  1. A Toyota spokesman said: “If a wheel detaches itself while driving [you] can lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of accidents”. I have sympathy for the guy but I think I could have worked that out for myself.

  2. So they pretty much replied straight away with a cost of £659 from primary cats back or £479 for half using ss and a choice of noise and tailpipe. I gotta say thats a great price with a lifetime guarantee isn't it? My repair has held up so far today but when I gather the funds I'll be going to these guys. thanks for the recommendation guys !

  3. With the on going saga with petrol and diesel prices - A lithium battery car fire took Firemen 4 hours to put out, using 9000 L of water; 5 Fire Engines; 1 water tender; 2 Fire Battalion Chiefs & 1 Hazmat Officer to control the scene. They had to turn the car on its side to access the lithium battery to put the fire out. A lithium battery-powered bus in China caught fire & spread the fire to a total of 50 adjacent lithium battery buses. and.... Totaled Tesla goes up in flames three weeks after crash a pit and 20,500 L of water were needed to put it out and.. It was a lithium battery on a WV all-electric car that caused the fire that sank an entire car carrier ship in the Atlantic ocean -- check the google When PG&E shut the power off for a week during the Northern CA wildfires, no one could charge their EV cars (unless they had a gas or diesel powered generator)—time they didn’t have to spend charging them during immediate evacuations. Those who couldn’t— who had to abandon their lithium battery car during emergent evacuations—when their lithium battery car caught fire, it created a toxic magenta-pink ash cloud. A single Tesla battery weighing 1,000 pounds requires extracting & processing some 500,000 pounds of materials. At this rate, over the next 30 years, we will need to mine more mineral ores than humans have extracted over the last 70,000 years -- forecast for EVs between 2030-2035 will mean tens of Billions of batteries need mining Tyres on a EV need to be replaced much sooner than on a ICE car - so add burned tyres to the climate change manifesto. people still think its about the climate? I said it a few times, but the problem with society now is we are too dumb and dont question anything - the smart people always ask questions when things go awry, I am a Electronic Engineer with first hand experience working with lithium batteries and I am asking questions every day in my job about everyting I come across, let alone what is going on in the world over the last few years - so batteries, I know all about them - I have rigged up a basic but still quite dangerous 100W solar panel in my new shed to feed my outdoor lighting in the new decking area I have done, its good for that kinda stuff - EVs are a different kettle of fish entirely, the majority of people have simply no idea what they are getting into All we are told is they are saving the planet which is absolute BS, to put it mild.

  4. All, Got a few mods going onto the car over the next month or so and thought I would put a thread tracking these for anyone that is interested. Todays post will be wheel spacers!! As many of you may be aware, the RCF OEM wheel offset does leave the wheels tucked into the arches by some way, particularly at the front. As its a relatively easy fix I decided to do a little research online and found a number of different people recommending spacers to fix the issue. Now, spacers can at times be a topic that creates quite polarizing views due to things like quality and reliability so did go into it with an open mind. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that as long as they are engineered well and installed correctly, the chances of them failing are no greater than any other component of the car and as such, was happy to go ahead. Due to the aforementioned reliability issues some have experienced I decided that I wanted to go with either Eibach or H&R hubcentric bolt on spacers and so ordered the below at 20mm for the front and 15mm for the rear. Got them from https://www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=S90-4-15-009 and https://www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=S90-4-20-013 respectively on sale and paid around £180 for the lot. Arrived in around 10 days. I must say that the quality is second to none, really well made aluminum construction with what looks like an anodized finish. They bolted on really well and OEM wheels fitted without any fouling. Now they are on there is a noticeable difference in wheel position within the arch and stance is much improved. Please see below pics of after they were installed. The wheels fit flush with the arch and sit in what I would now consider the perfect position. Also doesn't look like lowering 30-35mm will cause any ill effects. Took around an hour to fit and test drive and really easy to do with only a few simple tools and a jack/axle stands required. Any questions please just ask....rear window tints to follow over next week Marcus

  7. Sorry only now replying. So I ended up getting the old caliper with the snapped bolt repaired for around £50. I cleaned up both calipers and brackets. I removed the old rubber boots from the calipers and bought new ones along with new slide pins from Lexus Parts Direct - The boots were a pig to refit and I split a couple of my spare ones along the way. Greased the hell out of the new pins and put it all back together. I also had to do the front brakes but they were in much better condition. I think I just cleaned and greased those. I noticed I was missing the clips on the rear that hold the pad pins in place so I got new ones as the pins were coming half way out which worried me a bit. I took the opportunity to do a bit of a brake fluid flush too. Put it all back together, bled them and i'm away. No problems so far!!

  9. Don't worry about it and just let the system manage it - it's working as it should. If you did a long downhill stretch those two last bars would illuminate. As the drivers or end users of these cars, we don't have full access to all 100% of the hybrid battery and that screen is only indicating the state of charge of the part of the battery that's 'ours'. In reality, there's another 20% below and another 20% above that indicator (if I remember correctly). Given that it's your first hybrid you may find the below helpful, or not 😄

  10. Or.......if the aerial electrics work but the problem is the insert.......go to Toyota and get one for a Toyota Camry of the same year. They are the same part. How do I know? I took my 400 through a car wash with the aerial extended - twice!!!!!!

  14. Thanks everyone, I'm sure all is fine and appreciate all the detailed feedback😎👍. Car is 69 plate with 10k miles....I suppose I was concerned about the lack of use during lockdowns? Owner was elderly gent (so the garage say)....Recently serviced and mot'd by Arnold Clark and I got their internal invoice showing all work carried out. Will get the hybrid health check done soon and consider ditching the 2 years free servicing and mot deal and return to main dealer TLC? Love the car it's amazinly smoothe.....I've still got the 2005 Sportcross for some V6 fun😲, cheers!

  17. No, it's to do with the wheels coming loose, nothing electric related.

  18. Damn you’re fast! I’ve read from a couple of sources that the Eibach and H&R spacers are made at the same place, guess that’s why people like to use them.

  20. Vastly different experience for me.... I got paid to work from home, my company didn't think to provide me with a laptop (essential as it needed correct software to access our system/ database), so I basically got paid to train our 8 week old GSD and watch Netflix 🤷‍♂️😆. Flip side was, as soon as we were allowed back into office as essential/ key workers, I was numero uno on that list! 😞

  23. A defective ( as in holed) exhaust will allow air in and upset the readings of the O2 sensors. So if you know exhaust is suspect then there might not be anything wrong with sensors themselves or anything else! Then mention of LEAN in fault code insinuates too much fresh air. Firstly address exhaust problem and reset ecu ( disconnect battery earth connection for 10 mins) or if that’s your OBD reader happy days👍

  25. As everyone else has said that all looks absolutely normal. For the first few months with my IS 300h I used to watch the display but don't bother any more. When I do occasionally have a look out of curiosity it's still working the same as ever and mine is now nearly 8 years olds and done 120K miles. If you start seeing your mpg drop significantly that would be the time to question whether everything on the hybrid side is working ok, but otherwise just enjoy the car. I would have thought on the type of commute you mention that you should be getting around 50mpg at this time of year. If you get the car serviced by Lexus (each 12 months / 10K miles whichever comes first) they will do a hybrid health check as part of the service which also means your hybrid traction battery can be warrantied for up to 15 years (no limit on mileage)so long as you do this every 12 months/10k miles, or you can pay for the hybrid health check at a Lexus dealer separately (around £60). You don't mention the age or mileage on the car, but if serviced by Lexus the included (free) Relax Extended Warranty will also take you to 10 years or 100K miles (whichever comes first) and if you want further peace of mind after that you can purchase an Extended Warranty (though has to continue to be serviced by Lexus) for up to 15 years / 150K mile old (for around £500 per annum). Yes, on closing the boot lid mine also sounds rather tinny/rattley - have just ignored that - the rest of the car is well screwed together though.

  27. Who say that the man wanting to go to Mars want to do that: Some of the cars have a safety risk with the rear-view camera, others with the front flap. Carmaker Tesla is now recalling up to half a million cars due to technical issues. This is stated by the US Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The cars from the leading manufacturer of electric cars have either a safety problem with the rear-view camera or with the front luggage compartment, the American television station CNBC reports. According to NHTSA, there are 356,000 cars of Tesla's Model 3, where there is a risk that the rear-view camera will put out. - There is a risk that the rear camera wires may be damaged when opening and closing the rear luggage compartment, and this may cause the camera to shut down, the explanation from NHTSA reads. Another 119,000 cars of the Tesla Model S are called a workshop ride because the front flap over the front trunk can in some cases open up while driving and completely block the driver's view. Tesla has not even commented publicly on the two potential security flaws, writes CNBC. But Tesla has informed NHTSA that the company does not know of any examples that the two faults have been the cause of accidents with personal injury or serious damage to the cars. Video games while driving NHTSA has already been after Tesla because a one-year-old update in nearly 600,000 cars has made it possible to play computer games on the car's TV screen while driving. The feature is intended as a service for the front passenger, but according to NHTSA, there is an obvious risk that it will also distract the driver. Tesla has taken that criticism to heart and has just made an update, which means that you can only play on the car's TV screen when the car is stationary, writes the tech magazine ArsTechnica.

  28. I like a good watch and have a few in my collection worth 'a bit' and they can say much about someone - I am not a fan of Rolex, they do very good watches no doubt but much of it is due to marketing, ask anyone in the world to name a prestigious watch and they will most likely say Rolex - what they wont mention is IWC, Audemars-Piguet, Grand Seiko, A. Lange & Söhne, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe and probably others I missed. A good watch is an investment and you cannot underestimate the craftsmanship and skill involved in making the watches mentioned, like this

  29. One thing I forgot to mention: AC is starting so quick in a hybrid as it is not the engine that is controlling the AC as in most cars. All electric and cool air come out in seconds. Even here where temperatures are generally much higher than in UK.

  30. I live where we go up and down just to drive in the city. Going up will keep the hybrid battery on 2 o3 3 bars depending on how hard you accelerate. Going down it comes to show all bars as full just 3 - 5 km going more or less down. Hybrid battery when I park in the garage is mostly almost full and when parking it Friday evening it will still be that Monday morning. Driving around in malls parking places with permitted speed 10 - 15km/h will see EV lamp on most of the time. Even when only 2 bars are lit, but as soon as you press a bit hard engine will start. Driving on plain roads 80 - 100km/h will normally see hybrid battery more or less in the middle. On our little CT. Bigger cars have bigger batteries but also more weight to transport so I guess it could be more or less the same with all Lexus/Toyota hybrid cars. EV lamp I have never seen light in when driving faster than 80km/h. EV lamp is always lit when driving from standstill except when going uphill. Have been told by Lexus here that battery (and rest of the car) is in perfect condition.

PS, the ref info on the Hybrid system was excellent....Herbie, take the rest of the day off😎👍

  34. Water has dissolved oxygen in it. What do you think fish have gills for? 🤣 If you submerge steel in deionised water then the rust will be minimal, but it will still rust over time. Submerge steel in salt water and it will rust like crazy. To prevent rust what you actually need is a dry, oxygen free environment, but there are issues with those too as the rubber parts still degrade with time (due to outgassing of volatile organic compounds) and become hard and brittle. Personally I never saw the point of doing so. The whole point of a car is for it to move and be used. A garage queen is a waste of design & engineering. I admire what they do at places like Brooklands where they try to keep all their vehicles functional and used. Drive it, enjoy it, and fix the bits that break down over time. That is the best way to keep a vehicle alive.

  37. What quality of tyres do you have fitted and do all four match ? I had a Toyota with bridgestones on the back and Chinese ditch finders on the front , drove like the shock absorbers were worn out. Fit a set of Avon’s and it transformed the car totally.

  38. If Toyota/Lexus implement function coding along the same lines as Mercedes (I imaging all manufacturers will use similar systems) then these regional specific codes will set using production line level coding systems. Once the cars emerge into the real world the service level systems such as Techstream will not have individual access to the lower level coding and region specifics will be grouped together to make replacing modules, due to failure or accident, simpler/quicker/cheaper. One can change the region such as from UK to ROW (speaking from MB experience) to achieve a required change but one needs to be very careful that other 'grouped' settings aren't also changed, that may lead to unwanted changes in other settings. Maybe from miles to kilometres or gallons to litres, for example.

  40. I am surprised that the pull does not occur until you reach such high speeds but if you have tried alternative Tyres/wheels on all 4 wheels, it seems likely that the problem is somewhere with rest of the car. A very full check should be made to ensure that toe, cast and camber are all correct. I don't know your model but some cars have some adjustments affecting rear wheels and wrong settings can affect pulling to one side. When on flat is the gap between the top of the tyre and the underside of the wing the same on both front pair and the back pair? As speed increases the car is having to work go harder through an air dam, therefore greater pressure exerted on suspension so any slight slack on nearside would mean that being pushed back more increasingly affecting steering. Assume front wheels in particular freely rotate equally, in other words one side not causing slightly more drag. Possible misalignment due to accident damage also a possibility as previous post suggested might be the cause.

AND a huge difference to motorists who have frustrations heaped upon them .... who actually pay for the roads too Is there a sensible reason why cyclists don't pay a road tax on their bicycles ... just as car owners pay ? And is insurance also compulsory for cyclists too ? And why shouldn't bicycles have an annual MOT type official test ? Malc

  43. I had a call from the dealer today. I originally ordered my Premium Edition in mid February, when it was quoted as July/August delivery. A call in April put that back to November/December. Today's call tells me it is currently showing October delivery. When I asked, it was confirmed it would be MY23, and that the change for the model year was the completely updated multimedia system. The dealer also confirmed the price I would be charged was as stated on my original order, and we know from the MY23 Price List already available that the car will still be under the £40k VED barrier, so I'm back to being a happy customer again. I'll be even happier once I see it's entered production. but I suppose I'll have to wait untill at least August to see that.

  44. Congrats on the IS mate, I've got the same IS250 F sport but in black and its hands down my favourite car! The mark Levinson audio is one of the best in class audio systems for that year of vehicle, you should have USB connectivity as well as bluetooth audio so theres no immediate need to upgrade the infotainment but if you do want an upgrade for apple CarPlay / android auto there are plenty of options. Few things that may need an upgrade are the rear boot struts if you find the boot isnt lifting very easily, SGS engineering is the way to go for those combined with some springs for automatic opening if thats your preference. LED interior and puddle lights are a nice cheap upgrade and spruces up the car a little. As Vlad has stated, the brake callipers do have a bad tendency to seize up so do get those sliding pins greased up every year and it should save you having to get new callipers! As long as you service the car every year with regular oil changes the car should look after you for many miles to come 👍🏼

  46. Oh dear, the classic Lexus seized callipers with the slide pins that never get removed, cleaned and re-greased during a service. Not sure if the carriers come with new slides but you need 2 on each side plus the 14mm bolts as well.

  48. Yes and the village blacksmith can keep a 100-year old Model T running with just a hammer and a screwdriver. Today's generation of high tech cars will be just static objects in museums of the future, the electronics will be dead with parts that are unobtainable, unless you go down the road of updating with newer tech.
