensation. Just a thought….1 point

@Shahpor I love cars so even if you have bought a Fiat (or a Jag) I would love to hear about it! Please keep us updating, especially a new Genesis is something different and looks like a good package!1 point

That’s good to know, thanks. I’m aiming to drive them over the next few weeks. I also need to fit a pram in it and although doable, I know the RCF boot is a squeeze.1 point

My advice would be, if you go aftermarket - buy a good brand of alloys. Cheaper aftermarket alloys are cheap for a reason. Best of luck and show us pics before and after.1 point

Lexus’ admission in its manuals that set speeds “may” be exceeded on downhill gradients could be read as a disclaimer in the event that a legal speed limit is exceeded as the possible result of a driver’s unreserved and consequently misplaced reliance on the CC system’s accuracy.1 point
-
We have some steep hills here in North Devon and I usually set my cc at about 63mph knowing that the speedo and corresponding HUD read about 3mph fast at this speed. However, the car does gain further speed of maybe 4 or so mph over the indicated speed down a long or steep hill but when this is occasionally exceeded, I lightly touch the brake which of course requires a reset of the cc. So another confirmation of car not braking automatically in these circumstances.1 point

Hi Craig, Thanks for making the trip down! I am really pleased that it went to someone who is going to appreciate it. With any luck you are home by now and all went well 🤞 Hope you hang around here and keep us updated, especially as this thread is yours now 🙂1 point

Haha no, definitely not Chauffeuring! My partner and I both love Lexus and big, wafty saloons, having owned Jag XJ's and the like in the past. Lexus did in fact very kindly lend us an LC500h coupe for a week long extended test drive. We found the car to be incredible, with amazing looks but perhaps not 100% practical for us. The LS, running a stretched version of the same platform seems like an excellent alternative, same multistage hybrid system but with the benefit of two extra doors, more space and comfort (air suspension, massage seats, etc.) We should be picking up the LS next weekend, and once we've given it a through once-over, I'll write up a quick report. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the 2020 RX we're trading in, and my GS, which I love to bits and isn't going anywhere 🙂1 point

It’s generally the nylon drive that fails so although the motor runs the aerial doesn’t move, replacements parts are available and a DIY project. There are several tutorials for fitting.1 point

^^ Agree. I’ve had no issues and the supermarkets I’ve been to have been stocked as normal despite what the media may say. Let’s think about the media coverage on availability of turkey for Christmas. Supermarkets have driven prices and quality of all meat products down over 20-30 years. Suppliers have responded by - amongst other things - the use of (mainly) cheap Eastern European labour. Supply chains have become longer and more complicated. However, what isn’t being reported is that local butchers or farm shops with short supply chains are seeing business boom. Prices may be higher but so is animal welfare and wages. Localism is good. We should be celebrating this power shift. Care Home staff wages over the past 10 years have dropped - in real terms - by almost 20%. It’s become a minimum wage job, fuelled by that same cheap labour supply, and it’s a difficult job at that. With the cheap labour supply cut off, wages will rise and young people may again see caring as a viable career. Again, that HAS to be good long term. Wages are rising faster than at any point for 25 years. As a country we will adjust and become a higher wage / higher skill economy. Careers like butchery, caring, HGV driving et al should become much more attractive without the exploitation - and let’s not kid ourselves, that’s what it is - of poorer economic migrants. Yes, there is a period of adjustment right now. But stick with it. The future is looking brighter than many of us realise right now.1 point

Thanks - new wheels are on and TPMS is sorted (finally, no dash lights!). Just need to deep clean the car and I’ll get some photos up. LPG equates to about mid-40’s to the gallon or about 13 ppm ish. Lot better than petrol and I do a fair mileage. It’s about 80 ppl now, but you can still find a few garages around 60, it is less economical but the price still makes it very worthwhile.1 point

As of about an hour ago I am no longer a Lexus owner 😢 About the only consolation is that the chaps that came down were very nice and the owner promised to look after it! He said he is going to join the forum, so hopefully I still get to see it from time to time. It has been a fun journey, and I miss it quite a bit already. No plans to go anywhere as I do really like it on this forum, and besides, who know if I will own one again at some point? One last picture today before it left:1 point

Crikey Peter I note your temp is set at 24 😱 hate to pay your home energy bills 🤣1 point

It was so easy to use, I sprayed it on a microfiber cloth rather than the glass to stop overspray. It cleaned dirt particles on the glass off well and also the more stubborn bits by the seals. It wiped off really easy leaving clean and reflective glass....and smelled nice! Top notch in my book, I think Nemesis has the right idea, find a good product and buy in bulk to reduce its cost!1 point

I shall still be really jealous as soon as I see someone driving round in one!! 😁1 point

When it comes to Facebook information and security may as well be on different planets, Alexa is another one why put a device in your house that listens to every word you say, transmits that information to some mega computer then stores that information ready for the hackers.1 point
